Music pauses when taking a photo with camera app? - Captivate General

how do i stop this from happening? Its very annoying.
BTW I Am on Serendipity 6.4 ROM so I don't know if its cause of that?

It pauses the music because the picture gets saved, causing the media scanner to run, causing the phone to stop the process of accessing media files.
I don't really think there is a fix for it besides not listening to music while taking pics.

Actually, I'd like to correct my initial response... I can take pics and listen to music with no pausing at all. I'm on Cog 4.1, but it might be because I have all my music files saved to my external sd, and all my pictures saved to my internal sd, so I'm assuming that when I take a pic and it saves it, the media scanner only scans the internal sd, leaving the external alone. I'm also using the NRG media player if that makes a difference. So I'd say try saving some music to your external and there should also be an option in your music player to play music from a certain directory, so change the directory to the external sd> music and see if it works.

Yes it's about the player. I downloaded Winamp. It can play music while using the camera.

Music app

OK so I want to use the stock music app (music player) so I mounted my phone and made a new folder called music on the SD card(internal)
Is there any way to have it see only that folder? Rite now it shows all music on phone including ringtones. I normally just would run a shuffle mode.
Thanks

Yea I'd like an answer to this one to. I poked around a little but couldn't make it work.
(BTW OP GM for the win. Nice!)
Do you have your ringtones in a folder titled ringtones? I did this on mine and seem to remember them not showing up in my music player when I was using it.
I (and many other people with the captivate/galaxy s) have had issues with the stock music player, although not directly related to the issue you mentioned. I believe that Meridian does what you are looking for, but doesn't look quite as nice as the Samsung app. I can't check because I decided I liked the look of tunewiki better (it doesn't have the ability to choose your folders.)
Yes ringtones and notify sounds have there own folder.
I found a apparently that seems to do it pretty well. Mixzing. Only shows my full lenght songs
Still if someone know a way let me know

I'd also like to know how to fix this. I have stuff in my music player that's like... my photos? I don't want to use an alternative because I love the little pull-down interface on the locked main screen for controlling the native music player.
Oh this is easy. Just open notepad, choose all file types and save a file called ".nomedia" without quotes, and with period. Then put that folder in all places where you dont want applications to grab media. I put it in my ringtone folder and my gameloft folders (because gallery was showing game photos)

stock music player wont play in background

I have read on other forums where users report that their built-in default music player stops as soon as they switch away from the screen and others say the have no issue. So I guess this is a mysterious bug. It's driving me nuts. Any ideas in trouble shooting this?
no help here
Sorry mine won't turn off no matter what buttons I push. Matter of fact I can't figure out how to truly turn it off, all I get is pause. Without advanced task killer it just sits in the drop down menu, waiting.
I do have the other bug with it though, I can't sort by artist with a lot of music on there. 25gigs, hit artist and it crashes and says not enough memory. There is more than a gig free on both the internal and the external cards. Bummer.
As of today it now plays in the background. If I can figure out a rhyme or reason as to why it wouldn't before I'll report back.

Mine always played in the background. You must be confuse with stock video player which can't play in the background for obvious reasons.

Nope, no confusion. When the program "Music Player" is launched a task manager shows that it is running but if the companion program, (whos name I cant remember) is not also running then the music will not play in the background. The companion program is launched by Music Player when an audio file is started. It has a similar name to Music Player. I believe it is named Sound Player and it has the same icon as Music Player.
If you start a playlist or album or whatever in the stock player and hit the home key it will show the music player now playin in the notification bar (where you can pause or skip songs. If you go back into the program and use the back button all the way out the program closes.

Ok, now I know how you get confused. Sound Player and Music Player are two different apps. No, Music Player does not require Sound Player in memory. Sound Player can't play in background while Music Player can.
The only way to launch Sound Player is to use My Files File Explorer and open mp3 or other sound files directly. On the other hand, Music Player can only be launched from app launcher and it offers following additional features:
1. Support albums and playlists.
2. Support 5.1ch playback on headphones
3. Support playback on the background.

That was some odd notations I made while I had a task manager installed last week. I just tried what you said and you are 100% exactly right! Phweeeh thats a relief. I was worried it would go back to not working later. Thanks for the insight.

My music player shuts off when I launch the camera app. Gingerbread I think you found a legitimate bug.
Does anyone have a replacement for sound player (not music player) that can run in the background? I'm sick of having streaming podcasts end when I need to do something else with my phone.

I think that people who have very large music collections will find that the player shuts off when they go into certain applications. My feeling is that this is Android's internal memory manager subroutine figuring that the audio player is eating up way too much memory, most likely due to the database being loaded the entire time the player is running, and deciding to close that one program rather than ten others to free up the same amount of space. How much memory does your player eat up while running?
The Sound Player is opening instead of the Music Player
On my Vibrant, a .mpga file used to open using the Music Player but now the Sound Player is opening instead. My phone is completely stock, never rooted and no aps downloaded, but I can tell which player is opening: after the player opens, I close it and then press and hold the home key to see which program just opened by noting the first program name in the list of the 6. (The two player's interfaces look almost identical so it is easy to think that the Music Player is opening when the Sound Player is the one actually opening.)
Some possible clues to the cause: I had just used the sound recorder for the first time. It creates .amr files. The .amr files showed up in the Music Player's playlist, but the file wouldn't play; so I browsed directly to the file using Files, clicked on the .amr file and the Sound Player opened the file. But now the Sound Player its opening .mpga files instead of the Music Player and my Music Player's playlist is now empty. (At least that is what I think the sequence of events were.)
I imagine that resetting the phone to factory default would fix it, but I'll have to learn how to backup my address book, web favorites, and goggle map starred items.)
I posted here because I believe I have detected accurately what is happening (maybe not the cause, but the fact that the wrong player is opening), and you experts might be able to suggest a workaround or get the bug fixed.

The mp3 must be in the music folder on the sdcard in order for music player to play in the background.
Not true. I've had music in other folders that got pulled into my music library.

Try force a media scan to see if it fixes your Music Player playlist problem.

[APP] Rescan Media (by Aditya Talpade)

This app is able to disable the mediascanner at boot. which would probably make the bootlag a bit less annoying for some people.
you can find it at market, just search for "aditya"
remember to download the root version, as the regular one can't stop the service.
also, usb-debugging must be enabled.
i have no idea how this will impact the folios performance, but it's worth a shot.

Edit: i'm really sorry... this was meant to go in the folio 100 subforum. i guess i'm extremely tired :\ please delete as i will repost it in the correct forum.
Wonder why this media scan toggle app is disabling my ability to view pictures in gallery as well as the music player not showing any songs at all, even my mp3 ringtone in the music player is no longer playing and no longer an option under settings>sounds>ringtones ?
In other words, I thought that this app only stopped scanning/rescanning of media which would be GREAT but it not only stops the scanning, it also disables me from viewing any pictures in gallery and disables me from playing songs in Music Player and to top it off it also disables my mp3 ringtones when the phone is sopposed to ring.
(so with this app enabled my phone does not ring unless I select a built-in ringtone)
Perhaps I am doing something wrong or I just don't understand what this app is really intended for?
HELP! (I do want the media scanner not to scan unless I turn it on)
BUT I do want to be able to use mp3 song ringtones and want music player to play my mp3 songs and I do want to view all my pictures in the Gallery.
If I NEVER restart the phone this "rescan Media" media scanner app works as advertised
but after rebooting the phone it not only disables the media scanner but it also prevents me from viewing any pictures or videos in the gallery plus in Music Player no songs show up at all........
My phone is a Samsung Captivate using Froyo 2.2 firmware.
Thanks!
I don't have any problems with it.

a few mp3s wont play in froyo

Right now i am using a motorola triumph. out of my big library of music, there are several songs that won't play in any music app i use. says this type of audio file is not supported. this also happened on my Optimus V before this phone. same files. every one of my songs is mp3, so thats not the issue. I tried cm7(gingerbread) on my triumph for fun to test, and THE SONGS I HAD PROBLEMS WITH ACTUALLY PLAY!, but froyo is more stable as a main phone right now so i am back to froyo, but wish i could play these songs. any ideas?
I have the same issue. Have you tried WikiTune? I was having this issue last weekend and installed that. It seems to work but haven't put it through the ringer yet. I've also had it play a song half way through and then just stop.
plays fine on my computer and my ipad, just not on 2.2 android
Third party applications are the key, lol. Are the songs you're having trouble with perchance ones that were just added to the sd card? In that case, you would be due for either a rescan or a reboot.
Otherwise try some third-party apps, and consider running the troublesome mp3 files through a media converter on your PC. It can't hurt...

This is a pretty good one that I use. It has alot of features. https://market.android.com/details?id=com.tunewiki.lyricplayer.android&feature=search_result
A factory reset should help, you can try poweramp also.

HELP! music library not updating!

Hello everyone, I have an issue with my nexus 5: when I copy a song to the music folder in my nexus 5, the music player doesn't refresh unless I rename the file (for example by removing and rewriting the same letter) or move it from my file manager. This occurs with google play music app as well as any other external player from play store.
Please help me figure out what I can do!!
You may not be giving the player enough time to scan for media, it does not occur instantaneously. First I have heard of this.
Try restarting the phone or clear the cache and wipe the data for the app.

Nothing changes if I clear the cache/data, instead if I reboot the phone the songs appear in the library.. but I don't think it's normal that everytime I transfer a song I have to reboot my phone! :/.. isn't there a way to manually refresh the library?
If you are just using music stored on your I would recommend a different player besides Google Play Music, but if you have music in the cloud/ device I would use that. Google PLay Music just acts strange I think for music that is on the phone, like sometimes it just doesn't recognize that it's on the phone if you have "all music selected" vs "on device". I recommend poweramp or if you are on a custom ROM apollo is pretty good and comes with a lot of ROMS. Back to the subject at hand I think that it has something to do with the mediascanner settings. Check those.
It's something to do with copying the files from PC using a wire. I WiFi my songs over using Es file explorer and have no issues with Play Music local play back.
