[Q] Which Car Adaptor for Asus Transformer? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All
I'm planning to get (hopefully) a Asus Transformer.
Does anyone know if there is a car adaptor available for it and whether it would work with an iPad one (5volt/2A)?
Thanks in advance,
Regards,
Xhulu

No current car adapters work at the moment and it may be very difficult to create one as the Transformer takes in 15volts and cars only give 12volts!

It is very possible to make, how do you think a 12v to 220v car transformer works? It just pulls more amps.
Maybe a 5V/2A USB adapter can run the tablet while turned on, and charge it when turned off, but it will be very slow charging compared to the original 220v charger

you can use a car power inverter and plug your transformer adapter into it.

Any of those guys should do the trick nicely!

24V car charger
Hello.
I need to use asus eee pad transformer in my truck(24V). Cheapest stuff what i find right now is this(using cigaret lighter adapter to make 220v and then use wall charger):
I found from ebay 12/24v to 220v 12W inverter about 7usd
Is this gonna work or 12W its too low to charge and run pad same time?

[Q] Does the Dock come with a own charger?

Hi @all!
I was finally able to order an Eee Pad Transformer out of UK. It should arrive in the next days
Now as you perhaps know, the grid in Germany is different from the one in the UK and I'll have to use a travelling adapter or USB to charge the Transformer. No problem so far, but in the long run it's still a little cumbersome...
So do you guys know if the docking station comes with an extra charger/power supply? That would be cool because I'll order that one in Germany and I wouldn't have to use the travelling adapter all the time.
Additionally, does anyone know what the docking station will contain besides the keyboard?
Regards

In what shop did you buy it?

I won't need an adaptor but I am still highly interested in knowing which shop you used

Just to clarify - it's not the "grid" that is different in Germany; both have ~220-240 V. It's the outlets that are different. Definitely get a charger since I read that USB charging takes forever!

@funnycreature: thx for clarifying, that's what I wanted to say And yes I already read that charging via USB is a pain in the @ss. I already have an adapter, I just want to know if the docking station'll come with another one when I buy it in Germany.
@Magnesus and psinno:
Ebay First I bought via borderlinx by a subsidiary from Comet (don't know the name right now since I'm at work) but they cancelled my order because they ran out of stock (as well as Comet i think).
But I was lucky and got the only one in ebay that was shipped from UK. All others are from Taiwan right now, meaning very high custom fees and such crap.
I think how it works is that you just use the adapter and usb cable that came with your eee pad, and that plugs into the keyboard dock. And then obviously you put the tablet into the dock to charge up the main pad. I dont think there is an extra charger involved. So in your situation you will just need a normal UK>euro adapter. I doubt anyone other than reviewers have the keyboard dock yet, but from the videos/pictures I've seen this is how it seems to work.

Yeah that's what I guessed, too. Too bad though... Perhaps I'll buy the charger serparately to save me the adapter stuff.
Thx for clarifiing!
Now something different: Can I charge my Transformer with an X10 USB->supply adapter (EP-700)? Output is 5V, 700mA, the Transformer needs 15V, 1.2A. Don't really know how this would affect the device, will it just charge slower or will it damage my battery?

It will charge it much, much slower. That output is basically the same as a usb port from a computer.

It's a little higher I don't care about the speed, but the Transformer I bought is completely drained and USB driver fails to install. And since the original charger doesn't work with German power supplies, I need to charge it otherwise. Thx!

It's not a little higher in voltage though, which is what matters. The lower the voltage difference, the less current flow.
First the power supply needs to be a high enough voltage, but not too high to where the internal circuitry cannot handle it. Then the current value is how much current the charger can supply. This generally matters most with something that is hooked up 100% of the time, like a desktop, or a laptop which you are running from the charger.
I'm not sure why it wouldn't work with German power. It should be the same as adapting to any European supply, just need a physical adapter.
A picture is worth a thousand words so... pic from the manual attached.

[Q] Using with Power Gorilla

I was wondering if anyone has used a Power Gorilla with their Transformer? I wasn't sure what voltage to set, I can set 8.4,9.5,12,16 and 19volts on the Power Gorilla, the Transformer manual says the adaptor output is 15v but it does not seem to say this on the adaptor although the small writing is hard to make out, any info would be appreciated.
Edit: I have now discovered the powergorilla has no adaptor plug to fit the Transformer but it does have a 5v USB output which would enable me to plug my transformer in but would 5v charge the Transformer?
That would get you a trickle charge ala plugging into a PC's USB2 port AFAIK. Search these forums for the DIY charger thread and you'll find how much is needed to get proper charging.

confirmed working car charger or dc setup?

As the title states, anybody have any input about car chargers or dc setup?
I have used NTK 12V 2.0a usb car dock. It does work, but it's a very slow trickle charge. If you're using it to while the Infinity is on, the battery will drain, just slower.
I'm not aware of a car charger that will build charge while the Infinity is on. Maybe the official ASUS car charger.
Alternative that could work would be to use a car AC power converter, something like DBTech 175 watt Portable Micro Power Inverter. I've had coworkers use similar items with their regular cellphone chargers. That particular may be nice since it does have a USB port, so you can charge your phone, or keep it charged while using as a mobile hotspot.

some planes, especially AA give you a 12v outlet under your seat and I have a lot of flying to do.

I've been using this package from Amazon

As confirmed by myself in this post,

Both the AC and DC chargers work wonderfully.

ok. Nonetheless, the information I gave was solid and appears to still apply to your situation.
The big thing to look for with car charger is that it outpus the 2,1a so it triggers the charging in the Infinity. The one I got does 2.0a. It doesn't indicate there's a charge, but it does. It's a trickle charge.
Ideally, I prefer to get something like the EZPower Dual Power Charger or GTMax daul port Power Charger. I don't know if these work with the Infinity. It would be nice if they did and could use both ports at the same time. This would let you charge the Infinity and another device, such as a cellphone. This is ideal for situations such as long road trips.
Ahhh, those are what I am going ot need so I can charge both the Infinity and the BIONIC.
Thanks I was wondering how this was going to work....

Aftermarket chargers and sync cables

Has anyone had a positive experience using an aftermarket sync cable or charger? I have bought a few (for other devices) in the past, but several have had issues (flaky touch screen during charging, slow/no charge).
I'm looking for outlet type, USB sync and car charger (long cord!).
Any good reports?
Search Amazon. I have had good experiences buying the cables. My cat seems like them and chews on the cables if I forget to put them away. I don't remember the brand but there is one where the cable casing is a rubber material. I think it's like 2 for 15bucks and they are 6' I think. I've had the best luck with those.
When I tried an aftermarket charger it was for the Prime. It didn't work at all but was also the first aftermarket plug being sold. Over heated and would stop charging a few minutes after plugging it in but continued to heat up. People are giving a few of them 4 star reviews. They may have gotten better now. Other than that it's buy the oem charger. I have not seen an aftermarket usb plug that can deliver the 15v required in these units. If anyone else knows of one I'd probably order one for work.
I bought some off Amazon from a brand/company called "Power +"
They work great, both the car charger and the wall charger. A bit better quality than the factory Asus charger as well.
I was looking into the same myself. I've read many horror stories of aftermarket usb charger/sync cables from Amazon, some seemed to work "great" while down the page I read other users having theirs not fit right/fall apart at the connector.
I could definitely use a longer cable as the stock cable is just too short to use from the socket to the desk, let a lone if I'm under less than ideal places like a lounge/library.

You can extend the cable with a USB 3.0 cable. (2.0 doesn't work).
I have this charger - albeit bought through eBay. I did not experience any problems with the charger itself, but the cable frayed where it meets the strain relief on the power brick after a couple of months. After taping up the connection, I am temporally using it to charge up the dock before I can get an OEM charger, but won't let it touch my Infinity itself.
i brought one real crap had to mess with it for it to work
Pwr+ Cables are awesome, They sent me one as a gift for posting a review of the ones I purchased too. kinda nice. I have the OEM cable now and three Pwr+, now I just need more power cubes. (Office Desk, home desk, bedside)

KHOMO 6.5' Pack of two
Nice length - quirky connection but works with charger and USB connection. If they made the connection a little tighter at the tablet it would be perfect.

I also bought a two pack of these. So far, I have not had any problems out of them. I also got the power+ wall charger and it has worked great.
Chargers don't work
I have bought 2 chargers for my TF700 and neither works. When the first one didn't work I thought it was because is was 2000mA so I bought a 2500mA. Is this not a regular USB charger? What is the voltage?
Thanks

The amazon links can't be able for a shipment to France.
Could someone help me to find the Cord Charging Data Sync Cable 3.0 USB to 40 Pin for Asus Eee Pad Transformer TF700T ?
Really appreciate the links here - have a need to buy another cable for my TF700
There is a protocol where the tablet instructs the charger to change to a 15v output. Nonstandard USB.

I'm currently using this one It works perfectly fine with the stock USB wall adapter and I'm really happy! It's just a damn shame we can't charge the tablet view our PCs...

Will this charger work with the TF700t?

http://www.amazon.com/KFDtech-Qualc...872&sr=8-8&keywords=transformer+prime+charger
I found this charger on amazon, it comes with a TF700t cable and CLAIMS it will work with all of the earlier Transformer tablets.
But its a Quickcharge 2.0 charger... meaning it only gets up to 12v 1.5amps and I know for a fact that the ASUS stock charger is 15v 1.2amps.
Anyways, if it doesn't work, does anyone have any recommendations for a good replacement cable? My charger is fine, but the cable got chewed up in storage and I am in need of a new one. :/
The only reason why I was considering this charger is because I could also use it on my phone. XD
