anyone not satisfied with the volume of ringtones etc., go download the open source mp3 gain from here http://mp3gain.sourceforge.net/index.php . it works great and boosted my ringtones considerably. i used to use total recorder but decided to go in search of an open source solution. while total recorder may boost volume even more, mp3 gain is very suitable....and it's free. it also does batch processing of entire folders and is pretty easy to use. easier than total recorder.
I don't see any .apk formats.

because it's for your pc. sorry,i should have specified. just figured people would figure it out. you have to copy ringtones etc. from sdcard to a folder on your pc. drag that folder into mp3gain. set the "target normal volume" to 105(max) then select track gain.
Yeah, I realized it when I seen executable files. I thought you may have knew something I didn't.

I remember a news report a year and a half ago or something like that about a law passed in europe that the mp3 manufacturers were required to lower volume on the headphones because of the increasing amount of young people with hearing loss.
Just use media monkey on your pc to volume level all your ringtones before you transfer them to your phone or card.

I have no knowledge of programming for android. But I was wondering how hard it would ber to make an app that uses the lame mp3 encoder to down sample an audio file.
Best example is, I cut a ringtone using ringdroid, the file is 600kb because my mp3 was 192kbps.
I open the tool and down sample it to 64kbps, now the file is only 150kb. Yaaay now my ringtone is smaller and I can share my tone with friends via mms.
Future versions or paid version could include amplify, or normalize, I'm sure these 1ghz phones can handle it. I have seen an app called hificorder which records audio his the mic and allows you to set a compression level, so I'm gonna assume these devices are indeed capable of the resampling.
Any takers?

Am I the only one who would want something like this?
Hello there,
After my 16 Gb SD card decided that after I removed my phone from the PC in USB Hard Drive mode to become corrupted in some way, I decided that I'd check out HTC Sync to see what I could do to make sure that I kept my collection of photos as up to dat as possible.
Picture synchronisation is great. Works fine and takes mere seconds to hook up.
My problem comes down to music... and it's probably because I'm an awkward so-and-so.
I use FLAC for all of my music, with the exception of any iTunes and Amazon MP3 music I buy. It might be bulkier on the capacity requirements but I prefer it over MP3. HTC Sync won't sync up .flac files it seems and it would mean switching to MP3 or finding another way of doing this.
Anyone got any suggestions on how to sync flac files? The best I can think of is renaming .flac to .mp3. AFAIK, it should not change the file content or quality and should play normally through an app (PowerAMP in my case)
I use a very handy app called Syncness. It automatically copies all new files (regardless of format) in nominated folders to a specified spot on my pc each time it sees my home wifi ssid, or when I manually hit the 'sync now' button within the app.
It's a bit tricky to set up at first, but the developer is without doubt the best I've encountered on android marketplace and responds to questions extremely quickly.

Hey. WinAMP can manage and sync your music library to Android device (even without WinAMP mobile app) and you can use default music player.

Syncness seems to work flawlessly on Wifi. I've only run a test sync so far but I'm confident that it will work just as I need it to.
Just a heads up! I found a really sweet music player that plays any file music file type that I throw at it! It's called DeaDBeef Player. Get it here. You'll also have to install the free plugins pack, which is here. I do a lot with music and what not, and this is the only player that I found that will play wavs; including 24 bit wavs! It's a little ugly, but VERY functional--I may try to theme it.

I dunno about lockscreen controls--I don't use 'em--but I know it has a 10-band EQ with a preamp control. Also, the free version has no limited functionality, just that it has ads and the pro does not.
Can you defeat the equalizer/tone controls? (Not just "zero" them, but remove them entirely from the path)

I'm not sure I understand what you're asking, but here's what you get in the EQ: 10 bands and 1 preamp (each with their own slider), levels from -20db - +20db, on and off button, presets button, and an "all zero" button. Hopefully that answered your question.
I believe Jeff is asking if you can "bypass" the software EQ and the associated sound degradation that a software EQ introduces. Please correct me if I'm wrong Jeff.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
That's correct. The better your headphones/IEMs get, the more you hear the kind of distortion introduced by most EQ software.
It looks like it has an "on/off" for the EQ which should hopefully pull it out of the signal path.
Sorry guys! For some reason I didn't get any new post notifications by email... but yeah, the on/off button acts as the "defeat" in regards to EQ. I also found out that this is using the same audio engine as the Linux version (link).
Says the Android version is very different but than try for sharing I will try it out
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium

Yeah... it's more for audiophiles than your average mp3 user. It will play anything...

Well, in the quest to discover what is draining my battery, it seems that my CM7/Trinity G2X has the Media Server bug.
I charged to 100% then rebooted my phone. I made some calls. Battery Monitor Pro showed my screen-off draw was only 12mA - great!
Then, using QuickPic I viewed some photos and looked at one video. Now my screen off draw has about tripled to 35mA.
For those that don't know, the Media Server bug means that after boot, once you view a photo the Android Media Server runs in the background and will not stop. It even runs when the screen is off and can prevent the phone from sleeping.
I'm wondering if Kang CM7 has this bug? Or is it a kernel issue?
O.K., I downloaded MP3 checker from CNET and ran it on my SD card. It found five corrupt mp3 files. When I deleted them I found that media server isn't using up CPU cycles anymore, the battery is running cooler, and I'm getting MUCH better battery life. YES!

MP3 Checker
Here it is:
MP3 Checker
It's just a straight pass/fail. Just one bad MP3 can cause the Android media scanner to scan the same mp3 file over and over. It not only drains your battery and slows your phone, it degrades your Flash drive.
First I ran MP3 checker on my laptop, mp3 files. Then I plugged in my phone as mass storage and used MP3 Checker on my laptop to scan my phone's memory. You must brutally delete any MP3 that shows up as bad. Don't be sentimental, if you want to back it up to your PC before deletion and maybe you can fix it (I don't know how to fix mp3 files, sorry).

thank you very much for your kind words. People like to trash the G2X but with the right mods it's a really powerful phone. My only regret is that I can't zoom while taking videos, but I can live with that.
UPDATE BELOW
Thanks for the info. Luckily I don't have bad mp3s on the phone. I'm currently scanning my pc and its finding about 1% bad so far with repeated frames. To be honest, all these mp3s play on the desktop just fine. I will do some research and post back if i find a way to repair them anyway.
UPDATE:
I found a way to "repair" the bad mp3s. I tried a program I already had on my pc called dbpoweramp music converter. If you never tried it then you are missing a whole lot. It's a must have tool for anyone with music files. It does everything you would ever need to mp3s and other formats. I use it to bulk re-encode high bitrate mp3s to a lower one to reduce filesize. Anyway, I used the resample feature. You right click on the mp3 and select 'convert to' then select your target quality (I use Quality (VBR) and set the quality to 180kbps). Output location is your choice. Then in Options I click 'Add' then 'Add DSP Effect' and select 'Resample'. Then Select your resample frequency I chose 44100 as that seems to be the standard for most mp3s.

They can play fine and still be had. MP3 players are forgiving in playing corrupted MP3 files (usualy due to repeated frames), but the Android system is not.
Even if they play fine, remove any corrupt MP3 files from your phone.
Like I said I don't have bad ones on the phone. Check above for one way to repair.
THIS IS NOT MY MOD. I AM NOT THE DEVELOPER. GO TO THE OFFICIAL THREAD AND SUPPORT THE DEVS CAUSE THIS MOD IS A BEAST.
This is by far the best sounding device for the Viper mod (imo).
Follow this link and READ the op, then download zip for the latest version near the bottom of post #1
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191223
Or visit there official website http://vipersaudio.com/blog/?page_id=48
Extract the file for 4.xx / open file / install apk.
Open the app and you will be prompted to install the driver. Choose high quality then it will install the driver and prompt you to reboot once completed. That's it! Once installed, you can then check for updated versions in the settings menu which is a nice feature.
To Start:
You will probably want the FX Compatible Mode set to Compatible since most music players EQ will not work together with the mod (settings / FX Compatible Mode / Compatible).
The stock music player is not compatible so you'll need to find one you like that is. I use power amp, but there is a setting you must enable for it to work. settings / audio / advanced tweaks / direct volume control and musicfx checked. Once this is done, return to the EQ settings and go to Tone/Vol tab. Make sure MusicFX is lit up. Sometimes the player will fug up and disable this while you're listening but still lit up. Just push it off then back on.
In Viper, there are three levels of settings. Go into settings / UI Setting and you'll see beginner, moderate, and expert. Each open a little more options in the main settings that will let you tweak the hell out of this thing. Most of what I tweak is only available in expert.
My Settings:
Ok, Let me start by saying that I listen to heavy metal so my overall experience may be different from yours unless you're a bad ass like me
Also, I pretty much use this in my car so my settings will likely sound different on what you've got. I have a 10'' sub with just 300 watts and factory door speakers. My power amp eq is only moved one notch up starting at 250 then two notches at 4k and 8k and the tone and limit buttons are off. When using the same settings, Country music and other stuff (Alice in Chains, Aaron Lewis, Stained etc.) sounds great too. To test the limit of your system and start with a good base, play some high quality classical music while tuning your settings.
For my car, I have the headset tweaked WITHOUT certain modes on to reduce constant 'waves' in the music.
- Playback Gain Controll, Field Surround, Differential Surround, Headphone Surround+, and Reverberation are all disabled.
- FIREquilizer is set at "Rock" then tweaked to reduce the low and high, and add a little mids.
- Impulse Response Samples (irs). I enable the convolver from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2439254. READ UP on this because it's difficult for me to explain. I just started using this one so I'm playing around with the different impulse resonse mods, but BBE Harmonic Maximizer Preset 2.irs is pretty damn nice. There are directions on how to install the files in that op.
- Dynamic System is enabled on mine. This will be part of where you will need to keep adjusting the settings to your liking. I use "Common Earphone(v2)" and set the dynamic bass at 4%.
- Fidelity Control is another one you will need to tweak. I enable ViPER bass, bass mode subwoofer, bass frequency 100 Hz, ViPER clarity is enabled, natural clarity mode, clarity at 6.0 dB.
The bass, guitars and kick drums come through the speakers without any distortion and the mids / highs are clear as hell without too much treble.
If you use headphones, you will probably need to modify your settings and use some of the surround sound stuff. I save two separate effect profiles though. This also applies to watching movies. You'll wanna play around with the settings and irs mods.

Good question. I guess it depends on what eq it uses. I deleted Google play music but I'll try Pandora and let you know.
