I've just been given a Xoom. The hardware is great, but the lack of compatibility with loads of stuff I do is a pain. Can I put Windows 7 on it?
That's a negative.
Interresting question, search for qemu, learn a lot about android, its ndk, c++, and how hardware works... then a bit more try and fail and you have windows 7 running inside of your android. because of the nature of your question i would say you will need about 10 years, if you are a good learner maybe 7. Windows 8 for arm will maybe come earlier and motorola will maybe... ehm no they wont.
Sorry for my sarcastic nature. but hey, take it serious, learn what i told you and maybe you solve this problem from a side you never expected.

Yes, you can. User named BlmrRlz has ported Win7 Home edition to run on Tegra platform. He managed to dual boot with Android Honeycomb 3.01.

I am not sure what 'lack of compatibility' your talking about other than maybe proprietary applications or gaming. But I've replaced my last windows laptop with the Xoom, now I have a few Linux desktops and this.
Gaming is looking up for Android, especially if PlayStation ever gets a good emulation from Sony.
Why would you take a fast android tablet and bog it down with windows 7 ?
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk
Just set up remote access to your Windows 7 PC and access it on your Xoom whether it be via RDP, LogMeIn, TeamViewer, etc. The addition of a bluetooth keyboard makes it even better. Counting remote access, my Xoom runs Windows 7, XP, Server 2003, Server 2008, and Mac OS X.

* Java support
* Silverlight support
* Flash support - not sure where this is at, but Friv doesn't work.
* WMV support - sure, it's Microsoft, but it's a pretty old standard these days and everything else seems to play it.
* Fully working MKV support - regardless of the video player I use (and I've installed quite a few), there's either choppy playback, no sound etc.. All of these play fine through my cheapy LG BD player.
* Fully working H264 support - I have a number of videos from various sources and I find that regardless of the video player I use, the sound often stops after a few minutes or the video stops entirely, forcing me to keep rewinding slightly to get it to play past that bit. There's nothing wrong with the files, they play fine elsewhere and the Xoom will play them completely if I keep rewinding each time the sound cuts.

Some flash apps simply aren't optimized for touch, or are so horribly written that the device can't offer the performance needed, heck my quad core desktop struggles with some.

Yeah, I agree that's unlikely, especially with the focus for this kind of thing becoming HTML5. It's just a pain ATM because of apps like Sky's video player.

I can't remember the error (and I don't have my Xoom with me), but Friv comes up with an error saying that it doesn't recognise the install of Flash (or something like that). It's different to before I had Flash installed at all IIRC. It's not a performance thing. I think a few other sites say the same thing. Perhaps it's some kind of out-of-browser support it's looking for.

Hi guys, i just got my transformer and I love it but I have a little problem, HD videos in youtube app stutters!! t is not a connection problem, on my computer they play perfect, and anyway I let it load it the whole video to avoid connection problems.
The video still stutters, sometimes it plays full framerate, but the second after it is jerky!!
Anyone have the same problem?
Should I return it?
MP4 720p in video player just play fine...
PS: I also noticed i have some LCD backlight bleed problem... awwww man...
If hd flash is important it might not be the best solution.
Could wait and hope for a fix, but the tablet market is moving fast, always a risk companies will move on to the next gen product.
So far Tegra 2 + honeycomb seems not ideal, after all the hype?

No yputube app does not use flash, in fact i uninstalled FlashPlayer from tablet to be sure of that.
I have the same issue. Coming from a Xoom I noticed it almost immediately. If there is stock soon, I will go to the store and have it replaced. Otherwise I might just return it. There are things I can deal with, stuttering video is not one of them.

Actually once it can do 1080p high profile, I could care less what is coming out since it would be the complete package. A Tegra 3 device seems like it could be the one. Definitely selling my Transformer and getting a Tegra 3 tablet when it comes out.
I think the problem is related to the youtube app, i had a trip to a local store with an Iconia A500 and played with it a bit. It had the same problem, i doubt a replacement would do the trick. i suppose an OTA update with a revised version of the youtube app or some tweak should be enough.

If thats the case then I don't mind at all, but it's something that I'd like to know *officially*. It's not something that has to be fixed immediately, but I'd like to know that the issue lies with the app and not my hardware.
Edit: But, at the same time, I didn't think many other people were having the same issue.. ?
stuttering playback was an initially known issue with honeycomb. Like someone else mentioned though, the firmware seemed to resolve that issue. Might want to make sure you have the latest and greatest version.

ya mines the US version of the 20110423.. first thing I checked.
It just crummy because my buddy loved my Xoom, especially the Youtube app (hes got a relatively large presence on youtube) and when he went to watch one of his videos (G20 Battle of Toronto) it was stuttering. It's like it will be smooth for a few seconds then get choppy . The audio never skips a beat though.
Just noticed a flash update on the market. Don't know if it'll help you or not. Looks like its now out of beta or something. I didnt really read it all before i installed it. Version 10.2.156.12.
Edit: Bah the irony. Now I'm getting the stuttery video. I wasnt before.

I know there are USB-HDMI cables, but what kind of pinout connections for the TP translate?
The TP plug LOOKS like the one on my Samsung Mythic phone cable, but I sure as hell wouldn't plug it in!
Pros to why it might work
The chipset is capable
It doesn't appear that HP messed with the reference design
Cons to why it might not work
Chipset may be capable but no idea if the drivers to do it are in WebOS
It could have been removed
I can't find if anyone has tried an MHL adapter on the Touchpad yet
I've yet to hear of anyone outputting any video with the touchpad to an external screen.
I tried an MHL adaptor on the touchpad and it doesn't work.
Would be good if there's any other way to link it to a TV/Monitor.

So now the question is, is it because the hardware was modified or is it lacking in the software?
Another thought I had was looking to Bluetooth VDP support. Since WebOS uses the bluez stack and there was some work previously on VDP for bluez it shouldn't be too hard to the profile working. There is also the SPP video approach however both of these would need one to have a Bluetooth receiver to display the video.

I wouldn't get my hopes up given the state of WebOS. Android is looking like the best solution right now especially with ICS just around the corner.
gentleman, it WILL NOT work on 3.0.2 or 3.0.3, but is the #1 feature for 3.0.4, so either wait for that, or hope that CM team gets it working, but it prolly wont work in CM7 1.0 as its not the most important thing to have working at launch

as for 3.0.3, it WAS available, but HP sent a C&D to xda and nbournes (something like that, my bad ) so its gone, and HP also deactivated the dev reg server, so you have to impostah bypass to use 3.0.3, you get the camera app, faster browser but no access to app catalog or HP resources

I very much doubt they will add ANY new features, and any in the works will probably be removed or disabled in the final release. I think HP is releasing one last software update to deal with the fact that the software that shipped is junk. Its slow and buggy and I think HP feels that they need to fix the outstanding issues. I seriously doubt they feel they need to put any energy into adding new features. WebOS IS dead. Hp is not making devices running it anymore and no one is going to want it. They may be able to sell it for a few bucks to someone who wants the palm patent portfolio though. At the right price google might want those patents. The idea that HP will keep flushing money down the webOS hole though is absurd.

Oops. Neither can I. Obviously I haven't used it very much. The answer may be the same though if Samsung's had Adobe make modifications to work with S-Note and the non-standard clipboard. The fact that Play doesn't recognize we have it installed means something funky is going on in the background. Same thing applies to Polaris.

Hi everyone,
Do you know a Player for Windows RT that supports MKV files playback? I´ve been using VLC or even CineXPlayer for other platforms...
thanks in advance,
Carles.-
Unfortunately I think there are no MKV player available yet...
One way to do (while waiting for someone to develop/port one) would be to convert MKV to MP4 contener (ie only change the container and the convert the audio but keep the video in h264).
All my movies are in mkv I would gladly pay for an app for playback would make the surface all most complete
Use mkv2vob to make mkv video playable on the surface in a few seconds. Make sure "transcode dts" is checked in options since the surface can't decode dts audio. If space is an issue you can convert video with handbrake, the default iPad setting works well.

*sigh* almost!!! At first it didn't work at all. I had to turn hardware acceleration off. Hard coded subtitles don't work/show up at all. Most .mkv's don't play at all. The ones that do play come through okay. I did Surface chat to get a full refund. The app isn't ready yet. However, if you have english speaking mkv, you may get away fine. I watch anime, and I need the hardcoded subtitles to show up. It's a bit overpriced in my book.
I tried and it did not work for me neither.

I know of a software Power DVD Mobile for Ultra that supports MKV playback, but you need to pay a fee to buy Power DVD Mobile first and then activate it. I recently got the mk908ii, so far it's been working out great. Very fast. Wi-Fi is very strong, but the antenna seems kind of fragile(accidentally turned it wrong way and heard a crack). Does anyone have recommendations for any new apps I can use?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4
I have had a mk808b for about a week now, these are my must have apps:
-full!screen: for hiding the navigation bar that was there even on "fullscreen" movie playback. I set a pie control for my right upper display corner that now totally replaces the navigation bar. This is actually the most usefull app i found.
-External Keyboard Helper: for starting apps directly with the push of a button on my wireless keyboard (Measy RC12)
-Screen Adjuster: In case you don't want to change the brightness/color settings of your tv
-XBMC (v 13 gotham alpha 1 works quite well for me, if you can live without hardware decoding, the stable v 12.2 (frodo) build would propably be better) + Plugins (1channel, icefilms etc...)
-MX Player: probably better playback of HD content than XBMC

Don't use any of the specific alpha builds, because now ALL nightlies have libsf! I would first try the latest nightly and go from there!
I find that ALL of the XAF builds fail on my MK908. So I gave up on that thread.
Hmm, my MK908 isn't actually plugged in right now and I have to go do some work. But just try the LATEST android nightly build and if that doesn't work ask again and I'll hook up and tell you which build I'm actually using.

Alpha 7 is the latest build. It was released yesterday. Does the youtube addon work in your xbmc?

OK, I just hooked up my MK908... still waiting for my tronsmart airmouse from geekbuying so I haven't been messing with it recently
WTF, why isn't full!screen working? XBMC isn't starting fullscreen for no apparent reason. And I am getting errors I've never seen before from XBMC about "Failed to start commoncache"
Looks like my MK908 has developed some kind of problem while I wasn't using it. That's a real mark of quality hardware.
I don't think I will ever buy another android stick PC at this rate. So far I have tried two rikos and one tronsmart and they are all crap. It's too bad nobody mades any Android PC which is not crap. I guess there's some that are kind of OK but they are more expensive than an AMD nettop! WTF. This is why my MK908 wasn't even plugged in. I sure hope Pi****u supports this chip soon.
edit: that's PIC UNT U. Word filters are for children.
Well, I'm not going to be able to give you any useful information, you probably already know that Google is unresponsive to bugs and that XBMC doesn't run very well on Android. I guess I will have to re-flash my MK908. Maybe I'll try just restoring a backup.
What garbage.

That's exactly the porblem i have with all XBMC builds after Alpha 1 (besides the non-functional youtube addon, but i guess thats related because youtube needs the commoncache plugin). But all other plugins work fine, so its not that bad .
If you decide to reflash let me know if it resolves the issue for you.

actually, I didn't even run youtube, although I may have it installed. and last time I turned my stick on I didn't get these errors. I haven't updated XBMC, either. it's been a week since I've used it.

You should buy an odroid. Much better hardware and stable

My mk908 is working fine. I can even run power hungry games like asphalt 8 on it. Don't know what kind of issues everyone has having. It's it because of xbmc? I haven't used xbmc yet so I can't tell
