Hello. I've searched all over but could not find the right answer.
I installed Chinese language support (don't remember where I got it) to read and write/type in Chinese. While that's awesome, the default input is always Chinese (pinyin). I lived with it for a while, but it's really annoying. Every time I press a key on the keyboard or on the on-screen-keyboard, it thinks I'm trying to write something in pinyin. I have to slide open the physical keyboard and press control+space to switch to English. I have to control+space again to type English in the next text field.
I know someone will ask this, but no, changing input methods doesn't fix the problem.
My question: How do I make the default input language English?
Or maybe I should ask: Can someone recommend me a free software package to allow me to read and write Chinese that doesn't have this problem?
T-Mobile Touch Pro2 Rhodium
WinMo 6.5 (same issue in WM6.1)
Thanks for the help that is hopefully to come!
Edit: I wanted to post this to Questions forum. I don't know how to move the post, can an admin do it please?
Hi,
I have Omnia II with English WM 6.5 and some default ROM (I guess details are not important). I bought bluetooth keyboard Freedom Pro and want to use it with my phone. But the keyboard layout is English. Is there ANY way how to change it to Czech QWERTY layout? I have regional settings set to Czech, and Samsung Keypas also set to Czech (and it works without problems) so I think somewhere deeply hidden is Czech keyboard layout. But I didn't find any way to force the phone to use it.
When I connect the keyboard to my computer, I can switch english and czech layout simply by SHIFT+ALT. It doesn't work when connected to the phone.
In my registry in HKLM/System/CurrentControlSet/Control/Keyboard Layout/Active=00000409.
In HKLM/System/CurrentControlSet/Control/Layouts/ are 2 directories - 00000409 and e0010409. In HKLM/System/CurrentControlSet/Control/Layouts/00000409/ are a few keys (I hope it is the right word for value) - "Layout File"=S3c6400_keypad_US.dll; "PS2_AP"=S3c6400_keypad_US.dll; "Layout Text"=US and BuildInKeypad=S3c6400_keypad_US.dll;
I thought the "S3c6400_keypad_US.dll" file may contain settings of keyboard layout. So I found similar structure on my comp and found "kbdcz.dll" there. I copied it to my windows/ directory and changed all the three paths above to this new file. After soft reset nearly all keys become crazy (even on SW keyboards - most of buttons produced MANY characters when pressed) but after a while I managed to set the registry back and soft reset the phone again. Then I decided it's better to ask for help rather than playing with registry.
So do you know a way how to solve this? Is there any czech version of S3c6400_keypad_US.dll that would work for me? Or it's not so simple?
Thank for answers
Ok folks, this is a serious issue! (At least for me!)
I've used apps like custom locale & more locale to change the basic system language (aka menus).
But since Android is linux based there should be a way to actually pick the entire language package from one ROM (like original pt-br) and insert/replace en-us or chinese ones.
I've searched for an app to do so but to no avail.
Maybe this should be a Thread for "Android development" but since I have a Defy and the ROM I'm using (and liking more) is chinese I chose to place it here (Just to explain: I don't speak chinese and my docs are in portuguese).
Could some developer out there help with this issue?
of course there is a way. it's called apktool, well, a little patience too.
that's how we've got chinese on uk/tmo/pl releases.
but since you are asking the question, don't try doing it just now.
I want to know too.
on Linux, I know is need to config locale,
don't know android.
Hi,
This weekend I bought a HTC Flyer and I'm so happy. There is one thing though that's killing me...
I also bought a Bluetooth keyboard so I can write faster when I write large texts etc. The thing is though that I can't change the keyboard layout to German (even if the Keyboard has a physical layout of German, the software keyboard layout is still English).
I can't find anything under the "Languages and Keyboard" settings so I'm currently a bit desperate.
How can I get my German configured android system to understand to use a "Germany layout keyboard" and not a "English layout"?
I really hope that someone can support me here...
Thanks
Hirrsson
PS: Please consider that I'm really a android newbie so I don't understand all the terms etc yet....
hello there to everyone
as this is my first post on this forum, i'd like to take this line to thank all of you whom share information, knowledge, and whatnot to all others: Thank You.
posting here to request the same informtion: pairing an external bluetooth keyboard forces said keyboard to be in english layout, whatever the keyboard. (in my case: french).
In locale the bluetooth keyboard does appears, offering Three settings, but none regarding layout.
I personaly see this as a feature that is lacking due to the fact that the os is intended to be primarily used via touchscreen keyboard; but i also think this feature is needed big time. now heading to official android feature request to see if it has been added to newer versions (am runing 2.3) and if not, request it.
I did this for my Stowaway Keyboard. It is a lot of work, you need root on your device, rootexplorer and Hexeditor.
I can guide you through if you wish.
Which phone? Which keyboard? What has to be changed? öäü? y-z ???

Heya,
My kid just got a Teclast P76 Ti in x-mas present. Can I do anything to it without ruin the whole tablet setup?
I've been searching and did not see anything about updating or rooting these devices.
One thing I've seen in the tablet is in the language settings.. the last 3 options are in chinese, how do I change that?
And is t possible to alter the OS in any way?
If so... To what?
Language selection options are usually in the language the person wants. The Chinese options will be for Chinese languages and anyone wanting these can read them. For example, if I wanted to set the language to Thai, the entry would say Thai in Thai script not in English.
