I didn't know whether to put this in the "Android Software Development" forum or this one but does anyone know of an app that can preform reverse tether (with the help of tweaking the computers network) via USB and at the same time tether via WiFi.
ie: The phone will use the computer's internet via USB and then allow other devices to connect to the phone via WiFi and use the original computers internet. Basically turning the phone into a mini-router.
I don't know if this would even be possible. Seems like there would be a lot of data clutter. But I have seen apps out there that can preform reverse tether via WiFi on an ad hoc network.
I assume that if I can get at least the USB reverse tethering to work. I'd be able to use Froyo's built in WiFi tethering also assuming it uses the computers network and not default to 3G.
And the reason for even needing this app?
Is because 20Mbs > 3Mbs.

A Wireless G Router can be had for less than $20.00 - You can probably find a friend with an old one to give to you.

Why use the phone for this?
I don't know how to get it to work but on Android in a vm it says on the Android that the internet is being tethered to it through Ethernet I don't know If its an app ill take a screen shot later

I need some help, as I'm kinda clueless with networking. I have an Ubuntu desktop connected to the same monitor my 360 is. I can connect to xbl a few different ways.
1. With the d-link wireless gaming adapter, set to adhoc mode, connected to my wifi tether.
2. USB/wifi tethering the desktop to my phone and sharing the internet connection with the Ethernet port where my Xbox is plugged in.
I've used, wifi tether for root users, barnacle (which supposedly allows port forwarding), built in USB and wifi tether (I'm on cm7 nightly with an HTC glacier)
I've managed to connect, but NAT is set to strict on all. Does anybody know how to change this? I don't know if there's a way to change this within the build.prop, or some other file?
Any help or advice would be much appreciated. I just have no other internet connection.

The lack of response really blows. I have the same exact issue and I cant fathom there not being a way around it . I'll keep looking and please let me know if you stumble upon something that works
The "nat type strict" we see on xbox live, from reading around allot deals with the bandwidth(speed) of your internet. If you use fast wifi, your nat type will be ok, but if someone goes on your wifi an use the internet, it's slower. The internet speeds we get from the cell towers is no where fast enough to change it.
If I helped, give thanks, if you please.

New to rooting and flashing roms but seem to be doing ok.. Cant get wireless tether to work on cm7 any suggestions?
CM7 has wireless tether built in.
It's in Settings > Wireless & Networks > Tethering & Portable Hotspot
No need for an app
thanks i found that.. it wasnt working until now thought maybe i needed an app fixed permissions and rebooted and seems to work now.. thanks again.. Whats the best business focused ROM for the EVO 4g in your opinion?
thank you so much..that really helps me
hey im wondering what the best settings for barnacle wifi tether on ps3 i prefer barncacle over google wirless tether because it keeps my nat type open. however every once in awhile ill randomly get signed out of psn ive already tried alternate dns settings but dosnt really help. my setup is a cdma hero, aosp 2.3.4 windows 7 home premium and i have an ethernet cable going from my computer to my ps3 for the bridge.
and for ppl wondering i rarely lag my only issue is getting signed out of psn randomly during online play. my barnacle settings are enable adhoc beconing every 5 seconds and custom adhoc mode set to htc hero.
I've been attempting this through both ibluever and ithether with pdanet on my evo set to bluetooth.
When I attempt it via ibluever I get something about no dialup connection. I'd rather use the wireless tether app due to awful speeds of pda net anways.
When I attempt it with itether (which is made for the iphone to tether to the iPad2, but I read on a forum that someone with a motodroid got it to work) I get an error about no internet tethering available.
Before anyone says "use wireless tether set to wifi" I'm trying to use the bluetooth instead do to significant battery saving that is reported. Thanks in advance.
