Does anyone now how you can manually scan for contact matches?
Because before I was aware of the usefulness of this function, I always decided not to match the contacts that my HTC Desire S was suggesting ...
Thanks in advance
Contacts->more->linked contacts
Or edit individual contacts and use the link option.
The easiest way to get all the suggested contact matches back is to simply delete the account type (ie facebook) from
Settings->accounts & sync
And then add it again and sense will resuggest them

Does anybody know how to change or remove the details for Facebook that get attched to the 'Me' contact in hTc Contacts?
I've changed account details and need to change them on my phone, but I cannot find an option to alter the stored details. If I try to do a status update on the currently stored wrong details it simply returns to the 'Me' contact, without any option to check details.
I know I could HR my HD2, but I'm trying to avoid doing that.
Thanks in advance.
So no follow up on this means it is not possible. i also would like to get rid of my Facebook contact in my rooted HTC Aria. As my facebook name is not my actual name.
Can this be done through the back door per say?
any commands I could try to enter. What happended to having full control over your phone?

Try logging out your facebook account in "Account Manager", it will asks you to key in logins details again when you reenable facebook.
If you're using Windows Mobile w/ Sense:
On Sense, slide over to the Settings tab
Tap 'Data Services'
Scroll down to 'Social Networks'
Tap the slider next to Facebook to revert from On to Off
Restart Sense {Optional, yet recommended}
Once Sense starts up, follow steps 1-3 again
This time, tap the slider next to Facebook to revert from Off to On
Enter your new details
Taa-daa!
If you're using Android w/ Sense, I can't be of much help, sorry.
and for wp7 users? any tip
this is very usefull too.
thanks!

Where is you're primary contact source, for example, mine is google contacts and I find that the contacts linkage data is stored within the google contact info field within <HTCData><Facebook>id:999999999/friendof:8888888</Facebook></HTCData>. This then means whenever I then add additional accounts, eg FB etc only the contacts links that I've said NO to in the past are re-prompted for? as the linkage data in the google.contact.info field is automatically applied
So possible add the Google Account and get google contacts first when setting up your device. Does that make sense?

Sorry I made that term up, what I meant is which source do you keep the most contacts in and keep up to date, Google contacts, Outlook or FB?
That source I called primary as it is ultimately where your contacts reside, the others are simply places that the same contacts are in...and can add value to your initial records....
I add my google account first so that I get all my real contact (my friends) and then only sync the other accounts to where I have an existing user, so that my contact list is not filled with 100's of unnecessary people, just my friends contact records have extra data added to them.

Hi everyone,
I'd like to store my contacts on the local phone storage. Unfortunately the contact app doesn't seem to support that. If I remember right the one from "Vanilla ICE v2" did.
Is is possible to just flash the apk from Vanilla/CM9/whatever supports local storage? Can I perhaps change the settings in the current app to support local storage? Or is there a option somewhere and I am just stupid^^?
Thanks for the help.
Best

PS: I am not really keen on syncing my contacts with google or anyone else so thats not really a solution...more of a dealbreaker. :/
There should be an option to Import/Export from storage in contacts.
Go to Contacts > press menu button > Import/Export
You'll then get the options to:
Import from Sim card
Import from Storage
Export to Storage
Share visible contacts
If the options are not there, then it must be a bug in BlindIce v8.
Oh, and be sure to turn off Google's contacts sync!

may i ask why u dont want to use google to sync as trillions of people use it ?
Hi,
@miz_pimp
Thanks for the help. If I understand you right, I should just use the Google account but not sync it. I already thought of that but hoped there would be a real local storage (like in other roms I have used).
@htc-phones
I just not comfortable with Google constantly integrating my contacts into my other web activations. And also I find it kind of rude that they use this data for there business.
And also I don't think the masses are a good adviser...
To precise my original question: is there a possibility for "real" local storage like some roms are able to (without the fear of accidental sync)? Does it depend on the contact app used?
Thanks again.

Maybe I misunderstood you. I have my contacts saved to my SD card, and do NOT have it synced with Google. Every time I flash a new ROM, I just restore my contacts from my SD card, but before doing so, I do not sync my Google account yet.
While my account is syncing, I quickly turn off "Sync Contacts", before any of my contacts are synced with my Google account.

I think I understood what you meant, but if I got you right your still linking your contacts to your Google-Account (the one you e.g. log into the market with), you just don't update (sync) the contacts within its "online address book".
But what I am infact looking for is the possibility to NOT link the contacts. In Endymion for example (but I remember correctly Vanilla as well) you can select "phone storage" as location to import your .vcf to. That option I am missing.
The workaround you suggested might work, but after flashing most roms auto sync is on and you have to be quick.
The point is since you can not really take back any mistakes in that field (since leaked informations can not be retrieved) I would really prefer a local solution.
But thank you for your help!

PS: Perhaps I would not be so "paranoid" if I had not received a mail from Google congratulating me to my new Galaxy Nexus after flashing Vanilla >.<. Or if I would be able to delete the serial of my old DesireS which I returned after fried eMMC...
I'm not so sure then, as I don't recall seeing that option, sorry.

here's my fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1808037

Hope it helps!
I don't sync my contacts with Google either, all my contacts are backed up with TB then restored after a new Rom by just restoring data not app and data, as a backup I export to sd card.

I am using google to sync my contacts, I tried to put in a name Major Tom it saves the name without the word Major. I then tried to create another name Major Impact it saved the contact just as Impact. any ideas?
You can log into your gmail account on your pc or webbrowser on the phone and try from there.

You have multiple numbers saved in various locations. Go to view in people app and select to show the three locations. Phone, google, and sim. See what numbers are already there and delete the extras and change the default locations of the ones you want to save. It wont allow the same name in more than one spot.

I'm trying to figure out how I can reliably merge all the duplicate contacts I have to a single contact on the phone. What I'm trying to achieve is to be able to have:
1) 1 Single contact per person (not "linked" or "joined" but one single contact)
2) combine replace the older pictures with newer ones
3) Pull Facebook ID for use with Contacts-sync (so I can get 720x720 contact pictures instead of whatever the facebook app pulls)
Example: If i have 4 Joe Smith contacts (1 on the phone, one from facebook [i know, it's not editable], one from google, and one from contacts sync), I want to be able merge them all so that there is only 1 Joe Smith contact that has all the information from all 4 contacts so I can unsync facebook and google out of it.
I want to be able to pull the facebook ID number for the contacts so it can resync the picture as needed as well as reduce the clutter that I have.
Why? Facebook's current concept in syncing "existing contacts" seem to be the same thing as sync ALL contacts. It downloads ALL my friends info from Facebook and puts it in there but hides it. I'd prefer to be able to just get info for those people who is on my phone contacts and no one else.
I also want less syncing happening on my phone. As of this posting, Facebook still downloads low res pictures and ignores its own sync rules.
Does anyone here have any suggestions as what I can do to merge the info I need so I can unlink Facebook and just have contacts-sync pull the photos instead?
Thanks!
P.S: for those who are using the XDA app and can't see my signature, this is on the Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300 (International) phone.
