Best one out there? I'm looking for one with a good UI and live tile. I was looking at Clever ToDo. Any opinions?

i have been extremely happy with appamundi tasks
I actually use a OneNote tile. I name it "To Do - (x)" where x = # of tasks listed. Works well for me. Quick and easy. And for important stuff I use the calendar I get the reminder.
Doesn't quite answer your question I know :-/
The OneNote pin doesn't update on the tile though, does it? I've never tried it.
And I'll check out appamundi, thanks
If you're looking for a good exchange tasks app for free, take a look at Bring The Wine. It's still work in progress (head over to the apps forums, it has a thread there) but it's evolving very well.
I think the ultimate app for these things is OneNote.
"So what's today" is another very nice app for tasks. Doesn't have a live tile (yet) though.
Yeah a lot of these look amazing, I'm just hoping for a live tile so I can just glance quickly

Bring the whine actually has a live tile. So what's today doesn't. But its developer is very open to suggestions. I'm quite convinced he'd improve his app so it supports live tiles.
If a live tile is important, I'd recommend Clever to do. I use that app for most of my todo stuff but the app needs some work. It does not support recurring tasks and has some UI issues. However The live tile shows not just how many tasks but the task title as well.
If you need to sync your tasks to the cloud, I recommend Win Task which syncs with Rememberthemilk.com and (if you have a pro account) Outlook. Its really nice, but no live tile yet.
I've tried others To Due Tasks have recurring tasks, and "lil todo" has a very nice metro UI
Thanks guys, let me see which one is going to be best

I didn't even know this had been moved -.- just spent a long time looking for this thread since search is "down"
Anyway, thought I'd post this link since I'm the one who asked the question...

If it had a live tile, I would definitely support it's cost...
I'm still on this, yes, pathetic lol... Its between Appa and Clever... Anybody have any shots of the live tile of each?

CleverToDo is better, more often updates, LiveTile has much more informations. Easy and effective task management.

I think OneNote is fantastic, but no good for calendered tasks. But then, that's why OneNote lets you create and synchronize with Outlook tasks

Tasks are now built into mango using hotmail tasks...
Onenote now can use check boxes
I suppose either will be fine
Doesn't Mango support syning tasks now ?
From the Mango Previews I read even though Mango includes ToDo lists (in Calendar), they don't show up on the Calendar tile.
I'm using Lists & Things myself, no live tile yet but pretty easy to use, nice and clean UI.

Well in settings there is an option to show to-dos on the calendar. However it does not show up on the live tile. Perhaps its an unfinished feature?

Yes. Outlook tasks become ToDo items on the phone and appear as a separate page in the Calendar hub and are also visible in the day and agenda views. Well integrated, in other words. Don't know about the tile.

Hello,
I'm new here and I see a very smart guys around...I would like you to challange to give me some new, fresh ideas of apps/widgets. Doesn't matter how strage, crazy or funny is!
Can you do this?
Best regards
1) A srollable widget in witch you can place icons or other widgets so it acts like an app drawer
2) An app that can control an other android device like a remote control (already there for pc's). For axample: you can control your tablet that is connected to a tv.
As you said idea may sound crazy so would be great if you develop an app that cover the naked bodies when a porn website is opened on your device.

I don't think that would be possible with an application.
I think thats more of something that would need to be developed by the website owners.

You obviously know nothing of image recognition. That's actually quite a simple task, for a seasoned developer, using existing (and publicly available) libraries.
Maybe not actual clothing, but it could certainly cover nudity.
make a widget 1x1, 2x1, 4x1 size (or any suitable) that shows missed call count, unread sms and emails
should display something like:
(in 1 row) 2 calls, 1 sms, 2 emails
or
(in a column)
2 calls
1 sms
2 emails
or
instead of text, put small icons
then ability to hide if count is zero or change color if number is greater than zero.
don't forget to have ability to choose email inbox (if many are used)
for 2x1 widget, add ability to have battery percentage display and next alarm (this can easily fit if icons for missed, unread "stuff" is used)
The idea is to have a small, yet very informative widget that packs only important information: missed call, unread sms and email, battery level, next alarm. and ability to configure each information (color, position, icon, ability to hide)
I'm sure if this is implemented (or at least 50%), people will like it!
Nothing crazy but just a music control widget (► Play ▌▌ Pause ■ Stop) for google listen and maybe a universal control for whatever is playing at the moment.
Great!!! Keep it up!!!
Thank you guys!!! Very nice.
You are creative minds, more ideas, please, come on!!!
I would like to develop a very good application, original, useful and funny and can offer a prize (like money) for the best idea.
I think I can set up a "Top 20" Ideas and to the first 3 some to offer prizes.
What do you think?

1. Do you mean a launcher? There are some very good launchers (LauncherPro).
2. Like an Android Remote Control (something like VNC or Remote Desktop)?

I have one, and that, is to create music controls from the notification bar. Not sure if it involves a widget ;/ but would be great if someone could make it possible.

No offense - if some people know more than others, it doesn't mean they have got a license to degrade others. Come on add some wit and real fun in your lives too. Please please please please please make a Google Talk widget! Tons of people want this but it seems like no one is up for making a widget.
A good widget would maybe being able to view your messages or quickly reply to messages using the widget without launching gTalk itself.
Going further, maybe a better gTalk client in itself that allows for popup windows and quick replies. There are tons of apps/widgets like this for SMS, just wish gTalk got some love as it is used fairly widely.
I'd say it would be a surefire way to rake in some dough as there is absolutely no competition on the market. There is only client available is the official gTalk client (not counting multi-protocol IM clients) and only 1 gTalk widget on the market (status changer).
How about the ability to take a picture of documents with your camera and be able to use the data in excel. Sort of a text to column app using your camera. $$$
I presume most of us have Mango now officially or unofficially so as the title states, what is your favourite feature?
Unrelated note; if anyone wants an invite to Google+ PM me
There are lots of little things I'm really enjoying, but I'll at least narrow the list down to two:
a) The ability to only require a lockscreen password after a set time interval. Surprisingly useful!
b) Improved ListBox behaviour. Makes AlphaJax ad many other apps a joy to use instead of a jerky mess!
Sent from my HD7 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
err.. the ability to search contact by company name ahahahah...
and office skydrive ...
Even though the mult-tasking isn't actually working yet, I am enjoying having a way to switch between different tasks/apps quickly, instead of hitting the back button a bunch of times. It will be really nice once the actual multi-tasking portion is working.
1. The timed interval for password from the locked screen,
2. Unified inbox.
3. Pretty good bar code reader in Bing. Wish it would bring up a few more/better shopping results.
The new Bing utilities are great.
Multitasking & all the API's released to developers in general. Will allow for many things I've wanted.
Updated email & calendar - linked inboxes, threaded emails, birthday/holiday/facebook calendars all important to me.
New voice commands & dictation
Ability to add groups, and group features (group email ect)
Save settings in Camera
Full skydrive sync
Those are the big ones, but the whole thing seems amazing so far.

Ie9 is my favorite upgrade. I like that the OS performance is better in most areas. I like the new Bing features and more informative tiles.
I like the new phone layouts for placing and taking calls.
Like that I can switch and app, but no 3rd party aps take advantage from it yet as they all have to resume... and looking for a way to close apps in the task manager....

hi
large buttons!
1. Xbox live screen
2. merged inboxes
1. new xbox live
2. custom friggin ringtones! ( still trying to figure out how to get the custom alert sounds working)
3.IE is way better!
EDIT: for some reason, the podcast downloading from the phone doesnt work. says i need to check my data connection.
So is IE9 faster for everyone? Because it is straight up balls for me >.<
Not only is it faster but it also loads the pages correctly (Finally) my favourite feature has to be threads, it is so damn useful
1.Multitasking (Adding X button will be Perfect)
2.Groups
3.Chatting in Facebook and Hotmail
4.Save Camera Options
5.Linked emails
6.Software speed
7.New way to shutdown the device by sliding the lock screen down after pressing shutdown button.
8.New Layout
9.Grouping app Alphabetically
10.Battery Saver
On the other hand, Some languages still not supported
Search result doesn't find anything
Noway to backup SMS
Still some errors as it is a beta version.
Audio Confirmations
Audio Confirmations! Especially when the locksreen is on and the voice asks you, "would you like to read, reply, or ignore the text".
This is a feature you have to enable in "Speech Settings". It is very useful. You can set it to always on, Bluetooth and Headsets, Bluetooth Only, or wired headset. Give it a try....
IMO the most impressives are :
1. The Unified Message system...
Now all messages (and i mean all SMS-MMS-Facebook-Win Live) are in one place and have the same way of working.
If you try to text a contact the system tells you if he is online (FB or Messanger) and offers to send the message via them.
2. Contacts and Groups. Make a group (family or friends) and put some ppl in the group.
Then pin the group to start page. Fisrt it will give you a fast dialing option for them, and the most impressive
is that any message or FB event/notification or fotos that comes from one of those ppl on the group
will be there live with nice rotating animation.
You must try this ...its Fantastic
I like the new Zune player with Smart DJ.
Social Notifications and Groupings...
This is my favorite. If I have a family group it lists the updates from Facebook or Live which is nice to see. No longer is it necessary to go through a useless FB list in search of specific components about people I want to know about (impossibly difficult to do with any lengthy FB contact list.)
General Social notifications - if someone makes a comment on your picture in FB or in Live I like how the ME tile becomes useful by flipping over and giving you the notification. This is extremely useful to stay on top of the things you care about.
Pictures
I like the dynamic change of the tile - it's a nice eye candy feature
Turning a online gallary picture into a wallpaper is easy without copying to the phone
The people hub is pretty nice to see all your top contacted friend's picture quickly and easily
IE9 - much improved - EXTREMELY better
Local Scout - cool as hell
MOST USED TOOL - Voice to Text for SMS - absolutely killer feature with almost a 90% accuracy rating on short phrases.
Too many to list..
Here are my favorites in no particular order -
1. Shortcut to "Now Playing" on the volume drop down for music
2. unified messaging via Threads
3. Bing Vision
4. Updated zune player w/ "Related" artists and smart DJ, clearly marked downloadable songs for zune pass
5. Faster application and game installs
6. Improved Xbox live interface
Do you the windows 8 live tiles will make a hit in productivity because everything you need at your start menu. It may be mails or social network it anything at one place.
Well, in my opinion, if someone is getting a tablet, then it is either to be used as a personal lightly-used machine (think a netbook, like mail, social, photos, etc.) or it has a specific job at their work. I know some workplaces where employees travel about with tablets for quick access to work programs, etc.
In the first case, live tiles will be great. Recent tweets, number of Facebook notifications, unread e-mails... the list goes on. All at a glance.
In the second case, the user will usually unlock, go straight to the app and probably won't even see the live tiles too much.
I don't know... just some ramblings.
I hope developpers will have more possibilities to design and develop their own live tiles. The live tile API for windows phone is very restricted...
In windows 8 preview versions its easy to work with live tiles while developing.live tile system is going to be useful in many ways.Like notifications, last mails etc.I'm waiting it to be released badly!

So I've been wanting to find something to help me organize my life through the use of my phone for quite a while and have always come up short, mostly because of the oh-so-limited search functionality of the Android market (even on sites like Androlib etc.). Part of the problem seems to be the set of features I want to be included in the app, or at least in interlocking apps (ie one can be opened from within the other and data from one is seamlessly shared to the other), which up until now I have yet to find. So I've come here hoping that our community of tinkerers has found something that might fit the bill. Here is a list of the features I need / want:
Need:
- Calendar integration with alerts, preferably with Google calendar
- Appointments with alerts
- Tasks with multiple levels and with alerts
- Contexts
- Checklists that can be recycled and which can have alerts attached to both the list and individual items
- Contacts integration
- Multi-platform integration (ie can sync with online service and with my desktop)
- Easy to use and easy to keep using (read: doesn't require an hour of my time each day to make sure everything is set for the next)
- Useful widgets
- No monthly fee
- 100% functional (minus sync of course) without a data connection so it can be used when in poor coverage areas or on a plane
Want:
- Much prefer a "Getting Things Done" (GTD) style application
- Location specific alerts (ie upon getting home, a reminder to take the trash out... and yes, I do need this sometimes )
- 100% free (I'm willing to pay for the app, though not a monthly service, but I prefer not to if I don't have to)
- Integration with Email, Text, Phone, and Contacts (ie ability to set a callback appointment from within contacts or us an incoming email to generate a task)
- Persistent alerts (read: I'm going to dismiss something important at some point and I want to be reminded of it again automatically)
Anyway, I know this is a hefty list of demands, but if any of you have suggestions that can actually fit some or all of these, I'd really love to hear them so I can give them a try. I've been looking for this for a while and just can't seem to find something I that fits enough of my important criteria to make it useful to me.
Thanks.
You can try the following :-
Any.Do (free) - A basic to do app without the location feature, it has alarms, different levels of priority and also syncs with your browser.
Remember The Milk (free) - though some features which you are looking for such as location based reminders come with the pro version, which requires a monthly fee that adds up to 25 USD a year and is a bit too expensive in my opinion.
Astrid To do (free) - You can get extra features such as location based based reminders and widgets for about 4 GBP total.
Hope I helped!
Thanks a lot, I'll have a look at those to see if they fit the bill. Do any of them have calendar integration?

I guess that's another one I'll have a look at, but the thing is that I'm looking for a daily planner, which is also a task manager so I can build to-do lists into my schedule, while also having a good schedule app, if that makes any sense. Kind of an all-in-one type of thing with as much versatility / features as can be packed in.

I've spent the last few hours messing around with Astrid today (not the locale plug in though) and found that it lacks the ability to make a reoccuring checklist or at least subordinate lists (ie a task with a list of tasks contained within it) which is one of the most important features that I'm looking for. Unless I just haven't found the right way to do it, if I wanted to make a recurring checklist for cleaning the house, for example, I'd have to enter in each separate cleaning item as its own task which would be cumbersome and also would start filling up my inbox with old tasks pretty quickly if I decide to defer some items off a week or two.
I guess now the question is what would be your second recommendation, if any, while keeping in mind the need for checklists / subordinate tasks? Do any of the other apps like Doit.im, Shuffle, or DGT GTD (all of which have subordinate lists, but not checklists a la remember the milk, and all of which I've tried, but not been able to use successfully for one reason or another) have locale-type add-ons?
Thanks again

You talk about a requirement for a multi-level checklist, unless I'm mistaken, is it the same as the one in the first screenshot of Astrid's Google Play page? Doit.im, Shufle and DGT GTD do not seem to have location add ons, but I did come across another app which might interest you :- "2Do: To do List | Task List" It's for about 6.99 USD and it does seem to have all features EXCEPT location based notifications. My advice would be to fully explore/understand Astrid and then buy the add on if you're interested. I still think it has the necessary feature (sublists) , I am downloading the app and figuring out how to do the same, if I find a way, I'll post it here.
EDIT: To make subtasks, create the two seperate taks (for example let the main one be clean room and the subtask be make the bed), then longpress make the bed and drag it to the the faint grey divider you can see between every task, when you drag it there, you may notice that make the bed got indented to the right and that should make your subtask list! You can verify if your subtask has been included by checking the main task, in this case, clean the room, and if both clean the room and make the bed get checked out you should have understood the whole process. Similarly, you can add more subtasks, say vaccuum the floor, by longpressing and dragging it to the divider just below the main task. Hope I Helped!

I appreciate the help so far. I'm once again moving away from Astrid because I can't seem to get the subtasks to reoccur as subtasks on a daily / weekly schedule. I'm a manager at a restaurant, so I tried to put together a store closing checklist, which worked fine the first day, but when I set it to repeat for the second day, it did not retain the subtasks as subordinate to the main task and mixed them all in with other tasks I'd created. In addition to this problem, I've been unable to get any tasks that I create to sync with my calendar, even when enabling the GTasks sync and then having GTasks sync with my calendar, which again means that a primary function is not working as needed, or at least I have not been able to figure it out.
I'm going to have a look at 2Do to see what its got going for it, but I'm starting to feel like a lot of the apps that we've discussed so far, while still decent apps which are well written, are not going to present me with the catch-all I was hoping for.
On a side note, I have found that more apps are starting to include location based reminders, but they often come with fatal flaws for my desired use. MyLifeOrganized has location based reminders, but the only way to sync it to my calendar is to use either the cloud based sync or the desktop program both of which cost extra money and, from what I've read, create a system where getting tasks to appear in your calendar is hit or miss at best.
I've also noticed a distinct lack of proper calendar integration in everything I've tried. Some are able to put a task on the calendar, but if I want to be able to attach a to-do list to an appointment or time block, which is possible from what I understand about the calendar code, there just isn't any kind of option beyond making the appointment and then making a task which is due at the same time. Maybe I'm asking too much of these apps?

You ARE asking for a for a really feature heavy app. I guess what you require isn't just available in one single app right now. Maybe if you would be willing to combine 2 or 3 apps to get the job done you could achieve what you need. I'm sure app devs will add more features, but as of now I guess all apps I can suggest are insufficient for your needs. If you want, I can tinker around a bit and see what apps you can use as a combination?

I am willing to combine apps, but only if they are interlocking, or at least very easy to use together. Trying to juggle 2-3 different sets of tasks / appointments / calendars just seems like it would be too cumbersome for me to stick with it, which is ultimately going to be the deciding factor about how successful the app(s) are for my needs. If I have to re-enter a new set of checklists, or even re-subordinate each subtask every time I want a checklist to repeat, I'm not going to use it very long. Just like if I have to do triple-entry bookkeeping to have an appointment or project deadline, plus have that project have a to-do list associated with it, and also have trouble integrating everything into a single calendar, I'm not going to use it very long. If any of that makes sense?

I've always used a lot Evernote before, Google Keep later, but I've always felt that both of them were missing something I needed.
Evernote is very complete but too complex generally speaking, offline notes are available only on paid version and "too many clicks" are required to accomplish a task.
Google Keep is perfect to me for its interface but on the other side it has a poor multimedia attachment support, needs a registered account (like Evernote), and has only manual notes sorting.
So, starting from this point I started developing from scratch an open source application that is still far from being complete but is growing thanks to actual beta stage users feedback.

The only thing that I'm looking for is a good note taking app with a floating mode. Add that and you'll win me over.
I just tried the app out and I liked it a lot. Great job! Keep it up!

Thanks for your support!
What exaclty do you mean talking about floating mode? Something like the application widget but always staying on top of other apps?

Sorry for the late reply but yeah. That's exactly what i mean. You can check the play store for an app called floating stickies. Thats exactly what i wish for but unfortunately the app isn't being developed anymore.

I've seen what you meant, actually its not a prioritary feature.
The first things that must be competed are checklists and cloud synchronization.
Anyhow I'll be glad if you'd join the Google+ Community and add your request to the apposite section!
I love the interface and I really like that clock when setting the reminder time, it really is a cool time setting clock, however, is it possible to add in an am/pm option instead of the 24 hour clock? I am from the U.S. and while I like the idea of a 24 hour clock since the rest of the world uses it, almost no clocks here use the 24 hour format and it is just easier for me to use am/pm. Also do you plan, or is there a way, to add in some sort of check box option next to reminders or notes to indicate that they are done/taken care of or perhaps make an option to create either a regular nnote or a checklist type note something like that?

Hi, thanks for your feedback.
I never thout about it but yes, I could do without too much throuble, but that modification will be postponed after the core set of feature I've wrote about many posts before.
One of these features is (yes it is) the "checklist mode".
I will develop that so that users could interchange mode without requiring choose it at note creation time.
New stable version is out!
New beta 4.2.0Beta1 rolling out.
The sketch feature is very simple and highly experimental, so don't rely so much on it, it will be ready for stable version!
Checklist-mode is fully functional, many configuration options are available in application settings.
This is also capable of importing notes shared from many others apps (Google Keep for example), so try it!
Last but not least, a 12-hour clock has been introduced along with many graphical improvements made and a lot of bugfixes.
Check it out!

This is awsome ive had it for a while now just keeps on getting better!!
Awesome! I've been searching for a good open source note app for years now. I recently found one, but it was a little bit too minimalistic.

By the way, the icon needs to be redesigned.
Nice app, simply beautiful. How can I help you in Spanish translation?
Sync idea
Great idea is to have a Sync solution based on own synology NAS !
Nice!! +1
Very nice work you make and excellent mix between Evernote and Keep
I love Keep cause the simplicity but the Evernote cause de multi-platform
now you just need work in cloud sync
Support for the samsung s-pen and you win me over. Excellente application!
