Hi guys!
Can anyone [who has/had a Xoom] comment on the Transformer's GPS? I thinking of selling my Xoom Wifi and getting the Transformer but I'm hesitant because I'm impressed with the Xoom's strong internal GPS strength which I use a lot for offline maps and navigation.
Does the Transformer's GPS locking capability hold up with the Xoom's?
Thanks!

Hey guys, my transformer doesn't seem to be finding a GPS signal via Maps.
Any tips?

go outside and try "gps status" or "gps test" and wait for a fix
Yea, I noticed that the TF GPS is REALLY slow.... I thought my phone had the slowest GPS but the TF proved that wrong.
I know I was able to modify my GPS.conf to speed it up on my phone, anyone know what file needs to be modified on the TF?
slow? i've got a cold fix without downloading gps data in 20-25 seconds :?
Mine takes well over a minute not matter if I'm outside or in. My phone was the same. After I made some changes to my gps.conf file it takes less then 10 seconds to lock now. Would want to implement the same setting on the TF now.
After going on a little road trip and nearly getting lost, I realized just how slow the GPS on the TF101 actually is. I could never get a GPS fix while inside a moving vehicle, when my HTC Desire was able to get one in a matter of seconds. As it was, I had to use OsmAnd on the Desire to find my way to where I needed to go, and had to suffer through the tiny screen on my phone which made it hard to pinpoint locations. Once I got to where I was going I tried to test the GPS on the Transformer again, and it took almost a minute to get a fix while I was stationary with a clear view of the sky. Pathetic.
I would have wanted to use the bigger screen to display the maps: it would have made navigation a lot easier. Now I'm wondering if there's a way to get my phone to relay GPS information to the Transformer, as its GPS is a lot more reliable, and have the Transformer display the maps based on the relayed GPS info. I've been looking around for apps that could conceivably do this but so far no luck.

same file... /system/etc/gps.conf
I made my own gps.conf file... I get lock on average within 5 seconds.

Wife's RAZR sees the hotels wifi 3 stories up just fine & yet I can't see **** on my SGS3!
Even on ground floor I cannot see or connect to the hotel!
Don't use wifi much in states so now I'm wondering does the wifi radio suck in the SGS3?
Having to BT tether is painful.
Anyone else who regularly uses wifi confirm or deny sucky wifi in this phone?
My Wi-Fi signal reception in the US is similar to other devices (iPad, transformer tf 101, old captivate, and thunderbolt).
Are you on any special kernel?
Wi-Fi in Europe has slightly different defaults (channel wise), could be that the phone isn't optimized for that. On other devices, I had custom Rom that let you select region for Wi-Fi optimization
must be the curvature of the earth.
Yes WiFi sucks on this device.......downright terrible. All other devices get full WiFi in my living room from my router downstairs. This phone barely gets a bar. Had to get a WiFi extender to be able to use my WiFi. My wife's is the same as mine. Samsung really screwed up some major aspects of this phone.
We are just about to upgrade to BT Infinity with a theoretical maximum speed of 78Mbps and locally report peaks of about 65Mbps.
Currently online testing shows we get about 6.5Mbps.
I connect to our broadban through three routers. One is a master router (Homehub 3) and the the other 2 (Homehub 2) are configured as WiFi extenders hard wirded to the master router through TPLink adapters (200Mbps).
I've notice recently that the Xoom seems slower when surfing. This could mean that I need to clear out some of the unwanted data and apps and do a reset.
However given that the Xoom is 802.11 a/b/g/n what sort of improvement should I see on the Xoom due to the Infinity upgrade?
I have infinity back home, though the 40mb/s connection and in real terms I get 36mb/s
Is it it appreciably quicker on the Xoom or is the limiting factor the Xoom hardware?
A lot of people have issues with the antenna on the Shield tablet. Some of us are able to block WiFi transmission or severely weaken it by putting our hand over the corner of a tablet (happens to me just by holding the tablet in portrait mode with the camera on the top).
I am a new member so can't link to the YouTube video I made demonstrating this phenomenon. I can't post a link because I'm a new user, but it's titled: Nvidia shield tablet bad WiFi design, don't buy a lemon.
Another YouTube posted a video a week ago showing the same effect. His video is called: Nvidia shield tablet, how to hold your tablet in your lap.
I'm on the 2.4ghz band in the video only a room away. Does it happen to you guys too? Do you have any other issues with the WiFi on this thing?
Thanks.
WiFi reception isn't as strong as other devices I have in the home, and I can decrease the signal by holding the bottom right corner when held in portrait in particular, but I've not managed to choke the reception entirely or have it be a practical issue at all.
I haven't notice any WiFi signal degrading when holding the tablet at all. but then again I have an AC87R router that outputs pretty crazy signal strength.
My router is ASUS top of the line AC router from last year, probably helping me also.
I'm on my second shield tablet and niether have had any WiFi issues. And I use a crappy centrylink router. Grid works perfect.
Mine has weak wifi and am going to get a replacement from amazon tomorrow. Hopefully it's just my unit. I may invest in a new AC router next.

I think I have problems with Wi-Fi too. For example, playing Modern Combat 5, connection is lost many times...Maybe it's a Gameloft problem...
Sometimes I have issues with downloads on Google Play too....
I don't know if it's a problem or not...or if it's a hardware or software problem...
Hi, I bought a*Sm-t239 Samsung Tab4 as GPS navigator in my Micra Nissan Car (year*2008).
I encountered issue on my GPS system and the tablet often lost my GPS signal and the navigator recalculated always the route.
I searched on Google some tablet*that gets a best Gps system part and I found that Nexus 9 by HTC should be the best one.
But for both tablets I get about same results.
I noticed that for Samsung in Gps Status Toolbox app I get less satellites than Htc tablet and effectively when I go out the tunnels the Htc is faster than Samsung to localize my position.
I use both under windscreen through the stand*but I tried to move tablets on passenger seat and I get the same situation and GPS signal is lost.
I tried to use my OnePlus 5 phone that I arrange on my aeration nozzles and the phone always works fine! It gets abou 32 satellites.
Do you know what's the reason for my issues?
