What does it mean when there is an orange led blink quickly followed by a green flash. I noticed that 4G was on but my phone was also a bit warm from being in the sun on my passenger seat.

What's the normal temperature for the battery? When my phone is charging with the Anker 5600 external battery pack, it gets to around 43.0 C, is this normal?
And when its not charging, it gets around 32.0 C.

My g2x remains between 24C and 45C. You should be worried if you are hitting fifty plus on normal basis.
My s3 overheats pretty fast, is this an acceptable reason to ask for a replacement or will they give me a hard time?

You'll provably have to prove that it does, sometimes the can be a-holes. If anything I would make it heat up a little. Watching videos usually does it to mine.
