[answered] Headphones/mic - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Quick question - from the videos I've seen, there is a headphone socket, but no microphone one.
Does that mean this doesn't support an external microphone, or do you have to get a mobile phone style one, with a third "band" on the jack itself?
I'm thinking of using it for Skype, mainly, but I'm sure other people will think of far more useful things to do with one

It can take the 3 band type that you mention. Stereo headset +mic combo jack.

I believe it is a microphone/headphone audio jack. So it supports the 3.5mm 3 band headphones you're talking about for mobile phones.

Nice and easy. Thanks!

Inline headphone audio control/mic adapter?

Does anyone know of a headphone adapter with audio controls and and a mic? I'm think of something similar to the mini-USB to 3.5mm adapter than came with the G1, but obviously with a 3.5mm connector for the phone.
I like the controls on the bundled headphones but the audio quality and noise isolation is terrible. I want to be able to use my Sennheisers but still pause and skip songs. I'm sure I could splice the bundled control module into my headphones but I'd rather not hack up an expensive set.
Alternately, does anyone know of a software solution to map one of the buttons to perform pause/skip functions? Having to unlock the phone to pause and skip or use a fugly lock screen replacement is not ideal.
i would like to know this as well
I've got two sets that I really like. Skull Candy FMJ are my favorite. Great sound isolation. Kinda spendy, but well worth it. A lower cost and nearly as good option is a Best Buy brand vmoda headset. Sound isolation with inline mic witha button which is basically a start/pause button for the audio. It works great for what I use it for.
Hmm. I'd prefer just a simple adapter so I can keep using my Sennheiser CX 300-II's (especially since I just replaced them this summer after leaving my old set on an airplane). Do you have the v-modas? I don't want them, but I want to make sure that iPod controls also work on the G2. If so I may check out the Etymotic mc3 or hf3.
Look at radio shack for what you are looking for. I'm pretty sure I saw something to what you are looking for. Here it is...

I have the v-moda vibe duo, the jaybird freedom, and zagg smartbuds. All three work great. Zagg has the coolest feature of any headphones I've had with the way they designed them and are my go to. V-moda has the best bass of the three and jaybirds are perfect for working out it. All three mic and controls work.

Ouch! $40 for a simple mic and control button adapter? I may just start cutting and splicing cheap headsets to see if that works.

i have sony ericsson mw-600 stereo bluetooth adapter/headset if you want a more wireless option. it has OLED display and controls on the mic clip, and stereo adapter to plug in your own headphones/ear buds if you dont like the stock ones.

Stereo Bluetooth Headsets with FM Radios?

I am looking for a bluetooth headset that has a FM radio and stereo 3.5mm out. The FM radio is very important to me because I can't get cell reception inside my office building but I can get FM reception. I also can use the FM at the gym to hear what's on the TV's. What would also be great is if it could double as a pendant-style when using the stereo out and also serve as a mono earpiece. Another good feature is a clip that allows me to clip the thing to my shirt.
Here is an example of almost-but-not-quite, the Samsung HM6450:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004R9PSL6
I own one. It has some nice features, like English-audio indicators for power on, etc. No more mystery beeps you have to remember the meanings of. It is also intended to be used with Samsung's Android phones, and work with a special Android app. However, it is not without drawbacks. For starters, it has no FM radio. Second, to use 3.5mm stereo requires a rather long adapter to be connected to the microUSB slot -- otherwise you're stuck with using the special microUSB earbuds that come with it.
This one looked like a good candidate -- the i.Tech Clip D-Radio:
http://www.amazon.com/i-Tech-D-Radi..._1_2?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1308112051&sr=1-2
The problem is it's out of stock. It also can't be used as a mono earpiece the way the Samsung can.
Last but not least is Sony Ericsson's MW600:
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Ericsson-Bluetooth-Stereo-Headset/dp/B003DQ1DCM/ref=pd_cp_cps_1
I don't own one but it looks good. There are two drawbacks -- you can't use it as a mono earpiece like the Samsung, and the power connector is not standard microUSB, so it doesn't have the flexibility I'd like it to have.
Also, I will mention I have a couple pairs of these excellent Sony earphones:
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-MDRQ68LW-Clip-On-Headphones-Black/dp/B000TDAXJ6/ref=dp_cp_ob_e_title_2
The key feature they have is their RETRACTABLE CORDS. Yep, the main cord retracts into the left speaker while the left-right connecting cord retracts into the right speaker. The ear clips are also far above average. No more cord mess, and potentially it could work very well with the MW600 for mono phone duties -- keep the cords retracted but still plugged into the MW600, leave the combination clipped to my shirt, and then when the phone rings I just clip the left earphone on and let the right earphone and MW600 hang free. Then if I want to hear better I just extend the right earphone and clip it on as well.
Anyways, I'm wondering if anyone has any better suggestions for a stereo bluetooth unit that has a FM radio.
Go with sony ericson mw600...I use it with my Epic, and it works nicely
Yeah I'm using the MW600 now and like it overall, particularly with the Sony retractable headphones. Two issues I do have with the MW600:
1) The rewind/play/forward buttons are black, with raised black symbols, on the black MW600 case. Someone at Sony should be shot. I'm tempted to paint the symbols myself...
2) The "volume slider" strikes me as someone at Sony wanting a bonus for getting a patent for an interface device that's inferior to old-fashioned up/down buttons.
Maybe I am late for this thread but the MW600 does have a MicroUSB port, it is a great product except for the gripes mentioned with the buttons.

audio/sound recorder external mic

Is there anyway to record audio onto the phone using an external mic like this one?
http://www.allthingsdigital.com.au/images/Sony ECMCS10.jpg
It is a standard size jack that fits right into the phone. I figured that since our headsets have mics in them, there must be a way to record audio straight through.
Sorry if this has been answered before, I couldn't find it!
Looking for the same thing...
Hey Folks,
I've been looking for the same thing.
I have a HTC Sensation coming in the mail today as a replacement to my Atrix 4G that is showing it wear.
What I do is vlogging on my motorcycle but I've been having a real issue with my audio setup. I just purchased an external Microphone:
ATR-3350-Omnidirectional-Condenser-Microphone (ON AMAZON)
Now what I want to do is record on the android using the above listed Microphone. Does anyone know if I need a 3.5MM TRRS adapter or other kind of conversion adapter?
Thanks,
NewF

Thinking of in ear and/or over the air headphones upgrade

Hello fellow 6p users.. I'm thinking of upgrading either my Xiaomi Piston 3 or my AKG 518 headphones to something at the range of around 100€ .
But given the not so great audio quality of the 6p ,i was wondering if it's actually worth it.
I would be very grateful If you could advise me with some solid choices, I'm thinking at the moment the Momentum Sennheiser, either IEM or Over air.. Something with 3 buttons (play/pause and volume control and inline mic) that actually work.
Over air will not be that good, all the air will distort the audio
on a serious note Im using Shure SE215 with mine. as you know audio on 6p isnt great, Viper Audio is a must if you are serious about audio. Im using a headphone amp as well
Shot in the dark but I have these and loe them. Everyone that listens to them has been impressed with the quality.

I'm not sure if this is on topic enough but I've noticed Bluetooth overall is very subpar and can be prone to interference (frequent cut outs when the phone's in my pocket or if I make a very short trip to the next room). This mainly applies to my headphones which have worked fine on several other devices. Of course this would be one of the only times I keep it in my pocket--when using headphones cutting grass, walking, etc.
I'm using viper. The volume and general sound quality are fine, not great be meets my standards. Only bring it up in case anyone happens to know how to improve it.
M50x for sure. Cant be beaten for the money
Wow,no sleep does bad things when typing,i clearly needed some air..
Back on subject, i would love to get M50x but i can't find a good deal either on Greece (my home country) or in Italy that I'm currently for vacation.. Cheapest i can find them is 150€ , which I'll might have ti spend in order to get a good over the air headset.. How is the build quality of the M50?
Thanks for the Bluetooth one,but i prefer wired headphones..
As for viper4android, i haven't rooted yet but i think i will soon in order to improve audio..

@tagari m50x are greatly built, just bought a pair not too long ago. great set of headphones.
I'm not sure if you can get these in Greece, but they are iem that have a built inline dac/amp. The caveat is that it doesn't use the 3.5mm audio jack. It uses the usb-c port, via an adaptor. I got them for my N5 and now use them with my N6p. Works well and you can boost the volume up to the point that it's uncomfortably loud...

Which external microphones work with pixel 3a?

I would like to get a relatively inexpensive external microphone that will work when recording videos. Can people recommend specific microphones that are known to work with the pixel 3a?
Would an external microphone plug into the headphone jack or the usb C port? Is an adapter required?
I saw something about TRRS and TRS cables and/or adapters but I would like to know what the best options are to use with the pixel 3a.
All external microphones that are designed for smarphones should work on the Pixel 3a.
Since the Pixel 3a has an audio jack, you can choose between an 3.5mm jack microphone or a USB Type-C microphone. I would say analog (3.5mm jack) microphones will probably be cheaper than USB Type-C ones. However, if you intend to buy a flagship phone in the future, you may lose the 3.5mm jack and will need to buy another mic.
I only have experience with RØDE microphones, so I would recomend this one: https://www.rode.com/microphones/videomicme
It is very compact, since it directly attaches to the phone without any cables. It costs around $50 and also includes the furry windshield (a.k.a. the "dead cat"), which is a must-have for outdoor filming.
EDIT: the Pixel has the audio jack right next to the camera and this microphone may obstruct it! Please check this before buying.

Thank you for the very detailed and helpful answer! I see what you mean about the headphone jack being so close to the camera that a lavalier mic might work better than one without a cord.
A youtuber that I follow got a 3a and found that the external microphone didn't work on it so I want to be able to test mine and verify that it works correctly.
I'm on a different phone and different version of android... BUT I found that I had to try different recording apps to get my phone to use a mic as a mic instead of trying to use it as headphones. The one app I found to do it is from the play store, called "Voice Recorder" by "quality apps (recorder, weather, music)". There's a free version with ads and a paid version. There are others with the same name that didn't work for me. Maybe it'll work for you.

Did you had overheat problem when filming?
I'm not filming with the phone, I use a different RØDE microphone with my dSLR.
I haven't tested any external mics but I do suggest Open Camera for video. Lots of options including bitrate adjustments and you can even save directly to USB storage. I'm pretty sure it has sound source settings as well.
3a mic - not 3 - Very different beast.

I also have a Pixel 3a. I don't believe the question was answered. A pixel 3a is not a pixel 3a XL.
Different processors etc. I am not a tech person at all but I too need a lavelier for my pixel 3a for videos.
Can a headphone jack be used for a microphone because they are both Audio? Is it the headphone jack that is used or as posted above, possibly the USB - C end of the phone?
I have found the same info as previous poster. "Should work" and Do work are not the same.
According to the research the "should work" options suggested for the lower model 3a phone, options do not work. Any further info available - besides get a new phone? Thanks in advance.
