Boot Animation - Android Zaps Apple :-D - T-Mobile LG G2x

I found this boot animation in another thread (can't remember where I found it as I've been using it on multiple phones now). To install this copy the bootanimation.zip file to the /system/media folder. NOTE: You will need root to do this.
Here is a youtube link of the boot animation in action (I did not shoot this video) http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=US&client=mv-google&hl=en&v=FZkADy9-Xcg&fulldescription=1
Sound has now been added on to this boot animation courtesy of Wewoapsiak

Yes I used Root Explorer. You have have mount the /system/media folder RW

I made a sound file to go with this boot animation, this is the first time I've ever tried anything like this and I used Audacity. It plays decently well on my G2x, sometimes the end gets buggy for some reason. Oh well, I'm attaching it and if anyone wants the original test file I made, I'll email it to you. In the file is a .mp3 file so you can listen to it first, and the .ogg file that you put in the /system/media/audio/poweron folder

Way to go man!! That sound is perfect. I tried it out and it works beautifully. You just made a great boot animation even greater.

I can't get the sound to even play after Unraring it.
Okay got it to work. Anyway you can grab that bad Android opening scene?

Ooooh. Ok. I'll play with it some this week after my tests. I'm also trying to find out if there is a way to test these things on my laptop so I don't have to push to phone and reboot a million times just to get sound synced just right.

Ok, here it is. I added some images, and tweaked it a bit. If you don't like the image at the end (the thumbnail I attached above) remove the images 155 and above. On my G2x there is a bit of lag / black screen at the end, tried to fix it but never figured it out. It only lasts about 2 seconds, maybe it won't be happen yours. I've packed the .zip and .ogg in a .rar file, just place the respective files where they normally go. Hope you like it.

Is there a way to load this without using root explorer?

I use Android Commander. http://androidcommander.com/ You have to have root access, and the it's a bit weird right now since we still have an S-On image. It needs root access, so I just run 1-click root before I use the program. Probably an easier way, but I'm too lazy to find it right now.
You could also probably use Astro.

I used Super Manager in root mode and it allowed me to copy the files.

That was awsome!!!
When I have some free time I try that out on my phone.

I tried installing the new boot animation and it installs but only goes thru the ANDROID name then my phone starts up. So the whole animation never plays. Whats the deal. Its like my phone boots up too fast for it to play all the way thru

1)Curious...Are you running CM7? I haven't reinstalled this animation after upgrading, but I have noticed my phone boots faster.
2)So are you saying the sound isn't syncing or it's synced, it just gets cut off early? I'm guessing it's the second one, but I'm asking just in case.
3)Try editing the desc.txt file. It should currently say:
480 800 200
p 1 0 part0
p 0 0 part1
Change it to this first:
480 800 200
p 1 0 part0
p 1 0 part1
If that doesn't work try:
480 800 200
p 1 0 part0
p 0 5 part1
I'm sorry I can't try it out myself, I won't be able to work on such until the adb issue gets fixed in the CM7 nightly.

Steps To Changing Your BootSplash Screen.

I have a custom boot animation and boot up sound now i am very interested in changing the splash screen. I don't want my phone to boot up and say LG
Is there a tool or a command prompt input that will allow us to change it to whatever we like. I know i'm not the only one who would like this.
I am also looking for information on how to do this on the g2x. I've tried other android guides and command prompts but nothing has worked for me so far
Copy it to your phones sd card amd use root explorer or something similar to name the file bootanimation.zip and copy it to /system/media ... Make sure to back up the one that's already there in case you need it.

[How To] Boot Animations

Figured while we are waiting for some custom roms, we could still get a little custom action going on. I got tired of sprints boot animation and started playing w root explorer. Need root access, and a file manager that has permission to write to system folders.
You may want to back up the original sprint_bootanimation.zip to another location before copying any other files, just in case you want to return to stock. I ended up losing mine in a wipe, once I got it back I figured it would be a good idea to have one posted for anyone who needed it, see below.
Below is a link to the Razr stock bootanimation.zip (most 960x540 animations will work, as well as several other resolutions, play around and see what you find and like), rename it sprint_bootanimation.zip and copy it to /system/media. After it is moved change the permissions to rw-r--r-- , should be able to do this by long pressing the file. The other is an OGG file (do not rename), also copy this to /system/media folder. Voila, you now have the stock Razr boot animation whenever you boot your phone, sound and all.
If anyone would like to post some more stock or custom animations below, feel free.

That's odd, I assume you granted root explorer su permission. Maybe go into system settings, apps and clear data in root explorer? If that doesn't get it try es file manager, open menu, settings; close to the bottom of the list is root settings, check all the boxes. It will ask for su permission & you should be able to do it then.

Just a thought. Did you hit the Rw/Ro toggle in the upper right hand corner when you were in /system? People sometimes for get about that.
@OP, Here is a Pro-Tip that I have been using for a long time on a few different phones if you like to swap bootanimations a bunch.
If you drop your "custom" BA in /data/local and set permissions, it will boot up when the phone does. By doing it this way, you can test out as many BAs as you want and all the while your original in /system/media is left clean and unadulterated. I have collected a bunch over the years and have them on my sdcard. Another trick to put them in folders to easily copy over into /data/local at will. So it would be sdcard/MYBootAniations/Clockhell/bootanimation.zip or sdcard/MYBootAniations/RollerCoaster/bootanimation.zip.
Sometimes, I will drop one in my wife's /data/local and then the next time she boots up BAM!!! She is pretty saavy at these things, so it is shortly after bootup when I get a text or call.
Nice, thanks for that, I will give it a try.

[Q] Change Boot Music?

Hi all, I am wondering how I can change the boot music for the GS3. Which file do I need to change, and what do I need to name it?
I apologize if there is already a thread. If so, please link me. Search isn't working for some reason for me.
/system/media/audio/ui/poweron.ogg
Either change it to a ".bak" extension to stop it from happening. Or delete it.
Or make your own sound file with that name and replace it.
Sent from a GlaDos baked potato
Edit: poweroff.ogg above it is also your shutting down sound. I renamed the cameraclick.ogg to silence the camera when making single shots.
Hmm. I tried it, but it didn't work. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I've been trying to figure this out all day. I've tried many methods and none seem to work.
Just worked fine for me. I took a sound from a zelda soundboard I had already saved as a notification tone with the app (chest appears.ogg). Copied it to /system/media/audio/ui/ and then renamed it PowerOn.ogg. Rebooted and sure enough the zelda sound plays.
How long is the music you are trying? And when you rename it are you capitalizing the P in power and O in on? That is probably important to do.
Sent from a GlaDos Baked Potato
Edit2: just used Ringdroid to cut an mp3 of Gangnam Style to a notification. Used first few seconds of the song. Then used a media converting app to make it an ".ogg" format. Copied to that /system/media/ahdio/ui directory. Renamed it PowerOn.ogg. And rebooted. My phone bumps Gangnam now fine when I reboot.
It's 14 seconds long. I put it through ffmpeg media encoder to get to to ogg (I also tried an online encoder with my pc), then copied it here. The screenshot is attached.

Noob question, but do this require ROOT or just a specific app to access the files to change.

Yep. To be able to access the root directory and make changes to the system folder you need root permission. Then a file explorer app like Root Explorer or ES File explorer to move the file there and rename it

FWIW, I've noticed that simply removing/renaming the sprint_bootanimation.zip (the yellow sprint animation) from /system/media and leaving the bootanimation.zip (the red moto logo) sped up my boot time a bit. It appears that the phone will run bootanimation.zip followed by sprint_bootanimation.zip. I haven't tried removing bootnamiation.zip because I don't like a plain black screen during boot, even if it is a second or two faster. Plus I haven't found a boot animation I like yet to replace the stock one.
