Gonna have to say I've had my phone for around a month now and I'm still impressed.. I had posted my initial thoughts and comparing it to my EVO and I haven't changed my mind much. I'm loving the battery life.. compared to my EVO I can definitely last a solid day with medium use and not be worried about having a charger around. Pixel density still slightly bothers me.. but I'm accepting it. Speed wise seems as peppy or peppier than my EVO.. I had loaded many roms to improve usability and esthetics on the EVO and other than the MIUI interface I'm liking Samsungs take.. or yet mildly unfettered Android 2.2. I am excited at getting to load MIUI on this. It's great that at stock this phone is as good or better than my custom rom'd EVO in most aspects of at least how I use it. It also feels great in the hand....
I think the only phone that's gonna stand out enough that I'm gonna be tempted will be the Palm Pre 3... other than the lack of apps for WEBOS it's the best bloody mobile OS out there.... Period!
Good to see that you like it. great phone!

i agree with you... my brother has a EVO and he himself said the other day your phone is better... Only thing that bugs me was the TW but i DL the Launcher Pro and it made the phone look better... Oh and a kick stan would of been nice to watch videos on this nice screen...
BTW i like the joke you made about WebOS lol...

I have to completely agree, there are a thousand threads in this section about how people hate this phone blah blah blah.
I happen to LOVE this phone, as a matter of fact, its the best android phone ive owned to date. Much better than the Evo. Im not buying any new android phones unless its super amoled or better, Ill take the super amoled on this phone over an LCD any day, even with the sub pentile matrix..
Cant wait to see the galaxy s2. I cant imagine a phone operating better than this with a better bigger display.
Not a fan of the TW launcher, but launcherpro fixes that and makes thing much more speedy anyways

I agree with you man cant see my self with a phone with a phone that dosent have a screen as good as this phone... And yes for a bit there in the biggining i hated this phone and talk smack about getting the G2x or the EVO 3D but then i thought about it and its not the size that matters is how you use it...
Only phone that could make me drop this phone now would be the SGS2 or the SGS2 3D( it is coming just sit back and watch )...

Samsungs Touch Wiz the "eye candy" on top of the stock Android 2.2 we running...
On a side note the sound on this phone kicks the iPhones 4 and EVOs @ss... 5.1 thats all i got to say...
And the screen on this is like a Lambo compare to other phones we are running laps around them...

Well I'm glad I posted .. good to hear others liking their phones as well.. thought I might get lambasted but thought the s4g deserved some respect.
Man it's good to see this kind of thread. The "Samsung sucks, vibrant sucks, sgs4g sucks" threads are getting old. I can understand where people are coming from but that doesn't make it any less annoying. I loved my vibrant and the only reason I went to the sgs4g is because tmobile offered it to me w/full upgrade discount (because of gps issue). I sold my vibrant for $300 on ebay. I have to say, so far, I'm glad I did. I am a little worried about internal storage, but that's nothing a nice new shiny rom won't fix.
I love the speeds. At my house with the vibrant I was averaging about 3.5mbps. Now in the some spot with the sgs4g I avg 9.5, quite often I hit 12.5.
I hope the vibe of these forums stay with this type of attitude, and we don't get like the "vibe" of the other forums.
I look forward to what's to come for this phone with some voodoo! That would make this phone perfection IMHO.

right! you dont need the voodoo fix on the gs4g, it uses a different memory architecture than the original vibrant.
as far as internal memory goes, look in the dev section for a thread called rom deleted. There is a small fix that will free up about 250+ megs of memory available to the system. Its called the FOTA fix. Works like a charm, it gets rid of the files that are housed in the system for the automatic updates.

That's what I've heard, but it still seems a little laggy. Does it not to you? Like home screens and opening menus. And I know quad scores don't "mean anything", but it's getting half what my vibrant + voodoo was. It just doesn't seem as zippy as ext4.
On the FOTA fix, is that something that we may need at a later date, or is it easy to just add back.
Thanks for the help.

get rid of TW, its slow as hell compared to Launcher Pro and other 3rd party launchers.
As far as the fota fix, im pretty sure well be fine without it as once your rooted youll want to wait for roms from the devs once cwm is working anyways
I just recently switched to Go Launcher and have put the other lanchers away.

So I have a G2x sitting in my shopping cart on tmo(not upgrading paying outright so no contract extenstion) and I'm faced with a huge choice. Do I buy the LG now or wait for the sensation? Like sense but always run cm for speed so every phone that I had that came with sense stock always was replaced with cm. There are pros and cons to both phones
htc sensation:better display and bigger(I actually like smaller screens)
g2x: more internal memory but less ram
htc is 1.2ghx and the g2x is 1.
It's such a hard choice to make. So my question is for those of you who got the g2x why did you get it instead of waiting for the sensation? What reasons did you have on going with the g2x as opposed to waiting for the htc? I really dont know if I should get the g2x or wait it out a bit. I am itching to hit that "complete order" button on the g2x though
I'd be coming from a mytouch 4g

I don't own a G2X, only played with one alongside my NS for a bit. I don't really know that you're going to notice a huge difference in speed coming from your Glacier on CM7 at 1.5ghz ...it's a really fast phone. Are there some other features you feel like your missing with the Glacier that you could get from the G2X?
Edit: I don't have a G2x in my cart, but I'm itching too as well...!
I was waiting for the Sensation....but I only made it 4 hours on the 15th before giving in and ordering online.
Only thing I like better about the sensation is the qHD display...but the G2X screen is still nice.
I also didnt want a huge screen phone that hardly fits in your pocket, the G2X size is good.
Well, I guess I'll just list my reasons out.
1. I, like you, don't like 4.3" screens, 4" is perfect for me and the display on the G2X is fantastic, even at 800x480 resolution.
2. I figured the .2 difference in ghz wasn't a big deal considering the resolution difference in the phones, 960x480 vs 800x480. As we've all seen, the G2X smokes the Atrix because of resolution alone, despite the 512mb ram difference.
3. Ram isn't going to make the phone run any better as we've already seen in Atrix vs G2X. It will help if your running tons of intensive apps at once, but it shouldn't be making much a difference 90% of the time.
4. A lot of devs are on the fence on supporting the sensation due to locked bootloaders. Even Cyanogen has said that they may not be supporting because of that very issue. And dev support is VERY important to me.
5. HDMI Mirroring on the G2X. This feature may also be on the sensation, but I haven't heard of it yet.
In all, I'm very happy I got the G2X. It runs like a champ and that's on Froyo. I can't wait till Cyanogen7 comes out.
P.S. The Optimus 2X has already been overclocked to 1.3 and 1.4 ghz if that means anything to you.
Hope this helps man. Good luck with whatever you get.
I never want a phone that has Sense on it.
Simple choice.
Well I got it because I'm a phone junkie. And I will be getting the sensation as soon as it drops. The G2x is a great phone much better than the vibrant and when it get GB it will be better than the nexus s.

Thanks for that man! Is that true that Cyanogen really might not support the sensation? Dev support is also very important to me. I never rely on carriers, always the community. I too am iffy about a 4.3 inch screen. I think my screen on my mt4g is pretty big enough for me especially since I have two android tablets for when I need a bigger screen android experience

Every sense phone I have had has only had sense on it for a first few minutes out of the box. I love sense for it's eye candy but it's such a resource hog. So I always replace sense with CM
Overall you guys are happy with the g2x? build quality is solid? any issues like bad displays or any nonsense like that?
Im in the same boat. im kinda leaning towards waiting though. The g2x is an awesome device but the larger and higher res screen on the sensation is enough to make me hold off.

if this is indeed true then i would get the g2x also. higher res screen (960x540) is nice but not as important as dev support. Btw, where did you read that cyanogen might not support it?
I'm still going back and forth if I'm going to order it or wait.. part of me really wants to just click that order button.. god I think I've made much more important decisions quicker than this one..

He said it on his Twitter. HTC already announced it will have a locked boot loader. Most devs aren't going to deal with that ****. Poor decision on HTC's part because Samsung has already announced there Galaxy S II will be wide open.

i think im going back to a razor........ f this
Honestly the g2x is an amazing device and couldn't see myself using the sensation for the sole reason of just sense. I had a mytouch 4g for about 2 days and returned it for the g2 all because of sense. Now from the g2 I'm on the g2x and couldn't be happier. So all these hours that I've been deciding... I decided to do it. It was in stock when I first put it in my cart, when I went to check out it said it wasnt available for immediate shipment. I looked at the main site and sure enough, it was out of stock Guess I will be calling the closest store in the AM seeing if they have any in stock. After looking at some vids of the sensation I think it's just too big for me. I think the biggest I would go is 4" Hope I can pick one up tomorrow
Hopefully! I'll tell you now my store was pretty well stocked and I was there about 2 hours after they opened. Funny thing is the sametime I was going in I counted about 5 or 6 other people going in for the same thing...good luck! =P

I'm personally waiting on the sensation I have a g2x its a nice phone I only use it for HDMI mirroring only use for me. I'm not scared of lock bootloader just be harder to crack. People said the g2 was unhackable and look at it now. Motorola signs thiers and uses encryption. The thunderbolt was hacked as well. If their is enough support it will be broken. Alot of developers are going still get this phone. The evo3d will be hacked as well once either phone is hacked well have an opening.

I can order the g2x it from radio shack's website
edit: ok so I did it! I ordered it from Radio Shack Hope I didnt make the wrong move.. if so there''s always craigs list
Ok, here's my opinion and comparison between the two, which I waited two weeks handling the sensation before posting.
The G2X was awesome without its fault the first couple days I had it. It was fast and reliable, simple to its core running the stock froyo. I miss the G2X to tell you guys the truth, and would have kept it if issues were solved, but I really couldn't wait months before an update are sent out. Even if updates are sent out it is still a gamble whether or not it will function the way it should. Paying a premium price for a phone should get you a near flawless device that should keep you happy for atleast a year or two, and shouldn't give you so much hassle that you can't use it due to bootloop for a whole day while you are out.
The HTC Sensation, so far, is working flawlessly. The lag people are talking about is pure nonsense. If you do remove most of the widgets that is running when you first turn on the device it should work without any lag, and people shouldn't really have that much widgets running.
Build Quality:
They are pretty much the same here. The G2X does feel more plasticky in the back, but it didn't really annoy me. The only thing about the sensation I didn't like are the power and volume buttons. They look like they will fall off any minute compared to the G2X which looked solid.
Screen:
The screen on the G2X does pop out more compared to the Sensation, but the resolution fares much better like it should on the latter device. I have to say the screen on the Sensation is amazing even under the sunlight. The only annoyance I have is that you have to go under settings to turn on the automatic dimmer because it is not on the power widget. Browsing the web is also better on the Sensation since you can see more with higher resolution. I have not experienced any of the issues they have posted such as dust, and touch sensitivity. Comparing to the G2X the touch sensitivity fares better on the sensation. I remember that sometimes I had to swipe the unlock button twice on the G2X, but haven't had that issue on the Sensation. The new sense UI is cool, that's all and will give you entertainment for 5mins.
Volume:
This is where I saw a really big difference. The G2X is far superior when it comes to the sound of the loudspeaker. I can hear the sensation's notifications just fine, but with the G2X I can hear it without any problem from another room and I can't say the same thing with the HTC. For this amount I would expect HTC to fit a better speaker, although, it doesn't annoy me since I usually have my phone on vibrate.
I like the Sensation, and I think that it is a superior quality to the G2X. Although, I do miss my G2X too.

This is basically my experience. G2x would have been awesome minus bugs, I couldn't wait to find out if they would be fixed. I did that for the vibrant and never again will I..
Sensation is just more reliable... Camera and video camera eat up g2x, I agree the screen on g2x is better looking. No lag on sensation either...... G2x is pimp, but I think reboots are hardware....sensation it is for me. Id come back if the phone was fixed and with gingerbread...
As a person who went from a G2X to a Sensation I agree with pretty much everything you say. I think you got the Sharp panel for your display which is why you think the G2X pops more. The AUO panel found in done Sensations is super bright with vibrant colors that pop almost as much as a Super AMOLED. I have handled 4 Sensations and trip of them have been laggy due to the person keeping the UI animations, weather animation and a HTC widget on every page. The Sensation I have only has the click widget with 4 pages worth of icons and it is buttery smooth.
Tell me if you notice a difference in these areas.
-App speed: I have found that most apps load and interact faster on the Sensation such as Google Maps which loads and zooms twice as fast than it does on the G2X.
-Flash Videos: Play smoother on the Sensation.
-Contacts app: Scroll faster than on the G2X which would stutter a little bit. Also my contacts pictures on my G2X would take a second to load when scrolling but they are instantly there as I scroll on the Sensation.
-Display: After looking at the Sensation for a couple days, do the icons and peters look fuzzy on the G2X?
All in all. I think once we get the Sensation rooted and this bloatware off of it, this phone will be a super beast.

I don't think I could ever go back to any device with a resolution less then QHD. I looked at the G2X last night and the icons/letters looked fuzzy.
If you display isn't better than the G2X's then try returning it for one with a AUO panel which almost pops as much as Super AMOLED. You probably have the Sharp panel.

I am curious about this. The unit I played with look like garbage compared to my G2x. The contrast was horrible on the Sensation. Washed out blacks and poor visibility in sunlight. I was not aware there are two different panels available. Is there a manufacturing date to look for? How can you tell before you purchase if you are getting the good panel?
jrwingate6 said:
I don't think I could ever go back to any device with a resolution less then QHD. I looked at the G2X last night and the icons/letters looked fuzzy.
If you display isn't better than the G2X's then try returning it for one with a AUO panel which almost pops as much as Super AMOLED. You probably have the Sharp panel.

I didn't really say that the display is bad compared to the G2X. The only reason I say this is because I was looking at the display through maybe 60-75% brightness to save battery, plus I don't want to get blinded. Full brightness then yes sensation does look really good.
Are you guys for REAL. Comparing Apples to Orange. First off, G2x runs android 2.2.2 and Sensation runs 2.3 if memory serves me right. So any comparison you guys where doing should have stopped right there not to mention one is stock vs non stock interface.

comparing an official 2.3 build to a leaked/incomplete version isn't exactly fair.. Even comparing to CM wouldn't be because it isn't even in RC yet. just saying...

Isn't the Snapdragon vs. TegraII Apples to Oranges?
Isn't 768mb vs 512mb of RAM Apples to Oranges?
Isn't a CPU clocked at 1.2 vs 1.0 Apples to Oranges?
Fact of the matter is not two devices are alike and they people will always compare Apples to Oranges. Just because both devices are running on 2.3 doesn't mean they can be compared then. There will still be other differences so I I don't ever see a Apples to Apples test.

Well sure, we can compare iOS to Android... but with Android, there are lots of optimizations in GB could make a big difference in numbers.
A good test is Stock G2x and Stock Sensation (2.2.2 vs 2.3.3) just as a good base. The true test comes when both are running official versions of the same software (2.3.3 vs 2.3.3).
GPU Accelerated OS parts aren't even included until GB so the G2x should feel faster on GB.
Even a G2x CM7 test wouldn't be fair because while they are on the same OS, CM has always had lower numbers (for some reason).
CM7 on Sensation and G2x would be a perfect test.

Agree. The best comparison for me is both phones right out of the box since we can't get apples to apples until GB is released for G2x.
Why does it HAVE to be apples to apples?
I have a T-mobile contract for another 6 months. I want the best phone on that T-mobile contract I can get. I am going to compare every T-mobile phone to every T-mobile phone and choose the best one for me. Its about comparing one device that is available to you to another device that is available to you. If I can root it and load a custom ROM on it to make it better I will consider that as best I can in my decision making... because it is available to me. Also, if something changes about a device and makes it a better option later on I will have to weigh that and consider switching because what is available to me changed.

I am enamored with the Sensation and I will be enamored when the Hercules gets released. I still play with my G2X and still do like it. There are some games I can't play on my Sensation that I love playing on the G2X and I still use the G2X to get my hack on.
Just because I extensively used both devices side by side (unlike most of the people here) and decided that the Sensation was the better all around device due to a number of reasons doesn't mean I don't like the G2X anymore and for that matter doesn't mean I don't use it anymore.
I have already stated the things the G2X does better than the Sensation. If those reasons were enough to use it as my main device then I would return the Sensation in a heart beat as I am not tied to either one. I understand some people are tied to the G2X and will defend it until there contract runs out but quite frankly, I could give a two ****s less about defending devices just because I own them. The things I think the G2X does better might be important to you and that's why you choose to use it. The categories the Sensation does better in are more important to me and is why I use it as my daily driver.
Bottom line. I still use my G2X and my Nexus S for that matter every day and until I stop using them, I will not stop browsing there respected forums.
By the way. I guess you didn't see my post yesterday saying good things about the G2X...uh?

+1 my friend. This is exactly how I feel. When it comes down to it. NOTHING is going to be apples to apples. It's always oranges in the mobile world and people have an excuse for everything. Compare the available devices no matter what kind of fruit they are and just go with it.
I will say I honestly love both devices. I had 2 g2x's and my daughter has one. I traded one of them in a trade for a sensation and the 2nd one I had sent back to LG for repair(should be here friday) I will admit I do miss my G2X a bit. I'm looking forward to getting my other one back and restoring it to the way my other one was before I traded it off

this vid is the same experience i had with the sensation and thats why i got rid of it! watch the video , and man talk about screen bleed! check out 1:42 i am glad to own a g2x i love this device, there is too much complaining going on. this phone is definitely the baddest

I agree, there were too many people whining about the screen bleed that was never noticeable in normal use. Sensation has no screen bleed but like I said when it first came out, the screen looked washed out to me and this video just confirms it. I never gave up on my g2x and I am glad I stuck it out.

All the whining was half the reason I got a sensation, but three sensations later I was begging for my g2x back..
I'll admit there is a bad batch, but its worth exchanging till you get a good one..
This phone should hold me over till quad core although getting the sgs2 probably, but I still see this being my main phone.
This phone is a ****ing beast for sure..

I feel like a troll but your comment makes no sense, how would other people's whining make you get rid of something that you liked? Sorry it bugs me when people complain about people whining when this phone has proven to be very inconsistent. Other people's issues should have had zero effect on your decision to keep your phone.

Lmfaoooo g2x ftmfwwwww for real though, I tried to like the sensation but damn I needed wifi lol and fast swypes...
My wife hasthe sensation and while I think its one of the better phones I am glad I stuck with my G2x also. Screen bleed is pretty bad and battery life is way worse than the G2X. My main problem is how flemsy it feels. The back of the phone comes all the way off to get to the battery which leaves a bunch of hollow space between the top cover and screen. So when making screen solection the phone smooshes like a sponge and creeks lol. The [email protected] feels like a much firmer phone imo.

Unibody designs are a terable idea and contribute to its poor WiFi performance. Both HTC and LG have been added to my list of manufacturers I will not buy from for atleast a year. Neither one of them know how to optimize or create drivers for their devices. To give you a little hint of how much Sense brings down the hardware on the Sensation.....After deleting Sense and the rest of the bloatware and running a custom ROM, my Quadrant score jumped to a score over 3000. Really the only manufacture UI that doesn't lag a phone out is Touch Wiz. I give props to Samsung for that.

I went to my local Tmo store fully intending to purchase the Sensation off contract. I wanted the larger screen and higher resolution. The crappy screen quality was a major turn off. I visited four different stores and the result was the same. Washed out blacks and poor color. Combined with all the other major issues the Sensation has, why would anyone switch? It is slower and the quality flat out sucks. Doing a little reading on Sensation forum tells me HTC is outsourcing their screens to the cheapest, crappiest manufactures available. HTC screwed up big time by going cheap on the screen quality.
HTC Sensation = fail
I hope they get it together because I loved my HD2 and expected better from HTC.
Isn't it a qhd screen? I came from att and an atrix which had a qhd screen...while the resolution was a lil better it was a crappy screen. Washed out. Color reproduction was terrible. Yellow looked brown. Coming from a super amoled it was very disappointing. I would have to say I think the ISP display is the way to go. It has a good balance of color and brightness. Black levels are not as good as amoled but at least whites are white and not yellow

I don't mind the screen at all. I was one of the lucky ones who got the Sharp display and not the Acer display that most people are seeing. The Sharp display is much better. Although, I really could care less about contrast or color reproduction on my 4 inch display. Where I do care about contrast is my 55 inch LED TV. I care more about text clarity on my cell phone since there isn't a day that goes by that I'm not reading blogs, ebooks, email, SMS and websites. In fact, after looking at my Sensations display for a couple days, my G2X display appears blurry with jagged text.
The only thing I absolutely hate about this phone is Sense. Which is exactly why I deteleted it. However, even when Sense was there, the Sensation still loaded and interacted with apps faster than my G2X and the gamd I play on a regular basis looked better as well.
In the end, I chose to use the phone that I liked better. I tried liking the G2X since I spent money on it and got the Sensation for free but I just couldn't anymore.
I was about to go back to the G2X because the phones UI lagged with Sense but then it got S-Off and after Sense was removed, the phones UI became as fast as my G2X.

Pros:
Pure Android
Faster Updates
Amazing Design
Curved Screen
SAMOLED
Very Fast
No Bloatware
Basically, this phone is what many custom roms are trying to reproduce.
Cons:
weaker camera
fewer options
fewer native codecs
Let me just say this. Sprint sent me an Evo 3D to replace my Nexus S 4G due to issues with my Airvana (signal booster). I activated the Evo 3D yesterday and switched back tot he Nexus last night. It's very difficult to replace the Nexus S 4G. It's a beautiful phone and it just works. You will be the first to get updates and it's very well built.
The Evo 3D was nice but, IMO not well built. I had 8 dead pixels and HUGE light leak on the bottom half of the screen. Even with the dual core my Nexus feels more responsive. The Nexus also feels better in my hand and I just love the curved screen. I'm not knocking the Evo 3D at all but even with the better specs, it still doesn't touch the Nexus S.... That's just my opinion.
Nice.. i dont have the 3g though, I have the Evo4G.. ( first evo )
Yeah he knows that lol but the 3d has better specs then the 4g and he still prefers the nexus

Yeah I realize that you have the Evo 4G. My point was that I was using a an Evo 3D (and it was free) and I will take my Nexus over that any day. GS II would be the next phone that I would look at. But dual core is over rated for a phone, IMO.
I would like to see some improvements to the Nexus, especially with the camera but that is far from a deal breaker.
The radios in the ns4g are pieces of junk! they just dont work!
