I am having difficulty viewing a vcard received via text message. My phone recognizes it's an MMS but views it as a Multimedia file and tries to play it.
My phone (EVO) is rooted running Cyanogen 7.0.1.2 and I'm using the builtin messaging app. I don't want to use handcent or an alternative messaging app.
I have taken a screenshot of what I'm experiencing
There doesn't seem to be a solution to this..
android cant get vcard i think.
someonew please build a fix or hack for it ...
its been too long that noone could solve it
vCard
That's not true Miui can send and receive vCards and I have used other roms including those based on Cm10 that could do the same I think you need a modded mms.apk Easiest would be to use Miui.

I've been searching forever for an app that will handle Vcards sent to my S3 via a Blackberry or iPhone. The MMS comes in blank on my text app (8ms messsaging) or even stock messaging app, but there's no way to view the vcard attachment.
Enter "Save MMS Attachemtns" app.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobappli.savemms
Opening it brings up a list of all of your MMS messages within your text threads. The interface isn't very advanced and I haven't played with it enough to be able to select just one MMS, but regardless...clicking save will export all MMS to a folder on your phone entitled "SaveMMS"
From there, you'll need to delete the extra extension text after ".vcf"
Now click on it to open with your vcard handler app. I use DW Dialer as it's way better than stock Google dialer. It takes 8 seconds to respond after clicking, but it will import to your contacts.
This is far from an elegant fix, but if you receive vcards for work like me, you need something that will work, no matter how involved.
If anyone has a better way, let us know but a big thanks to the dev for writing this.
Hi guys.
I've been working on vCards on Android for few years. If you wanna check my app bizCard Manager. It supports sending and receiving (importing) MMS vCards too.
But to be honest, many current davices has MMS vCards suport built in nowdays.

I've come across an burdening issue sending a txt with multiple recipients. Though the grouped chat style text messaging is an incredible advantage, there are some cons and i'm wondering if they can be fixed somehow.
Because of the chat style text messaging, your first outgoing message gets coped to your inbox. Is there any way for the first outgoing message to NOT be copied to your inbox?
This poses an issue for when you are sening a mass/group text message. For example, if i send out "Happy New Year" to 50 people in one text, i get 50 outgoing copies in my inbox.
Suggestions?
i would like to be able to select multiple recipiants while in contacts like the old 8525 instead of having to add each one manually, anyone have a fix for that?

use an app called group sms.
if you go to your sent items folder for sms and delete that message, it will remove it from all the recipients.. easiest fix i found
Right now I'm using Handcent SMS and it's okay but I'm missing a very usefull feature: Marking some text in a recived SMS and send it to another app.
Example:
If I recive a adress then then mark it and send it to maps.
If I recive a appointment then mark it and send it to the calender
Is there an SMS app that can do this? and have all the other great features of Handcent?
I am not aware of an sms app that can do that. There are copy/paste apps that can get addresses over to Nav as a work around though.
Sent from my Droid using XDA App
I'm using the copy/paste trick now but I think it culd be done easier.
Am I really the first one who thought of this?
I'm not a developer but I think it would be somewhat easy to make.
1. make it possible to mark out some of the text in a sms
2. pop up a menu with options: Save as.., copy, send to..
3. a sub menu to send to where it list the apps that should receive the text. maps, contacts, calender, whatever
Well now the idea is out there, then I home some developer picks it up

I'm not trying to be rude, really, but you need to use spell check or something because your spelling & grammar create an impression that makes you seem child-like & lazy, and in turn could turn some people away. I know I reached for the back button before I even finished reading. Just something to think about.
I'm pretty sure there's not a way to do what you're asking. You could do the opposite, use handcent or chomp as your main messaging app and blacklist the conversation. Do note that this will make all communication with that number invisible in the app & you will not receive notifications (you will from the stock sms app unless you turn them off) until you take them off of the blacklist.
An easier solution: don't delete your text messages. If you feel like you have to, make a plan to delete only every day or two (or however long you prefer) and do a backup prior. I hope you realize that text messages use very little space & there's no real reason to delete them immediately unless you're trying to hide them. Just think before you act... and problem solved.
Hi,
I was wondering, if it would be possible to integrate the Whatsapp messages for a contact in the sms history. So that you don't have to look up twice all the messages because you have them all at one place.
Furthermore, it would be great if i am writing a contact a sms who i also got in WhatsApp that then the message would automaticly send via WhatsApp. I mean something like that my phone checks wheter the contact is in WhatsApp and if yes sens over it and not a normal sms.
These two things would be fantastic because I never have to open up the WhatsApp App because everything is integrated and works automaticly.
Could this be done?

Any new posts about this? I just switched to Android from Blackberry and I find it a huge pain. Also I wish there was a number next to the notification icon on the top.For example is you have 3 messages it will have 3 and then the icon. I will look around for a fix for that on my phone.
I am using a G2x with Tsugi and stock SMS application.
My coworkers will send each vcard/vcf attached to a SMS from their iPhones. I cannot get Android to open the attachment and add to contacts. It works easily if I received an email with attached vcard, but not SMS.
Any advice?
Would chompSMS/handcent/etc help?

I would try the third party apps (chomp, handcent, etc...). A vcard file is a contact right? I'm not sure why it would open in an email, but not in an sms...
Also, you may have to import it from the contacts app rather than just opening it direct. Theoretically it should automatically know what to do, but you never know.
