[q] need help with clockwork through nvflash - T-Mobile LG G2x

I HAVE READ OVER ALL THE INSTRUCTIONS I CAN FIND ON THE TOPIC AND I KEEP GETTING CONFLICTING ANSWERS. THIS IS AN EXAMPLE ---you'll need to have nvflash setup properly and the NVidia boot-recovery driver installed. good instructions can be found here http://android.modaco.com/content/lg...-links-active/
download test2.img http://mirror.dal.tdrevolution.net/c...h-recovery.tgz
place the recovery-star-test2.img in your nvflash folder.
download clockwork recovery test2-- http://mirror.dal.tdrevolution.net/c...h-recovery.tgz . extract it.
in the extracted folder of cwm recovery test2, i took all the files except for test2.img and nvflash and put them in my nvflash folder.----
I BELIEVE I HAVE ALL THE CORRECT FILES I NEED AND I HAVE NVFLASH SET UP ON MY G2X. I NEED TO KNOW EXACTLY WHAT HAS TO BE WHERE WHEN I ENTER THE CODE IN COMMAND PROMPT. ABOVE IT SAYS TO PLACE THE TEST2.IMG FILE IN THE NVFLASH FOLDER BUT THEN RIGHT AFTER IS SAYS TO PUT EVERYTHING BUT THAT INTO THE FOLDER. I AM VERY CONFUSED. NEED HELP. THANKS

This is the third thread you've made on this subject. All the information given to you was accurate. Please don't make more people start from scratch helping you on the same issue ESPECIALLY when a completely guide was made in the development section.
Also, lay off the caps man

In one sentence you told me to put the test2 .img file into the nvflash file. Then right below it you tell me just the opposite!! You tell me to put all the files EXCEPT the test2 .img file.. If it was a little more clear and I could understand I wouldnt have to start three threads. Remember, we are all not at your level and even you were an noob once too. Finally, none of the threads I can find explain anything about where and what exactly from the test2.img do I use and where do I put them. Not to mention my other two threads are on setting up nvflash and not so much cwr.

[help]anybody can tell me how to convert official ROM to update.zip

anybody can tell me how to convert official ROM to update.zip
I want to know how to make an official from the ROM can customize the ROM, instead of only at others do the update.zip in thickening delete...
First, you need to run the RUU.
Check in your system TEMP folder, and you should have an update.zip there.
Unzip that, and you'll have amongst others, system.img
Extract the files via unyaffs or other means, customize your build, zip and sign.
Voila.
My guess is that a simple search via the search tool would've resolved that, then again, I guess you were too lazy to do that.

He actually told you in the post above to use unyaffs, all you need to know is already in this forum if you search for it. Here's a thread to get you started:

http://code.google.com/p/unyaffs/downloads/list
made for linux, but if you know a bit of c, you can probably change it to work with windows, maybe I will do that if I have some time this week.
********OR********
http://jiggawatt.org/badc0de/android/unyaffs-x86-win.zip
or http://www.4shared.com/get/fgryPnPx/unyaffs-windows.html
for windows..... instructions below apply for both
if not included in the zips above, cygwin1.dll and unyaffs.exe are included as an attachment of this reply.
open up a command line, in windows vista/7 just press start and then type cmd press enter and change the directory to the folder with the unyaffs and the img in it. in xp press start>run>cmd... then the same
the usage is: unyaffs /path/to/img
example:
(if unyaffs.exe and system.img are both in c:\temp)
"c:\temp> unyaffs /temp/system.img"
note: the '/' is the way linux determines the pathname of a file and since it is built using cygwin(a file allowing for windows) it is preferrable that the path to the actual file is in unix POSIX format ie: / instead of \ between folders and files.
*********WARNING************
this will extract to directory that unyaffs binary is in.
That's so weird -- I was gonna post the same thing tonight. Thx for writing this up. It's odd that more people don't talk or ask about this tool!
I remember reading this stuff back when I got my G1, and tonight I was trolling the themes and apps section cause I couldnt sleep. (which I rarely look at)
I was baffled that this wasnt common knowledge. I figured if there was no threads about it that people just knew how and didnt have any problems with it. My mistake lol...
enjoy.
can you please explain what is it? what it does? thanks

Umm, it expands nandroid img files not sure how else to explain it. Clockworkmod backups are in the img file format. This process allows you to extract those files to get stuff out of them
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
When you create a backup in Clockwork recovery, it leaves you with a folder like this:
2010-11-18.08.52.49
As you can prob figure out, I made that backup on 11/18 at 8:52am
Inside that folder are .img files, such as: data.img and system.img
Those files basically contain your data (like apps you've installed from market) and system (..system apps that might've come with the phone).
In the orig post, he's explaining how to extract the files from these large .img files.
To give an example, I had a couple of corrupted clockwork backups, and wanted to ONLY pull out some database files (like text messages and call logs) which were not corrupted. Even tho the backup was messed up, I could still extract the files I needed by using the method above, then copied them manually to my phone.

Right, like if you wanted a file or a few files from clockworkmod img backup, then this process would give you an extended file system, other than what you would normally use to extract the img files. Just trying to understand this so, please correct me if im wrong.... I've been trying to get more knowledge of this, so im still learning.
I prolly sound like a complete idiot, lol...
Sweet! Thanks for this man. I'd been looking for how to do this for some time and kept ending up learning about emulation or some other tangential topic. This is the basic functionality I was looking for. Thanks for posting!
Np. I'm working on writing some stuff on top of the source code that should allow you to browse and pull just one our more file
Its been a but since I looked theory source code so it might take a while... Maybe in between semesters?

Dode you saved my as** thx big thx
Great, now how can I re-compress back to .img after I've made the changes that I want?
EDIT: Nevermind. I just made a zip of the new system folder and flashed it in CWM.
This worked great for me.
Thanks,
Bud
Man, I do not know how to thank you. I was able to recover some important stuff off of my cwm recovery backup. THANKS!!

[Q] ADB push location

Hey all,
Just curious as to where a file needs to be if I want to push or flash to my Xoom via adb. Meaning if I have a recovery.img and want to flash it to my phone, where do I need to put the file before i flash? I'm guessing I'd put it in the tools folder of my sdk directory, but not positive. ADB is installed to C:\android-sdk-windows\tools, so if I drop the img into tools, it will flash correct. I've done it before but put the file in a few different spots just to make sure
Yes the files need to be in the same location as fastboot.exe and adb.exe, so in your case that is C:\android-sdk-windows\tools.
Ok cool, thanks. I kinda figured, but didn't really have anything to test it out on. Thanks again.
Or you write adb push and drag the file into your cmd window.
and pls remember: you posted in "development" this is NOT Q&A!!
Thread moved to Q&A since this is a [Q]uestion.
Thanks for moving, and my appologies. I considered my question to be development related as is was about adb, flashing custom recovery images, etc. I wasn't aware that you couldn't ask development questions in the dev section. Or at least start question threads like I did. I was gonna post in the xoom cwm recovery thread, but I figured my question was a bit broad for it. I figured development questions could go in the dev section. In any case, I got ya now. Thanks again. And thanks for answering.

Flashing Questions

For http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847
Where do I download the APX Drivers? I can't seem to find them..
Also, after flashing CWM, I can just flash roms right? I don't need to install CWM everytime I flash a rom..
APX Drivers
When you download the NVFlasher.zip. set up a new folder and place the .zip file inside of it. Then unzip the file inside that folder. There will be two folders. One of them is the NV Flasher program folder. The other folder is titled APX. The particular driver .dll file you will be looking for is in the i386 folder inside of the APX folder. So after you unzip that file, continue to follow the instuctions in that particular thread. When the computer asks you to browse for that particular folder (search automatically, or manually choose it) navigate to the NVFlasher folder, double click the APX folder and then double click on the i386 folder and choose the particular .dll file it is asking for.
You will not need to flash every time after following this particular method. This creates a permanent recovery on your phone. You can simply enter recovery and flash a new rom. However, I strongly suggest you always create a backup of your current ROM before trying something new. Just in case...
Hope this helps.
Derp. I google'd half an hour trying to found APX Drivers. It was included in the download.
Btw, what if I have a AMD computer instead of an intel?
Do I use the amd64 folder instead?
Another question. Do I need adb tools and some LG drivers before I can install cwm and root?
As far as which folder to use, I am unsure. I think that the APX driver install box will list a very specific .dll file. I know that I found that particular file in the i386 folder. That's what i would recommend. If it doesn't work, you can always restart the process and click on the other folder.
I do not think you need to install sdk and adb tools. It appears that NV Flasher is a complete package, all in one type of program.
Good luck. Keep us posted on how it goes.
It doesn't matter where you extract the drivers to because when you need to load them tell the computer where to look rather than it searching automatically. Do it manually that way it will get the right driver from the file folder you downloaded. Like other poster said if one doesnt work try the other your computer is smart enough to know which is right for it atleast.
I don't think you need any other drivers because those other drivers are for when you sync it or use the phone as a mass storage device. I would just do a back of up and load a custom rooted rom and go from there.
If your G2X is still using froyo go for the ultimate rom as your first rom till you decide to go for GB or whenever we get ICS

[Q] Some questions regarding the Recovery step on the Tutorial

hey there, have some questions regarding Step 2 Recovery from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1583427
for some reason, it won't let me post as i have less than 10 posts.
so, going straight to the questions:
1) i downloaded SDK, now, do i have to install it? i actually installed it without knowing if i should or shouldn't and have no idea what to do with it.
2) was i supposed to extract the the Official CWM of koush? downloaded this one rather than Paul's interim but i didn't know what to do with it, so i just extracted into C:\fastboot
3) when he says "Place the CWM File where the fastboot.exe is (Downloaded with the SDK)" does he mean place the extracted bits with the installed SDK program into C:\fastboot? or does he mean leave the installer as is with the zip file as is in c:\fastboot? or a different combination altogether?
4) what is the name of the recovery in "fastboot flash recovery name_of_the_recovery.img"? i looked around and they said do recovery recovery, but that didn't work for me (couldn't find file error).
5) i have s4, is it wiser to go with the interim or official?
please feel free to ask if any of these questions are a bit confusing; tried my best to ask what i'm confused about. thanks for reading, and i'll greatly appreciate any help!
