Ok first of all, please answer me this. I'm trying to upgrade from 2.1 to the 2.3 CM7. Can I do this, or do i have to install 2.2 first?
Second of all, when I hold down volume up, send, and power, and go into recovery. After wiping everything, i click on apply sdcard:update.zip, so i can get to my sd card files, and it does nothing. The screen just flashes quickly then right back to the screen. Why does this keep happening?

I flashed to the Ava rom. Looked great while i could see it. I was talking on phone it rebooted one me mid conversation to never come back. Gets to Droid loading screen then goes back to evo 4g screen? I am unable to restore nandroid backup as it is corrupt. Someone please help. Boss is going to kick my ass!!
I got out of the start-up loop by powering on using (MENU + POWER).
Enable MS/USB TOGGLE
plug phone into computer. access CD card. Delete everything on it. load SAPPIMG.nbh.
Power the phone off. Restart (VOL DOWN + POWER) click yes when it finds SAPPIMG.nbh.
That will get you out of the continuous loop, and back 1.5 (Cupcake)
noob question but how do i do menu+power?
Im just flashing back to stock rom and starting over. Well hopefully i can. Im downloading it now.

HOME button + POWER button will enable you to reach the recovery screen. From there you can toggle on and mount your SD card to the computer.
MENU + POWER was not the correct instruction. muh badd.
Im trying to load pc36img.zip. Im getting error when doing so "The Main Version is older!" Update Fail

reset your phone. power it off. press and hold volume up + volume down and power until prompted to restore. Press volume up to restore then again to restart. That might allow for android to boot.
I am a SUPER NOOB... I rooted my phone and S-Off it... Was trying to flash a ROM, did not work no my phone is stuck at all white screen with HTC across it.. Please help
if you pull the battery to turn off the phone, put the battery back in and hold the volume down button while you press the power button does it take you to the bootloader? And secondly, can you get to the recovery from there?
Yes... Now the son of a gun won't even power on...
I done did something bad... It wont even power up, or charge.... Before you ask me could I get to the boot loader screen I could, but I was jacking around with all kinda of stuff now the thing won't even power up..
How long are you holding the power button to turn it on, you just need to press the power button long enough to power the device on, but keep your finger on the vol down button until you get to the bootloader. Also, do you have the updated clockwork mod recovery installed that doesn't have the charging issue. Basically, is your battery dead?
ok now i have power...
Just please help me get my phone to come on so i can use it.. I am in boot loader now(held power button and volume down button)
go to recovery
Did it... What's next? I've tried everything on the list.. Nothing, that was before I actually posted the thread...
ok, if you are in the clockwork mod recovery, from there you need to do a full wipe, "data factory reset" cant remember the exact option. after you do a full wipe then you can try to install the rom again.
"data factory reset" did.... Phone still can't get pass that same screen....
did you re-install the rom after the factory reset? Also, the rom takes a while to boot the first time.
how can I re-install a Rom if my phone cant even get pass the screen and come on for me to get to the disk drive to drag and drop the ROM?
I am new to the andriod world, so please excuse the Noob-Ness
Ok..
When you downloaded the rom did you put it on your sd card?
What rom did you flash, and how did you flash it?
Lets start there.
**Edit**
And did you even read the following thread?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
I put it on my SD card.... I tried to flash it, didn't work... I flash well attempted to flash it from the Recovery Mode(Power and Volume down) click "install from Sd card" and click the ROM, then rebooted...
My suggestion would be to use your computer to download a new rom from the dev section. Find a usb adapter for the micro SD card and move the new rom to it. Try flashing the new rom from CWM. Sounds to me like you got a rom that isn't for the sensation. Do you remember which rom you downloaded?
InsertCoin..I think it was me.. I just might have **** something up.. I follow the direction from the guy on Thelockr dot com.. it wasnt that hard. I just F my phone up...
How long are you waiting when you turn on your phone after flashing the rom? As I said before it takes a while to boot the first time.
At least 3 mins per go.
ok, i need some help here, while running pete's motorola root tool, the program froze and now my phone wount boot. my pc wount recognize. what in the heck do i do?!!! any feed back would be much appreciated. thank you
I haven't heard of that problem before.
One thing you can likely do, though it would wipe your userdata, would be to boot into recovery and do a factory reset.
To do that you would hold down the x key when booting, and continue holding it till the android symbol and triangle come up.
Then, depending on your software version, either hit the search button on the keyboard, or both volume buttons at the same time to access recovery.
You move with the volume buttons, select with the power button.
You could try just wiping cache without wiping data first, and only wipe data as a last resort.
Hope this is helpful

Well, the only other idea I would have would be to sbf it back to stock.
The tricky thing here is you would want to know if you had the latest OTA update or not.
If you did not have the OTA update, you wouldn't want to use the latest SBF, as there is no going back from it.
If you do have the latest ota update, you would probably want something like
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1701862
That should reflash stock .629, and then give you an option to root.
If you go that method, I noticed that I had forgotten to put a line of instructions in the CD, instructing how to get into bootloader.
To get into bootloader, power off, and hold down the up arrow on the keyboard while booting up, and it should go right to bootloader.
If you have an earlier version than the .629 update, you can get any of the CD's from the Ezsbf link on that page.
That is all I can suggest.
I recently flashed a new ROM and everything went well. 2-3 weeks later my phone died from lack of charge, I connected it. I turned it on and my start up screen begins but it just stays there...the phone doesn't turn on. I've let it charge completely, and it still will not turn all the way on.
Is there something I can try? How does one get into recovery or download mode with this phone?
Start your phone by pressing volume up and power button together. This will boot the phone into boot loader menu. Then use volume button to scroll down and select recovery. Press power button to boot into recovery.
You may try flashing a diff ROM and see if it boots.

The ROM (a Hellybean version) is just not working...I reloaded it and I still get stuck at the startup screen. As this phone doesn't have an external SD card, how would one go about putting in another ROM?
Or simply, how do I go back to stock? Is there something like ODIN? Sorry the noob questions...I know my phone front and back (old Captivate) and I'm actually trying to fix this for my boyfriend. Thanks

Go into Recovery-> Mount and Storage -> Mount USB Storage, then you're Computer will recognize your phone, and will able to see your SD card, then put Rom in the Sd Card, unmount SD card from recovery, Go back, do a factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, choose zip from SD card and happy Flashing
It worked Thank you guys! :good:
