[Q] Accidently unplugged my phone during odin one click reset!!! - Captivate General

I was downloading into my captivate when i accidently unplugged the phone while it was going through everything.....Now i cant get my phone into download at all...using every method i know. its stuck in a loop between the att screen and black screen...wont do anything else...and when i plug it into the usb it shows an empty battery icon then goes black.....i am so curious...how do i get out of this??????

have you tried the pull battery, put back in, hold vol -/+ and plug the usb in?

you messed it up!
try using using a jig. buy or make. read all the instructions. hold with tape..
try your button combo again, keep the buttons held!
if no go... warranty and lie your ass off!
and i think i have read in almost every how to video.... "BE CAREFUL TO NOT PULL OUT THE CORD WHILE FLASHING!"

yes ive tried it. and i will if it does...

Jig that's all you can do. And how hard is it for people to go into dl mode start one click and step away. Ever other day new post unplug now I'm bricked.

Hey, I have a manic ass pit bull, he has unplugged mine before during odin. It happens!
He chills under my desk while I'm sitting at it (best foot warmer ever) and someone knocked on the door, he went to see what's up and took the chord with him. Lucky for me my button combo works.
If it was a cat I bet a million it would've bricked. Cats suck.
Op ... time to live big willy style and get jiggy with it.

Bricked Captive, freaking out.

I'm pretty sure I bricked my captive. I have the phone-!-computer icon whenever I try to turn it on. I was using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818439 that guide to give me the three button fix but when I went to pick up my phone during the process the batter slipped out(it wasn't secure -.-) and now I'm stuck at that icon. Please tell me there's some way to unbrick my phone.
Hold down both volume buttons and plug it in. If it goes into download mode you can just flash with odin. If not you need to make a jig. Search around for both these. Either way, you should be good.
I'm guessing my phone was either a newer or older version so the volume+power buttons won't work to get it into the download mode. I guess I'll try a jig tomorrow.
On eBay I will find 1 for 10 dls or so its always good to have 1 of those next to ur pillow so u can sleep well

That is true, I was freaking out and hoping I didn't have the most expensive paperweight in the world until I started searching around and found that a jig is my last hope.
Here is a guide I made which covers the Phone--!--PC problem..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1012769
I had that same problem with my captivate, and didn't realize at the time that mine didn't come with the 3 button fix either. What always works (although you might have to do it a couple times because the timing has to be pretty precise) is take the battery out, plug the USB cord (after you plug it into your computer) into the phone while holding the volume up and down buttons at once. Then (with the cord in and the volume buttons still held), put the battery back in. This will work, even if your phone doesn't come with the 3 button fix.
After the phone works, be sure to flash the 3buttonfix.zip file. Do a google search and find the xda thread on it.
If you are going to get a jig, get it from mobiletechvideos.com. They are only $8, and come from a reliable source. If you get it on ebay you never know the quality. For this problem, you certainly won't need a jig. It is actually very difficult to hard brick a captivate, which is partly due to the fact that the bootloader is unlocked. Be sure you have the captivate insurance from AT&T.

The thing is your guide doesn't say what to do if Odin can't even detect your phone.
As for just holding the volume buttons, nothing happens. just stays at the phone-!-PC icon.
Next time put the battery cover back on before starting the process. Lesson learned.
Get a jiggggggggg

Be sure to do what I said above. The problem is actually very easy to solve but you need the right sequence of button/usb/battery
Phone--!--PC is just a download mode. If the computer does not recognize the phone, reinstall drivers, reboot and pull the battery out, then try again.
Try THIS out. See if that fixes it.
This worked for me once...

fully bricked captivate? share stories here!

i bricked my captivate. fully bricked.dead. gone. haha it was all my fault though. i flashed back to stock and wanted to see if there was an update OTA. there was so i downloaded it. forgetting that i always have the update.zip form clockworkmod (so i dont have to keep rooting to flash a rom) on the root of my sd card, the update.zip from the download went somewhere. i dont know where it went. so the message popped up saying do i want to update now so i did. it booted into this software update screen. halfway through the process it said 'installation aborted. going to reboot . so the phone shut off and never came on again because it was installing the clockworkmod file. not to mad tho. haha did it right on the day my contract expired. now im getting the inspire
post you stories here!
I doubt its bricked, make a usb jig to bring it back to life.
nah just gone. tried putting it on the charger. battery gets hot. tried jig. nothing. not even the capacitive buttons light up
i'll buy it off you for 10 dollars
I had infinite loop for an hour, so my battery died pretty much and i didnt notice that...I was using one click odin to flash to stock..and it turned green...i pulled everything out....again tried in download mode and now it turned pink...so again I pulled everything and tried to put it in download mode....Dead...complete dead...tried everything I could....

I too received the green screen when flashing...Fortunately I can get to the download mode use a jig, although I cannot do anything from there. My computer recognizes the phone but I get no response when trying to flash the firmware.

I second that idea.
Somehow I've managed to fully brick my phone more than ten times!! Always came back to life with dl mode or jig but mostly persistence, gotta keep trying the jig and volume up down buttons followed by endless connecting and disconnecting USB cables to get it to take.

That's not full brick... Full brick won't go into download mode. It will just sit therea dn do nothing. Not even get hot when you put it on the charger.
Listen guys... I need a for-real bricked captivate. Black screen, won't do anything at all for testing... This is why.. If you have a brick, please PM me. I'll return it after testing, hopefully in a working condition.
That "brick" in the video, that's a soft brick. it's not a full, hard brick.
I'm trying to NOT black-screen hard-brick my own phone... If you have one around which is bricked, please let me know and I'll try to fix it. I need one for testing before I go bricking my extra phone for real

This happend to me as well. Battery died during Odin. Completely black screen. Wouldn't charge and would get hot while plugged in.
****, i guess i just fully bricked mine >_> was updating to 2.2 via kies mini and it froze on 46% of installation because it doesn't work on win x64. Went to download mode through 3 button, tried Odin and it ****ing failed on me. Now this piece of **** won't even turn on. Gonna try a jig, but i read multiple times on multiple places that it won't work if the phone doesn't even turn the screen on, so i guess i'm ****ed.

Well, I'm glad to f*¢king hear it
Glad you got it going.
I tried to flash
{Stock Rom} Odin JF6 with 3 button fix
with odin because my 3 button wasn't working.
Everything seems like it was going fine Odin says successful, but when it was supposed to restart. It never turned back on. Now the screen never turns on when I try to power on, charge, or use my JIG.

[Q] my screw ups :)

i think (well.. im pretty sure. Well.. mostly sure..) i have screwed myself bad this time...
last night i was using odin to flash to stock. got it ready and ran it while i ate dinner (Meh nothing will happen. I'll be okay.) i came back and it was still on Modem.BIN and it had very little left (the green bar almost filled the whole thing) so i thought it would take like another 30 seconds max so i checked facebook. well 15 minutes later i remembered my phone. That was still on the Modem.BIN file. "well balls... maybe unplug it and retry??? :/" unpluged it and went to put it into download mode. It boots into 3e recovery. "balls well lets boot up and shut it off and try again!" as it boots up it vibrates. Then force quits something. (i didnt get a notification) then force quits again 2-3 seconds later. and keeps force quitting.
Thats what happened here what i know.
I dont have a radio/modem file so i cant connect. (useful phone eh?)
when its rooted it will force quit something in the background CONSTANTLY
I cant put it into Download mode from the 3 button method.
A recent developement it My SuperOneClick is not responding (GTG_ultimate_unbrick) when i go to root. (im working on this one.)
What should i do? I want it back stock working so i can root and flash a new ROM (and probably mess it up again!) what should i do?
You said can't go into download with three button? You need to pull battery put back in and hold the volume buttons while plugging in USB cable to go to download mode no three buttons hope it helps

[Q] How to wipe data, with a broken unable to see screen?

Long story short, party at my house, kid drinks too much, throws my phone across the room (Skyrocket I-727 obviously) 2 weeks after I had it and boom spider webs the screen. Now I can sell it, but I need to wipe the data
Unfortunately I can't see the screen. It turns on and you can hear it still works, just needs a new screen but I really don't want to spend the $180 on a brand new screen (lowest price I found)
I heard there was a way and searched for hours on google and here. Is there any way to wipe the data without actually seeing the screen?
Thanks!
Do a battery pull, and then turn phone on holding down volume down. Wait a few minutes and then connect usb to phone and computer. Press volume up, and run Odin. it should show phone is connected. Flash complete stock image at&t or Rogers, and bobs ur uncle

Yes forgot to mention it's through AT&T. And I will try when I get home, thanked you for your post!
Do I just hold the down volume button to turn it back on after the battery pull or the power on button too? I can't hear it turn on with the volume button, but when I press the power button you can hear it turn on

Phone is fully charged, and when I battery pull and try to turn it on using the down volume button nothing.....then I try the power button it turns on just fine.
Step 1 isn't working :/
Think it turned on....not sure. And not sure if I downloaded the right odin. Ah, this is confusing
do a battery pull then stick your jig in and wait 5 seconds then plug it into odin and see if that works

Yes that Odin will work... pull battery insert battery plug USB into PC open Odin hold both volume up and volume down then plug USB into phone wait about 10 secs then hit volume up button... Odin should put yellow box in Odin com section..

Just wondering because of your post: Is your phone rooted?
If you happened to leave USB debugging checked just turn the phone on and wait for it to boot and then use adb to reboot into download mode.
If you don't have the sdk set up you can download it and then go wherever you install it to, open the tools folder and ctrl+right click mouse open cmd prompt here. Type adb devices to verify it sees your phone and if it does type adb reboot download. That will put your phone in download mode.
^^^^^ that is why I leave debugging enabled at all times. Gives you a failsafe should your screen take a crap on you.

Just a thought and not sure if this will work but try using a mhl, toggle connect it to your tv then you can navigate through the system.
Sent from my Xoom using xda premium
Nevermind if the touch screen is broken then you can really navigate.... Sorry
What about hooking the phone up to the computer and then using the SDK to take screen captures of the phone. That way you can at least see what screen is pulled up on the phone..
But again, is the phone rooted? Or is it stock?

[Q] Bricked

So my infuse's bottom touch screen buttons, (search, home, back, and menu/settings) stopped working randomly, it was just a matter of me checking my phone for texts while walking around and the buttons were dim, so I restarted the phone 4-5 times to try and fix it, but nothing helped it.
So I put the phone in download mode and tried to get it back to stock using odin. But it froze at cache.rfs for half an hour so I disconnected it. I got the phone ! pc screen from this point on and my phone was still being recognized by my computer at this point as well. I called it a night and left it plugged into my computer until the next day, I tried a different USB port in the morning after I installed samsung mini kies for drivers (even though it was already recognized) and tried using odin again. Again, it froze at cache.rfs so I unplugged my phone and now I can't even turn it on to get to the phone ! pc screen. When I hold down the power button now though, even with my phone charging, nothing happens. I tried power button + volume button too, and nothing happened. It can't even be recognized by any of my computers either. What do I do now? I have warranty on it through AT&T but I'm not sure what their terms are flashing and stuff. (Luckily I did a backup on my phone before flashing )
I had similar problems with Odin freezing at cache.rfs. I tried three USB calls and they all did the same thing. I then tried another USB cable at my work and it flashed the uclb3 unbrick like a champ. My guess for your situation would be a bad USB, try another. Hope that helps

Ok, it's plugged into another USB port but again, it doesn't even turn on to show me the phone ! pc screen. I do notice that when I hold down power, for a split second after a few moments of holding down the button, there is a flash coming from the right side of the screen. Until I can get it recognized on my computer I think I'm at a loss.
Sounds like the battery is out of juice. You'll need to charge it or put a new battery in before you can get back to download mode.

Wouldn't you agree though that I should be able to boot up with it plugged into a charger?
update:
almost 12 hours later of charging my infuse with various chargers and cords, I still can't even get a samsung logo. Just a black screen with the occasional white blip on the right side while I hold down the power button. Looks like I"m without a phone for the time being. I have insurance on it so I"ll take it to the AT&T store asap. If worse comes to worse, I might buy a galaxy nexus hehe

Not if its bricked...its the kernel that allows the phone to charge when its off...so you'll either have to try a battery only charger (whereyou take out the battery and put it in a square charger thing...one that doesn't charge it through the phone/USB) or just buy or borrow a new battery
And when a phone dies you have to plug it in and let it sit for a little while before you van turn it on again

Ahhhhh, thank you for that good bit of info. I never thought that the power to the battery was governed by the phones kernel. Do you know where I could buy one of these chargers? After posting this I'll do a google search myself, but just in case.
Thanks very much.
Edit:
Ok, so after I get some juice into my battery I should just try all unbricking steps again?
