Swype not swiping? - HTC Desire S

Has anyone installed and used the new SWYPE (beta) on this device?
I have and find that it works for a bit and then just stops.....when it stops working....i can touch single letters and they'll be recognised but any actual swipes are simply ignored.
A de-install and then re-install of the SWYPE application resolves this problem, but I believe that it happens again after every reboot.
Anyonje else experienced this?
Or is it something to do with my config?
Thanks for your help

It's to do with the Quickboot feature in Sense UI. The files that are required to do the swyping don't get restored when Swype is switched on
Instead of reinstalling swype you can just change to the default HTC keyboard and then back to swype and it should start working again.
It's something do with t

Swype + x10 install problem

Hi, i regisered for the swype beta and downloaded it onto my x10 using the email link.
The problem is, when I try and install it using astro the install screen keeps reappearing without anything else happening.
I have selected allow thrid party apps in settings. I'm not sure what else to try.

on opening a link from the email, u get to dnload a swype installer of 46 kb approx.
install it using astro.( click on .apk, then open app manager, install).
now from main app menu open swype installer.
it will dnload the swype app and the rest is easy on screen instructions..
That's not working, it shuts down appsinstaller with a message saying the installer stopped unexpectedly.
I can't seem to install any apk files even tho they all show up in downloads ..
am i missing something?
Use dolphin browser to download the link again... May be sum error in download.....
I tried downloading with dolphin and still nothing, it keeps showing me the install/cancel screen over and over.
sounds silly, but have you tried powering off and on again... I've had to do that a few times when things haven;t worked properly and it usually helps.
If it doesn't work then just get the milestone version of swype.. works the same as the x10 beta version!

Go try the slideit keyboard..it looks way better than swype.

Do you have any old or different version already installed?
Or
Im assuming you have corrupted or incompatible beta version.
Try a different source. because Astro application installer is better than many other explorers. and you are error message dosent seems to related to installer or browser.
But I recommend you to use Smart Keyboard Pro. it have very high correction ability.
This should be the milestone version, simpler in terms of just installing and using.

but I would try what's mentioned above first.. who knows, he might have a point!!

Has anyone else noticed that the vibrate and audio feedback options seem to be disabled on the latest beta on the x10. They are enabled on my friends desire running the same beta version.

Ditto here too. I actually liked the vibrate feedback option. Mine is ghosted, can't select vibrate on feedback in the swype options. Was pretty sure mine was working with the latest beta then suddenly one day it just stopped. Thought maybe it was some setting I messed up. Anyone able to fix this? Thanks.
imma have to fix mine too!

Install different keyboard?

Why is it when i install a different keyboard it wont override the stupid HTC keyboard?
For example, i wantto install the droid x keyboard, but when i go to activate it in the keyboard settings, it leaves the HTC keyboard as the main keyboard. Is there something im missing?
Long press in a text box and then release and press input method to change keyboards.

HTC Trace Keyboard (Swype) Update for Desire S?

http://www.androidcentral.com/htc-sensation-include-swype-htc-trace-keyboard
Check this out! HTC's own version of Swype?!
Would be cool if the older devices get this update! Won't require dual core for it, if thats htc's pathetic excuse again!
maybe?
oh it's crazy i think 。。for me。it never minds

Only time will tell
As someone thats very recently learned to love the free (beta) swype application, I'm hoping that the htc v3.0 htc trace application gets ported to our device and soon

Hello, I've searched for swype and HTC Trace in the market, but I didn't find none of them. What is the exact name of the application to install, to have the swype active?

From memory when I installed swype you have to get it through your browser on your phone and download it from their site, though I'm sure someone will correct me if my memory is failing.

You are correct! Download the beta for Swype from here...

Thanks, but, is this something that overrides the default keyboard adding the swype function or is it a new one?
No it won't override, merely give you an alternate keyboard option. Its not obvious how to turn it on though so once installed, do the following;
In settings, go to 'languages & keyboard' and put a tick in the 'Swype' box.
Then in any text entry box, do a long press, and select 'Input Method' and choose Swype.
Nice Swype tip: It has a nice (hidden) cursor keyboard. Access it by Swyping from the bottom-left menu button, to the button to the right of it.

Some nice themed Swype keyboards here (although the cursor board is missing some keys)

Is there some keyboard that looks like the default one? (I mean the original one)
I've seen that these keyboards need to be flashed. Is there a way to come back to the stock one just in case I don't like the new one? I've seen there is some keyboard zip file here on xda, but I'm not sure of what is the stock one.
EDIT: for instance, I've found this thread. There is a so called "HTC_Keyboard_Without_Arrows"; I guess it is the stock one. Isn't it?

APK files

I've downloaded a keyboard (from abso tools to be specific), I moved the file to system/app and installed it and its still a no show.
Rebooted and still not there.
What else can I do? Thanks guys
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
You don't move files to the system/app folder and then install. Leave it on your sd card and run it from there to install. First thing I would do is go it out of there. Then see if the keyboard needs enabled in your phone's settings under Language & Keyboard. Then open up a text box to type in. For example use your text messenger. Long press in the text box, release finger, and choose Input method. Then choose your new keyboard.
Done all the above.
Downloaded again, installed from SD card. Went into setting and enabled swype, long pressed on text box, selected swype and got a force close repeatedly.

Swype is free in beta form and can be gotten from swype.com. I know nothing of the version you are installing as it can be incompatable with the Inspire. There are many versions for many phones.
I'm installing blue swype from the absolution tools.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
Did you uninstall Swype and reboot before trying to install the abso keyboard?
Uninstall swype that's already installed on the phone?
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
Yes. Uninstall, reboot, then install the Abso Swype.
Where would the swype be located? I can't find it
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
I usually uninstall with Tibu. But you can also go to settings/applications/manage applications and uninstall there.
There wasn't a swype in there.
I'm confused lol. Ill just make do with the gingerbread stock keyboard.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
Ok, if Swype wasn't there is not installed. I don't know what to do.
I read in another thread where someone was having a similar problem. They moved the apk to sys/app and it worked. Tried that and still a no go. Installed from SD card, rebooted and still not there. Idk what else I can do.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
I've tried several different keyboards with no luck. I got then to install, but i would keep getting an update notice
If you are getting update notices for swype then all those versions are out of date. The version I am running is 3.26.92D.36178.t0. If the number is lower then it is outdated.
Did you try the swype beta from swype.com?
Let me get this straight. In order for me to use the blue swype keyboard from absolution tools, I first have to DL the beta from swype.com?
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
I didn't understand that you had to have this BLUE Keyboard. I thought you just needed swype. Since that version wasn't working I was giving you a way to get swype.
Give me the link to this blue keyboard and I will have a look at it.
Edit: I see that Absolute Tools is included in the Absolute ROM. So why would you not be asking this question over there in the ROM thread? You seem to be holding a conversation of non informational chit chit over there so why not ask this there where they can help you?
Because this isn't just about the keyboard. I've had other problems with apk files also, just used the keyboard as an example hoping the resolution would help with other issues.
Also, I've found out that none of the keyboards work anyways.
Thanks for your help though.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
schunter, post your question in the Abso Q&A. I don't personally use swype but I had no problems getting it to install. However, I did get the update notice and it does not function as expected(swyping to type), I had to type normally for it to work.
I'll get w/the team leader to try and resolve this.

[Q] ZTE V970 Greek

Hi, i'm new here and i want to buy the Zte V970. Is there a Rom that has the greek language in? I don't want to buy it rooted because the custom rom (in greek) from the store i'll buy sucks...
No one?
That would be in language and input in settings go to the keyboard setting and change it to Greek. I don't know if there is a complete Rom that's in Greek. Hopefully you can find one its a shame that Android doesn't have this already implemented

To do that, i have to add the rom the store offers, but it's kind off messed up ( half the menu is translated in greek). I don't mind having the menu in english, aslong as i can add a greek keyboard for SMS.
You should be able to do that natively i have that option i uploaded some screenies if you are able to play with the phone before you buy it check it out its probably not exactly the same as my phone but it should be a similar way to access it
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Also there is apps like go sms pro that allows you to download a Greek keyboard for sms . there is alot of Greek keyboards on the Android market that are probably free.

Everything sorted out...the new rom has greek language installed!
I have a problem though with the new rom v3.0. After installing it, the screen tuns on at different times of the day without me touching the phone. It is like the power buttons gets pressed for a sec. Just now it did it 6 times with 5-7 secs between them. Does anyone else has that issue?
I also unistalled all the apps i used, just in case, but the issue remaines. If i wipe and install the rom again will that help?
You can always try but honestly it might just be a hardware error but you never know until you try

I hope you are wrong, because yesterday i wiped and installed again the new rom. With no apps installed so far so good fingers crossed...
well hopefully I'm wrong but those problems are either your phone can't process the hardware button presses fast enough (eg you press lock button 5 times and it starts to spaz out, or a button is stuck or being constantly pressed on somehow

Its a custom rom, so maybe the rom itself blocked the I out settings? Look into downloading an android Greek keyboard, or whatever language you need for your phone
