[Q] Move Restore Point from a XP Zune to a W7 Zune?? - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Here is my problem...
I have my restoration point in my job's PC (XP), as i know where it is (C:\Documents and Settings\USER\local configuration\program data\Microsoft\Windows Phone Update) I save the backup in my Pendrive and move it into my W7 laptop (C:\Users\"User"\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Phone Update) but the problem is that when i put the backup in the right direction and start Zune, Zune delete all the data again and again, so the restoration point doesn´t work in zune...
Is there any way to move it and make it work?
PLEASE HELP!
Thanks!

Can someone help me?
Is there someone that has move the folder with the restore point between 2 PC´s with any problems?
Please, I need to see the light with this problem cause its gona make me crazy... I don´t find anything in the web, only the "windows phone update" folder...
HELP

I followed the path you posted. I don't think that's the restore file. My file is dated for May 2. I jus tsynced my phone before I read your post. This is a sync file and not the backup. I got NoDo in March so that's not it on my computer.

That is actually the right location, I have it in the same place (Win 7).
"C:\Users\%USER%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Phone Update"
Inside you'll have (one or more, depending on how many updates you did) a folder like this:
daeb3c18 - 4edbdb5d - 91e2ccc4 - d1461342
that contain 2 folders:
Properties
RestorePoint
*Note: I've marked with a - in front the files only.
Properties
contains
-Properties.xml
RestorePoint
contains
FB1AC641-C617-90EF-98F1-D389C6A5F0B9

contains
Data
Data
contains
-Data.0.dat
-Data.1.dat
...
in chunks of 4MB
You should be able to move this data structure to another computer (the original top folder).

Try to do this: Start Zune, it will delete the folder. Don't sync yet, leave your phone locked (if you have a PIN). Then, copy the files in the folder and unlock your phone by typing the PIN. Leave Zune running in the background, don't stop it. It might just work... (if you don't have a PIN, try putting one for this purpose).

IT WORKS!!! The downgrade can be performed because the backup appears again in Zune, but if you close zune the update dissapeared...
It´s more than i hope to find, Thanks bro!!

great!
Glad it worked and your problem is solved
I suspected this trick would work, and I also saved my own backups.
This info might be also very valuable to others.

Would it be possible to upload the restore point? I own a DVP I tried upgrading the SD Card and now it show on 15 MB I can try to update the DVP and there moght be a chance that it might read my SD card.
I know its a long shot but till now I have tried everything to get my phone back.
Thanks

Activesync restore

Today I lost all the data on my phone.. no problem I thought, I shall do a restore using my backup activesync makes every time i plug my phone in, so all is fine and dandy. When it gets about half way through the restoration, activesync crashes (always at the same point). It is during processing a file called fldr1001dd8.
This means I cannot fully restore my device - very annoying!!
Can anyone help with this... can I make it so it skips errors instead of crashing? Any help at all appreciated!! Device is a Blue Angel, using ActiveSync 4.1
You want to download a free utility called STGViewer - this utility allows you to examine the contents of the backup file activesync creates so you can identify which data you want restored. If there is a corrupt file then you can decide not to restore that particular one but retrieve everything else.
Thankyou so much, I will try that!!
OK I have found it, but I cant work out how to delete a file from the archive with it. All it seems able to do is 'copy' files out of the archive :-(
Any tips?
You cannot delete individual files from the .stg file but the program does allow you to restore selected folders and files. So you can restore Program Files folder all at once - if that works then restore My Documents folder and so on.
You may find that by restoring individually there may not be any corrupt files. But if there are, then you just select everything else except the corrupted file - you can use drag and highlight to speed things up. A little bit tedious but at least you can get all your files back from a bad .stg file.
BTW, the file you mentioned is in Pegasus Databases which are system files
Have you used the program yourself Ian? If so could you please help me with the restore folder button.. when I select a folder, then the restore folder option on the menu, nothing happens. This is very frustrating!
Also, when I extract the files from the pegasus database and put them on the phone, the pegasus folder shows in the phone's file manager (obviously, because I just put it there). How do I restore them to the (presumably hidden) folder, where they are meant to be?
I appreciate all help on this matter, all I need back are my contacts, appointments and message data etc, the rest I can start afresh with.
No I have not used this to restore an entire phone, only to retrieve individual files. It does sound like you will need to start afresh and just use STGViewer to recover personal files from My Documents etc. Most installed programs in Program Files will work fine if restored via STGViewer- there is often no need to actually use an installation program as many programs work as standalone folders.
If you have synced with your PC previously, all your contacts, notes and messages will be in Microsoft Outlook so you can use Activesync to restore these back onto your phone. (assuming you had opted to sync these items)
I would suggest in future that you use Xbackup in the Programs folder to regularly save your contacts/notes data into permanent Storage. I also from time to time make a copy of my .stg file so that I do not need to start anew if my current .stg file is corrupted. Good luck!

How do I return back to nodo after flashing the Mango Beta

I have a HTc Arrive that I flashed the Mango Beta on. That went fine. However, I'm trying to return it back to Nodo. I used this method update to Mango: http://windowsphonehacker.com/articles/get_the_mango_update_now._without_being_a_developer.-06-30-11
I have a backup in the Premangostate folder that's saved on C drive. But Zune doesn't recognize it or at least Zune doesn't display anything about an update...
The instrictions also state that if I want to manually restore the phone back to update do this:
Copy your backup in C:\PreMangoState to %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Phone Update
However..I cant find "%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Phone Update"
Can somebody help me please
Make sure you have "show hidden files and folders" enabled in your file view options so you can find the \AppData\...
"%userprofile% is your username.
I'm assuming that the "Premangostate" folder contains the GUID associated with your phone so you would copy whatever is in "PreMangoState" to %userprofile%\AppData\...

I see the Application Data Folder..but I'm getting the message access denied. And I am the System Administrator
Isn't there a restore.bat file that came from the same place where the intial files came from? That article you linked has it. Don't you just, hit that, and it'll restore?
If that a fails, next question would be what version of Windows are you running? Because these files are stored in different places depending on what version of Windows you are on. Those directions look like they were designed for people on Windows 7.

Yeah...it is a restore file....I ran that it did a bunch of commands and that was it. It didn't do anything after that.
I was able to get into the file I mentioned in my previous also. I placed the PreMangoState file into the : \AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Phone Update
Went into Zune like it stated, clicked update and the only message I get is your device is up to date.

make sure Zune is closed. open task manager and ensure all instances of Zune are gone (if you have multi user - log off the other party).
if that doesn't help, right click on the folder. click on security tab, in group or user names click on your profile name and edit. make sure full control is checked, click OK.
if that doesn't help
right click on the folder, click on the security tab, click on advanced, click on Owner, edit and add your User profile name to it and make sure Administrators are listed as well. click OK, OK.
edit: ugh, one minute too late....
your Zune will tell you that it's up to date, but there should be a restore button at the bottom with the date of the premango listed. you need to click restore....
if you were able to copy the contents of the premango folder over make sure it's not nested in the one that's in there. If it's not, check the size of the premango folder and report here. some people reported a size of 4kb, which apparently doesn't contain a true restore point. The folder should contain a bunch of numbers/letters. in that folder are two folders Properties and RestorePoint. You need to copy both of these into the folder with the same numbers/letters under your user/appdata ....Windows Phone Update folder
I ran the restore.bat script again and this time It looked like it was going to work then it said no backup found....
but when I check my C drive I do have a PremangoState file there...what the hell...

after you have copy and pasted everything, you should have a couple of folders inside the directory:
In: \AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Phone Update
\j4nf3de3 - malp38d3 -mdkaa532 - eidg5324\
\j4nf3de3 - malp38d3 -mdkaa532 - eidg5324\Properties\
\j4nf3de3 - malp38d3 -mdkaa532 - eidg5324\Properties\properties.xml
\j4nf3de3 - malp38d3 -mdkaa532 - eidg5324\RestorePoint\
\j4nf3de3 - malp38d3 -mdkaa532 - eidg5324\RestorePoint\[another folder with random characters]
\j4nf3de3 - malp38d3 -mdkaa532 - eidg5324\RestorePoint\[another folder with random characters]\Data
The j4nf3de3 - malp38d3 -mdkaa532 - eidg5324 will not be named the same for you, as that is a unique ID for your device, so it should be in a similar format.
But anyway, you should have those additional directories in the Windows Phone Update folder. Then close Zune (if its open), and open it again, and hopefully that works for you.
The file I copied from the PreMangoState fFolder and placed into my Windows Phone Update is labeled:
d26046bb - 94fa8529 - 2df72a60 - 5f45d48f
I click that I then have 2 sub folders labeled:
Properties
Restore pont
In the properties Folder there is just a Propertiesxml file
In the Restorepoint folder there's sub folder labeled:
1A5C280B-6CCF-4E62-8F3C-AAD8A680B0D1
Then another sub folder labeled:
Data
Then Data files that goes from data.0.dat all the way to data.149.dat followed by a Manifest.xml file

see my post above....You have all the info that you need. If Zune doesn't show a restore option once you copied the folder over, it may be 0 size files? What's the size of the premango folder? It will tell you that it's up to date no matter what, but you should see a restore option at the bottom. anyways, good luck.
The file I listed above: d26046bb - 94fa8529 - 2df72a60 - 5f45d48f is only 550mb. So I'm sure that that's not my backup. However, there's another file also.
This one is labeled: 96bb2c9b - ef06a0d8 - ed24056b - 3db8f227 and is 4.22GB.
Now when I run the restore.bat script, in the command window I get the question:
Overright Cremangostate\96bb2c9b - ef06a0d8 - ed24056b - 3db8f227\Properties\Properties.xml (Yes/No/)
Which one do I pick?
maybe run the backup bat in administrator mode?

make a copy (backup) of both folders into a different directory (temp) before you continue. Give them a meaningful filename extension (nodo, mango). Then let it overwrite (or copy it over yourself with my instructions earlier). - and yes run the bat with admin rights as ahlMAR suggested.
DO NOT overwrite the premango update! it looks like that's what the program wants to do?

Restoring to pre-mango state with Zune - possible solution

This is possible solution for all of you that are using "takesonetomango" tool for Mango upgrade and cannot restore your phone back.
After I updated my phone (HD7) to Mango beta I couldn't restore it back so then I was doin' a bunch of stuff (uninstalling Zune, installing garbage, installing Zune again- 4.7 then 4.8...) and then I had one of those "moments" and did the following:
Ok... I had the same problem with restore.bat (there was no restore point...) so I did it like this:
1. from the folder C:\PreMangoState\bd48ff04 - 5fe3fd05 - fcc4ad38 - 5132dc93\RestorePoint select to copy THE LATEST FOLDER (check "date modified" - that would be the latest backup you took with update.bat)
2. go to C:\Users\%your username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Phone Update\bd48ff04 - 5fe3fd05 - fcc4ad38 - 5132dc93 and PASTE it into RestorePoint folder.
Now Zune should see it (in Zune you go to settings-update).
You should be careful not to copy and paste WHOLE bd48ff04 - 5fe3fd05 - fcc4ad38 - 5132dc93 folder from restore.bat because i believe that properties.xml file should not be replaced in "windows phone update" folder.
First time i did it I copied whole bd48ff04 - 5fe3fd05 - fcc4ad38 - 5132dc93 folder (and replaced all the files) and Zune did not see it.
I hope thats it!
EDIT
Be advised that if you copied the complete folder allready, before you do this method, you have to UNINSTALL AND THAN REINSTALL ZUNE so you get original "properties.xml"
My restore point is gone because I had to format my computer, is it possible someone can attach their restore point here so I may use it and format and download a firmware upgrade for my phone please?

restore points (i.e. the backup files) are VERY MUCH device specific. You can not use another person's restore files on your phone. You can flash a stock ROM. Check the device specific forum here in XDA to see if your device has ROMs...

Great post - Thought I would mentiont that the number you have in bold is different for each user, this might be worth mentioning in your OP
Maybe it's different but in my case "bd48ff04 - 5fe3fd05 - fcc4ad38 - 5132dc93" folder appears to be in PreMangoState folder as well as in windows-phone-update folder before any copying (the same numbers-letters sequence).

Sent from my SGH-i917 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
I was trying to explain that in not so many words - perhaps I should be more frank
does this require 4.8 or 4.7 zune software?
Before update to Mango (before taking backup) - Zune 4.7
When restoring from Mango to pre-Mango - Zune 4.8
i did the same, but zune doesnt see my omnia 7.
Restoring
Hi am am using zune 4.8 The tool says it needs updating to 4.8 to match zune version, and trying to do it manually i have coppied across the whole folder to specified location and uninstalled then reinstalled zune, it then says it can not check for updates and can not restore as the restore point is invallid?
If i downgrade to zune 4.7 it gives no update or restore point in settings but keeps asking to update zune?
Help or will i need to reformat phone a 2nd time thanks to mango?

[Q] task rpcrouter:15 blocked (CDMA)

Same as posted here "I have an HTC [differing: Touch Pro (Alltel CDMA)]. I followed the instruction on forum.xda-developers.com for [FRX*] but it [enters an endless loop] at "task rpcrouter:15 blocked for more than 120 sec". The solution that worked in that link does not solve the same problem with a CDMA RAPH800.
The solution given there (paraphrased from that thread):
Link to the fix. The issue is caused by not having a data plan; the install gets stuck in a loop looking for a signal.
The solution that worked for a GSM phone
download RIL file from http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...9&d=1302817139 and place in the root of microsd.
download rootfs file from http://www.megaupload.com/?d=1NGCVCTT and place in the root of microso.
add to the end of /conf/froyo.user.conf file "/sdcard/libhtcgeneric-ril.so /lib/froyo/libhtcgeneric-ril.so" before the last "}"
Please help me find a solution for a CDMA phone - next month I'd like to take a dozen of these phones and use them as learning aids in a construction course for laborers, but I cannot start testing construction applications since I cannot get the OS to work.
I'm curious as to what happens when you format your microSD and run FRX7.1MR without anything additional. Could I get you to try this method without the additional stuff?
To be explicit, I'd like you to format your microSD with something other than the Windows method and I'd like you to download THIS (if you haven't already) and THIS. Extract the contents of both files to the root of your microSD. You should see a folder called "FRX07.1" and under that folder, you should see 3 folders and 7 files. Move the contents of that folder up to the root of the microSD. Look under the folder called "STARTUPS" and locate your device type (ie RAPH800) and copy over to the root of your microSD. Once done, run Haret on your phone and let me know what happens.
do you have an application you suggest for "format your microSD with something other than the Windows method"; sourceforge did not turn up anything.

use SDFormatter
wow that SDformatter link has a lot of popups - this link feels less like I just found a date at the bus-stop sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_3 ; but it will not install on either Server2008R2 x64 or Server2003 R2 SP2 x32.
I reformatted the microSd with the format tool in Server2008R2 as FAT format. Installed the files, and boom - I see little green guys swirling around the screen. After awhile a dialog appeared "Sorry! The process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again"; the dialog closed and it seems like it works! Thank you. I will try again with the HPtool and as FAT32.
Now I just need to learn how to use Android - and the screen calibration seems off? Deleting ts-calibration and rebooting to calibrate.
Glad to hear using the latest bundle works for you! Yeah, that might be a slight issue with an outdated kernel. The main thing I wanted to do is get you booted up first!
Before we continue, make sure you make a backup of your current configuration by copying the contents of the microSD and either moving it to your computer or some other storage device. This way you know you have a "working" bundle.
Next we update the kernel package from HERE; might I suggest using THIS kernel package. Be sure to delete the old files (should be located under root of the microSD and called modules-xxx and zImage) first! Extract till you see two files then rename zImage-xxx to just zImage and feel free to delete the files you extracted from. I've always created my own ts-calibration file but just wanted you to have it, "just in case".
Additionally, you may also need to update the rootfs by deleting the file called rootfs and downloading THIS file. Extract the file and rename to just rootfs and be sure to place it where the file called Haret is (default location is root of the microSD).
files are downloaded and installed - everything seems to work

File / Folder Count ???

I connected my phone via USB to my computer, selected all folders/files, and copied them to my PC. The operation stopped a few times (I believe when the phone went to sleep when I forgot to keep doing something every 10 minutes). I selected the last folder which was copied (alphabetical order) plus the rest of the files and continued copying.
I'm worried I may have missed some folders or perhaps hidden system files, etc. I'm trying to take a complete backup before flashing a new ROM. How can I list/view the # of files and folders on my device? I can easily do it on the PC and I'd like to compare to ensure I have everything. Please help.
