I can't seem to get the pulldown menu to show debugging mode or be able to mount the phone so I can see the sd cards as drives within windows. I installed the samsung usb drivers and rebooted the computer and still nothing...the phone shows debugging mode when I charge it in the car but not on the computer for some reason
Try a different USB port on your computer.

Try plugging into the usb ports in the back off the pc? Sometimes that works. Less connections to go through. Also have you tried a reboot? (phone). My roomate had this issue and a reboot, along with moving usb to the back ports fixed it. Hope this helps man!

Well it's on a laptop with vista...when I plugged it in a long time ago for the first time I was only planning on using it to charge my phone only so i told vista to not remind me to install the drivers but earlier I installed the X32 USB drivers and that didn't seem to do anything...I'm not sure if its ever worked cause I never paid any attention

When was the last time you updated vista? Maybe try that?

Go to samsung.com and find your phone and download samsung USB drivers its in there downloads, under captivate.
There web site is small for the phone shouldnt be to hard to find.
(i found em and i couldnt find my way out of a wet paper bag)
keep the file on hand i deal with 4 phones none are samsung but mine so i lose my drivers all the time just like you have, isnt a big deal. dont get the drivers from any were but there or here.

Definitely a driver related problem. Re-install the correct ones for your machine or test on another machine as well.
Is it a driver, usb cord, etc problem? Whenever i tried to put cog 4.4.9 on, i get stuck in a manage application/ "computing mode" and i can't get the debugging mount usb to come up at all, but mount usb works fine in recovery mode.
Had the same problem, won't mount on Windows, ODIN and Heimdall recognizes it though.

some basic troubleshooting. Pull the battery out for a minute or two, put it back in, try to turn it on. alternatively, make sure the battery is not shot, plug phone into charger and try to turn on while charging.
na its none of that I had rooted it with superoneclick then ssomething went wrong it said invalid sim so i looked into the baseband neways i ended up flashing stock it worked till i powered down after that i never powered back up now i cant even get it in software upgrade mode ? any thoughts
Fastboot with a PC connection perhaps? It's a way to install packages/images from PC. familiar? I am not knowledgeable in it, Ive only done it a few times, but there is tons about it in the forums.
For the lgp999, it has tegra, so a different method to root is required. You have to have nflash or something of the like. At least this was the case when I rooted mine 2 weeks ago. Check it out on the forums.

So I got an incident with my phone, if you wanna now about it, its at my sig, but the thing is that I dunno why or how, sometimes my computer does recognizes my phone and display the Turn on USB storage option at the notification bar, but each time I try to turn it on it just wont work. Attached is a logcat whenI try to enable it, maybe someone could tell me why it wont work.
What rom are you running for those off that are on the xda application?

Normally I got two nandroids a GB based one and an ICS based one, right now Im using both Eagle's Blood 2.3.7 v2.8 and ICS 4.0.3 Build 1. But I had this problem since... always. I'm a flashaholic so i have tested actually every rom from stock 2.2.2 to beta 4.0.3... I even have a nandroid of my original ROM (the one that came with it when y bought it and rooted it) and not even there works. The only clue i have right now is that only if I disable USB debugging it will randomly connect.
This may sound dumb but have you tried a different usb cable? I had the same problem and tried my girls and my phone was able to connect each and every time. another thing I noticed with my phone is that it sometimes won't connect using windows 7...xp no problem but 7 it plays hard to get.

No man, doesn't sounds dumb, actually if you read the "issue" background on my sig, you'll notice that I have made all those steps... its not a big deal, there are SDCard Readers and the bluetooth but... itw not the same.

Holy Mother of God! I did it! In one of those "random" times my comptuter recognized my phone I just pulled out the batt unplug/plug again the cable, keeping both vol buttons pressed and it reconginzed the APX decive! Then all I had to do was NVFlash again, restore the stock 2.2.2 Nandroid i had somewhere and play a bit with the USB mount/debbug options, flashed both storages (using gparted for the microSD) and it works! Now have to restore everything to my SD and reflash latest cm7...

I've tried at least 6 different cables, home PC, work PC, laptop and a co-worker's PC that didn't have anything vmware installed (had a hunch that vmware usb drivers were the cause). Oh, all the computers were win7x64.
I've only rooted my phone and upgraded to 2.3.3 so nothing crazy going on there and it's worked for months since i did both of those.
I have a feeling that this may have been a recent windows update, but no clue when or which one because i haven't really cared that it didn't work. If i had to guess i'd say mine stopped working about 3 months ago... again, hard to remember.

Make sure usb debugging is turned off.
Plug in the phone, enable usb storage.
Right click on the phone drives in the explorer and click on eject.
Turn off usb storage.
Unplug and plug in again.
Enable usb storage.
Drives should work now.
This did it for me. Since then if I remember to eject before unplug I haven't seen any issues.

Thanks for the reply, I'll give that a shot.
Curious though, when yours was having problems, did windows detect anything? For instance, when I plugged mine into my co-workers pc there are zero pop ups about new hardware detected.

I had the same problem. Dirt in the mini-USB port can cause that problem.
Take a can of compressed air and blow it into the mini-USB port (blowing with your mouth isn't enough). Also, take a close look at the port with a magnifying glass and look for any dirt or discoloration in there.
Do the same with your cable.

Hi, this problem occur to me after I've installed RemICS 1.3.2 ROM (CM9 based), I did follow the installation steps from beginning, when the problem occur, I did re-flash the same ROM several times, but this problem still unsolved.
I did try all recommendations (blow out dirt, disable usb debugging etc) but still not success.
This ROM should able to detect USB when phone connected with PC, but somehow I don't know why. Any experts recommendation?

Ok, I just found the problem. I can hear now the tone of PC detected USB when plugged-in, and I update the driver. then Voila!!

Hey, just thought I'd register an account because I stumbled upon this thread because I had the same issue verbatim and I managed to get it working.
I ended up using the USB 3.0 ports on my desktop and suddenly it picks up my g2x without fail everytime. With that said, I'm lead to believe that perhaps its an issue of power. Maybe the USB 2.0 ports you're using simply aren't providing enough power. Not sure what its worth or if my issue was something unrelated but maybe that bit of information is something to work with. =)
Found another solution that fixed the problem for me.
If you are using Windows XP, log on as an Administrator and open Device Manager
Select View > Show Hidden Devices
Scroll down to Storage Volumes, and expand
Right-click on each entry and select Update Driver.
This fixed the problem for me!

I have this Issue where i or if i need go go back to stock for any reason, I can't.
USB pluged in; all its doing is charge, no data transfer no nothing, i have re-installed Kies and infuse drivers,; nothing same ordeal. I went to Download Mode, and obviously USB wont recognize. So i cant use Odin either for these reasons.
Phone is Rooted and Running on Zeus Rom by The Collective,; (Great by the way)
Is there any one out there may have a solution, or a modification ?

Sounds like you are using a "charge only" USB cord. Do you have the one that came in the box with your Infuse?

USB not working
When I try to connect to the computer to transfer music or whatever to the Infuse it won't let me. I plug in the data cable click mass storage, click connect USB I get "do you want to scan and fix". If I click scan and fix I get "check disk options". Any combination of the check boxes will make the phone disappear and starts the scanning process, like I had disconnected it. I'm running Zeus 6 w/ICS theme for build 6. Is there any special way these disks should be formatted? Any help would be appreciated.

Now when I plug in to the computer it doesn't even recognize the phone. It's like I never plugged it in. The phone will still asks kies/media/mass storage. I click mass storage then click connect to PC then nothing. It's almost to the point of going out on the deck and teach this phone how to fly.
my infuse is doing about the same thing.
plug it into the wall...nothing.
try different outlet...nothing.
try different charger and cord...nothing.
plug it into my computer...starts to charge only, no usb mode.
computer says "one of the usb devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it.

I had the something happen yesterday. I restarted phone and pc but same thing. Ended up cleaning the mini usb port on the phone with an old toothbrush (and nothing else) and it started working again! Must have been some crap in there or something.

Not sure when it started; but neither my Macbook Pro or my Win7 PC will recognize the SG3. I plug in the device and I'm not even getting the notification to choose photo or MTP. It's as if it isn't plugged into USB (although it does charge while plugged in) so something is preventing it from being recognized. I've also tried the USB debugging on and off with no luck. Any ideas? Anybody else having this issue?
Did you accidentally freeze the MTP application or disable auto-startup of the MTP application? Happened to me too, I re-enabled auto startup for it and it worked fine.

Nope - I haven't rooted yet so haven't played around with any "auto-star" settings. I go into the Application Manager --> All Applications --> and find MTP application everything is grayed out except the "Force Stop" THen I find USB Settings and that one is completely grayed out, nothing can be selected.
I just received my GS3 yesterday and my mac doesn't see it either. Stock cable, fresh reboot. Hmmm....

I wish that was the answer... but I cannot even get it to pop up the USB connected notification (when it asks for MTP or whatever that other choice was) on my PC... it's as if the USB wasn't plugged in.. almost like a fautly USB; but the phone recongnizes it to at least start charging.
Only other thing i can think is trying a factory reset.. but I really don't want to have to reinstall/setup everything again (yes i know i can roote and backup, but waiting for official JB before going the root path).

Mine shows the MTP vs Camera options bit no matter what I select, nothing happens on the Mac.
I had a terrible time getting mine to connect to my Mac. I tried everything, what mine turned out to be was the usb cable. I was using a cable from my old phone, easy tether worked fine, the phone would charge, and show as connected. I could not get Casuals to work no matter what I did. As a last ditch effort and to say that I had tried everything, I unboxed the cable sent with the phone and it worked. I don't understand because I did nothing different or restart, just plug in and it worked.
I also downloaded everything to get MTP working. Good luck, hopefully you guys will find something that works, I personally know how frustrating that it is. Don't give up!

I also cannot get it to connect on my Mac. It is a known issue with at least Mountain Lion currently.
