I'm only getting mono sound through headphones when playing audio files - Thunderbolt General

I'm running the cm7 alpha build and i'm only getting mono sound output through the headphone jack when playing audio files. However i'm getting stereo sound when making calls or using the fm radio... So I doubt its a physical hardware issue.

does the same thing to me, weird.

Are you using the standard music app? Try a different Music app and see if it's the same.

I tried power amp and it still does the same thing...
Weird..

Streaming pandora, only mono sound out as well.
EDIT :: Double checked FM radio: Stereo sound works, so it's just a software bug.

It feels good to know that others have the same issue. That way I'm sure its something to do with the early build of this rom and its not a hardware issue.

Huge sigh of relief when I saw this thread. I just got this phone as a replacement for my first TB (dead pixel) on Thursday and I hadn't used my headphone jack yet so I was pretty worried on my way to work this morning. I'm sure this will get sorted out soon.

Same problem here. I use poweramp and the sirius online apps. I can hear some sound out the the right side but just barely.
PS, I registered here to give thanks to all involved with CM7. However, I'm not allowed to post there yet

Using Alternative Headphones With The Diamond

I have seen a few posts where people say they are using their own headphones with the HTC touch diamond. I have a great set of Bose headphones I bought a while ago. What do I need to buy to be able to use these with the phone, just to listen to my MP3's not the radio obviously.
Thanks,
Roy.
You can buy the RC E100 or a ExtUSB to 3.5mm adapter.
I'm using the RC E100 - it's really good. Although, the cable is very long and then add your headphone length to that and you end up with a VERY long cable.
So I cut mine, resoldered the wires, and then used heat shrink to make it all look nice. Happy camper now.
It took hours and did my head in though.
Thanks the RC E100 sounds good, I checked it out on EBay but they are only shipping from Hong Kong (I'm UK) and I dont fancy that. Where abouts did you pick yours up?

Do you use it on the diamond? Is it working properly (music controls especially)? I'm asking, because it's not listed as compatible accessory on htc.com.
I use it, i bought it from Expansys for about £23 with a £10 off voucher. Just buy one of the Kaiser or Touch ones, theyre all the same item just under a different name on the website.
It works fine, i have some sony earphones that are meant ot be used with a remote so they have a really short lead so they work great with this. You can just leave your diamond in your pocket in standby and listen to music using the controls on the remote.

LOL I have some Sony's that I had to cut and resolder, otherwise they whole thing was way too long. I ended up shortening the cable on the RC E100 too. That was difficult!
I'm very happy with the purchase though and using that plus some good headphones makes the diamond sound really good.
hi guys, i have a question about the rc e100 remote. if you are listening to music with it and the diamond is asleep (ie. screen is off). does adjusting the volume or changing tracks or whatever wake the screen up? for me this will be decider whether i get one or not.

Im glad to tell you no it does not wake the screen up. It acts like a perfect MP3 player, if you turn off the screen and then push buttons on the remote the device will look like nothing happened and the sceen will stay off while still respoding to button pushes.

sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet. exactly what i was hoping to hear. thanks m8.
My RC E100 remote arrived couple days ago and I'm using it with my nice Bose earphones. Have to say it works a treat, once I sorted out the bug with the Audio Booster, well just turned the dam thing off. "MAKE SURE YOU DON'T USE THE AUDIO BOOSTER" it's **** but i'm sure you knew that anyways.
I'm going to shorten the cable on the actual remote, plan to do that tomorrow (should be interesting!).
The only other things I'd like to do is maybe install that SRS WOW program, maybe then I can mess around with the music settings, but I've read this isn't working yet with the Diamond, anyone know another music equalizer I can install?
Oh and lastly I spent ages putting what music I wanted onto the internal memory of the phone. Making sure all the tracks we're under the correct artist and album etc. Problem is even tho through the phones explorer shows them as they should be, when looking through windows media player library only a handfull of the tracks are sorted into correct folders. I'e most of the tracks are just under "unknown" this is fairly useless as how am i meant to search for an album by a certain artist? Why aren't they all set-up the way they are in explorer mode? This is frustrating as it means 80% of my music is simply stored under unkonwn artist and then track name!
Anyone come across this on their hanset and knows a way around it?
Thanks guys, Roy.
speaking of mp3 playback, has anyone noticed that every 5 to 10 minutes or so, sound will skip or pause just for a split second. for me this happens on both the audio manager and on CorePlayer. it has also happened with the stock ROM my phone came with (1.34) and the current cooked ROM i am using. would appreciate it if someone knows a solution to this problem, i hope it's not because of the AudioBooster. as the Diamonds volume output is pissweak without it.
oh and Roy, i think the bug with audio booster, where there is a complete lack of bass and sound is all tinny like. was solved in 1.93 ROM.

Hi, can't say I've noticed the skipping part. But maybe I haven't listened to anything long enough, i'll keep my ears open.
Basically yeah to fix the audio booster thing which I had originally turned on while listening to the radio. All I did which I read on here was to turn on mp3 player and start listening. Goto audio booster and turn it off, then on and then off again and save. This as I know it disables the bug from the audio booster and it now sounds ace. Woule like to install a proper music equalizer if I can find one.
I hear all this stuff and have seen loads of threads about it but what actually is upgrading my ROM? Why would I want to change it? I have installed various Diamond Tweaks and Advance Configs etc to speed up performance and mess about with a few settings to suit my tastes.
Why would i want to install a new ROM?
Roy.

Darn. I found out that the sony MDR-EX38iP are only partially compatible. Not sure about it's mic, but the volume controls don't seem to do anything.
I'll be testing Wal-Mart's no hassle return policy in the morning.
I'm having some trouble finding a hands free solution that's got music, and volume controls, a mic and stereo in earbuds. Anybody know of such an animal?
There's two other's that I've yet to try: the Skullcandy Titan headset, and the one's from JVC with the marshmallow earbuds.
The headset earphones that came with my DZ are better than the ones that came with my Dream, at least they stay in my ears, but I sure miss having volume controls as part of the remote.
walmart took them back, plus i tried and returned the scosche tapline headset because it didn't work either. well, at least the volume controls didn't work.
Has anyone got the SonyEricsson MH-810 Stereo Headset for Xperia? these might work since they're made for the android platform, not iOS.
Might be an app
I had trouble getting a headset with a mic to work at first. I thought the jack might be defective, but regular earbuds worked. I also noticed that it detected if I had a headset with or without a microphone. (the icon on top would change)
Then my husband told me he saw on some forum, that there's a known problem with headphones with a mics, if you have another music app installed other then the native one.
I had previously installed Winamp, so I uninstalled it and now both the HTC & the Apple headset with mic work fine.
Might be worth it to give it a try, if you have a another music player installed.

so @Milady_Odessa, with your apple headset, you can:
*answer & initiate calls
*change volume up and down
can you be more specific regarding which apple headset you are using, or possibly a picture?
Sorry I should have specified, it's the regular earbud/mic combo that came with the iPhone. It essentially does the same thing as the headset that came with my Z phone.
It can answer & adjust volume, turn on your media player. It can't initiate calls, but it can dial/call back the last number that called you by double-clicking on the middle button.

I bought the HTC HS U350. This allows you to plug in your own earphones in to the mic piece. So far it works great but i do miss having controls for skipping music and also volume. I guess it will do until i find something better
I have the G2 with the Desire Z ROM and the iPhone headset that came with my 2G iPhone and the replacement one I bought about a year after are both working. After plugging them in I see a headset icon, and I tested using the Voice Recorder app and on a phone call, mic was working fine. As far as I know nothing was touched on the ROM from the shipped other than pre-rooted things like busybox, superuser, etc.
I've just tested Skullcandy Full Metal Jacket headset which is designed to work specially with iPhone - music sounds good, stop-play button works (with 1 second lag though), calls are good as well - mic works fine, you can answer and stop the call by pressing the button on the remote.
I tested with Desire Z and Desire.
I was hoping to get Klipsch S4i to use as headset, hopefully they will work with Desire Z

Hi all
Anyone thought of using Sony mw600?
I only had this little marvel for 3 days (fone only 10 days) and I dare say it works beautiful.
It takes/makes calls without a glitch. It even displays the callers number ( didn't manage to make it display contact name yet, though)
Also it controls nicely my poweramp app, does prev/next, play/pause, and volume. It's got in ear detachable headphones, and it uses same microusb interface for charging as our lovely phones
All of this for around £30 of eBay!
It's not bad, is it?

[Q] Sound quality concern

I've noticed that quality of sound when I connect speakers (3.5mm Jack) is poor.
Music sounds tinny and distorted. If I play the same file using my Nexus S, it sounds crystal clear.
Has anyone else found this or do I have a fault with my unit?
Thanks.
I'm also interested. It could be a deal breaker for me. It would be great if someone could dig up what A/D converter is used in Transformer (but it would probably require taking it apart ). It would be great if USB sound cards worked with Android.
If anyone who has one could run a test it would be much appreciated.
I'll add in my request for some info. Good sound is vital...

Headphones a well.
I'm more inclined to think it's a fault as it really is awful.
just tested music via spotify. Sound through headphones is fine - pretty decent in fact.
<edit> youtybe vids sound fine also. <edit>
heard reports sound quality is fine, could be a damaged one you have?
You should also try checking if it's possible to put the jack deeper into the slot. The behavior you observed could be caused by bad contact. Also move the jack a little (rotate it) during playing music and check if the sound quality changes - maybe it's a little loose. But then it wouldn't be the same for headphones and speakers, so probably it's not it.
I got my transformer 32 two days ago and it worked perfectly, then today I have gotten my first SoD, and just recently my sound has gotten these same symptoms. Sound from both the speakers and headphone jack is very, VERY tinny and low quality. I thought it was linked to an app I just installed as it was not installed before when it worked fine, but the problem persists post-uninstalation. If anyone finds a fix to this PLEASE SHARE. I'd really rather not have to do an RMA already! :/
UPDATE: Now there is no sound period. I can not get anything to play from the speakers, headphones, OR over bluetooth. fun! *sarcasm*
UPDATE 2: Restart, sound is back, still fuzzy. Possibly a SRS Driver error? Perhaps the 'SRS Surround Sound' is more trouble than it's worth. Anyone know of a default driver that I could try and flash?
UPDATE 3: Sucked it up, backed up my files and did a factory reset. Sound is now back to normal sans the bad app. I'll update if it goes to **** again but let's just get this fixed Asus!
Interesting thread! I'm on day 4.5 and my speakers are tinny, which I'm saying is ok for audio only..yet not music, not even close.
But, a new world with headphone/ear buds and I discovered something interesting that I don't understand after playing around for 2+ hours. Yet now I'm really, really pleased.
My new Monster Turbine ear buds that are really nice on my iPod Touch to enhance give me an tinny sound like quality and are my newest. A 'no go' and I almost thought I had speaker problems.
But, my regular/standard iPod Touch ear buds and my Boise Headphones are really, really nice for sound quality...bass, deep sounds, etc.
I know I don't know enough about ear buds/headphones, but surprised that the ones I thought would work the best...didn't come close.
I do plan to watch them while I still have my 'return period', but super nice audio with the right ear buds/headphone only(s).
Similar issues:
Sound was fine for the first 3 or 4 day, then i started experiencing the same tinny sound, vocals almost seemed slurred audio quality was so bad, however notification sounds seemed fine. This lasted 2 days then magically the sound returned to normal. Again about 3 days later the same poor sound returned, so I searched these forums and someone had posted doing a factory reset which worked, however I do not want to be having to do this each and every time the sound goes fuzzy. Since the .13 update the whole poor sound good sound returning has happend once more....very frustrating
My 3.5mm jack works fine (day 6 for me). Sound quality is better than any other android device I've used. Volume is a little low but otherwise sounds fine.
My sound goes to crap every few days. Crackling, distortion, etc. A reboot always fixes temporarily. Clearly a software problem.
Going to miss the Dolby Mobile sound on the Iconia. While not perfect it was really good. Will see how the TF sound stacks up when it comes in tmrw!

You mentioned a bad app. What app was it?
I've just sound tested my TF the other day, and was quite impressed with the sound quality from the drivers. I did a comparison between my TF and my iPod touch using sennheiser bass driven earbuds. I'm definitely getting more clarity and bass from the TF than I am from the iPod. It sounded amazing. With that said though, I know there's a bug sometimes where I guess the sound driver isn't working properly and my movies start sounding like they're using 8-bit sound output.

Galaxy S3 cracking noise in headset

Is anyone else receiving intermittent crackling sounds when playing music while using a headset or not. Any ideas?
Nope, everything sounds perfect to me. It could be something wrong with the headphones, headphone jack or the music app that you are using. If the problem persists, I would just use my warranty and get a new one.

i am having the same crackling/pop noise issue when i tried to do BT audio streaming on my samsung galaxy s3, i have used my PC's BT 3.0 as well as the BT 2.1 Audio Receiver but they all exhibited the same problem. this seems like a problem with the BT driver, or audio profile in the phone.

My friend had the same issue so he just used a different music player and the cracking noise is gone.

Anyone have Bluetooth distortion issues??

Hey everyone,
Found out my company is ditching Sprint for Verizon which means I have to part with my beloved Nexus 5.
Anyway, from what I've been reading on here it seems like the M8 is really the only Verizon phone that can be rooted. I've had a few HTC phones over the years, including the M7, but they never seem to get along with my car's stereo. The phone part works fine but when I stream music via Bluetooth there is always a great deal of distortion in the high end. Especially on cymbal crashes. This makes it pretty much unlistenable. I'm curious if anyone has experienced anything like with with the M8? I've Googled it a few times and found threads about the One X and One M7 having this problem but have yet to see anything about the M8.
I don't stream to my car often, but on the handful of times I have, I didn't notice any sound issues. This was using Pandora and Google Music, on a Ford (2008 model).

I can't say for certain, but I imagine bluetooth audio issues would most likely be due to whatever is actually playing the music, not the phone. Bluetooth audio, in general, is terrible - unless you're using something like the HTC Stereoclip which does not use that same audio codec that just about everything else does. You could have lossless flac files on your phone, and 9/10 times it's gonna sound like crap over bluetooth, no matter what the music is being sent from.

The wife gets terrific sound from her N7 to some small bluetooth speakers we got last year and has no issues unless she's using TuneIn at which point it goes from OK to awful.
I say this to simply point out that the invariable rule of YMMV seems to hold sway here but I don't think the M8 has any generic systematic failure with bluetooth audio.

From what I understand, it has something to do with HTC setting the bitpool value too low. Which, in itself, might not be a big deal but it might just be a issue with that value combined with my car's stereo. I just don't want to lose root when I move to Verizon.

Maybe the stereo in your car just sucks? Streaming Pandora over BT in my car usually sounds great. I mean granted it's not as good as using headphones, but it sounds pretty damn good.
Also, I streamed some more over this last weekend, and while the quality was still good, it did disconnect once for no apparent reason. And once it happened, I remembered that it happened a few weeks ago as well. Same thing, I was just driving along both times, and my BT just seemed to shut off. I turned BT back on, reconnected Sync (it's damned annoying how Sync never automatically reconnects), and it worked again for the rest of the weekend.

Thanks for the info.
I saw that an OTA for the M8 pushed out today (I think) that was supposed to fix some Bluetooth issues. I won't if the disconnects were addressed.
I'm M8 should be here on Monday. I really hope it works out OK. I don't want to send it back for an iPhone. :crying:
Another OTA? Has anyone else heard this? I am having a really rough time with bluetooth headset outgoing voice quality so some sort of fix would be awesome.

If the phone volume is at max it will distort. When I turn the volume to max while streaming Bluetooth to my car stereo it sounds crackling and distorted. Turning volume down 2 clicks to about 85% on the phone fixes it

It's not a volume thing. I've tried turning it down when I had the M7 and it sounded the same.

Again, sorry, but it may just be your stereo. When Bluetooth streaming to my car I always have my phones media volume maxed and I control the listening volume via the car volume, and it sounds fine.

Do you have an aftermarket stereo? I've had 4 different head units on my car, all high end Sony and clarion and all had same thing with max volume all my previous 3 phones ( rezound, s4, and m8). Just curious if it's just aftermarket decks that have this issue which I really don't consider an issue. I prefer to have the volume lower on the source and let my deck and equalizer provide the output anyway.

No, it's a factory Ford stereo. If you know someone with a factory BT compatible stereo, maybe try pairing your phone to their car and see if streams with or without distortion?
I mean, it's possible your particular phone itself could be bad. I just don't think it's all M8's since I don't have a problem, and because I imagine we would have seen a lot more complaints.
For six months I have been playing music in my car with a one (M7) via Bluetooth, with very annoying vibrations that eventually damaged my car stereo. I just found out that if I launch the media app via the "HTC car" app, the volume is much louder and I don't have those vibrations anymore. By default the HTC car app in the M7 only includes the default "Music" app, but other media apps may be added.
Hope this may help for the M8 too.
By these vibrations detroyed my car stereo, and I had to change it. I am pretty annoyed that HTC doesn't mention this anywhere, and leaves it to the user to find out.
