charger placement?!? - Thunderbolt General

It is an awful design flaw but OH WELL.

you could get the induction charger when it comes out and angle it?

Come on, you can't even use it plugged in as an alarm on the kickstand horizontally at night or for movies when plugged in. Are these phones meant to be used only on battery at all times?

You're using it wrong. It's meant to be plugged into a dock for what you want. The kickstand is for battery use.
If the charging port were elsewhere, people would complain that it was in the wrong place because it's not easy to dock, or the buttons are on the wrong side, or you can't open the stand for more volume when docked, or some other reason.

This question has been asked and answered 100 times. HTC wants you to purchase the multimedia dock. Simple as that.

Yep. Gotta make us fork out an extra $60 for the dock. Pathetic.
On the other hand, portrait mode works well.

I'll assume you really don't know.
First, there are different types of docks. For most people, a car dock is necessary to secure the phone in a position which is easily seen and accessed. The phone is expected to provide hours of operation while running power intensive applications (navigation and phone, primarily). This is only reasonable with a dock. You could argue that one could simply plug in a cable and use a simple holder, but the counter argument then becomes "you don't need a kickstand, either, and you can lay it flat."
A dock is also needed to provide HDMI output as intended. This dock has been announced, but is not yet available, but that's clearly what the phone is designed for.
His statement that "if the charging port were elsewhere one would not need the dock in the first place" is only true in exactly the same sense that one doesn't need a dock even with the charging port exactly where it is now.

I used exactly the same "argument" the OP did - stating something as fact with nothing to back it up.

jasonbiggs said:
To beat a dead horse, the real FACT is as originally stated by me:
[fact] With the charger in the position that it is in now, I cannot use the phone plugged in for watching movies, horizontally, on the kickstand. [end fact]
Which in turn, requires one to purchase a dock (if that is what the dock will allow) if one so chooses. Very simple to understand. This is logical, no?

TRY to follow the thread without being so parochial. This is the "OP" referenced.

Sort of back on topic:
I want a dock now, not in a few months. And not the one with room for an extra battery that has been floating around. I want a small dock.

Reverse Kickstand FTW!

ya it is bad placement as well as with the Xoom and its folio case cant charge it while standing up ... idk what they are thinkin

Home Cradle

Has anyone heard anything new about the Galaxy S home cradle that got pulled from Samsungs website? I'd really like one for the Epic
I have a rumored Manufacture's number also: ECR-P968BEGSTD
Hotness! Are there any other cradles available? I want one now! haha
That one wouldn't work for the epic anyway as the USB and headphone jacks are reversed, not to mention that the phone is also probably too wide. I hope Samsung supports this phone, but I'm thinking its too different from the others to support it on its own.

There will be a home cradle for the epic. I am not asking you to believe me but you will on August 31st. Is it an app that you have to download to get that homescreen, clock, weather, etc?

I bought one of these today when I got the wife an epic. Its a Samsung original accessory. Fits fine. Charges fine. WON'T go into landscape. I hope it can be fixed via a software update. Was 39.99 and came with a wall charger.
Needless to say I'm disappointed.

Works like a charm now!
Love the dock... one thing though. Is anyone else's turning the volume to zero if you tap it while its connected? the icon takes up a huge chunk of the screen and doesn't go away until i pull it off the dock and put it back in. So far, thats my only annoyance.

Yes... that happened with mine, too. The indention for the volume keys isn't deep enough, I guess... I fixed it by putting a bit of black electrical tape along the bottom of the rest of phone's groove -- just the part to the right of the indention for the volume keys. It's worked great since.
I covered that annoying blue light while I was at it, too.

ive found the best way to dock it with out activating the vol down button is to place it on the dock while the screen is off. the volume buttons wont work till its back on, and it comes on when it connects to the charging port.

[Q] Charger Noise

I leave my charger plugged in to the wall, even when not in use, out of laziness. While my phone is connected, it's silent. But as soon as I disconnect my phone, it makes a barely perceptible, high-pitched whining noise.
Does anyone else experience this? Is it a sign of potential danger? Is it wasting much electricity?
I've most definitely noticed, drives me crazy that I'm the only one in my house that can hear it.

my charger does this also! Maybe that's why my phone acts screwy half the time while it's charging at home? My car charger it's always fine

Anyone replace the charging port yet?

so i've gotten my hands on a galaxy s3, which i'm super pumped about, but it had a bad charge port. seems to have been corroded with sweat (the woman ran with it in her shirt lol) so i cleaned it up hardcore with some rubbing alch etc, but i cannot get it to charge correctly anymore. basically, it might charge half a percent per every hour or so....like, something incredibly slow. last night i left it on from 8pm until 10am the next day, and it only went up about 26%.
when plugged into PC, the comp tells me unrecognized USB device, blah blah blah, can't install drivers..so clearly there's something up with the charge port. now i've found a replacement on ebay for only 5 bucks, which is awesome..however, i don't know what kind of task it would be to replace the charge port, as i've never done it before.
anyone have any experience, or have any better methods to clean out the current port? i've used a toothbrush with rubbing alch, and then a toothpick to fine clean it in there, and then i blow it out with compressed air after i let it sit a bit just to fully dry it out. again, it'll charge, but so horribly slow...and thing is, it even says AC charging, too.
here's a pic as an example:
Why wouldn't you just go to Verizon and get a replacement? or even a 14 day swap if you're in the 14 days?
lol bc it's not my phone..i bought it off a customer at my store since it was busted (she bought another one lol) and either way, we can't warranty it because she has two small cracks in the two corners..she's obviously dropped it within the 1 week she had it anyway.

so i got the charge port today finally....i also got an external battery charger and 2 aftermarket batteries in the mean time (problem is it takes like 10 hours to charge from 0 to 100%......crappy charger)
so now i have this tinyyy little USB port, and i've never really taken a phone apart before, especially doing soldering work on a PCB.

I would gladly fix your charge port for a price. The main thing about diy is do not be afraid of breaking something, your s3 and other electronics are built sturdier than people think...... Think how hard people drop em and they still work. But don't just go taking on stuff, be careful just don't be afraid and renege where everything went and in what order. Its really simple. I've been working on phone hardware and xboxs, ps3s etc for a few years now..... I'm just not getting into the software stuff

If you are really worried about doing the repair your self, and can't find someone to do it at a reasonable price......I would just do the palm stone wireless charging mod.

Wireless Charger and External Battery Questions--Thank You!!

Not that I am missing questions and answers on this topic. I have seen some here and Android Central.
However I am getting a bit of conflicting answers.
I figured I would ask here and see if I can get maybe 2 answers that agree.
I simply want to know...the Energizer Qi Charging Pad is the best one (by opinion) out there now, until Google puts their orb out ???
With regards to the Energizer, I was told at Best Buy it would not charge with a TPU on. But on AC Forum it said YES, you can leave the case on you have to put it in the right spot.
1. Is that true, you can leave the case on? And finding that "spot", is it a tedious thing or is it fairly easy to lay down?
2. One poster said he would hope that we would not leave the $400 phone charging for many hours. I said, did you mean the Charging pad, or simply plugged into the micro usb, or on a desktop dock.
I don't know his answer. I would assume he just meant the Pad. Would it be bad to leave the phone on the pad, for example, overnight.
While I could hear someone saying that, I would think it would be fine. I think most makers know that overnight is prime time for charging.
3. With regard to my Newtrent external batteries, when full charged, are you supposed to unplug. Or can I leave it plugged in
4. I asked Newtrent if I have my ext. battery plugged in, can I use the phone thru that, if I am for instance working at my desk.
He says he doesn't recomment charging two things at once. I didn't know if he meant anything, like using a a/c to 3 a/c adaptor which wouldn't make sense. Or just the example I am speaking of.
Your help is greatly appreciated.
As far as the charging with a case, mine works just fine. Here's a video I made to show it. Once you know where about to place the phone it's actually a decent area. As you can see I just set it down without tweaking it each time and it works just fine except the 2 times I show where the too low points are.
It charges about 30 percent an hour this way. I haven't left it on over night yet, but when I get another one for my bed room I plan to.

Thanks for the video and letting me see it. As someone said, it is sold out on Amazon. And a friend ordered it for me as a gift from Sears, only to find 4 days later when I called (They did not tell me ) that the order was cancelled. They did not know why. They assumed it was because it was out of stock. (Nice way to communicate with the 3rd party LOL )
Do you know where I can get it. I would get the dual one, but I checked the dimensions, they are pretty big. that is like 12" x 9"
Is the Orb coming out soon?
Lastly, I assume it will be ok to let sit there for hours. How about my ext battery, once that is charged: Can I leave it plugged in?? Can I leave it plugged in while having the micro usb come out to my phone and use the phone the same time. Newtrent guy said he doesn't recommend it I don't know much about it

that is one of the ones I wanted to know. I knew that...I must have had a brain fart and forgot that. Even most of the chargers that come with the phone do right?
So you would get this, it's no pain in the neck, and you would get this instead of a dock
Do you know if by chance the Seidio Innodock would fit. I believe so. I think the one they had on the past 10 phones was the same model LOL
I use the same case and charger. I do not place the phone as high on the charger and it still works. I will also confirm that my charger turns off after the phone is charged. I leave mine on the charger at work.

Can someone confirm the behavior of charging on their QI charger. Does it charge to 100% and stay at 100%, or does it drop a few percentage then charge up again? Mine seems to charge to a max of 97% and stay there, but I have not experimented too much yet.

I decided to use my phone without the case today. I noticed that the phone starts wireless charging almost immediately when I set the phone on the charger without a case. With case it takes a couple seconds usually before it starts. I'll have to do some testing over the next day to see if it actually chargers faster or just initiates the charge quicker and I'll let you guys know.

Agreed. That is the behavior that I'm seeing as well.
I own an Energizer single charger.
Normal thickness cases will still work. The N4 will charge so there's no issue there.
Just that the N4 does seem to get a toasty charging overnight and my N4 only has a back screen protector on so I just caution to be mindful of that.
Personally, if I had a full case or like a leather/vinyl/thick pouch, I would simply take the N4 out of it for overnight charging just to be on the safe side but then again, I baby my devices so... Lol!

Anyone know of any phone sanitizers that will accommodate our phones? Seems like the ones I seen only go up to 6.3 inches.
Phonesoap model: 500-1
Fits 1+7Pro perfectly, and has feed for charging cable.

Thanks, I'll look into it!
Hope you find it to be what you were looking for; I can only assume you wanted light to do the job, rather than sonication or something.
Only downside, is despite it having a USB-C and type A on the device itself, it maxed at 2.1A power, but you can always warp your cable through. Oh, and making sure the screen is off may help it not overheat from being brightly hot boxed.

Yea, I was just looking for a quick clean. So this should work, but I'm not sure if it's out yet. Unless I'm finding the wrong model
Will definitely keep the screen off, most likely will keep the phone off anyway will cleaning. Should take all but 10 mins or so

All you have to do is buy eyeglass wipes(premoist). They have alcohol. Wipe phone down and done
