I am creating this thread as a portal for all future articles about the Sensation to be posted to and discussed. Hopefully it won't be too long before many review units are about with the release date on Vodafone UK being "May".
This is the first post launch day hands-on I have found. It comes from the HTC Roadshow which has been in various locations around the UK (hence roadshow).
Hope you enjoy.

Generally favourable review, with praise for the screen, although it isn't as bright or colour popping as oled. Some good pictures and insight into the predictably great buildd quality
Fingers crossed the nonrootable bootloaders will be cracked by the time this appears.

Pretty thin finally
Tricolor back is a lack of taste, they should have gone with a bicolor one as protoypes were
Black level on the screen are nothing impressive
Tricolor back?!?!!?! Nooo HTC, don't go all mytouch 4G on us again!!!!!

pretty sure many colour options will be available for different exclusives for each network, fingers crossed.
everyone is complaining about the same design as the rest of the htc brood, but for me struggling along with a htc hero, i cant wait to get hold of one. wish they would do a thinness comparison with comparable smartphones, iphone4, sgs2 and a desire1/s maybe. but coming from a 15mm (!!!!!) hero, which features bevelled edges, the curved 11mm figure of this should be awesome.
anyone seen a video where sense homescreens can be customised for number of rows, seems perfect screen size for a 5x4 layout.

Another basic tour video this time from cnet.de. However the date on the phone says Mai 5 so it pretty likely the latest version of the Sense 3.0 running on the phone. You can see the UI performance and response midway into the video.
Apparently I can't post external links so go to cnet.de and look for the hands on video with the HTC Sensation. Someone please post the link please.

Yeah, that's the video but I saw it on the following page:
cnet.de /videos/tests/41552643/hands_on_video_blick_auf_das_htc_sensation_mit_dual_core_snapdragon.htm
The article was dated May 5 so I thought they shot the video recently. The UI looks like it runs pretty smoothly. Thoughts?

You're right, the phone does have May 5th as the date. My thoughts? I want this phone now!
The UI is looking much more smoother on this latest vid I agree , particularly the appdrawer is more fluid than ever
But it looks like they will keep the Tricolor back cover for the final unit :O really bad idea I can't understand that move it makes it look so less appealing than a bicolor one :/
I agree, tricolor back is ugly :-!

The photos of the heavily-rumored HTC Pyramid are beginning to surface, and they look beautiful!
http://androidcommunity.com/htc-pyramid-detailed-as-honeycomb-phone-20110315/#
MODS: I know that this is technically not the right section to post this, but a lot of MT4G users have been talking about this phone as the logical successor to the MT4G and will be interested to see these photos.
Phone looks badass!
It sure does! It reminds me of the best design elements of Nexus One and Desire HD.
The thing that threw me off is the fact that the leaked description mentioned a 1.2 gHz processor, but nothing about a dual core. Also, Honeycomb on a phone? Hmmmm.....
that looks really nice but it also kinda makes me mad to see our phone will be outdated within a few months...maybe i will craigslist my current one? (probably not but i will if development stops....
NOTE TO OP: how about a poll on who is switching?
Forget LGX2 I'm definitely waiting for this ..
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
Am I the only one around here that would rather have a slightly smaller screen? Looks like they've done everything they can to make the bezel as small as possible to make the overall phone smaller, but a 4" screen is a 4" screen.
I would've rathered physical keys at the bottom. If the black area on the back is rubber, I can see it attracting a lot of lint, but if its something like the back of the mt4g, then thats great. I hope the camera lense is more inverted tho, this way when I place the phone down the lense don't get scuffed. I also hope the back corners arent that rounded like the ipod touch, I don't mind the curves on the side corners but keep the back staight and not slanted in to the corners.
Just my .02
I am so switching over. I can not wait. I have another upgrade waiting so I'll use that and get the Pyramid. I can NOT wait! I hope it comes out within 2 months. I am really getting bored of the myTouch and hate the design of it.
Sexyyy, the back that is lol (dont even know if thats funny but it sounds weird when i say it so...)
The front is kinda plain but more ugly. guess they couldnt really do much with it. Think im sticking with my MT4G. in no real need to "upgrade". i more just like the big screen and camera. honeycomb is ehh right now but it might change. I probably need more reasons to change. either way still pretty happy with my MT
Looks pretty slick, but can't really tell till I can feel it in the hands.
Ill probably make the switch, kinda bored with the mytouch. May trade for the g2 , or hold off for the pyramid.

The poll is up!
I don't think that the MT4G will be outdated when the Pyramid is released. Unless app devs begin developing exclusively for phones whose specs are better than those of the MT4G, it'll stick around for a while.
I hope not neither but still the development for this phone is still slow. About to go on to a Windows 7 phone, been playing with one at Bestbuy and it looks pretty smooth and nice.
I'm definitely getting this bad boy if it comes to tmo
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
This thing is ugly, I do not like the look of this silver-brown mashup... And the "photos" pretty much look like photoshopped..
I think this is where I will draw the line with my Nexus S
Think the only thing that would stop me from getting this is if that 4.3 made it bigger over all then my mytouch and if it's not going to be on t mobile.

I thought it was supposed to have a dual-core cpu?
Don't expect HTC to come out with dual core. By years end quad core will be out. HTC should most likely go for that. Some article I read in the sense gingerbread leak they found traces of the omap processor which is most likely the omap5 which pretty much is beast compared to the a5.

Why do they keep saying Honeycomb? Honeycomb + Gingerbread = IceCream, Duh...
Google even said so.
But I think I'll wait for IceCream to hit my Glacier.

try colorize widgets made by an xda member and has awesome widgets use to be free not sure if it still is.
also here is a list of the lg widgets from optimus x2 that are compatible.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1046267
Launcher pro plus has a whole set of widgets that are very similiar to the Sense widgets. You can resize them also so they don't take up the whole screen.
Two options for you..
Colorize widget and Photo contacts widget. Not sure they will work in the stock launcher.
Photo contacts widget has been much better in my personal use but not better than the LPP widget.

Launcher Pro has the most htc sense like widgets, the dev has built in many widgets that almost duplicate HTC's sense widgets. Also, you can get fancy widget for free today from amazon app store. It will do the same thing the weather app does for weather animations etc..
1+ Launcher Pro
It has a friends stream which combines Twitter, Facebook, gmail, sms, etc.
It also has separate widgets for each (which is what I use).
The latest version you can also theme them, which is awesome. I'm using the "Clouds" one. Sweetness.
Launcher Pro is the best!

i already sent the g2x back, spoke to a rep from t mobile in the customer loyalty dept , and i was told the sensation is coming out by the beginning of june and maybe maybe i can get it on line earlier then that ,will b using my android hd2 till then
yeh took about year of development for the hd 2 to be in its current stable...I got the phone when it was still under window os I wanted to throw that **** out the window every other hour it crashed,
On the other hand the g2x hasn't given me any major problems yet other than the battery life but I had to suffer a similar scenario with the hd2

Sensation uses qualicalm old rusty chipset architecture. It will be a nice phone don't get me wrong, just won't be able to do what tegra 2 can do in the right developers hands. yeah thats what people said about the hd2 6 months ago ,and now in my personal opinion is by far one of the best phones i ever had , there is always going to b better phones out there its all about personal choice, in my case the lack of the led notification light, the narrow screen the bleeding of the screen, the lack of interest by developers and especially my personal experience with 2 different devices made me decide to wait for the sensation besides i can always go back to the g2x ......

i agree. i bought my hd2 day they came out after 6 or more sold out stores! but yeah it took a while for the development to get caught up and you can do almost anything to an htc phone. i like the g2x but my heart belongs to htc and i love sense roms. the front camera isnt quite as nice as g2x but i believe it will be a monster once the devs get a hold of it. the hardware is impressive even though its slightly older technology.
but you are talking dual 1.2GHz chips and more ram.....i think they will both be insanely fast once development gets in full swing. just my.02

Yes. The only exception was the N1 that added 720p but it was capped at 30 FPS i believe? Not sure.
But the NS is missing a hardware piece that allows 720p recording.
Edit:
Considering one of the lead Android devs said on his twitter that 720p recording is not available on the Nexus S due to hardware bandwidth limitation, I tend to believe him.

When i rooted my epic and used Simply AOSP ROM i didn't have a complaint besides the phones bulk. I wish it were as easy as ripping off the keyboard underneath
but yeah, the nexus is a much more fluid device all around, but the camera blows
I have had an Epic and now NS4G and i would not go back. TW framework made the Epic slow and the battery was atrocious in comparison to the NS. To each their own, but you aint takin me back there....IM NOT GOING BACK!!!!
Nexus may not be the best at any one thing, but the total package beats almost every other Android set on the market.

id say the nexus is a decent and very stable device. It excels at getting the job done without hesitation and i really do like that.
thinking about the 720p camera from the epic compared to this standard camera, i've come to conclude the nexus is a DEV phone and not ALL android phones are high-end with high-def capture ability. When you have a dev phone, you want to develop and test on it and be assured what you have created will work on virtually ALL android devices... so it makes sense why they would have done that. I just miss having amazingly detailed pictures a lil
Pretty much. I toy with my phone too much to care much for all the OEM overlay stuff. I had my Epic for three months and now my wife has it. It is a great phone and the pictures are very nice, but I do not take a ton of pics and normally have a point and shoot on me anyway, which does 720p and has great quality pics, so my phone is always the last resort.
I like the hassle free goodness of the Nexus and the abilty to "just get the update now". I am an impatient SOB more than a camera phone snob.

More than likely...One of the benefits of having four lines on my Sprint account is annual upgrades...I was offered a free upgrade to the EVO3D and am turning it down, because I want a dev phone. I will wait on Nexus 3.
I don't miss the buggyness of TW but you have to admit the added functionality it offers. I sold my SGS because I was so frustrated with the limitations and now that I have the NS I have to admit, this is the fastest phone I've ever used period. Even out of the box! I was a bit hesitant thinking it would be a re badged SGS but I am amazed what good software can do with hardware. Nothing like the SGS at all.
this vid is the same experience i had with the sensation and thats why i got rid of it! watch the video , and man talk about screen bleed! check out 1:42 i am glad to own a g2x i love this device, there is too much complaining going on. this phone is definitely the baddest

I agree, there were too many people whining about the screen bleed that was never noticeable in normal use. My wife hasthe sensation and while I think its one of the better phones I am glad I stuck with my G2x also. Screen bleed is pretty bad and battery life is way worse than the G2X. My main problem is how flemsy it feels. The back of the phone comes all the way off to get to the battery which leaves a bunch of hollow space between the top cover and screen. So when making screen solection the phone smooshes like a sponge and creeks lol. The [email protected] feels like a much firmer phone imo.

Unibody designs are a terable idea and contribute to its poor WiFi performance. Both HTC and LG have been added to my list of manufacturers I will not buy from for atleast a year. Neither one of them know how to optimize or create drivers for their devices. To give you a little hint of how much Sense brings down the hardware on the Sensation.....After deleting Sense and the rest of the bloatware and running a custom ROM, my Quadrant score jumped to a score over 3000. Really the only manufacture UI that doesn't lag a phone out is Touch Wiz. I give props to Samsung for that.

I went to my local Tmo store fully intending to purchase the Sensation off contract. I wanted the larger screen and higher resolution. The crappy screen quality was a major turn off. I visited four different stores and the result was the same. Washed out blacks and poor color. Combined with all the other major issues the Sensation has, why would anyone switch? It is slower and the quality flat out sucks. Doing a little reading on Sensation forum tells me HTC is outsourcing their screens to the cheapest, crappiest manufactures available. HTC screwed up big time by going cheap on the screen quality.
HTC Sensation = fail
I hope they get it together because I loved my HD2 and expected better from HTC.
Isn't it a qhd screen? I came from att and an atrix which had a qhd screen...while the resolution was a lil better it was a crappy screen. Washed out. Color reproduction was terrible. Yellow looked brown. Coming from a super amoled it was very disappointing. I would have to say I think the ISP display is the way to go. It has a good balance of color and brightness. Black levels are not as good as amoled but at least whites are white and not yellow

I just sold my G2X on Ebay and I took a pretty good hit on it. I lost more money on this phone than any other phone I've ever sold.

Are you bored and just enjoy being a troll? The Sensation is crap. You must be blind. The screen is the worst I have ever seen in a high end phone.

And your right dr.phil and that's my point lol. I shouldn't have, it was more of a development aspect in I saw and heard a few respective devs going to sencraption. Yes yes again, regardless of who develops for it, my real world experience saw that to be crap. So I'm back to the g2x regardless who bashes it..
Any more questions phil?

Is the G2x you stole performing better than your previous one?
I'm happy with my G2X. I haven't had any problems with my phone. I guess I'm one of the Lucky ones.

I don't mind the screen at all. I was one of the lucky ones who got the Sharp display and not the Acer display that most people are seeing. The Sharp display is much better. Although, I really could care less about contrast or color reproduction on my 4 inch display. Where I do care about contrast is my 55 inch LED TV. I care more about text clarity on my cell phone since there isn't a day that goes by that I'm not reading blogs, ebooks, email, SMS and websites. In fact, after looking at my Sensations display for a couple days, my G2X display appears blurry with jagged text.
The only thing I absolutely hate about this phone is Sense. Which is exactly why I deteleted it. However, even when Sense was there, the Sensation still loaded and interacted with apps faster than my G2X and the gamd I play on a regular basis looked better as well.
In the end, I chose to use the phone that I liked better. I tried liking the G2X since I spent money on it and got the Sensation for free but I just couldn't anymore.
I was about to go back to the G2X because the phones UI lagged with Sense but then it got S-Off and after Sense was removed, the phones UI became as fast as my G2X.

Just wanted to say bye to my friends i met through the sensation. Its been an extremely fun ride, from s-on to s-off i've been through all of it. I work at verizon now, and ever since i touched the galaxy nexus, i knew i had to have it. Most of you don't find it as a huge upgrade from the sensation, and when i agree to a certain extent, the galaxy nexus, is well, a nexus device. I never owned one and now that i finally got a job i am buying one. been with android since the g1 and never have owned a nexus and now that i have the opportunity to actually own one, i will (especially since im getting it for 437.48 USD off contract for gsm ).I hope i see all of you on that side as well. Later guys.
wow $400?? where did you get it so cheap from... is it a secret

Not at all. Just with selling my sensation, thats how much i'm coming out of pocket.
Congratz! The Nexus devices are awesome...My N1 still rocks!!
I always wanted a nexus one, and still want one now, but wouldn't dare ask my folks to come out of pocket 600 for it.
Pictures side by side with the Sensation or didn't happen!
I was just going to post one of these! See you all later as well, just got my nexus

In the same boat, got my Nexus over the weekend. I think it's a slight upgrade, made more pronounced by the direct-from-Google-Software and the development community. Dont get me wrong, the Sensation has a pretty good Dev community (compared to the anemic Epic 4G, which I originally came from), but the Nexus devices always get the latest and greatest earliest.
Good decision and good luck! GN is a much better phone than the Sensation IMO. I'd like to make the switch too but I have to ride out the rest of this darn contract. Transformer Prime for me instead.

i would rather have this issue than the issues im having with mine. it could be software and most likely is since the ONLY good thing on a samsung phone is the screen xD i do love my senny though.

The "bug" with the Nexus One wasn't really a bug. The touch screen that they picked wasn't really capable of real multitouch. It was only capable of doing a certain multitouch gestures like pinch-to-zoom. So it was a hardware limitation, not a bug.
Hopefully this time it is indeed a bug, and could be fixed with firmware/driver update.

Having owned the Galaxy Nexus (HSPA+ version) for a week, I can't say if I like it more than the Sensation.
The biggest selling points of this phone is the screen and ICS. The screen is definitely gorgeous. Best screen on the market, period. But it is a battery hog. My GN's battery life is noticeably worse than Sensation's. And "battery usage" tells me that 50+ % of the battery usage came from the screen.
While ICS is more polished than previous versions of Android, it just isn't polished enough. For example, the ICS contact app has WebOS/Sense-like feature that integrate your contacts' various accounts info into one place. But it doesn't do it automatically. Some of my contacts are listed as separate contacts (with the same name). Unlike Sense, it doesn't automatically ask me to merge the contacts all at the same time, and I had to join them into one manually (Click a contact, press menu, choose edit, press menu, choose join, choose which one to join. And if a contact is listed more than twice, you have to do the above to merge each of his/her account).
The ICS dialer also lacks the T9/SmartDialing feature in the Sense dialer.
The camera sucks. The zero shutter lack is a gimmick. Yes, it shoots fast, but most of the time it doesn't auto-focus properly before taking the picture. Also, you can't set ISO manually, and there is limited options of manual control.
Lock screen is a joke. While they advertise that the camera app is now available from the lock screen, so that you can access quickly, this doesn't work if you have set a lock-pin/pattern/face unlock. With Sense, even if you have a pin/pattern set, you still have the Sense lock screen with quick access when you turn the screen on. On the GN, once you set the pin/pattern, that's what you see the first thing you turn the screen on. You don't get to see the camera app quick access button.
And of course this phone have the usual Samsung design language - very plasticky. To be fair, it feels better than a lot of plastic Samsung phones. But still, it feels cheap and fragile compared to the Sensation. I dropped my Sensation once and scratched the metal case. I'm sure that my GN wouldn't survive such a fall.
The phone isn't really faster than the Sensation in openning and running apps. It feels faster because of the newly implemented hardware accelerated UI. Scrolling is noticeably smoother. The only exception is the browser. Webpages load really quick. I'm not sure if this have to do with the TI SoC, or the ICS browser is just significantly better. Texts don't get reflowed after zoom-in though, which is one feature that I really miss.
All in all, I'm not sure if I would keep the GN. Sensation + ICS could be a much better overall phone. I maybe much better off holding onto my Sensation until next summer for some other ICS phone with a better camera and a non-plastic case.
In my opinion the GN feels very cheap. The Sensation is far better there.
Turn the screen to its lowest brightness, you can see some darker lines across the screen. Once you noticed that, you see it every time - a no go for me.
On the other hand, it is very brilliant, and a bit sharper, but I like the Sensations more.
Battery sucks, Android.OS has mor consumption than display.... weird.
I will keep the Sensation, too bad it has only 768MB RAM, but I think its enough.
too bad..you should've waited when they release the list of the new devices coming in 2012
Will miss you greatly...so sad to see all of these sensation people leaving...the sensation is still a pretty damn good phone guys...have some fun with the nexus.
Bye bye! Hope all goes well for you guys with the GN!
I got pretty attached to the Sensation. ^_^
