Rooted my phone a few days ago using the toms-world.org "one stop-shop" guide...
Then after having an issue installing a new ROM I restored it to to a point just before I rooted it. Used the same exact procedure as above, and it seems like everything is working like it should, up until I try to do anything that requires permission. It appears my phone isn't rooted, no matter how many times I try. It can't find the su dir. Any ideas?
Have you tried reflashing the su zip? Maybe you missed something? Honestly you should be getting some kind of error unless you're just missing a step I would think.

I have, several times. I've gone into cwm and reflashed it, and it will say "installed successfully" but will leave me with an unrooted phone when I boot it. I'm trying to avoid the pain of trying a clean wipe of the phone...

Mount /system in CWM under "mounts and storage" before you flash su.
Download super user from market kill all proccess aka task manager run a root program should then request root access hope this helps if not sorry ...

Lol..nice.
OP you need a backup of your efs partition and even then you're not guaranteed a working fix.

First thing you need to do is take a while to read and learn about what you are doing before you make things worse. There is no avoiding this. You shouldn't do anything if you don't know what it is you are doing or what people are telling you to do to fix whatever happened because you didn't know what you were doing. It seems to me an answer or possible solution was just posted for you.

"I don't know or understand how" isn't an excuse when the answer was handed to you. It is up to you to take the advice or not. And download the needed files onto the PC you are using to post with, then transfer them to your phone via the instructions posted in the post above. Read, learn, and follow directions and you should be OK. Good luck.

Hi!
I am new to xda. I hope that someone will find time and answer me. I have rooted my nexus s (4.1.2) using this metode from the site of nexusshacks. At first everything seemed to go OK. But no I have superuser installed on my phone and when i update it it says that my phone is not rooted. But i still managed to install custom rom (strawberry) and it works. But every thing that needs root premision i cant use. Not titanium backup nothing. Can somebody help me. At tutorial it's said that i need to do flashing twice and it will be ok but it is not. And now i am afraid to anything. I would like to unroot phone instal stock android (not any rom) and than do it again.
Pleas help me!

You don't need to re-install stock. You probably don't have the binary installed properly and that's why it's giving you trouble.
Simply flash either SuperSU and SuperUser and that should be fine.
You can get either one from here:

I wouldn't know, it would be better for you to ask in the Strawberry thread.
A lot of problems can be fixed simply by reflashing either the rom or the kernel. You could try reflashing Strawberry without wiping anything and also after that fixing permissions. Good luck.
Hey guys. me again................sadly. here's what happened. i placed a few custom roms on my sd card and tried to flash them unto my infuse 4G using the three finger salute with the factory wipe/cache wipe method. my phone is rooted(thanks a bunch to u guys) and i started getting E: signature verification failed or failed to verify the whole file with all of them. even my original update zip and recovery (3e). seemed just to not work. i rebooted and now i cant retrieve my backups,my wifi refuses to connect and continuous pop ups of whats not workin on my phone anymore are rampant....especially google play. even superuser even tho the app is there it shows errors as well. please tell me what to do to fix the problem......i really want to experience ics and jelly bean and im stuck wit gingerbread and it seems like i missed a step or a download somewhere. also recently my phones memory is being chewed up. jus like that i have 26,32 even 40 apps running. mind u i did not activate them......please help

sooo please tell me what going on right now, what is the state of your device, you are able to get into recovery correct? its not the stock recovery which is recovery 3e. it turns on but allot of the apps are not working. so since the signature verification failed, you are going to go to (this is assuming you have CWM NOT STOCK RECOVERY) install zip from sdcard then toggle signature verification, and try to reflash the rom you wanted and since the google play store isent working on your device you need to flash the gapps. it needs to be the version of android the rom you want to flash. (gingerbread roms dont need it but ICS and JB need it) just google gapps and look for the android version of what the rom is.

At one point he let on he didn't know which recovery he had installed and then he let on he may have CMW. Unless you have something to actually contribute to this thread or a valid question, I'd appreciate it if we just don't communicate with each other. It's a waste of space, which drives up server costs and i don't much like you.

well your going to have to wait untill you have computer you have admin rights for.
I don't want to make a really long post so I'll get straight to the point:
I own a rooted ALCATEL OT-991d. So today I was scrolling through App Manager when I saw Google Services Framework. So the thing is, after the root, my phone started having errors I didn't have before. My download notifications in the System UI from the Browser and Google Play wont vanish. I'll press clear and after a time it's all going to vanish but after a few minutes or after I open Google Play it just goes back again.
So here's the problem: I thought that Google Services Framework was the culprit (I know that was very stupid of me. Now I know what it is for) so I deleted it. Actually I hesitated and cancelled the operation but it was too late. So I tried looking the solution up, but to no avail. I downloaded 3 types of the said Framework but it wont install. I kept on getting the "Application Not Installed" Error.
So now I did a Factory Reset. So everything worked fine, except for the Setup Wizard. I was able to set the language and such but when I came to the "Set Up Google Account" part, it kept of crashing (because Google Service Framework is already gone) thus a fruitless loop. Now I can't even use my phone at all 'cause I can't bypass the freaking Setup Wizard.
Any tips? I can't buy a new phone at the moment so I'm at my wits end here.
I'm sorry for the long post and if I violated anything, it's because I'm quite new here.
My phone is on Android 2.3.6. I didn't have a chance to check the baseband etc. 'cause I never knew this would happen. But if you guys need it I can check my sister's device since we have the same phone. Thanks!
Update
Okay I found a solution..
I want to install a new ROM but I don't know how. I downloaded something like an Android 2.3.6 ROM and when I try to install it it says the signing failed blah blah. Help? Do I have to wipe the phone of its stock ROM?
Can anyone provide me with a working ROM for Alcatel OT-991d? Stock ROM's fine.
Thanks!

When it says zip verification failed its because you need to install a custom recovery like Clockworkmod or TWRP in order to flash custom ROMs
And Mate, Always do some searching before asking a question! There's already a guide on xda-developers teaching how to flash the stock ROM on Alcatel OT-991d
Anyway, I hope your phone works! Good luck
