[Q] G2X Card Dock Good - Desk Dock Not - T-Mobile LG G2x

Just got my G2X and purchased both a card dock and a desk dock from my local T-Mobile store. The card dock is not bad and also fits my older Samsung Vibrant and my wife's iphone. I have orderd a 90 degree micro USB connector and will see if I can figure outa way to connect it tot he car dock so I can easily charge while I am driving
I am having an issue witht the desk dock which interestingly is the same issue I had with the samsing vibrant in the vibrant car dock. if I connect the phone dorectly to the laptop running Xp withthe supplied cable, it charges and I can mount the USB drives in the phone. When in the dock, it will charge but I get a USB Device not recognized error
Anone else seeing this?

The dock might only have the charging wires in it...... Is the wire you use to connect it to computer the same wire attached to the dock? Does the dock need a power supply? which dock is it so we can look it up.

My car and desk docks arrived yesterday - I ordered them online.
Same issue with the desk dock. Win7 x64 Ultimate recognizes the dock as a USB root hub but is looking for drivers.
No, it doesn't require a separate power adapter - it pulls the juice from the USB port when plugged into the computer.
If anyone has a solution it would be GREATLY appreciated!

[Q] car charger and usb cable combo?

ok so my GF has a car charger for her blackberry that has the built-in usb port so you can hook up something else. this is great for roadtrips so we can share a charger. my old touchpro2 worked just fine using the usb cable and the charger but for some reason i cant get my D2G to do the same thing. i tried it when i first got the phone (before i hooked it up to my computer) but it didnt work. i was wondering if anyone else is able to do this? is there a certain usb mode i should leave the phone in? (pc mode, charge only...) i have a road trip planned and like to use wifi tether but i dont wanna buy a $30 car charger and have more crap and wires to deal with
thanks
It might be that the charger doesn't supply enough power

does anyone do this?
what type of car charger do you use?
My girlfriend has one that she got with her Samsung and it works fine and I have another one from Verizon that works also.
well if i cant get it to work then ill just buy one for my D2G and use the usb port for her phone... any recommendations for a good and relatively cheap charger?

[Q] LG G2X dock.

The day after my G2X arrived I went to the t-mo store and bought a dock for it.
I also bought the speck case. about four days later I tried to use the dock and realized it didn't fir with the case, not unexpected. I just wanted it to charge and display the clock while at my desk, all was fine.
Well I've since gone mad with the fever and realized yet another flaw with the Dock. When connected via USB to my PC, the dock only runs in usb 1.1 and not USB 2.0 mode. The phone can be connected directly to the same cable as the dock uses and it works fine, but when the dock is involved it drops to 1.1 speeds. Does this happen for anyone else? Tried front and rear ports and several different USB cables I have laying around. Also tested from a Gigabyte Dual quad motherboard that is known for having "Hot" usb ports and it has the same issues so It doesn't seem to be a power issue.
Is it just a bad dock, or is this as designed?

[GUIDE] $7 cable that triggers Car Dock Mode (NO SOLDERING REQUIRED!)

WARNING! CONNECTING ANY CABLE TO YOUR PHONE THAT DID NOT COME WITH YOUR PHONE IN THE BOX COULD DAMAGE YOUR PHONE, YOUR COMPUTER, THE ELECTRICAL WIRING IN YOUR HOUSE, AND IT COULD KILL YOU!
you have been warned
Soooo I recently stumbled across this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=744636&page=3
that states that if you short pins 4 & 5 on a micro USB connector and plug it into an HTC Desire, the phone will automatically go into car dock mode. as luck would have it, I happen to know that this is the same method that is used to trigger USB OTG on devices that support it. The wheels in my brain began to turn... $7 and a few days later I came up with this:
MICRO USB HOST ADAPTER + A BIZARRE A TO A USB CABLE = A CHARGING/DATA CABLE THAT TRIGGERS CAR DOCK MODE!
I have tested this on my G2 using Virtuous G-Lite 2.0.1 and it works perfectly, but YMMV.
I got the USB host adapter here
http://www.amazon.com/Micro-B-Adapt...3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1328093895&sr=1-3
and the A to A USB cable here
http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-...3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1328094123&sr=1-3
Just in case you haven't already figured it out you just connect the female end of the OTG adapter to either one of the male ends on the A to A cable, then use the cable as you would any other charging/data cable in your car. the only difference is that now your device will automatically switch into car dock mode when you plug it in! you could also connect this cable to a dock that has a female micro USB connector on the back (like the G2 OEM desktop dock here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1473718) and create your own car dock!
an extra word of warning, DO NOT USE THE A TO A CABLE ON ITS OWN FOR ANYTHING! this is a non-standard conforming cable that would damage any two USB devices that you attempted to connect with it. I have no idea what it's intended use is on it's own, but don't think that it is the same thing as a USB data transfer cable (transfer cables have a chip inside the cable that makes the two connected USB host devices see each other as USB slave devices. this A to A cable is just a copper wire)
Nice, I didn't know people wanted this. I got a premade cable. Off ebay that triggered car mode no mods needed and it was a buck. Lol

Any idea about standard dock mode? I know the official tmobile dock auto opens a desk clock.

My guess would be that the cable was not intended to trigger car dock mode, it was just poorly made. a really bad soldering job on the pins would short pins 4 & 5 and do the same thing. Other people have reported this same behavior when they buy low end cables or get water in their micro usb ports.
I tried this and it seams to work but all it does its launch tunein radio, any idea how to change it to other apps such as torque? Thanks
The short thing does work. I my self stumbled on to it while repearing a aftermarked charger .. I opened up the mini usb side and it had a resistor on jumping pin 5( - ) to pin 4 . With the resistor on it charches with the resistor bypassed and just jumped to pin 4 it goes in to car dock mode. Also my friend got a samsung infuse and came with a hdmi dongle usb, so out of curiosity hooked it up to my g2 and it whent to car dock mode

[Q] Philips AS111 force to charge

Hi all,
I have a Philips AS111 docking station/bluetooth speaker/charger. Worked perfectly for my SGS2, however, since I bought a new phone (Sony Xperia Z1 Compact) I'm experiencing some problems.
I bought an micro usb to magnetic connector adapter to be able to connect my phone to the dock without having to open the flaps all the time. I took it apart and it basicly splits the first and fifth pin of the micro USB connector to the pins in the magnetic connector. Unfortunately I may not link to external images...
Unfortunately, my phone does not charge when using the adapter in combination with the Philips dock. It does when using the original Sony USB charger and the adapter, so the adapter is fine.
I measured the voltage on the two pins, and it's 0V. I even tried to fool the dock by putting a 1.5kOhm resistor over several lines. Only when I put a 1.5kOhm resistor between 5V and the connector housing, the dock responded by turning on Bluetooth. Voltage went crazy, flipping between 0 and 3V, but phone still doesn't charge.
I think the sollution is to fool the dock by putting a certain resistor between certain lines or by shorting certain lines. Does anyone have a clue how to fool the dock to think there is a device connected, so it opens the +5V line?
Thank you very much!
Nobody into usb connection protocols? :crying:
Finally got it working. Eventually I needed to connect two wires together inside the device. One of them being 'CLAS1' and the other was Ground. Both could be found on the connector going to the micro usb plug of the device. Unfortunately I can not post a link to the photo I made of it.

Hello!
I've just bought an AS111. Charges perfectly my SGS4 but it doesn't do a thing when I try connecting my SGN3 (the one with the micro-usb 3 connector) to the Philips dock. I know that the micro-usb 3 is backwards compatible but I do believe that the AS111's dock outputs too little power - or something like that, I am no expert.
I was wondering that maybe your experience could be of help to me. What do you think? If so, could you please guide me through the stuff you did to the dock? Thank you!

Tf300t keyboard dock mod USB connection

Hi all,
I am trying to mod my old tf300t and keyboard dock into a dex dock for my note 9. Im not worried about the tablet portion as i can get a lcd controller for the panel. However ive been soldering and desoldering for the last 3 days. I am trying to leverage the docks kb controller and add a usb connection or modify the dock port into a usb.
I have looked at the various pinouts but cannot get the keyboard working.
I dont care about audio or sd card or the extra usb port.
Any help or pointers would be great.
Here is a mockup of the pinouts i have soldered based on the pinouts i found
Ive been trying to test it on an old s7edge incase i wire something wrong. It detects a regular keyboard but when i try this nothing...if i use the wall charger i see that the dock is charging but still nothing at the dock connector. Ive been trying with a usb 2.0 cable. Connected to the d+ d- vcc ( all 3) and multiple grounds and i pinned the sense pin to ground as well.
I have also tried to open the charge cable and solder the usb to the data pins on that both with and without ground. And use a 5v plug and the original asus plug.
The dock port is basically garbage at this point so if i plan to use that i need to use the 2 20 wire connectors and map the individual wires .
I have managed to get the s7edge to detect that something is connected. However i then resoldered the pins to try more as it wasnt working. So i need to go back to the beginning to try again. I believe my issue was due to the otg aspect of the usb. Im using an adapter for the phone but i also tried to wire the connector the same way. Ill take some pictures of it later if i can get it working
So not sure if anyone is following this thread but i have made progress.
I have totally butchered the original 40 pin connector and now am tapping into the 40 individual wires that connect the main board to the connector pcb. I can get my s7edge to detect that the usb connector is attached but it keeps telling me that a high power usb device is attached and that it needs an external power source.... so today i busted out the multimeter and i believe i connected one of the usb host vcc connections to the other vcc connections so i separated this. I also believe that the s7edge has some usbotg voltage issues so im going to test it with an old macbook pro with windows to see what it picks it up as. When i get some more time i will try to trace the other wires there might be something else needed
Maybe
Nice job, I'm not particularly knowlegdable in electronics but I remember there is a battery portion in the dock? Maybe it causes some error during otg?
