New Inspire Owner - HTC Inspire 4G

Just got this phone last night, I'm coming from an Evo. Very impressed with the phobe, have no complaints with it. But is AT&T data always this slow? I live bout 10 miles outside Dover, De and Speed Test is showing under 100 kb.
Update, I have gotten a lil over 200kb, but it's usually around 100 or less. I usually get 500-1000kb with my Evo.

I just got this phone last week too, and came from the evo as well. I like a lot more than my evo, it has more memory and I don't mind not having the front camera.
Check if your area has 3g coverage. I constantly get 2+ mbits up, but the upload speeds are really crappy. Att has disabled hsupa on these phones for some reason.
Sent from my Inspire 4TH using XDA App

That's way too low for an Inspire 4G. I know the 4G network of AT&T is crippled on these 4G phones right now and there is suppose to be an update for this phone and the Atrix to enable it, but you should be getting around 1000Kb/s. Once the 4G is enabled, the speed should go up to around 3000Kb/s.

If you're rooted I think you'll find this thread about editing the build.prop file to obtain faster cellular speeds interesting.

Im getting 3.5 down and 1.2 up on chicago, you may not be in a 3g area.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App

Yeah its looking like Im just outside 3G service. I dont know if this is gonna work. Might just have to stay with Sprint, maybe get the Evo 3D when it comes out.
Sent from my Evo using XDA Premium App

I signed up for 4G data plan with AT&T, but have not seen the speeds yet. Guess I will have to wait till the entire AT&T 4G backend is put into effect.

Yes att has disabled the upload and the downloads are changeable. Simply root the device and load a rooted stock rom, or whatever rom you would like to try. Its all in the build.prop file in the main system. I've had 1.6upload since I bought and rooted the phone. And I get 3-5download. Look at the threads, very usefull

My so called 4G is pretty sorry this evening. I'm getting 700k download and 100k (or lower) on the upload.
It's getting on my nerves to be honest. It's no wonder users want to root these phones. I'd like to get the features I originally paid for and what AT&T advertises.

Well u also was never told the exact speeds either. They are still rolling out 3g in many areas. Root it,well worth it. But they can say "4g in dover is affective" but u can hit only 1mbps. They will say "but your in 4g".

Us stock Inspire/Atrix owners are going to need to be patient as AT&T works out all the issues. I have confidence that AT&T will shine through once T-Mobile is absorbed. But they have said the 4G speeds will be enabled on these devices soon.
Just did a speed test on my Inspire and this is the first time I tested where it went over 3,000Kb/s.

Just did a quick test ... 2752k down and 345k up. Perhaps there were network issues last night.
Sent from my rooted Inspire HD using XDA App

When you guys run these speed tests, how do you have the settings set for Animation for the speedtest application? On the new version, there's a slider between 'smoother graphics' and 'better performance'. Does this really affect the download/upload measurements?

Which is currently what AT&T calls "4G" and its currently disabled out of the box by AT&T... on phones marketed with 4G in the name.

AT&T currently calls HSPA+ 4G... not HSUPA. all this says is that HSUPA will be uncrippled so you'll see upload speeds similar to iphones, nexus ones, and inspires with custom roms.
Ha, no one said this was 4G other than att.
The points that its called inspire 4g... yet 3g phones on the same network have the hsupa enabled already.
Its just ass backwards on att's part.
Its missing the "+" at the moment and it shouldnt have been released with this moniker if they knew it wasnt capable.
Its all marketing, the IMT had to change their definition of 4G to accommodate att and t mobile, but because they have an "lte roadmap" they can call hspa+ 4g.
This phone will always be 3.5g, because it is not lte capable.
It just stings as a customer and employee that they crippled this device and justified it by pricing it at $99 with an upgrade. Its one of those "whats the catch?" kinda things.
The catch is you pay them the same for data as an iphone customer, yet you are not able to get the same quality from the network... on a phone thats newer and marketed as being uber fast.
I liked that corvette example...

LOL No i was joking. This is what at&t appears to be doing to us. They released 4G phones that are artificially capped by disabling HSUPA that limits upload speeds to 300kbps. at&t claims that they are "testing" this before they enable HSUPA. It will be 2 months by the time they release the software update to enable HSUPA.

Yeah I went from the 1st gen iphone, 3G then to the 3GS. iOS is just that, boring. For 4 or 5 years, the iOS feel is the same. Same icons, same look up until the iphone 4.
Was gonna get the iP4 but then decided to get the Captivate and had nothing but issues with GPS. I got the Inspire and I am totally happy with it.
I am glad I made the switch to android. With an android phone and the awesome support and DEVs here at XDA, it just makes the experience a lot more enjoyable.

ATT testing its 4G?

As mant of us know, recently ATT announced it would begin enabling HSUPA capabilities on the Atrix and Inspire.
Ive consistantly had the H+ icon on my phone, and tried many ROMs and radios until I found the one I used now which consistantly keeps my speeds at 2-3.5mb.
Well earlier I noted an icon that showed a G instead of H+
I tested my speeds and kept getting 5.5mb or more consistantly. The phone went back to H+ and back to normal speeds shortly after.
Safe to say its coming soon?

The average customer didn't really notice that data speeds were slower until they admitted it officially. Now that the cats out the bag, I've heard some pretty nasty phone calls from folks who want their IP4 back and most of them are within 30 days.

I've seen G on ATT here on socal, very briefly, on my nexus one. it happens in certain very weak dead spots where the phone is in the middle of latching on to edge or 3G. the G stands for GPRS, which is one technology below EDGE. so its super old and slow, like 20 Kbps maximum.
I dont know then. I wish I knew how to take screenshots. I also thought the G was the old technology, but I cant make sense of it. My phone said connection unknown as opposed to HSDPA and the speeds were toying with 6mbps. Im a mile and a half from manhattan and never had a dead spot in my home. Maybe ATT wanted to mess with my feelings?

Wow thats such a weird coincidence. I was looking at this forum on my phone then I looked up and mine said G as well. Did a speedtest and got 7MBPS download. I have never seen anything past 3 in my area. Maybe they are testing it. I was promised that I would get 4G by the end of the month since I am covered by the map. Also I checked my connection type and the spot was just blank, Didn't say unknown like the op or hsdpa like it normally does. Also I was thinking maybe the phone shows G since the "new" network type is unknown so the phone dosn't know what icon to display and since G is the "first" network type thats why
Man if only i could get off of edge here (
They need to start 4G. This phone is fast, but, its much faster when its up. I bought it just because of 4G. I wonder if anyone made a big deal about false advertisement. Because no one mentioned to me that the towers or whatever wasnt up yet.

By enabling HSUPA, it just increases your upload speeds.

Post your 4g speeds and/or 4g experience.

Been heavily testing my 4g all over my city of Greensboro, NC for three days now. No signal issues, no drops, stays 4g everywhere except in my office building. All four carriers suck in my building. Even then... I still get 4g inside most of the time. My downloads blaze! Running simultaneous tests against my woman's G2... my Sensation is always a little faster.
Average bandwidth = 3 Mbs to 9 Mbs
If you experience slow latency (like the market is slow to load) go to this post for a neat fix. Mine loads everything faster now.
-edit-
Takes me about 10 seconds to fully load everything on the Engadget web site with plug ins on and desktop browser mode. This is using Dolphin HD browser. That's fast!
If you use the speedtest.net app click the results tab after the test for the true speeds. The main display seems to lie.

Oh let it go already. Even the bodies that define the term have given into the marketing hype. "4G" is said to use a term everyone knows already. The few of us geeks who know otherwise understand just the same. I'm sure you do too.
Bottom line, it's got speed, that's what everyone wants. None of the carriers reach what the original definition of 4G was to be. The carriers call it 4G, so just use the term for the sake of agreement. What the carriers originally called "3G" was not really 3G, but let's not get caught up in a side bar when everyone knows what is being asked. Either the device reaches speeds the carrier calls their "4G" speeds or it does not.

Don't get me wrong. That is the reason I said I am dumping my HTC Evo. I ran a test on tmo speeds on a g2x and I was blown away. So I figured, why the hell do I need to pay for premium data when 4G is not even available in my area since Sept. 2010.

Certain APN settings can ALSO however, affect the speed, a few MB/s at most. When I have edge, my speed averages, .50 to 1.70 MB/s. Could even be your current baseband kernel.(Flashed Radio).
