Testing out 1800mAh Battery - Epic 4G Accessories

I am testing out a 1800mAh battery for my Epic 4G and will report the results.
I just got this in from a friend overseas and I am fully charging it now.
The battery does NOT require a separate cover, so this is nice. I'll let you know how the battery performs as soon as I can.
Right now I am using the Syndicate ROM along with Vision Kernel v1.1
I usually have my phone clocked at Ondemand with SetCpu with a max of 1300 and min of 200.
I also have profiles set for when the screen is off at 200min and 400 max. My brightness is down about 1/4. I have K9 mail poll every 30min and Plume twitter client poll every hour. Missed reminder usually runs along with MSNBCs air mail to pull any breaking news, and I am running Zeam Launcher.
On a full charge with the stock battery I can get between 19 and 30hrs depending on what I do. The 30hrs I can usually achieve with not much activity and the phone will usually be around 14% at the 30hrs. I do leave my phones data on all the time, so that is without turning the power off at night.
Anyway, that's just a little info on my configuration.
Will report new 1800mAh battery in the next day or so, or as I go along throughout the day.

When you are done testing the battery can you provide a picture of it or maybe take a picture of the battery in the phone. Thanks.

So here are my pictures from my battery usage for the 1800mAh battery. Again, the phone is running the apps listed in the OP and The usage will consist of checking tweets, texting and a few market update checks.
If you are looking for a battery like this one, I can probably get them for you at around $15 a battery. This all depends on how many people want them. While you're not going to get 50 or 80hrs out of it, I can say that i've gotten a few more hours out of it than the stock 1500mAh. In fact I have never hit a 40hrs PERIOD until I put this battery in. Now you may get more or less than I did depending on your usage, how often you text, internet usage, or running programs that check for emails, tweets, etc.
The 40hrs too are with the phone on ALL OF THE TIME. By this I mean I don't turn it off at night when I go to bed.
Let me know if you have any questions.

I'll post a pic later today. When I pulled the battery to take a pic I had to factory reset the whole phone (cause when I put the standard one back in I got FC all over). So it'll be tonight until I can get my camera to try and take a pic.
I guarantee you though that it is a 1800mAh battery.

FC close from swapping batteries? Ouch! I hope that was just a glitch, as I never plug in the power cord to charge anymore - I mean hardly ever - as I only replace my batteries approximately once a day and rotate between 4 OEM Samsung batteries.
It doesn't seem to have a charging system like my old PalmOS Treo
But I would be interested in one if swapping between the stock battery and the 1800mah one didn't play havoc on the phone and FC or screw up the battery metering system.
Thanks for your info - please keep us informed!

Which 1800mah battery is it? Do you have a link? I'd love to try them out if you're getting positive results.

Mabey it this one?

Yeah I checked out ebay, but there are a couple there.. and those Chinese batteries are notorious for being fake. If he said he's seeing better battery life I want the EXACT battery he got.

I actually did get one of those Chinese batteries. Didn't get it off of ebay though.I was skeptical at first but I thought.... Not like i'm paying $35 or anything, so it's worth a shot. But yes, like the pic.
Fits perfect, and have been using it for a few days.
@mouseglider... I was going to take a pic of the battery as requested, and that's when I realized that the digital camera wasn't working well for that, so I was like... I'll just pop the OEM back in and snap it. I didn't shut down properly and yeah, FCs. My fault probably.
I did have a backup from clockwork so it was all good. It did take a bit to restore because I didn't have a backup since the 17th, but all is well now and back to normal.
The only odd thing I noticed with the battery is that when I put the battery in, booted for the first time I had no data and it was on airplane mode. Found that odd, but I just turned airplane mode off rebooted and then it was all fine.
So far I have noticed nothing else besides that glitch and the FC glitch, but again I just yanked it then went... CRAP, i'm prob going to get FCs.
For the most part I seem to get 2-3hrs more on this battery. The test I did with the 40hrs was a basic light usage test. Not much internet usage or phone calls.
I will be testing it though with a longer twitter update, longer email poll, and no MSNBC background update nor Pulse news reader every 12hrs.
We'll see how that works. I just changed the email push to 1hr instead of 30min and Plume twitter update from 1hr to 2hr and disabled airmail for MSNBC.
Osama Bin Laden is dead and that was the most important notification.

Hey can you post a way for us to get it. Need to replace mine thanks.

Wow that took some cahones for the one who tried the chinese batteries lol.
Wasnt there a huge thing about chinese knock off batteries exploding!
but 40 hours is pretty good for and for 15$

I know right? Took some cahones. Anyway the battery seems to be ok. I haven't had it get real hot, get all weird on me or anything. Not only that, the Samsung battery says assembled in Korea, so I assume everything is going to be overseas.
As far as the link goes, I don't have one because I got it from a friend from china who does business over there with that type of stuff. I told him I was looking for a battery and he pointed me to this and I got it sent to me.
I can order a bunch from him, but i'd need to know how many because it does take about a week and a half to get them sent. This way I can have him get 5, 10, or whatever and I don't have to keep getting 1 here, 2 here, etc. Unfortunately shipping from China is not quick.
I there is a high enough interest i'll get them & anyone that wants one can let me know and you can pay by paypal once I get enough people wanting one to make it worth the shipping. Once I receive them I can get them to you for $17 which includes shipping as long as you are in the US.

I have bought 4 of those China batteries - 2 for my Moment and 2 for my Epic and had one of each lasted only 2 hours so I tossed them and the other one of each lasted for about 4 hours each - I actually did not buy them for the batteries, but bought them so I could get the chargers that they came with - so for me it was really no loss as they were really cheap - $6'ish dollars for one battery and charger - love the chargers!
I just use the standard stock Samsung batteries and simply rotate them - it works best for me and stays at 100% in the phone for at least 30 to 45min depending on light use - unlike when I charge them in the phone, and when I unplug them they always drop immediately to 96% to 98% even when I try to bump charge which is a pain in the butt and never works.
External AC chargers are the BEST!

Hmm,
I run less data update programs than the OP with a stock battery, Syndicate ROM, WIFI, Bluetooth, setCPU at OnDemand 1300/100, and Fancy Widget Pro (updates once/hour) all running 24/7.
I typically get anywhere from 24-48 hours of battery life. 48 hours has been achieved with mild web browsing, one 15 minute Google Nav trip, some emulator gaming, and various android games. I'd liken it to a medium total usage.
I had about 2% battery remaining by that 48 hour point.
If I turn off bluetooth and Fancy Widget Pro, but leave WIFI on, I can expect to have 70%+ battery left after 18 hours of use.
I'm not sure why it lasts this long, but I love it.

Thanks for trying out those chinese batteries.

However, this thread, says that all chinese batteries are inferior to the OEM samsung battery. But its a good backup battery for cheap, neverthless.

How many accounts do you have syncing? Brightness level? I copy many setups people have on these forums and the most i have seen in battery life is 18hrs using seidio 3000 mah battery. Stock most seen when it was new, about 12 hrs. What Apps can i use to monitor application usage?

As far as the previous poster, it seems as if they get a good deal of juice. I think it'll vary, but nothing should be THAT drastic I don't believe.
Yours seems to be drastic, or at least from even what i've seen from my set up. Right now I checked the phone, (it was on all night last night) and I have 71% left and unplugged at 12hrs...pushing 13. Now that is with the 1800mAh battery.
Again, ones internet surfing, phone calls and all of that makes a difference. I can say that with a few phone calls it'll drop and with surfing the net. But if you are running a 3000mAh battery and only getting 18hrs, you must have that thing running lots. I could see that usage with Facebook on, weather updates every hour, email every 15min, twitter updates all the time, etc etc.
What type of setup are you running?

Two gmail.com stock settings, facebook only contacts I have. No twitter.
Fancy widgets weather.
Brightness level down to bottom.
Calendar contacts mail on one gmail.com and only mail on the other.
How would you change how often gmail checks mail? I see no settings for it.
Still 30hrs even more 40 is exaggerated.

I couldn't care less. I get 24+ hours on my battery now, with chargers in everyplace I frequent throughout the day and a spare charger in my laptop bag for those emergency moments.
I seriously doubt you really use your phone very much. The only time I got 24 hours out of my battery was when it sat unused an entire day.
For the rest of us that actually want to use a smartphone that isn't crippled, this extended life battery is a huge deal. So yes, OP, I check their website every week to see if I somehow missed the announcement. I can't wait!

x2, atleast i'm not the only one that knows how to manage their cell phone battery life.
Right now i'm sitting at 80% with 3h 52m on, time without signal at 1%, screen on time of 16 minutes voice calls of 7 minutes, and I've been listening to music on my phone from the SDcard for about 20 minutes.
If you actually take the time to set up your phone correctly, you can save a ton of battery life. I use tasker to accomplish a majority of these tasks. For instance, when angry birds is being played i have the phone automatically adjust the brightness to a slightly higher level and i have it turn off the data connections and wifi. Then when i exit it returns the phone to the state it was in before angry birds. I have a ton of these profiles set up.
how many people will take the time for that?
also are you running a custom kernel?

Phoenix 1.43 right now. And it takes a few minutes to set pretty much everything up. I just set them up as I need them.
Battery life isn't the worst, but for me its inconsistant. One day I will make trough a day, next day ill get half.
I know it will get better with froyo and updated kernals and roms.
The touch pro 2 had great battery, I always had gps on and palringo going and didn't have to worry about battery.
The other day I was in vegas taking pics with some random person, I was able to take one, while trying to take another

I had the same issue. I found that it was something causing the battery not to go to sleep. For me, the music player (Fascinate one from EE rom) would start CorePlayerServices which would run and not allow the phone to sleep. As long as that service is running, my phone wasn't sleeping correctly. There are other things that cause this not sleeping problem as well, but that is the only one I have identified personally.

You are misunderstanding the reasons why I want this battery. Yes I could set up my phone to last for a whole day no problem, but that would severely limit the amount of time that I spend on it and the purpose for which I use it so often. I am constantly testing and flashing new zips over and over and over, which will drain the battery tremendously as it is. Testing a 32 x 32 icon on a 480x800 screen is straining on the eyes when the brightness is turned all the way down, so that must be up to see the fine details of images that I have edited.
I understand that it is completely possible to make my phone last much longer than it currently is, but taking the steps necessary to do so would thus render it useless for the tasks that I am trying to accomplish. I live off of my phone because I can and choose to do so, it is my hobby to develop custom themes/ROMs for the Epic and I don't plan on stopping just to have my battery life last 2x longer.
When this comes out it will mean the difference between being able to do whatever I want on my phone for 8-10 hours under very heavy use and only being able to make it last for less than 6 hours. IMO this is significantly to my advantage.
what is med usage to you?

Tips to GREAT Battery Life!

Here are the settings I'm running on CM7 to get amazingly bananas battery life (with the display being on for about 5 hours!)..
1. Conservative governor: 245mhz - 1017mhz in CM7 settings
2. Install the 'BatteryCalibration' app from the market. This app caused the single biggest improvement for me after having flashed so many roms and never calibrating the battery. If you've calibrated it before though, I don't think it'll be very useful for you.
3. Install 'NoBars' from the market to automatically turn on airplane mode when you have no service. (This might be useless to some of you if you always have a signal; Very useful in NYC subway though)
4. Use a 2G toggle widget to have the phone only use the Edge connection when you only need it to receive calls/ texts and don't need the high speeds. I use the toggle widget in the CM7 notification bar. HUGE battery saver.
Give these a shot and let us know how they work for you
I've reached the end of my day and here are my final stats..
Mmy display has been on on over 5 hours now and I have 5% of the battery left. Seems more than good enough for me. Hopefully it will be for some of you too

Question: It's cool that your display was on for 3 hours, but what did you do as far as app usage??
If you did use your phone "a heck of a lot" wouldn't some apps like "internet" "maps" or something show up on the battery use %'s???
For example, currently, other than phone idle, cell standby, voice calls and android, there's also internet, mail, maps, and other apps that I used today alot.
Good observation. I have no idea how android chooses which apps to show on there, but I think it depends on the ROM? I remember on Iced Glacier cell standby would barely use 5% of the battery and on CM7 it uses >40% consistently. Idk.
Maybe what those apps used up here was nothing compared to the display, wifi and phone idle time.. Just a guess.. But I did use the browser and xda app and listened to music via the Rdio app running in the background several times throughout the day, and sent multiple texts and have had my wifi on for about 5 hours now. I can't really find a menu that would show these statistics except in the Spare Parts app, and here you go..
I got 17 hours just yesterday with 9% left with moderate to heavy use (texting, web browsing and ps1 emulation).
I didn't do anything besides use faux's kernel with the smartass govenor. I have the max speed overclocked to 1.8 as well...
Nice. I just got over flashing new kernels for a while since the stock CM7 one has everything functioning perfectly and new kernels would improve on something but mess up something else in my experience.
I can't seem to find a 2g toggle widget that works with Royal Glacier. (one touch, I've found a few that take you to settings) When I was running Royal Ginger I would always use the one that came in the notification bar.
Wifi status is also a good app to remind the forgetful to turn off wifi when they leave the Area.

since my last boot. 8:10AM when i loaded the new CM7. 1h 1m 59s.
Unless I'm missing something, the 'BatteryCalibration' app won't increase your battery life. It will just help to get a more accurate reading of your battery level.
I've played around with different roms and kernels. And yes, they do have a small effect on battery life, but not all that much.
Here's my tip for battery life. Get on ebay and buy one the of the cheap packages from Hong Kong with 3 batteries and a standalone charger. Like this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/3x-New-1500mAh-Battery-Charger-HTC-Mytouch-4G-Merge-/290556738794?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item43a687fcea
I bought a similar package a few months ago and now I never have battery problems. Nor do I have to take a chance on wearing out my micro-usb jack like I've seen happen on a lot of other phones.
Maybe. All I know is my battery increased dramatically after running that app once.
I measure battery life by how many hours I am able to keep my display on before it dies rather than how long after it comes off the charger (like nedilinger does). My battery used to die after about 3 hours of the display being on. Now it consistently lasts 5 hours.
Anyway, I was just trying to let others know what I did to get a really good battery life on my phone thinking it might be helpful. Apparently that's not appreciated. Thanks tho.

simple way to get awesome battery life without any extra steps is to install RoyalGlacier 1.6, that's all. A couple days ago I ran my phone for one and a half days before charging it again, and it still had 14% battery left. RG is pretty much a polished version of CM7, runs blazing fast and smooth.

Better than what's reported under CM7. The battery life I posted above was on RG.
you say you don't sacrifice 4g but you admit you have a 2g/edge widget?
To me "not sacrificing 4g" means not ever turning it off, maybe i'm mistaken
I had battery issues, I'd have to charge it mid day else it would die. Juicedefender helped a bit (claimed to do 1.7x battery life) but I uninstalled it, rooted the phone, and uninstalled a bunch of stock apps
For some reason now my battery lasts a very very long time, don't know how or why that is. I also admit I don't use it as heavily as some people, but my habits have not changed and I did have to charge it mid day (like i said) even with little usage

Obviously, it's hard to say without describing how I use my phone, but I get probably 10-15 hours of medium-high usage. I probably get about 4-5 hours of talk time. I'd say the Chinese ebay batteries probably last 80-90% as long as the OEM battery. Quite decent considering the price.
My earlier thoughts about the BatteryCalibration app could be wrong. I don't really know all the details about how Android battery calibration works. I just assumed that it simply learns about all the bad spots in your battery so that your phone doesn't instantly jump from 80% to 30%. I also assumed that the phone would die when the battery had no power left, as opposed to when it says 0%, but maybe that's not the case. Regardless, if it helps you, more power to you and I appreciate you sharing the app. I didn't mean to come off as an unappreciative ****. If I did, sorry bout that.

Love my G2x, But the battery is worst ever.

Have had my rooted stock rom g2x since day 1.
Love phone. I am comming from H2 customed. I thought it had worst battery I have ever had.
That was till the g2x. I hate running a task killer. But am about to do just that to see if I can get anymore battery,.
Its to the point where I fully charge phone and yesterday with only 12 minutes of talk. Maybe 20 minutes of Web use and some emails. Battery was yellow.
This is a joke right? My only thought is that by having my Gmail auto refresh every 10 minutes possibly that could be some cause. But I if not in my car to keep on charger phone last barely a day.
Sounds like you have a bad battery, I get great battery life with the phone
G2X & Nexus S
I get 13hrs on this battety with wifi on all day.

Did u calibrate?

do u really think that is the standard performance of the G2x battery or is it more likely you got a bad unit ? Come on now people, stop posting this crap and just exchange your phone when you only get an hour of battery life. Why start a freaking thread ? You could have used that time to go exchange your phone.

Totally true.
For those of you with problems, your phone is still new, it will be replaced either under buyer's remorse (15-20 days) or directly through tmobile after that period.
Just get a new phone and be done with it.
My first hot potato of a phone would get good battery life, until it cooked itself alive. My second phone was on for over 27 hours and was still at 50%. I'm still surprised.
First off guys. I am not a newbie to XDA or phones. No its not a bad battery.
Remember I am the Costco Manager so I can exchange phone as much as I want for 90 days.
This is my third as I wanted a perfect screen.
I have had this problem with all 3. So the battery is fine.
I use batt apk and I show about 5%loss per half hour after taking off charge
There is no way this is normal. Now I do have lots of apps. But I have froze some in Titanium. However I can blow out this charge in an hour with web use.]
No I did not calibrate. Did not read that till after. However I did charge initially correct.
My HD2 would gobble batterys. But this phone while I love it. Is not a great everyday use phone if not able to be on a charger during day.

Huh.. some people are getting awesome battery time. When it first came out, people were having success with doing factory reset on their phone. Idk.. I personally didn't buy it.. but they swore it worked. Give it a try.

So what you're saying then, is those of us with good battery life are the ones with the bad batteries? You really didn't think this through, did you?
I find my battery life was OK on the stock ROM. Nothing I'd get excited about, but I'd gotten used to insanely poor battery life running CM7 on my vibrant. Since I flashed the GB leak (no wipe, fixed permissions, erased battery stats) I'm seeing 18+ hrs with moderate usage.
gingerbread in general gets good battery life, cm7 for galaxy has problems due to samsung not following the google standards, those guys are basically shooting in the dark with that project, yet they have made huge improvments. recently people report decent to improved battery life on the latest builds.
to the op, what are your sync options? i find facebook sync and facebook contact sync are big culprits. also i only use google contact sync to get my contact list initially then turn it off. also if you have your gmail on the stock email app and the gmail app it can increase useage, if you prefer the email app id turn off google sync all together, if you like the gmail app id turn off fetch on the email app.
another culprit is weather apps using the location service, for me beautiful widgets is a battery hog on a vibrant rom but not on a captivate rom so results can vary from phone to phone.
and last of all i dont agree with calibration proceedures, i get some funky results with them, i just delete batstats and then charge to full. i find it takes 3 day minimum to get a good calibration, 5 days is sometimes needed.
I get very good battery life with mine and have been since day one. It lasts almost twice as long as my Vibrant and N1 did.

I use juice defender to turn on/off my data for me when its not being used and the screen is off. It seems to work less than on vibrant.
I'm running stock rom and my battery life varies TREMENDOUSLY from when I'm at work and seldomly using it to when I'm home surfing the web on it ( tablets too far from couch I'm surprised I got the cookies )

I was getting really bad battery life when I first got the phone (about 7hrs ) I ended up finding out that the touch led notification app was the culprit so I deleted it and also calibrated my battery and now my phone last all day easily and that with me playing guerrilla bob and the samurai game at work for like 2 hours lol
I recommend you download the where's my Droid power app from the market and see what's killing your battery
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
Also keep in mind that it could be a certain app draining your battery. I downloaded the NFL apparently for draft day and even after exiting the app it took my battery down 15% in a matter of 10 minutes. Not to mention it had my battery's and CPU running super hot. On average I get about 12 hours out of a full charge with moderate to heavy usage.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
My last charge i got 36 hours of light use so I dont know what everyone's problem is lol

No wonder your a newbie and no listed thanks. What an asswade comment.
NO!!!!!!!!! What I am saying is that is has to be an internal issue with either synch times or possibly an APP be it internal or external that is causing MANY of us to have terrible battery times vs. others with good. Not saying anthing negative about those who are functioning ok.
I have been rooting and modding for 2 years. This is the worst battery usage yet. My Galaxy S 4g. Could last with same synch times and apps for 18 hours.
Now for those others who have there head inserted other then in there behind.
Okay ran some tests today,
1. Charged phone to 100percent.
2. Left everything the way it has been and no adjustments.
Battery at 84 Percent sitting tableside no text, app, wed or voice use after 2 hours. After 4 hours at 64 percent. After 6 hours at 51 percent. After 8 hours at 39 percent. This is with no usage. This is terrible.
Okay, Now have done following based on others test here and other forums.
1. Loaded Setcpu and made profile for sleep using stock 216 usage.
2. reluctently loaded Taskmanager Pro and killed all but needed apps.
3. Loaded Battery calibration app and after charge calibrated phone.
Left my email synch at every 10 minute as its needed for work.
We will see if this brings better test times now and report back.
What may be my culprit from studying this and other forums is I am in Seattle. We are Tmobiles home office corp and full test market for 4g and every change before rest of USA. I get full 4g at all times. In fact my speed tests are off the board. ave of 12 down 1.3 up speeds.
From what I am finding out, those of us in best 4g coverage (and Seattle is listed best) are finding much more drain on battery in standby and in use.
So my theory is that with this phone and its dual proccesor and my 4g, this is why myself and others in like markets are seeing much faster drain then others. Some dispute this possibility. however other experts say its fact.
Will report back findings tomorrow.
Thanks.

May be some of my issue vs. others.
I do have sync on for FB and Google mail 2 accounts. and I use Fancy Widgets for my Weather and news feeds. However I also used these on my HD2 a known battery hog running cm7 and it had even better life then the phone. I run them on my other Galaxy s 4g as well and it has awesome battery life.
But I will freeze these in my next test after running this test.

those are shocking results man... I dont know what to tell you... If I literally dont touch my phone for 6 hours i will drain no more than 10% of my battery, closer to around 6 or 7% based on my battery monitor widget...
I pulled the phone off at 6 this morning and didnt touch it until 12 and I was at 92%... Chelsea got ****ing spanked this morning and I got a barrage of **** talk text messages that I did not want to deal with haha so my phone wen untouched for a good 6 hours...
I will say though, when I first got the phone my battery life was pretty wonky... first drain was great, second one was mediocre, the third and fourth ones were horrible, drained in 6 hours flat of light-moderate use... I did a factory reset at this point to try and change things up... Calibrated once after that and I have run it up and down to get a good read and I have not looked back since, like i said i can get 20-30 hours of moderate to light use no problem at all!
Great battery on my g2x
I had battery problems with my G2x, only lasted about 7-8 hours on moderate use and cell stabd by was like 50% of battery use.
After i installed the leaked official Gingerbread ROM is like a new phone, ofter 16 hours of use i still had 43% last night. In idle mode it uses about 1% in 2 hours.
I think the battery probles come from Froyo not getting along with the dual core processor.
This phone is awesome!

Iceshark, you're not crazy. This is the same exact battery drain I get not even touching the damn phone! This is my second phone in less than 2 weeks, the first had the same results, both brand new.
Today I unplugged my phone at 12:45 pm, gave my mom a call for mothers day (less than 2 min talk time) Got to work and browsed web for maybe 5 minutes then clocked in at 2 pm. Took a 15 min break at 4pm battery was down to 80% (did some web browsing for 5 min). Took my 30 min lunch at 6pm (battery was down to about 60% (did some browsing for about 15 min). Took my last break at 8pm, and battery was down to 30%. I clocked out at 10:30 and I only had 20% battery left. The only timeI touched the phone was on my breaks, the rest of the time my phone was in my pocket. I had juicedefender running on balanced.
It's now 12:01am and I only have 14% battery left, that's not even 12 hours yet, and I only used the phone and it's features for less than an hour, all the other drain was sitting in my pocket. This is unacceptable. And I'm starting to think all the other people who claim to have great battery life are exaggerating or lying through their teeth.
Although I did a test yesterday using auto airplane mode, which automatically enables airplane mode when the screen shuts off, disabling any data, and then it turns data back on when you unlock the screen this helped very much with battery draining and at the end of an 8 hour work shift I still had 70% battery, but without data you can't receive calls, which sucks.
This battery drainage or bleed while the handset is not even being used needs to be fixed. And isn't it false advertising since the G2x specs indicate standby time is 400 hours?

The Battery Life ROCKS

So, I flashed Black Dragon 4.0 last night, and I gotta say, the battery life is pretty incredible. I've used it a good bit this morning for texting, a call, and a music app, and I've barely gone 15%. The idle life is what's truly impressive. I think it dropped only 1% overnight (8 hrs).
Even WITH sense, it's still pretty good. But it's nice to have all those useless HTC and T-Mobile services/apps gone. It definitely makes a bit of difference on performance and batt life.
Is there anything broken on that ROM or is everything up and running? GPS, Camera, gallery, etc etc.
i'm on the stock batter, it's 3 here, i've used it regularly, texts, calls, internet, maps, and i'm at 76%. it's so nice having a battery that lasts
One of the advantages of having a non-user-replaceable battery is the fact that they can make them bigger and in different shapes. Apple's laptops are this way, and when they made the switch, the increase in batt life was pretty drastic.
It'll be interesting to see this thing taken apart on iFixIt or somewhere else.
Is there a way to know if the battery is done charging with the phone off? The orange LED just seems to stay on forever...
I would suggest it hasn't fully charged or there is a fault - I charge mine overnight and it's always green in the morning
Mitigation - I never switch it off: screen off, phone on.

Literally 5 minutes after I posted that, it went green. First time it's had a proper full charge, when I tried to charge it while on the battery meter just fluctuated up and down all over the place! Gonna let it run down and charge it again before I get worried that there's something wrong.
I got mine from T-Mo yesterday on my way to school and i must say the battery life on this phone is crazy good. After my second charge cycle, i really think this phone was design for raw power and most of all great battery life. I'm also enjoying the beauty this piece of equipment. . Right now i have the screen on auto-brightness, gmail, yahooo, hotmail, facebook, dropbox and weather on auto sync. I'll say no more results in the pictures below.

I'd tend to agree with this. I'm sure you meant well with the pictures, but my Nexus S beats this and the battery in it is old. I don't think that was a great metric right there. My real world use has been drastically different.
I was going to post a pic, but my ROM crashed or something (no biggie, it's expected with new ROMs) and my battery usage got reset. I took it off the charger ~10 hrs ago and have used it for quite a bit of twitter, text, calls, web, and fiddling around, and I'm just down to 73%. The stand-by life is what will truly impress you, at least from what I've seen.
The screenshots seem very impressive to me. I have an HTC Amaze with the 1900 mah Anker battery and I'll get around 2 hours of on screen time. And the One S is getting almost four!? If anyone is getting better then that I would love to see screenies of it. Only screen on time though as I could get very high numbers as well by not using my phone. Can't wait till my One S gets here!
Love this phone...S4 ftw
Yesterday I got.
12 hours and 50 min with 2 hours and 40 minutes screen time and I still had 41% left.
Off topic: didn't want to make a new thread, and I've searched but nothing found.
I'm really considering this phone but when the battery reaches the end of its life how much will a replacement battery be likely to cost fitted?
I know I'll probably have a new phone by this time but I keep all my electronic devices well looked after and don't sell them so just curious as it seems like a pretty deep task.

Horrible battery life. Typical or bad phone?

First off, yes I realize that complaints about the Skyrocket battery are very common, and coming from a Nexus One I'm no stranger to the nightly charging, but I feel like my phone may have a real issue with proper battery management. For example, I'm looking at my phone now. It's been on for 4hrs 43 mins and is down to 73%. Screen is 61% usage and then the typical other stuff below it. For the record the screen has been on for MAYBE 20 minutes total for answering texts and checking Facebook/twitter updates. I should also note that I am using the Galaxy Nexus extended battery. I feel like every time I turn on the screen I lose 1-3% of battery. For the record, I've tried multiple Roms (Stock, SuperStock, NexusMod, Sky ICS, and running CM9 RC2 currently) and multiple radios (running RUXLF3 currently). I've tried underclocking my CPU with SetCPU and that doesn't seem to help. I just installed JuiceDefender but I don't see that doing much as I can't really turn off data with the screen off because I'm connected to my company's email (refreshes automatically every hour.) The only stuff I get pushed to me is Gmail (and I consider a very busy email day to be 5 emails in a given day). I don't get Twitter or Facebook updates sent to my phone. And yes I have Wifi/BT/GPS off as I don't need them. I'm not in an LTE market and thus am using HSPA+. However, when I WAS in an LTE area (NYC and Atlanta) the battery drain was almost to the point where I almost hoped I DIDN'T get LTE in my market if it meant my battery life would be as atrocious as it was.
Within about a 8 hour period it is not uncommon at all to be around 50%, sometimes dipping as low as 30% depending on how boring my day is thus resulting in more FB/Twitter checks than normal. I know that the Galaxy Extended battery isn't going to give me life on par with a Razr MAXX, but the difference I've noticed between the OEM and Extended seem almost negligible. Is this considered "Typical" performance or am I doing something wrong either software/hardware wise? Could I just have a bad phone and try and get it replaced since it's still under 1 year warranty? I'd prefer to not have to do that unless necessary as it means I need to back everything up and then wipe out my data and go back to Stock and reset the flash counter and then do the ICS update via Kies (because I know AT&T will fire back and say "Try out ICS first and then return if that doesn't work!") and all that fun junk.
Thanks
Sounds about right to me. Just turn off data when you aren't using it is all I can say.

My thoughts:
1. 50% in 8 hours of moderate use is, imo, not terribly unusual for a Skyrocket without a ton of fine-tuning done to it. The Skyrocket, in general, is not a marathon-runner of a phone. It's better for short sprints, although you can (as I have) make it a marathon runner with extensive tweaking.
2. I haven't tried all the ROMs you've listed, but I can tell you that CM9 on my Captivate and my Skyrocket had severe wakelock issues. My Skyrocket's battery would drain off at twice my usual rate when I tried it, and the ROM prevented my Captivate from sleeping at all (I was lucky to get six hours out of a charge--at best). It's not my favorite ROM for battery life. SkyICS, in my experience, is the absolute best battery life of any ROM.
3. Get rid of JuiceDefender and SetCPU. JuiceDefender works primarily by preventing applications from doing what they want to do. Common sense dictates that when a computer program is unable to do an assigned task because its primary method of doing so is blocked, it will try something else. That "something else" may or may not result in a series of wakelocks. SetCPU is designed for single-core processors. The changes it makes will usually affect only one of the two cores in a Skyrocket's CPU, causing the second core to do weird things. I do, however, recommend using System Tuner. All you need is the free version, because all you need to do is lower your min to 192 and change your governor to ondemand or conservative (I use conservative). You're not forcing new profiles onto the phone's CPU, just giving it a little "attitude adjustment".
4. Get rid of the Facebook app and replace it with Friendcaster. Like, now. The Facebook app uses battery and data even if you tell it not to.
5. Have you downloaded BBS? If so, are you using it to track down your wakelocks? I've got a post inside of the above thread that explains how to do so and, well, explains just about everything else I've already said here or would say if I continued. So, yeah, just read that thread. It's not terribly long, and there's a ton of great info in the OP and throughout.
For reference, I'm a light-to-moderate user of my phone, not as heavy as you by any means. I'm not in an LTE area, which helps. That being said, with the Nexus extended battery, I'm now at 2 days, 5 hours and still at 23% charge. I used the phone very heavily while traveling a couple of days ago, starting at 7:00 AM Eastern at 100% and ending at 11:45 PM Mountain with 11% left, 4h45m of screen-on time.
I just find that odd since I find people giving great stories with the SKY ICS and others in terms of battery life. Ironically, I've found that SKY gave me some of the WORST battery life which really made me feel like a dolt. Here's the latest battery stats attached. Perhaps my view of things is skewed though because my day starts at 6am and I'm at work by 7 (with my phone typically turned on at 6:30) so I still have a good portion of my day left by the time I get home and my phone is typically less than 50% by that time. It's weird to know you have about 7 hours left in your day and your phone is saying like 40% power left.
What's your screen-on time in those screenshots? The frequent wake-ups make me think that you've got some rogue apps syncing when they shouldn't be.
Hello OP, I have exactly the same problems as you except i'm still running stock (rooted with frozen bloat). I tried the Galaxy Nexus Extended Battery and from stock it was more horrible. appox 1 hour less than the stock battery. I did try not using my phone like normal (about 25 mins of screen on time) which was a PITA because mobile internet is my only way to sneak down time while watching my toddler son. The battery lasted 11 hours. With stock battery, I would've lasted around 10 hours. A lot of people say it might be bad battery BUT how can I have such terrible luck to get a bad stock and a bad GNEX ext batt??? lol. So I ordered the qcell 3800mah extended battery and boy I won't be looking back!!!! I am currently still at 25% battery, 17 hours 20 mins with 3 hour 38 mins screen on!! I watched two Naruto episode last night and didn't have to worry about my phone dying while I'm sleeping and end up not getting important calls from husband early in the morning. The hump doesn't look great but it does not bother me when I'm holding the phone and I have small hands. The weight is a little bit on the heavy side but for so much more battery hours, I don't think you'd mind. Now, if you are the type who is always out and can't find sockets all the time, I suggest you try this qcell ext batt. for $20 you can't go wrong. I know you'd hate spending another $20 but trust me the battery works wonders.
On a side note, i also ordered a charger for my standard and GNEX battery from ebay so I can charge them independently if i ever have to go on long long trips and need super juice. That's another $4, takes two weeks to get here from China. There's a hack here in XDA somewhere to make it a really fast charger because it is really a SLOW charger despite what their ad claims.
Good luck!!
PS: I also bought the SetCPU since everybody swears by it. I never saw any difference.

I just checked and it says 1 hour 4 minutes. There's NO way it's been on that long, or at least not with me looking at it, and I usually turn off my screen when I'm done as opposed to letting it go to time out, which is 60 seconds anyways. I'd say 30 minutes would be it AT MOST.
Is it in your pocket a lot or out of sight

My goal is to avoid the super extended battery because then it means I need to buy a whole new case as well. I'm one of those people that "needs" a protective case because the only reason I have the Skyrocket is because last December my 1 year old took my beloved Nexus One and threw it down 16 flights of stairs. The phone then entered a vegetative coma state and never recovered. I can't have that happen again. So basically I'd have to buy the new phone then buy the new case. I'm trying to spend as little extra money as possible.

well, there are hacks floating around with otter box to fit the hump back. I'm sure you will find other cases from ebay that can be hacked this way too. I don't have this problem since Ii use my phone naked because i only got it for $10.00 and my other line is due for upgrade soon. anyhow, it really depends mostly on what you would rather have, battery life or case. It could be the phone but most likely AT&T will tell you that smartphones consume a lot of energy and if you are not within that 30 day period anymore they'll probably give you a refurbished one and you might end up with a more dud one than the one you already have.

I try to keep my phone out of my pocket because I don't think cell waves near my "area" is a good combination. When I am at work it's on my desk for about 7 hours, and then at home I usually leave it out (at a high elevation away from my daughter of course.)
Does your screen kick on when you get notifications do you know

I just checked and it says 1 hour 4 minutes. There's NO way it's been on that long, or at least not with me looking at it, and I usually turn off my screen when I'm done as opposed to letting it go to time out, which is 60 seconds anyways. I'd say 30 minutes would be it AT MOST.

That's still a little high. I was going to ask if your volume rocker wakes your phone, as that can be a big phantom screen-on culprit, but if your phone's on you desk most of the time...
Download BBS and pin down your wakelocks and alarms (which cause wakelocks) from there. If your phone's not suffering any extreme drain from a rogue app or process, then you might just be at the best you're going to get for your usage.
Have you tried different radios at all? I've heard those can have a minor effect on battery life, depending upon your area.

No but the 4 buttons do as it is a CM9 feature. Honestly though they aren't on for very long as I usually am near my phone and notice such things rather quickly.

I don't use the volume rocker for waking just FYI.
I got BBS. It looks informative but I'm not really sure what I should be focusing in terms of statistics and what, if anything should jump out as problematic. Any tips?
I have tried at least 4 different radios but I haven't noticed any major difference between them.
I just saw that CM9 has now been officially released in stable form. Maybe that will help. I'll try that ROM now. I hope CM9 is not the issue, as I've always been a "Vanilla Android" kind of guy and I really like how ICS is designed. I never liked how the other ROMS still had touches of Touchwiz in them. I especially don't like how it mimics iOS styles so much. I mean, I'm definitely pro-Samsung in the major lawsuit, but Apple has more than a few valid points in their argument. Having similar icons and a SMS theme that basically mimics iOS isn't going to help Sammy in the big lawsuit.
True, it's a well-known problem. You may find some rom with better battery life (here is the rom I'm using: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1436854). You can also download some apps that save your battery. Try to turn off GPS, Wi-fi and data when you're not using, and also do not keep the brightness of your screen too high. I hope these would be helpful to you.
Check the link in my sig for details on how to really use BBS to improve your battery life. You're not that far off of a normal battery life for moderate to heavy usage, so just tweak it and go from there.

The thing is though is that I don't consider myself to be a moderate to heavy user, but more of a light to moderate. As I said, on a typical day I answer maybe 5-15 text messages, check Facebook/Twitter a handful of times, almost never get emails sent as I have no life, do almost no web browsing, and maybe take a phone call or 2. I very rarely play games and even less often stream media. My gmail is push but that's about it. I also use Touchdown for Exchange but that queries only once an hour. Am I still being unrealistic with my expectations on my battery?
Something definitely seems off, and you may well have a bad battery or even a bad phone. Try to go through and clean everything up in terms of wakelocks and any possible rogue apps. If you're still in bad shape after cleaning up your phone, something seems off. Mobile data does chew up more battery than Wifi, but not THAT much, and especially not in an HSPA area.

I don't think it's a battery issue. I've used the OEM and the Galaxy Nexus extended battery and both are delivering similar performance (although GN is slightly better obviously.) And as I mentioned, when I was in an LTE area my battery was getting beat down like Homer Simpson in a fight with Drederick Tatum.
Would it be advisable to try a FULL wipe of my phone? When I was installing CM9 today I saw the option to format EMMC. Should I try doing that or wiping other stuff or would that just do more bad than good? Should I try wiping that and/or the SD card?
