[Q] Adobe AIR or Mono-Droid? Anyone care to share some opinions on either? - General Questions and Answers

Greetings folks,
I am a graphic artist/ui developer for a software company that is really wanting
to move into the mobile space for its visualization application that my team has built.
We are currently C#/Silverlight developers on the front-end; however, being a graphic artist I am very familiar with Flash CS5.
Our first app out of the gate will be an Android app. So my question is about "best" options ("best" being subjective of course) environment to work with.
We have looked at Mono-Droid, and currently that is the front-runner... but my question is more about using Adobe AIR for Android app development... I would like to use AIR - just from a personal experience perspective.
Anyone with any experience with either method have any opinions to share?
(Sorry for the lengthy post)

Anyone have any experience with MonoDroid specifically that they can share some tips about....

[Q] New app with

Newbie post!
We've come up with our first app---uHeart. It does a nice job controlling or manipulating the camera, display and vocalization functions. I post here because I think this forum might especially appreciate seeing what my coding partner works through the Eclipse plug-in for Android. Is he any good? What do you think? How could we make it better?
uHeart on the Android Marketplace (or linked below here)
Let us know what you think or how we can improve. All feedback is welcome, particularly if it is constructive.
Thanks, S

[Q] A question to any developer willing to answer...

I wasn't sure where anything like this would go, so I made sure to put it in a forum as general as possible.
I'm a beginning web designer, but seeing as I spend most of my free time on this site, I'm growing more of an interest in learning to code for the mobile platform. If anybody is willing to help, all I'm asking for is a few tips from developers here on where to begin.
I learned some very basic java in college, but was wondering if there is a better path to go on. Do I start with BASIC? Do I continue and go towards more advanced Java and stick with only one programming language?
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
-Considering I've done almost everything that I can with my rooted EVO, all of you were the people I'd rather hear from. I appreciate all of the hard work that you all have done!
You can develop full market apps using the language I use called basic4android.
Its easy to use but very powerful, produces a native android apk (so no interpreters) and has regular updates.
There are free user contributed libraries that make it even better and it has been used to produce everything from live wallpapers and anti theft apps to games and gps software so is a good option to consider.
I wrote my first app after messing about with it for about an hour and was amazed how easy it makes things. Google basic4android and you will find its homepage for more info. I can't remember the address as it's saved as a bookmark on my pc not phone.
EDIT: did a google search and its at http://www.basic4ppc.com/

[Q] Making an Augmented Reality Android App

Hello, This is my first post on XDA and I am sorry if this is the wrong forum for posting this question.
I am a computer engineering student and I willing to make an augmented reality browser for android as a graduation project(something like Layar and Wikitude); however, I want to make it from scratch(without using any Augmented Reality API like the ones Layar provide), I want the application to be smart and to be able to detect stuff through image recognition and back it up with locations provided through GPS and I am willing to use Google Maps API for fetching Points of interest and other APIs for different uses...
I have very basic android programming experience and average java programming experience. I am going to work in a group of two and I have a 10 month period to make the app.
The question I hope any of XDA developers would help me answer is :
Can it be done or do I have to look for another graduation project? If yes, what materials(books, tutorials,...) should I start searching for if I want to make this project better?
I appreciate any help regarding this question...
Sorry for my bad English...
Sounds good.
Yes, I do think it is possible. And by the way, great Idea for a project. I know someone in my university that did something similar. And seeing as google provides image search, you could borrow google's service for that image thing you mentioned.
Augmented reality is becoming a massive business and it will be interesting to see what you come up with.
Sorry if this isn't what you wanted but this is all my experience in augmented stuff combined to answer your question. But nothing is impossible. As a heads up This project may be a lot of work.
What computer languages do you know?

Thank you so much for your assistance. I have an average knowledge in Java and C languages. If it is not much trouble, can you ask the person who did it in your university about the best resources to start with in order to achieve a good application.
Also, Thanks a lot for the great tip about using Google image search.
Will do when he gets back from China . Haven't seen him for nearly a year. Apparently he is doing some sort of martial arts course.
You finished the work or you chose other subject for the degree project?

[Q] Making android app for Ajax chat - any documentation?

Hello everyone,
I'm looking to make android app for this Ajax chat we have on a certain forum. The chat is MGC Chatbox Evo. Basically, I want to connect an app to the chat, like you do when you fire up a browser.
Now, my programming experience is very out of date, so I'm looking for some documentation (noob friendly if possible) on this. I've searched google all over the place, I found a couple of tips, but those aren't very understandable for someone at my level.
Here are the questions I'd like to cover:
1) In which language do I write this?
2) Using what compiler?
3) Where can I find documentation related to making something like this?
I'm a bit savvy, so if I find a way to do this in one programming language, I'll probably find a way to do it in another, but I can't. I've never made an android app before, but I'm very eager to learn, so all and any help is appreciated. Of course, if someone has time and desire, I'll gladly work with you on this and learn that way. Forum has 600,000 registered users, and you would be free to take all the credits for it.
Thank you for your time
Have a great day!

[Q] IOS development HELP

hello to you all.
I have a few questions regarding the development of ios app. I have no knowledge of this, I do know how I want the final product.
Now I know not all that I ask is probably legal, but this is of course only question
Is it possible to combine several different apps available in the appstore for a common app
app should in theory not be sold, but only serves to make my life easier. so must the app not going to lie down in the app store
Should the device (iPad) jailbreakes for this to be done?
the developer must be present in order to be able to program, or it can be done far away from me. We're talking about apps that are made for home automation.
can anyone help with a bit her tongue in my thoughts?
it would be super cool if there was someone who had the time and energy to look at my plans and see if it was realistic?

Hi Peter,
Well your idea is not quite clear to me. From whatever little I understood from your post is that you want a home automation app that is a mixture of many different apps available in the app store. As you clearly know that duplicating app designs without proper permissions is a crime. There are many home automation apps already available in the market. Having said that, if you still want your app to be custom-made to suit your needs, I can help you. I am an iOS developer new york and have built quite a few home automation apps. We can make a custom app suited for your needs. If you can elaborate your requirements, it would be possible to chalk out a plan and see whether your plans are realistic or not.
