So basicly my problem is this. I have my contacts saved on vCard on my SD card. I usually inport'em but sometimes when I flash with new ROM and I go contacts -> Import/Export -> Import from SD card it finds'em and imports'em but they are not visible in the contacts. I need to use apps like aContacts to use em. And when I edit contact, there is that "Google contact" with my e-mail under. Can someone tell me what to do. Anyone can help or advice me?
Thanks!
have u ever sync your contact with your google account? there will be some back up if you've done it in the past..or MAYBE you can import it to your google account and then sync it..if i'm not mistaken...
Import from google account vcard file on the web, and the phone should recognize it.
i had d same prob... i screwd my mind n time over this ****.....finally...i reinstalled my rom...wiped cache n dalvik cache....it ws fine den....nps til now
d prob s only dexter n khal roms work fyn wid our phne...if u try 2 experiment wid dis phne u ll get screwed

I have some vcard files on my SD Card that contain my contacts...but they aren't saved to my Gmail account. It would be nice if I was able to log into my gmail account (typically after I flash a new rom or something...) and it loaded my contacts that way...rather than always having to Import/Export them from my SD Card.
I've noticed that a LOT of the time when I import/export them from my sd card, i lose a lot of my contacts... when I import them, some of them literally just aren't there...and I don't understand why.
So I figure, if I'm able to keep them updated on my gmail account, it'll just be a more seamless transition for when I wipe my phone when flashing roms.
Nevermind.. I just sorta figured it out.
You can plug your phone into your computer, copy the vCard files onto your hard drive... log into Gmail, go to Contacts, then ADD CONTACTS, then IMPORT them using the vCard files..
Only problem is now... I can't figure out where the phone saved the vCard files on the SD Card, like...I don't know what directory to find them in.
Anyone have any idea what directory Android saves your vCard files in by default?
EDIT: nevermind, I found that out as well... I just went to the root of the SD Card, and under the "SEARCH" bar on the top right, I just typed ".vcf", and it showed me ALL of the vCard files on my SD Card/.
I won't delete this...because if someone comes across this and is trying to figure out how to do this as well...it may be helpful to them.

P.S. I know I posted this in subforum but I toth here more people can help me.
Sorry I can't help you with your particular problem but I do have a suggestion.
Import your contacts to your google contacts and that way you will always have your contacts synched and won't have to import all the time.

hi, I have the same problem that the option "import/export to/from SD card" is missing. But if you only want to import your contacts, just click on the *.vcf file in your file explorer and the import process will start!
Hello all.
Just bought a HTC Chacha.
I have transfered my contacts from my old phone to Chacha, but even though I have "Sync Contacts" enabled (Home->Settings->Data Sync->Google->Contacts) on the phone I don't see these contact details when I log into Gmail on my Win PC and click contacts???
I found the similar issue in this thread, and someone gave a explanation.

Hi guys...
Actually the problem is with the HTC... when u sync ur contacts 2 ur fone it downloads the contacts 4m gmail but not sync and stores in ur phone... if u wanna do so u need to export all the contacts to ur SD card n import back to the gmail... this syncs all the contacts to gmail including facebook, twitter n flicr links if any... these contacts are stored as other contacts in gmail... so after this if u add a contact in gmail n u want them to show in ur fone that shud be added in the other folder only... my contacts in gmail does not synced to fone...
All this **** kinda thing is entirely due to htc sync... in vanilla android all the contacts are in sync all the time automagically...
Apologies if this is confusing, coz I'm typing this on my fone...

Are there any way to fix it?

Go to people tap Menu>Import/ Export, and choose to export the contacts to the SD card.
Go to people again, tap Menu>Import/ Export, and choose to import the contacts from the SD card, when the phone prompts you which type of contact you want to import choose “Google”.
Then sync. Now you have the phone contacts on your GMail account.

Actually it's not an issue of ChaCha, all Android phones work the same. I can confirm Galaxy S does the same (at least on 2.1-update1) which was my previous phone. Maybe you have already performed this on your Galaxy and forgot about it
On every Android phone you need to perform the steps I said above (Export contacts to SD card, Import from SD card as GMail contacts, sync).

Thank you Alex, I remind that I didn't import contacts from my old phone to Galaxy S.

Yes, once you have them on the GMail server. But if you never had contacts there and only on your phone then you need to perform the steps above. (These steps are provided by Samsung and HTC).
Ah... Got you now, explains why! Thanks

SIM or Phone?
Thanks for the info above - I'm having the same problem. I am confused tho -
If I go in to 'People - All', this offers a relatively small list of contact names but if I go into 'People - Groups' then I can see all my labels from one of my gmail accounts which is a much larger number of contact names. Where is this 'People-All'? Is it on my SIM or the Phone or...?
ie if I want to export ONLY the contacts in 'People - All' onto my SD card, then do I need to choose to export from my 'Phone' or from my 'SIM'???
I am desperate to get this done as I want to print all these contacts off from my PC's gmail account. I'm going to be out of internet/Wifi contact for a while and I may need some of the telephone numbers urgently.
What I don't understand is how come all of the group labels I've created in 'People' now appear in my Gmail account but with only a few of the contacts.
If I've added contacts to People manually - have I added them to my SIM or my Phone or my SD...??
Thanks!!!
Sry for noob question.
i have tried many roms and while importing the contacts from gmail or vf card i have duplicated or u can say fourplicated ma conatcts..
i tried many apk's but no help, i cudnt delete the contacts without numbers..(those with mail id) i just have 295 contacts with numbers and 8565 in all with mail id's n all
pl help.. sry for noobing..
Before exporting backups to sdcard always remove the accounts from sync, so dat the email id's n social network contacts don't come along in ur contact backup
Its simple. Whenever you flash a new rom, after the rom boots, first turn off automatic sync option and keep it off forever. Now when you import your contacts from sd card your contacts will not get duplicated. If you log in your gmail account(you will have to do it for opening play store) and then if you turn on sync then your contacts that are stored in your gmail account will appear in your contacts list(which we don't want). So basically don't turn on automatic sync after logging in your gmail account.

I use MyPhoneExplorer to manage my contacts.
They get duplicated even when accounts synce is off.
Whatsapp is also the cause of duplicate contacts..
I had few contact which would get duplicated everytime I refresh whatsapp..
So what I did is deleted those contacts, and then added them back from whatsapp..
Now nothing gets duplicated.
Even my sim contacts get duplicated
But I don't use "What's App", then how did it get duplicated?

see wen eva u flash a rom and then flash gapps and make a account it automatically imports the contacts saved on ur account, so usually keep your sync off..
@harryhades : you too keep the sync of whatsapp off so dat the contacts dnt get duplicated with the one present in the system.
and as ehsan7 has shared the link (thanx ) use that it can delete all the contacts (i mean contacts with nos and email id's) :good:

Hello.
I use a Galaxy Y and as you know, it has a very small internal memory. We have CM7 and CM11 now and the thing with CM is we have to externally flash gapps. Considering the small memory, I hesitate to flash the gapps package and I've tried my level best to isolate myself from using Google services on my phone. But the one thing I cannot stop using is the contacts sync feature because when exporting the contacts to the SD card, the exporting seem to miss some contacts. So I have to use the cloud sync feature for my contacts but then for that one feature I'll have to flash the whole package and wait for everything to update bla bla ...
Is there any other service that I can use with which I can sync my contacts ( to gmail to? Not send it as an attachment) and not lose any contacts? Any help appreciated.
P.s also, I had come across a thread somewhere about a person moving away from Google services altogether but never managed to find it again.

I can't really think of a solution to your problem without using gapps, so my suggestion is to just use as few gapps as possible: [GAPPS][GUIDE][TOOL] PROJECT SLIM-8mb GApps & AUTO SLIM-FACTORY (free 134mb /system) have a look at this link and go the gapps folder to pick the right package for your OS (just give me a shout if you're confused) and it'll only use up less than 10MB but it contains contacts sync which you need. Hope this helps
