3rd Party Live Tiles not updating - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I recently bought a LG Optimus 7 and I have all the latest updates (NoDo) and I also developer unlocked my phone.
Anyway, when I tried to use apps with live tiles from the marketplace (Wheather Bug, The weather channel etc.), none of them were updating.
The MS ones (Contacts, Pictures, Hotmail, SMS and Xbox Live) are working fine.
I already searched on the internet and I did the following thins to get them working again:
- Reinstalled the apps
- Turned the push service on and off (Weather Bug)
- Un- and repinned the apps
- Restarted the phone
- Used a registry editor to empty two folders
- Waited
However, nothing seems to help.
I really don't want to have to do a hard reset. Is there anything else one could try?
EDIT: Also I live in Germany and my phone is set to German etc. I have WiFi and in the bar at the top it always says "H" but I don't know what this stands for (HSDPA?)

Well it seems to work now after I pinned the Messenger app to the start screen (which is also a live tile).
However, I still have a little problem with Weather Bug.
When I installed the app I searched for my city and it found a weather station not very near to where I live. However, I clicked "save" and was then given the ability to name the weather station and also to change the weather station. I changed this to a weather station that is nearer to my home and I also changed the name of this city.
Within the app, it now says the name of my city like it should. However, the live tile still shows the name of the original weather station (which is not saved in the app anymore), but the weather info (the icon and the temperature) match the data for my city within the app.
Is there any way to change the name that is displayed on the live tile?

same problem here (HTC HD7) !!

Yeah my Live Tiles stopped working again. That means all but the MS ones. The Messenger app also does not update the live tile.
EDIT: well now it works again. I guess I'll never understand how this works.
Also I now use WeatherDuck instead of Weather Bug. Weather Duck correctly displays my current city name although I think the current temperature is not as correct as in the weatherbug app.

Hi, same problem here HTC Hub tile not updating and so as other 3rd party application's tiles.
any suggestion what weather applicaiton is good?
cheers...

I tried the same registry trick witk LG optimus 7 but live tiles never start...

Would anyone know why after using this app successfully for the past 2 weeks on my rhodium htc tp2 phone, that all of the sudden now I'm getting a WebException error?
EDIT: I found the answer in another thread. Apparently the weather site is down and they're working to resolve the problem. I guess I'll have to wait for it to come back up.

[APP][1.5+] WebLiveWallpaper: set whatever you want as wallpaper or widget! (v0.98.4)

WebLiveWallpaper: Set content (galleries/animations/sites/cams from the web or local files/folders) as Live Wallpaper, live widget or as picture frame.
Create your personal show, create your own (animated) wallpaper with JavaScript!
Original first post:
I wrote my first live wallpaper today because I did not find something like it and thought it should not be too difficult to do. So here it is. I always wanted a real live wallpaper displaying something from the web instead of just a picture or offline animation. For me it is really useful because I can keep an eye on my favourite webcam over the day and decide to go there if the conditions stay or improve. A lot of other use cases should be possible ...
There is now also a picture frame app and a live widget included (also running on devices without live wallpaper support).

Noone else thinking this is a great idea?
This enables you to get an automated cycling flickr-Wallpaper, the National Geographic Pic of the Day automatically on your homescreen. Or the latest News-Picture, or your wallpapers from many image galleries. And of course webcams ... and so on. I think this freedom and possibilities is what makes Android so great!
New version with asynchronous loading, much improved website parsing. Still a lot to do (performance, widget, website redirects supported, better organisation of links and settings, ...) and so little time. But I really think this one has to appeal to some more people than just on a few sports-forums I read/post where people enjoy watching webcams!?!
New apk attached to first post!

I'll def give this a try!
this is awesome! thank you..
This seems a brilliant yet simple idea and seems to be well done. I will give this a try but its not realy for me as i dont have a data plan and only really use my wifi at home to connect so the updates on the pic would not be frequent enough.....maybe one day I will treat myself.
Thanks for your hard work
Def. bookmarked for later use. Very good idea.
New version 0.84 with optimizations and better gallery support
Loading is faster now (and you can enable a progress bar if you are curious/need to know).
I also added an option to dig into picture galleries (load the large version of the image which looks much better as a wallpaper on highres phones).
For the next update I am working on cycling the gallery pictures instead of using the most recent "best" one so there will be even more Live for more 'static' webpages.
New apk attached to first post!
Awesome. Thanks!
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Version 0.9
Has a lot of changes (hopefully good ones) with the loading and gallery stuff and a LOT of options to set everything fine.
For example WIFI exclusive updating has been added! Also the quick selections have presets now to explain useful settings for your sites ...
Still a lot to do. Next will be password protected webcam/server access.
0.9.1 fixes some things
no more default WIFI-only enabled (red screen if mobile at first start)
fixes of parameters for some quick selection items
no more crashes with wrong/incomplete URLs entered by hand
0.91 ... watch xdadevelopers (or other website) live on your homescreen background
See last screenshot attached to first post It's a hack (web snapshot) I may regret/have to replace by something else later and not fast. But should be ok for a lot of use cases.
And a lot of more serious updates like a sorted settings menu, access to standard password protected servers/cams, better gallery updating with long refresh times.
Edit: v0.91.1 can now be opened after install/in market for all those people not knowing what a wallpaper is!
Taking a look at this on my sgs!!
Dev, you should have more confidence in patience, it's a great idea ;-). I typically wait until things hit the RSS, so I'm sure you'll see a little spike since it just came up in the past 20 minutes.
Good luck! I do have a question, have you judged the battery life impact? I did see the custom refresh rate option, but still I am curious to see what impact it had on both your idle and active battery life stats if you update as often as a regular widget since it'll probably download more data.
Suggestions: Be able to set up a schedule
Preferably with different settings for different days. For instance, M-F have it set to use pic of the day with an update every 24 hours, then on weekends have it set up to show a web/weathercam every 15 mins.
Also, being able to set it, instead of every X seconds, being able to set it to update maybe 3x on M-F would help out in a few cases. Example, to see a traffic or weather cam just before going to/from work.
Good luck, I look forward to seeing what you do with it, I'll let you know my findings.

all i can say is AMAZING
and also FOOTBALL scores as my live wallpaper FTW
come on you POOL!
Very nice. Works pretty well.
It would be real nice if you could get the picture to use the whole screen. Not sure if you are constrained by the site of course but I want to use this on my Archos 101 and it has a 1024X600 resolution so I get a lot of black bars.
Thank you for making this available.
Good idea.
How is on battery life though?
Very interested to see where this goes. Great idea IMHO. Subscribed.
Nice work.
Nice work. While trying this out, I ran across an issue. I accidentally the refresh time. If you enter nothing for the refresh time, it will force close (v0.91.2).
Great idea
Think of busy parents whose kids are in a daycare with kiddie cameras...live feed of your baby !
Awesome app. Ive bben wanting something like this for a while. Maybe could add some battery saving settings. thank you !!!!!!!

Looking for a Dash Clock Weather widget that doesn't use GPS

I recently found DashClock and I like it a lot, however all (two actually) weather widgets I found use GPS to get the loocation as opposed to allowing the user to manually set a location. This forces me to leave GPS always on and that's not something I find acceptable :tinfoil: :battery drain:
So do you know of any other weather widget for Dash Clock?

You can set it to check ever few hours (you specify) just because the GPS is on, doesn't mean that its actually on all the time.
If you are still sceptical download 'betterbattery stats'
and check what wakelocks (kernel and CPU) are occurring. you'll notice that the GPS isnt one of them.

[APP][2.2+]Weather4Cast

I released a new app to view weatherforecast for the next 5 days on the play store.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maximussoft.simpleweather
It is mean to be a very simple weather app.
No widgets, notifications etc.
Just clean clear fast weather.
The feed is driven by http://openweathermap.org/
The icons are from Adam Whitcroft's famous climacons.
It is meant to be extremely simple with no extras at all. Just to keep it bug free. There is one issue though, if you enter a really wide range (like a state name) in the location, it does return with the location but is unable to fetch the weather.
Please let me know if you see any issues.

Looking for Hourly Weather App

I am looking for a Weather App that gets me quickly to the hourly weather forecast for today / tomorrow. I am looking for something like this web page.
I do not want to waste my time or bandwidth (...or battery) downloading a full screen weather radar map to get it. I prefer not to be distracted by the useless 10-day weather forecast. Looking at it just leads to lifelong aggrevation and disappointment, LOL.
Suggestions?
Browser Kind Of Works
I have not found any app that does exactly what I want. Right now, I am using the built-in browser in CM 12.1 with images disabled.
I have my home screen set to:
Code:
https://weather.com/weather/hourbyhour//l/07627:4:US
There is one glitch with this that I find annoying. This page will not display properly without javascript. Sometimes the page uses that privilege to show me something I did not ask for. This week, it wanted to force me to look at trending news instead.
