I think I've reduced my reboots/screen-off crash - T-Mobile LG G2x

I'm sure I will still have reboots/issues like others because LG obviously knows of a bug in the phone BUT...in the meantime it appears I've reduced the reboots by uninstalling one bloody app.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.androidapps.widget.battery
I didn't use the widget but just the notification icon that shows battery %. I know this definitely has to have something to do with my earlier issues because prior to this I was getting freezes (screen is off and won't turn on without battery pull) and reboots quite frequently.
Since I uninstalled this junk, I've used the phone heavily and so far *KNOCK ON WOOD* it appears to be more stable.
Right now I'm sitting at 18h of uptime. Like I said, if I can get 4-5 days of uptime before a reboot I can live with it until a fix. But I can't have the thing reboot/freeze on me multiple times a day - that's not acceptable.

I'm using guage battery widget as I did on my Incredible without issue.

No no...I did. I UNinstalled the Battery Status - Donate. That was causing problems on my phone. Not sure where the confusion is. I linked it so people can see the exact app.

So no crashes today? Did you receive your replacement yet?

Just rebooted while sitting idle on desk with wifi on and wifi calling enabled. So after 25 hours which is not bad. Better than before. The hunt goes on.

back light bleeding
ur back light bleeding is not an issue its something for u to ***** about. if u don't like it take it back or turn down the brightness. its not that bad unless u text in the dark with ur nose to screen which in that case you are a douche bag. sorry to be so harsh but u could have looked at a demo model before buying and *****ing it gets old. do ur research it is still a better screen than the samold line other than the deep blacks that they are very much ahead of the game in regards to that on the samold.

I see. Updated original post.
New version of the beta out, looks much better but has some issues with swype
is there anywhere to get the app for android since the beta stopped working for everyone today
I have the newest version which is build #0.9.9.1 and it's got the shut down button to truly close the app finally lol but they took out the ability to use voice notes which was cool... kinda like what Palringo has!! hope they put it back! it's still in beta so im sure before it becomes final they'll polish it up good!!
I just Confirmed BeejiveIM is using C2DM(Google's Push notification Service)! My EVO's battery is crying with joy. I can now leave it running in the background with barely any battery drain! HOORAY!

Reading ABD logcat at first, then I noticed it actually shows it when you're installing the app and it asks for permissions. "Allow app to use Cloud to Device Messaging" under Network use.
Also notice that when you open it, it takes a split second to "update" your buddy list(Unlike eBuddy,Trillian and all others), proving it wasn't doing anything in the background.
I wouldn't let the 100% uptime keep you from installing this app. I am literally online the whole day and have noticed no major impact on battery life.
can you PM the link or how to get the APK for the latest beta?

I dont see how the 100% wake time wouldn't have a negative effect on the battery. Its not letting the phone sleep. Isn't the purpose of push technology to let the app sleep in the background and only wake the app when there is data to be sent?
MSmith1 said:

First of all, my phone does not keep a 100% wake time when using Beejive. Even if it did, you need to understand what your phone is actually doing and what Android reports as "Wake time". Android can report your phone as "awake" while using 0% cpu and 0% network--Draining the same exact amount or even LESS as if the phone was being reported as "asleep".
My point is: People take the awake time too seriously. It's there to help you understand what app might be draining your battery but absolutely does not mean your battery is being raped. The system is really complex so it can and it WILL sometimes report your phone as awake, even though it's not draining any battery at all.
MSmith1 said:

Yes. But like I said, Android sometimes reports the phone as Awake just because the App is sitting there-While using 0% CPU and 0% Network -- The phone is effectively asleep. It's using a push connection, and when a message comes in it will use some cpu and some network--effectively waking up the phone, using some battery.

Reboots!

So I've had the phone since 4pm yesterday. I use uptime widget on my phones for kicks and to check for stability issues so I installed it right after I got it.
The phone was up for 7 hours until around 11pm when I rebooted it myself (to fix a unknown my phone number problem). It came up fine. 30 mins later it rebooted itself which i didn't think much of since I thought it was invoked by a SIM update. Since after the 2nd reboot it correctly showed my phone # in Status and my Messaging app, etc.
All is well, on the charger overnight, wake up this morning and use it everything is fine. At almost exactly 8:30AM while sitting idle/screen off it reboots again?!
Not sure if this is due to the tons of apps I have on or was again a network related reboot. I know in the past when I had GSM phones, the carrier can definitely initiate a reboot due to a SIM update. Having it happen at exactly 8:30AM seems bizarre. It's super fast and no lag or crashes otherwise.
I'm going to use it more today and keep an eye on it but just FYI. Anybody with it experiencing anything similar?

Could be because of me. I had Wifi Calling on both times and I had changed the network mode from the Auto default to WCDMA only. I'll get to the bottom of this, I'm sure
Check out this review of the GSlate by PC Mag. One of the cons is "occasionally reboots." I think LG has some 'splaining to do. This is their second device (third if you separate O2X from G2X) to suffer the problem.
Pros
First 4G tablet. Powerful Tegra 2 processor. Excellent HD screen, with HD output capability. Shoots and plays 3D footage (glasses included). Affordably-priced (after rebate) for 32GB capacity. Generally intuitive user interface. Dual-facing cameras. Video chat.
Cons
Default Honeycomb home screen feels cluttered. Flash 10.2 beta is buggy. Strange, off-center orientation for front-facing camera. Occasionally reboots, unprovoked, when idle. Android Market needs more Honeycomb apps.
Strange how LG could be causing this on both devices since they are both stock Android! My Moto XOOM with Honeycomb has it's issues as well because it's an early OS but having occassional reboots on Froyo 2.2.2 is not acceptable.
I'm hoping it's related to an app or something. Once more people get the phone we should be able to see if it's an isolated or widespread problem.
Its definitely not the LG's custom UI that is causing random reboots. I really hope its not the hardware!
Update coming soon hopefully?
http://translate.google.com/transla...alligevel-problemer-med-optimus-2x,lid.15324/
That's the 2X right? Doubt the same update will apply to us but here's hoping. Anybody else with a G2X having this? It could just have been me and the phone being provisioned. I've had it for less than 24 hours.
Lets not jump to conclusions just yet.. My phones have rebooted due to my doings, lets see if others have the issue first before blaming the issue on this phone too.
Just received my G2X today and have experienced the random reboot thing twice in about 3 hours.
Will keep an eye on it today and report back later.

Don't worry me like this! My phone is arriving tomorrow! Also when you guys got your phones did you plug it in and let it fully charge before playing with it? I know it would be hard not to just turn it on...
Just rebooted again while I was walking the dog and listening to a podcast so first time while I was using it. I think it might have to do with GPS use. The CNN app I installed last night uses it a ton and I think it causes the issue.
Anybody else having this using CNN or another GPS heavy app.

Could someone answer these two questions please?
1. How's the battery life after the upgrade?
2. Can it be rooted? Is everything such as bluetooth ADP working fine?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
On my 3rd G2x and it has been solid cept for a few things, such as GPS taking up to 20 minutes to lock, apps being unable to be moved to SD-card, whenever adding an app or widget to the homescreen would lock up the phone for a bit and would take up to 5 minutes to pull up a list, eating through a battery down to 40% after a full charge within 3 hours of light use.
Granted I fixed almost all those issues by rooting it and applying fixes I discovered through this wonderful forum. From the GPS fix (it locked within about 20sec-3minutes, much better than before) and the pre-opt-dex patch that was put up here which totally helped when adding apps/widgets to the homescreen(3-10 seconds compared to the 5 minutes). To some battery monitoring apps and charging techniques that helped me get the best out of my battery, which saw a full charge last about 9 hours before it squealed to be plugged back in.
Now with Gingerbread finally installed the GPS lock is virtually instant, the apps/widgets are likewise, almost instant. The battery seems to be a bit better. I took it off the charger at 4pm and its still at 25% at this time (12:49am).
As odd as it seems, I look back and am thankful for the buggy G2X. While I really liked my Nexus One, I never really delved into the community much. It was a solid phone and never had any problem, save for the complete lack of space to put apps on it. The buggy G2x lead me to this wonderful forum which was full of people with helpful opinions and great tips. Through the assistance of everyone here I learned a lot more about the Android system and about phones in general. Coming from a big PC background (I like building and fixing them) I liked that the Android OS provided me with similar work around that I did when working on PC's.
So, while the initial experience with the phone was nightmarish, in retrospect I really learned something, it's good to know that there is a group of people dedicated to making sure we get the best out of our phones and freeing us from the shackles of the providers limitations on the phones (rooting rocks!!)
A note to T-Mobile and LG. Why did you rush this phone?!?! I would have gladly waited till July for a fully functional phone. Without Gingerbread this is one of the most powerful phones in the universe, with Gingerbread it can now take advantage of that power. It's not like the competition was putting out anything much better than the MyTouch4g at that time, yes the Atrix, but that was a buggy nightmare too. So what if the Sensation beat this to market, this has stock android, an arguably better (supported at least) GPU, and is rootable. I would have waited. Look right now, for my criteriahttp://blogs.computerworld.com/16755/android_user_interface for a phone my options are currently the G2X, Nexus S and....can't really think of anything else... So seriously, coming from a Nexus One, the obvious choice is the G2X. I would think that a decent chunk of the people reading this would agree.
same here
I was one of the lucky ones to have a G2x without issues
stock phone not rooted, update went thru without problems and the phone feels snappier; I do miss the original LG camera app though
It's good to hear everyone is happy with their phone...now I won't have to read about everyone jumping ship to the sensation.

[Q] Anyone else having some issues with the S6?

Got the phone yesterday, and playing with it today, I'm noticing some issues with the phone that I hope can be corrected, because I'm kind of regretting the purchase.
First off, auto brightness turns itself off constantly. Every few minutes. Browsing facebook, twitter, etc and going nowhere near the controls, all of a sudden my screen with double the brightness for no reason, and when I check, auto brightness is unchecked in the pulldown menu. VERY annoying.
Opening links in Hangouts or Google Messenger to Chrome occasionally lags the phone out completely, or the click registers and does nothing.
I'm hoping that this is either a defective phone I can have replaced, or something fixed with a quick software update, but it's aggravating to deal with. Jumping from the Nexus 5 to a non-AOSP phone has me hesitate enough, and this isn't helping.
Edit: Just remembered, I turned off Samsung's keyboard and I'm using Google's official keyboard, and the Samsung keyboard keeps enabling itself! It's not actually switching to the Samsung keyboard, but I'm literally sliding the switch to "off", and it's sliding back to the on position on it's own accord.
Can confirm, auto brightness turns off automatically.

Do a hard reset. Chances are that all of the issues will be fixed.
Touch wiz lag is awful after installing all of my apps. I'm also wondering why I have to swipe to unlock even when it's set for just fingerprint.
Couldn't say anything about Touchwiz, as I'm using Nova Launcher. Only get lag when I'm clicking links, as mentioned. Going to do a factory reset and see what happens. I REALLY hate doing this without Titanium Backup, and Helium was buggy as all hell. For the initial setup, I ended up manually installing all the apps I had on my Nexus 5, which was a pain in my god damned ass.

I'm not rooting until they either confirm tripping knox won't affect Samsung Pay, or there's a way to root without tripping it at all.
So I just did a hard reset, and of COURSE there's no way to keep your storage intact when you reset (**** you Samsung), the device switcher won't work with the Nexus 5 (Again, **** you Samsung), and I had to redownload every app by hand. As much as we ALL hate Apple, iTunes backup & restore is SORELY needed on Android.

I'm not seeing much lag if at all, but I WAS seeing the issue with the Auto-Brightness, until I did a hard reset.
Battery issues are pretty bad, but it seems to just need a software update, or an updated radio. The Cell Standby drain is strong with this phone.
Of the lag I did see, my phone actually froze up, gave a snowy image on half the screen, then crashed. Only happened once, so I'm not worried (yet).
One thing that's annoying the hell out of my though: Swiping the notification shade down takes a few tries, and sometimes clicks dont register. I never experienced this before on other phones, but I've noticed it happens more when I hit things with the sides of my thumb vs touching it flat. very odd.

its not about getting calm, its not the first time a samsung flagship lags when they are released, we always say they will release an update to sooth everything up, but it never happens...do not try to convince your self that the phone is perfect...you have to accept facts, believe me i really, really hope they fix these bugs and lags....because as i said i am planning to get a new phone in two weeks and the S6 is the only option...

Stop making assumptions. The phone isn't even released yet in most parts of the world.

ONE person mentioned lag. ONE. Most people in that thread said they didn't see lag. but there you go saying "OH NO, Samsung has done it again!"
Again, it's not even released yet, the phone has bugs. RELAX and let this work itself out.

Wassup original. Yeah seriously. I think maybe its got to do with my setup but I'm not 100% sure. I'll take a look again. But if you got suggestions about it then let me know. The more help I get the better.

I'm 100% certain it's some app or process that's running your battery down.
Facebook and Facebook messenger are awful on battery. I normally use xda(legacy) app but tried this newer one and found it eats my battery (sorry guys).
Look at your battery usage (settings/battery) and make a note of who is using what.
Greenify works wonders.
L Speed also works great as an all around tool (read up on it)
Most of us are starting to measure our battery life in X hours SOT or screen on time. You can have 1k hours of battery life but if aren't using your device that doesn't really count.
My daughter has issues with all those silly messaging apps the kids are using now. They chew on your battery all day.
Check your battery usage. That should point in the right direction.
See how much just this xda app has used in over 2 hours. I opened the app to respond earlier to this thread and that's it.

The new XDA App is also a market. I see your Google Services is high at 13% also. I am guessing you have a few updates pending. I wish Google would fix that drain rather than force us to update apps to get rid of it. So my guess is the new XDA app is checking for updates as soon as you open it and causing all that usage.

Possibly. The newer app consistently logs me out. And although it's very pretty, it seems to be all over the place. I think the "help us better..." part of the app is also a culprit.
I will say the newer xda does a better job of notifying me on mentions and quotes.
set from this device using this app....
