I think I posted this in the wrong place earlier:
A friend just bought a tablet here in China preloaded with Android 2.1. Its setup to be used in China, which has given me problems in the past on my Android phone. Is there anyway to go about updating it to the new version of Android and maybe even getting rid of the Chinese app store and adding flash support (right now it says the device doesn't support it, even though it looks like it meets requirements)? You guys have been helpful in the past so thanks in advance for any advice.
Did you try connect the Onda-Vi10 customer service?
How about they said solve about this... In China, i remember my friend told me they also improved the Android at a fast speed.

Hi,
Sorry if this has already been answered, but I have looked in as many threads on here as I can find and none seem to answer my question.
I'm looking for a 2.x rom for a Garmin-Asus A10. I'm from New Zealand and the carrier branded handsets here are stuck on Android 1.6. I have a few colleagues who are having issues with this handset using exchange, and according to some research, 1.6 is a bit crap at handling exchange.
What I am hoping to do is flash a 2.x rom to one of our demo handsets and do a side by side comparison of the handset running 1.6 and 2.x. However I am unable to find a rom to do this with...is there anyone out there who is able to provide any kind of 2.x rom for it at all?
I'm not just looking for a quick fix for someone to do this for me, I'm interested in getting in to rom development but cooking roms is a bit over my head at the moment.
Any help would be awesome, and again, sorry if this is a noob question, I just can't seem to find this information anywhere.
Cheers
open market firmware update garmin asusu A10 eclair
Dear A10'ers,
The Danish site of garmin-asus left the front door open to get 3 firmware updates through their site.
One of them is the open market "softwareopdateringer". Click on the link and cancel 4 times and you'll get the install software, by unpacking it you can see that they use XML code to download the update file from the garmin site.
I hope that this information gives a true hacker the opportunity to make it possible to use the open market version for a branded telephone to be updated to 2.1.
Greetings and good luck to you all,
asdfghjklµ
Is this the only way to get a 2.1 rom? I figured all that would need to be done would be to extract the 2.1 rom (I know, probably not quite that easy) from an existing A10 running 2.1...
Can someone correct me if I'm wrong?
Edit: I just realised by "open market" you are probably referring to a rom without carrier branding. Do all A10s running 2.1 have carrier branding or have I completely missed the point here?
I was searching for this as well and it looks like they have updated it on there site but you have to do a bit of digging to find it. Its a Telecom rom as well so its official. I cant post urls as I am new here but got to garminasus dot com. then click the location on the top right making sure its set to NZ. Its then under support - software updates. Instructions there as well. Nice christmas present
Oh that must have been very recent, I have checked up on that regularly and it hasn't been there. I'll have to have another look, thanks for the heads up.
Almost the whole reason I haven't switched from WinMo yet is because of garmin mobile xt. I procured it in 2008 but they don't sell or update it anymore but the new maps still work albeit the .exe is 2.5 years old.
I asked a couple times about this and never got a competent response, but if that garmin android software that I can't buy because Garmin and Asus are retarded could be ripped from a ROM dump I'd commission it. Asus makes my mobos but HTC makes my phones. Also, in rural areas of the United States Navteq maps get me lost less than TeleAtlas does. And I like garmin's trip configurator, GUI, and routing engine. In before "use GMM...", usually when I need GPS I'm in an EDGE area or no service whatsoever, so it's nice to be able to navigate without worrying about AT$T's crappy network not existing properly.
Rooted Garmin Asus A10 Need ROM
Hi.
Got a few questions to a man with a bigger brain than my self.
First of:
Just got my Garmin Asus A10 rooted with SuperOneClick - Great tool btw.
I've installed setCPU, set the min+high freqz to 600mhz - hoping on a better benchmark with Quadrant but the result where actually lower then before the root and freq settings.
Second of:
What am i doing wrong?
Do i need a ROM? - If Yes, then what ROM should i use?
Third of:
What about my Kernel, do i need a stronger heart to my 2.1 Eclaire.
Hope to hear from someone.
System information:
Rooted Danish Garmin Asus A10 with a contract @Telenor - Denmark.
Firmwareversion: 2.1-update1
Kernelversion: 2.6.29 [email protected] #28
Buildversion: A10-V5.0.69-user-20101022
If you're wanting a higher clock speed you will need to flash a custom kernel. I'm not sure if there are many developers on here who have made kernels for this phone, but as far as I'm aware, that's the only way to overclock.
A custom rom may help with the quadrant benchmark score, but I have been unable to find any custom roms for this device. I don't know if I just have been looking in the wrong places or if rom developers just aren't interested.
I'd be interested to hear how you get on. I just updated one to the official 2.1 Telecom XT build today, definite improvement all round. Prior to about 2 days ago they were all stuck on 1.6, which inspired my quest to find custom roms for it lol.

sMy Sentiments exactly! I bought my first winmo phone in 2008 and have been stuck with them purely because of the GMXT software that it can run. However, android OS has proven itself as a stable mobile system now, i would like to migrate to a green man platform, but am stuck with my Acer S-200 running GMXT on a modded rom. Can anyone extract the Android installer (CAB/APK) file out of the GarminAsus A10 rom, and post it? this would help us Garmin Mobile XT aficionados make the final plunge into the Android Phone Market.

I agree. I have Garmin XT on my HTC. I was loving the idea with the Garminfone here, but couldn't afford the $899 price tag it came with retail. waiting for a bit for the prices to come down on TradeMe...

better yet, step by step Instructions For Androids
I am newbie here, and planning for new android phone.
One of my friend got X10 without Android from India for few bucks less, shopkeeper said he can come again anytime to load the OS (which will be chargeable-same amount he deducted while buying). He was using his phone very well without android, unfortunately lost his phone. I really don't know what OS it was there on phone (stock or other).
My question is
1. Is it possible to get a phone without android, and if yes then what will be the OS on that?
2. Is it possible to flash/load Android (suitable to that specific device) on such device by our self?
Thanks in advance.
I think your friend got one of the infamous counterfeit phones.
Perhaps it had the Chinese ripoff version of Android on it.

I bought an RCA 7" tablet as a manager's substitute for a Xelio which was out of stock at WalMart. Hey, $39 seems like a pretty good deal.
However, there is no mention of this device ANYWHERE, not on the WalMart website... apparently, not even the great Oracle Google has heard of this device. There are some obscure references to google play support. It is NOT the new RCA TV Tablet or the stereo one.
From the device:
1GHz processor
built in 4GB memory
WiFi b/g/n
Google Play Store
0.3 mp forward facing camera (woo hoo)
micro sd support up to 32G
Model number RCT6077W2
Android version 4.1.1 Jellybean
Kernel version 3.0.36+
[email protected]#129
Build number RCT6077W2-Android4.1.1-v1.0.1
I would love to figure out what else is hiding under the hood on this device.
Need help unlocking/tweaking. Not sure if I'm in the correct forum.
I AM A NOOB! First step is admission...

Thanks T'zul. Actually the tablet was $80 but I got it for $39 cuz the discontinued Xelio promised was out of stock when I got to Walmart.
I have not been able to locate drivers BECAUSE the tablet is only being released officially next week so I haven't been able to connect for root only to transfer music/photo files.
Yeah, I know that the specs (I listed them above in first post) are lower end but I thought it would be a good toy to learn on/destroy if I wasn't careful.

im sure if you root it you can most likely overclock it and stuff, cheap android tablets like these are always good to start on before you get the big boys that only last a year and then they are outdated. as for the drivers you can try adb and install the android drivers.

Microphone on RCA 7" rct6378w2 Issue
Sorry to change the subject a bit but I am in the correct company, since I have the same tablet bought from Walmart last Black Friday $49. I find the microphone performance very bad. A screeching sound (like feedback) and extremetly low volume on recording using voice recorder or Skype (echo test). Has anyone come accross this issue and got a suggested fix? The tablet is not going to be very functional for video conferencing with this issue. I though i would ask the forum before returning it.
Thanks
Ashok

I rooted my tablet (same tablet) as you instructed. What are you doing/using to move apps to the SD card? I'm using lucky patcher but it is not giving me the option to move to the SD card. The SD card is mounted. I'm not sure what to do and am getting very frustrated. Thank you in advance for your help
Please provide organized instructions for completely exploiting the RCA tablets
Hi I am new here, I got this tablet for christmas and this forum has helped me so much already, because of you wonderful people I have successfully rooted. However after continuing reading I am a little confused on what exactly to do now, can someone please go over unlocking the bootloader, getting clockworkmod recovery or whatever else I need, flashing cyanogenmod for the RCA tablet and any other steps I might not know of? How can I help and where are we all in completely exploiting the RCA tablets? (RCT6077W2 in specific for me) can I get regular drivers instead of that annoying pdanet? would it be possible to flash other ROM's like AOKP and paranoid android or would those lack in support? what do I have to do w/ the android sdk? what apps, launchers, root apps and exploits do you recommend with this device? how can we overclock and make the best out of this crappy device? any tips, cracks, modifications that make this device better? etc. I know it is a lot of questions but any awnsers and help is really appreciated and It would also be really nice if someone made a nice n00b friendly guide on what to do after rooting.

This absolutely a really good questions. As many people bought the 4 or 8GB versions with plans to expand to external SD card; I hope the moderators / seasoned android pros of this forum can provide a detailed explanation how to accomplish this task. Thanks in advance to all that offer some suggestions / solutions towards the SD card front.

I also thank you for the rooting steps. How can I now upgrade the jelly bean from 4.2.2 to 4.3? I have the same model tablet.
My Only Hope.
I thank you for your response, Jeffrie.* But unfortumately, it did not contain any new information for me.* I am beyond a factory reset. Wiping the data and dalvik cache was actually what killed the tablet after I had actually revived it by flashing the RCT6378W2 firmware to the RCT6077W2 tablet. And I only did that because after days of searching, the internet, the RCT6378W2 firmware was the only RCA tablet firmware to be found.* And at first it seemed like it might work, the only obvious issue was the tablet couldn't tell which way was down.* That was doable.* However after a reboot, the wireless functionality stopped completely.* Wireless couldn't even be switched on.* I could send you numerous links to numerous forums where there are several other consumers with the same issue. And as it stands most of those people feel ripped off and very skidish about purchasing any more RCA products.* I am confident, from the way the 8GB tablets firmware helped bring the 4GB one back from the dead,* that the actual RCT6077w2 4GB tablets original firmware ( 1.0.0) would revive several of your tablets as well as the customers satisfaction and faith in your company. And once they were up and connected to the internet, they wouldt be able to update using your OTA server. Word of your companies actually giving a damn and level of support would surely boost sales as well as bring former customers back.
I know how
I rooted my very own RCT6077W2 (same specs and everything) and got it from Wal-Mart. I know how. Download 4Shared from Play Store, create/login to an account, search up "master root", then click the first one and download it. Install it, then open. I know its in a diff language but click the middle button and then when the screen pops up with the buttons, press the one that is not red. Then again. Once the boxes are away, reboot your device and it is rooted. Congratz, you now have root access.

hey do you by chance know how to hard reset this rca tablet im trying and cant find out
Hi, I'm new here and totally layman. Being naive, I bought an android phone from the cheap clone brand Note40Pro. The description was promising: 10-core, 5g and Android 11. However, the device worked very slowly and after a system check I noticed that the android version was 4.4.2 and not 11. Moreover, I could not upgrade. Because of this I am also unable to pay contactless and get modern apps. I think only a root operation can solve this problem. Hopefully the forum can help me with this, otherwise I'll toss the phone in the trash. Thanks for the support.
Return phone to seller and request refund - because you got cheated.
