[Q] Unable to access music or photo files from apps - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I currently missing photo and music, not really missing them, If I open ES File Explorer and open .sdcard/DCIM/Camera all my photo are there. They just don't show up in Gallery. I can open them from ES File Explorer fine. Same with Music, I can open /sdcard/Music and all my music is there but when I open the Music App, it reports"You don't have any music in your library." I can open any song from the file explorer.
Also I can no longer see any files in storage when I connect my Xoom via USB to my Win7 pc, the internal storage shows up but is empty.
It's as if the ownership of the files changed.

TCpMP sees a large movie as folder

I try to open a large movie (over 2GB) on my HD2. The problem is that when I open TCPMP and try to select the file the 'navigator' sees a folder not a movie.
e.g. The movie is called Movie.avi but the program shows a folder named Movie.avi. I can click on it and it appears to be an empty folder.
If I use File Explorer I can see it as a normal file but it won't open because it launches WMPlayer instead if TCPMP.
All other movie files tried so far work perfect but they are all under 1GB. Does anybody knows a fix for this bug?
Thanks
I found a workaround: Options -> Settings... -> File Associations. Selected AVI and now I can open it directly from File Explorer.

How can I select folder in media player?

I have tried the built in media player, doubletwist and also 'MixZing' I can't seem to figure out how to navigate to a particular folder to play an .mp3. What am I missing here?
I do not know how to do this from the player but here is what work:
Open File Manager (My Files)
Navigate to the folder
Double click the first mp3 file in the folder
File manager will offer a list of music players to play the file. The player will then proceed to play the files from the folder
In general, it seems like the use of tags in MP3 files is the way to go though.
Great tip! I never thought to use "My Files" since I normally use ES File manager, but that works great! Thank you.
So I am not doing anything wrong, these options are just not part of these players?
Im not sure I understand the question. Whatever files i have on my sd card show up in Video player/ Music Player, or whatever files the player is capable of playing, no matter where they are on the sd card.
The built in player doesn't have a file explorer
The built in player doesn't have a file explorer, but it should have all your compatible files indexed. It has an ok search function that you can use to find what you are looking for after you enter the app. click on the search touch button on the bottom right of your phone.

[Q] Opening Files on LAN

So far I am unable to open some files on my LAN (using ES File Explorer):
Images come up blank.
PDFs say "Sorry, no application available". I have Adobe Reader installed.
MP3s do play back from LAN.
If I copy the files that do not open from LAN to local storage (sdcard) I can open them without a problem.
Is there anything I can do to change this?
Than you.

copy files from network share in alphabetical order?

I use my phone as an mp3 player, and I have the music folder and download folder on our desktop pc shared on the home network.
when I want to put music on the phone, I use es file explorer to copy music from the shared folder to the sd card. sometimes files don't copy in alpha-numeric order, I think it happens when there's a wider variation in file sizes in the folder. the sd card is formatted in FAT (exfat, I think), which indexes files in order of creation.
if the files have been copied and indexed out of order, music player apps will then play them in that order, regardless of what the track numbers in the metadata says. this is an old problem that's been plaguing digital music fans for years.
it's relatively easy to fix, by just cutting and pasting the files into another folder on the sd card, where they are re-indexed into alpha-numeric order.
is there a way to stop it happening to start with, either at the phone end or on the pc (linux mint 17)? I'd assume that formatting the sd card in a different file system would just cause me problems, can I force es file explorer to copy the files in order? or is there a different file manager that will? or would sharing the files via ftp instead of smb sort it out?

File Manager issue "seeing" files, but not "Categorizing" them

IT FIXED ITSELF. Don't ask me how but I just booted the 700, open FM (file manger) and low and behold all the files on the microSD are showing in the category section ! ! !
TF700 on 7.1.2_27, using Asus File Manager v2.0.0.397_180123.
Ok here's what it's doing, I can use the file manger fine to browse the microSD card, but none of the file are showing in the "Category" section and the are in the correct folder (ie. music, pictures, ect.). I have scanned the microSD card for .nomedia and none were found. Also when I copied some songs to the music folder on the internal storage they show up in the category bubble for Music. Also because file manager doesn't categorized the media file on the microSD card correctly, Gallery and my music player do not show the files, but they will open and play music is I select individual files using the file manager.
Another thing, everything was working fine, it wasn't until after I copied a few songs from my cloud to the microSD via PC, reinserted the microSD in the TF700 that this problem started.
