Well I just switched to Android and I'm loving it! It's awesome. However I'm really having a problem with my battery. I got this phone on Sunday...and the battery life for me has been horrible for me.
I leave my phone on the charger all night. I have to leave for school, and I take my phone off the charger around 8:00am.
Throughout the school day, I'll check my phone a couple times. I probably send like 10-15 texts, and I take a few pictures at lunch. That's all I do, nothing else. By the end of the day (2:45) the battery is at 50%. I don't understand how a battery can be this bad, when it's in standby almost the whole day.
I have advanced task killer installed, and I have it set so all apps are killed when the screen is off, and it auto-kills apps. I turn off wi-fi at school since I don't get any, and my screen brightness is at auto. No live wallpaper either, just a normal still one. So I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. I understand the battery isn't the biggest, but from what I hear everyone else is getting better battery life then me, and they're doing so much more than me.
Any help? Would be appreciate!
First things first, get rid of task killer. Also see what's syncing. Play with the settings a little. Battery is tiny for this phone. But with tweaking it does the job. Best bet is to get a second battery or an extended battery from the desire hd.
Why should I get rid of task killer? Everyone that I speak to that has android told me to get it. When I don't have it, I have all these apps running in the background like Asphalt 5, AT&T Navigator, Maps, and a bunch of crap that shouldn't even be running. I have pretty much everything syncing, does that kill the battery?
Taskiller was ok back in earlier versions of android. The apps aren't actually running they are stored in memory with no impact on CPU. Constant syncing is going to destroy your battery.
Davwman is absolutely correct about the task killer app. Do some googling on this and you will see that it creates more issues than helps.

Alright, thanks a lot! I fixed the syncing, and a message popped up saying that it will extend the battery life. I'm going to assume this is going to help a lot, since Facebook and my email was probably constantly updating during. I'll look into the task killer as well!
You should see an improvements in the following days as well as the battery is settling in.
If not, Id ask AT&T for a replacement of the unit for another one.
If you have any battery widgets I would remove those too. I had batstatt and it was destroying my battery!!!
The battery isn't too great... 1230mAH ... I did send an e-mail to HTC regarding replacement batteries and they said I quote..

There's absolutely a chance of extended batteries being made; plenty of our devices have them made for them. At this time I don't know for sure if we're going to have one, as that decision is made by a completely different department and the Inspire 4G has only been available for less than a week. You really need to turn off auto-brightness as well. That will suck up battery power. Just set your brightness to a reasonable level. I usually keep mine around 35-40%
also auto rotate and data always on could affect it
Look into a widget that will allow you to kill data when you don't need it. Switchpro is a paid app and will allow this but I'm sure there are free ones.
You will still be able to send and receive calls as well as sms.
This should help get more out of the battery life.
As previously stated you might also look into picking up a spare battery for when you need the juice.
Check amazon and ebay. Beware of anything coming from China.

Everytime your screen adjusts, its using CPU. So turn it off, get rid of the task killer,- when you kill them, chances are most of them are starting back up and that's making it worse.
Flash/ or wait for a version with all of this horrendous bloat removed.

I'm at 15 hours off charge, exactly 20% battery left, 3 hours screen on time
turn off syncing. dont us gps or navigation programs. no live wallpaper. i use this phone like my old Tilt 2 and i get about the same amount of battery life out of it (1 day) and i charge it at night. now on my phone i have syncs running for email and facebook and what not i send and recieve about 30 - 50 txts a day. lots of email. photos for work, i DO have live wallpaper loaded so i think the battery is just fine. however yes i will want a bigger battery when this one dosnt accomplish a full day without a charge.. oh ya games will eat into your battery as well!

I am not a new user...I have had an n1, g2, mt4g, g2x and now the sensation.
And I am having a TERRIBLE time with the battery life.
It's not the apps running int he background--it's not partial wake use...i've already reset the battery stats.
It doesn't seem to drain the battery when I don't use the phone more than any other phone I've had, but when I use the phone, for regular surfing, for any apps at all (xda, google reader, g+, etc...) it blows through battery like no one's business.
I thought maybe I had a bum battery so I bought an anker one--and no better at all!
I'm pretty disappointed. I love the phone, but I'm only getting about 9 hours of lightish-medium use out of it, whereas I would easily get 15 hours or so on my g2x with the EXACT same setup.
I have tried the stock rom.
I have tried cm7
I have tried bricked kernel.
Anyone have any thoughts? I'm about at my wits end.
I should add, it also does this weird thing where it will drop a ton after a reset

Have you checked what you've got syncing and how often? I think when you first add an email, the sense email app tries to sync every 15 minutes. If you're like me and have multiple emails, that could be a big drain. Facebook for Android also tries to sync every hour unless you change it. Weather also syncs right out of the box, but I forget how often.
Aside from that, you could try undervolting and underclocking. I think for me, this had the biggest impact on my battery. Light to medium use (with very little gaming though), I can easily go an entire day and not have to charge until bedtime.
As for today, I've been up for 5 1/2 hours and my battery is still at 74% with some light net surfing, watching videos from gallery and youtube, some texting and a quick phone call. Not to mention a couple of reboots because I wanted to play with the new 4ext recovery.
For what it's worth, I'm running this:
Stock battery
InsertCoin 2.5.5-2 (yup an old classic lol)
Bricked Kernel 1.5r1 beta 1 - 192/918 MHz wake, 192/384 MHz sleep, undervolted by 45k
Sense stripped out with lukogriffioen's script
DX Home, a little known, but really smooth launcher even at low clock speeds
As for syncing, I have hourly weather, once a day for email (3 accounts) and manual for Facebook
Only a handful of widgets running: Beautiful Widgets for clock, smooth calendar and a few toggles for wifi and brightness since I don't use auto-brightness

You just have bad battery stats. Give it a few cycles. How many hours of display time are you getting? Today I got 12 hours total with 4.5 hours screen on before I charged it. Battery was 10%, anker.
I got pretty good results with Juice Defender.. oh yeah. get rid of Skype.

I get between 16hrs and 28hrs depending on how much calling I do. 16 hours with 2-3x 15-30min conversations, light gaming, and frequent internet browsing stints.
I'm thinking it's battery stats.

I finally decided I would take some extreme measures to aide the BL of my Androids. I have an HTC Inspire and HTC HD2 with Nexus S Android. The HD2 isn't all that bad...much better BL than the Inspire, but I wanted to apply this measure to both phones. Will it help? Only time will tell.
I started by removing all screen widgets. Then I sorted the screen icons so that a minimum of homescreens were needed...got it down to 2 homescreens. Then I deleted all widgets without apps not able to be opened through an icon. Then I went into Applications manager and cleared and stopped all non-used apps and services. I also deleted all duplicate services such as OEM email accounts and their associated syncing....using add-in apps for them. (example: built-in apps and widgets like Facebook, Twitter are uninstalled or disabled and am using another combining app like Seesmic. Same goes for the email app)
What I currently have is an Android iPhone. I'm using only icons on the 2 homescreens. And this makes me understand why Apple refuses to use widgets and stick with icons...to preserve BL. I hope this will improve the BL of my Androids because it is purely horrendous. And it is horrendous with all Androids I've tried and used.
Until the recently announced battery tech breakthrough is made available, this might have to be how Android is used from now on. But I doubt these extreme measures will actually help.
What is the difference between a widget and an application?
An application is a single, whole program package that is loaded into the phone. Examples would be Tapatalk, the default Calculator, and Angry Birds.
An application can have one or more widgets in it -- a widget is an interactive thing you can place on the home screen. It can give you information, and you can tap on it to change what it says. A good example of that would be Beautiful Widgets, or the little Android guy that tells you about how to use your new phone.

@Marty, how long was your battery lasting prior to the "Extreme Makeover"? Mine currently will last me 2 days. Admittedly, I've not loaded a lot of stuff on the phone yet, and I have the power saver mode start at 70%...but I only need to recharge every other day.
My desire lasts around 2 days with moderate usage. But on a good day (read: many boring moments), it's completely depleted by the end of the day. My biggest battery drainer is whatsapp, if I uninstall the app my battery will last a LOT longer.
If i really need my phone to last for a long time (when Im on a big trip or on a festival) I always use JuiceDefender with a very strict setting. This is a big help, but not for everyday use
whats the point? Where ever you sleep you have access to a plug/usb w/e so whats the big deal ? how hard is it to charge the phone every night? even thought my galaxy s2 hold battery for 40hrs+ i never need that :|
Ive dont the same thing, I also found some build prop and init.d tweaks that improve battery life.

My battery could last two days BUT i use my phone a lot. like its on for 7 hours with 4.5 hrs screen on.

ther have been many apps and disucssions on BL. heres some common tips.
screen to lowest brightness possible setting. background data always off unless using market. disable -use wireless networks- options, no gps, no location. also turn off *back up my data*. wifi always off not in use. screeen timeout no more than 2 minutes. turn off animations and transitions. setcpu with moderate settings (if you can do a screen off profile it will be beneficial but beware Sleep of Death.) no live wallpapers. minimum widgets or none. minimum homescreens or 1. startup manger. adfree. location cache app. and battery calibration to get the most juice.
the issues seems to be alot with hardware the Htc inspire and HD2 have 1250 Mah Batteries , which are very small.
If some people are just like me... I can kill at 1800mah battery in 5 hours even at full charge...
I do everything on my smartphone. So anything to save the battery is a good way.
I have the Galaxsy S II and I've managed to drain the battery in 6hours of usage and since I'm not near a power source most of the time then yeah I need all the juice....
I don't sit in an office or am near a power source 80% of the time. I usually carry 2 spare batteries with me and a charger for them just in case.

Whats the point??
Here is my daily usage :
Alarm goes off at 6:30am (phone gets unplugged)
Blahblah (at work) reply to emails and messages throughout the day, on twitter A LOT (plume premium)
2 calls approx 30 mins each
Play some games at break and lunchtime (Drag racing KILLS my battery, a bit of plants vs zombies, grave defence HD and maybe some pinball deluxe)
more emails and twitter
another 20min call
a little more gaming while im waiting on customers (1hr or so??)
6pm go home for 6:30pm
BAM! battery is at 10-20% and i need to plug it in again.
this is a typical 12hr day for me and im sure others have longer days and i would appreciate not having to rush home (sometimes) if im expecting a call.
so as far as im concerned anything which will save some precious battery on my devices is appreciated.
btw i have reduced my homescreens to 3 and only have 2 widgets running and that has made a great difference to my battery life (esp. on the DHD)

Basically kill factory and carrier bloatware and you are getting better.
One thing I was amazed about was the eBook reader that comes with our Galaxy Tabs, and suppose others too.. it always working even if you dont have or use it.
And remember, the screen is what takes most out of your BL, always. Lower brightness? Get a better ROM with no bloatware and maybe undervolt the screen.
Homescreens dont change a bit. Widgets do, if they update a lot.. more than that notification stuff do. Like if you use a antivirus or antisomething, just check of notifications.. check of any unneeded notifications.
Vibration theorically is what consumes the most.. but since its not as used as the screen, you dont even compare them. But every little bit helps. Check off keyboard clicks and hepatic feedback - vibrations.
Wifi, bluetooth, data... don't actually consume much.. actually it's better if you leave a service stable on, than keep sleeping and switching it. So leave wifi always on, no sleep policy. But when you go out turn it of so it doesnt keep scanning all the time (unless you want to ).
Just like any PC, the more you install.... Just check what you got going on, learn how to check processes and services that keep on all the time, and there are some utils to help stop some crap from starting up. I use ROM Toolbox and Autostarts.. some stuff get activated just because you plug you device to charge!
DONT use task killers... dont let anything like that keep running... and no, GMail push notifications wont use any batt. Maybe pop/imap emails always pollling will use some.. but probably nothing compared to the examples above.

Is Juice Defender a task killer? Not really sure what is it but I've been wondering about that.
Juice Defender Ultimate has been giving me about a 1/3 more time with screen on max. Why is my screen on max, because I was trying to drain the phone. It's on about 40% now which is still pretty bright. I wouldn't be mad to get more life but I think 20+ hrs with moderate use isn't bad. I think the most I did was search the net about 4 hours total. But I was also, customizing, so it the screen was lit for a while.
This is a TMO GSII I'm talking about.
There are a ton of things you can do, but the truth of it all is that our 3G/4G radios pull so hard they drain the battery, which is why you were on the right track when you disable active since, Facebook and Twitter.
The main two things I do, is
1. add a widget for turning off 3G or 4G (If its in your area).
2. Installed Startup Manager ( it disables startup programs in the unseen background, (my phone is rooted)).
by doing these two things I am able to get 17hrs+ on a standard HTC EVO 4G battery. Keep in mind the more you use the Internet the more it will drain your battery. So I only turn the internet connection on when I need it or the app needs it.
*I also only use one screen and remove unnecessary widgets but I find that doesn't help the battery life all that much, (my personal Preference)
*When I or my sons game on my phone I put it on Airplane more which turns off all Radios including the Phone (call/text)
*Drawback to turning 3G off, you have to wait a few second for the internet to come back on and MMS won't download through your messenger unless have it one.
I've been off the charge for 8hrs and my battery life is still at 65%

Completely agree. What's the point. Either you don't use your phone for ANYTHING, and watch the battery last for 2 weeks (literally), or you use it so heavily that it lasts only 2 hours....
I was sick recently, and as such couldn't use my phone (I couldn't open my eyes without getting dizzy, and even closed.... still was). Suddenly my HTC Inspire 4G used only 20% of the battery in 10 hours. The previous day, heavy mail, "friendstream" (HTC's facebook/twitter/etc app/widget), listening to music (well, audiobooks) for about 8 hours, and I had only 20% left. And i've found that overclocking the phone to 1.3GHz helps more than any other tweak.
Don't get me wrong, I'm obsessive about using my phone *and* getting awesome battery life out of it. But the ONLY way to true "maximize" your battery life is to *minimize* your usage. But then you might as well buy a feature phone.
And I know a few people with iPhones. a 3GS and a 4 and a 4S. They don't get any better battery life than I do. Heck, they get worse. Even under the same type of usage.
For me, the problem isn't the usage, isn't what's running, or what's loaded (but it does help/hurt). The problem is that battery technology has NOT kept up with consumer needs, or IT development. Your battery is dying as soon as it leaves the factory. Your battery is dying every time you change it. Especially when it gets hot. your battery dies faster when it's cold outside. We need better energy storage medium. Period.
Buy the biggest battery I can find on eBay....
Use the fsck out of my phone all day and have plenty of battery left.

I don't think the use of WiFi could be overstated.
On my Skyrocket, leaving Wifi on (indoors), it'll sip about 1% every hour. I go out and have 4G LTE on, it drinks up about 3% every hour.
Minimizing widgets also helps. I saw noticeably better battery after removing my facebook and Latitude widgets.
The screen also sucks up the most battery. Turn it off on every occasion. Just turning it off instead of letting it shut off by itself has made a difference for me.

Battery technology has kept up with usage. However, battery size in relation to the power draw, has not.
Compare the size of the back cover on your phone, with the size of the battery. Why is the battery this tiny little 2" square, when the phone is 5" tall and 2.5" wide? Why aren't batteries the same height/width as the phone? Why isn't the battery the same size as the back cover? Why aren't phone manufacturers optimising the size of the battery (meaning, making it as big as possible)?
It would be so nice if phone manufacturers would stop with this stupid "race to the thinnest" crap, and started:
- releasing phones that are actually comfortable to hold like a phone
- releasing phones with batteries larger than a pack of matches

Actually, keeping a battery cool makes it last longer, not drain faster.

could you be more specific as to what you do on your phone? is your phone the international version or the USA T-mobile version.

Tmobile, stock everything and I had the battery issue on my first HOS. I just got my replacement and Im running the same apps, same calls, same eveything as the first phone but i get a significant more battery life. The battery on the replacement HOS lasted me the entire day, but I still carry a charger around just incase.

My TMo One S battery life recently went through the roof for some reason. I can only attribute it to one of the following or perhaps luck:
I've been charging it at end of day regardless of charge but I finally let the charge get below 25% -- I think it got to 15%. Then I powered it down and let it charge 12 hours overnight.
I disabled all Facebook related apps.
Other than that I can't recall anything I did recently that might account for my new super battery. But I'm at 1d 4h 25m on battery -- most of that on WiFi granted -- and still have 42% juice. I'll take it!
I always have my charger because I'm a twitter whore. I recommend disabling any bloat ware or duplicate app like Facebook For HTC or Twitter For HTC. And make sure you change settings for each app you use and don't use.

I'm using my phone very much, with Facebook and games and such, and I still get through the day without hesitate! I think it's wonderful
my battery life was poor on stock rom aswell. went trough a day only. had to charge every day. but now with noble v3 rom and being tiny bit more careful with use i have battery for 2 days
Battery life on this phone is better than most and I give it that. The only problem I have is the quick drop from 100% to 92% in a hour from little to light usage.

I'm on stock Tmo US and have been getting amazing battery life. I took it off the charger when I left for work at 7:30am and I'm at 75% at 8:50pm.
That's with quite a bit of texting, pics taken at work, and 45 minutes of web browsing while I was on lunch. Granted, I don't do Facebook, so that may help.
This is the first phone I've been lazy about rooting because it's worked so well so far.

I get decent battery life as well, but how do you manage only a 25% drop with over 12 hours of on time whic included a bunch of texting which keeps the screen on while u text and 45 min of browsing. Seems too good
I just got my One S less than a week ago. Love ICS. Battery life has been about 10 to 12 hours with medium amount of use. Facebook is disabled. I'm using active sync to sync to my exchange server and push frequency. (that continually goes out but that's for a different thread I guess).
I charge over night as I've done with my Dinc2, original Dinc, and all flavors of blackberry.
Last night I used a digital clock app while it was charging and in the morning at 8:30 where I unplugged, it had 100%. It's now just past 11 in the morning and with email, one short phone call and some light surfing, I'm already down to 62%.
I have noticed the phone is hot which means it's working hard to do something.
I have WiFi off and GPS off as well as location services. Should I return it for a new handset? Should I just go back to Verizon and get an iPhone?? Ugh.

What's your "screen on" time? Have you changed any connectivity settings, that may have increased your battery life a lot?
If the phone is hot then something is running in the background you should probably figure out what that is and disable it before you do anything. Now with exchange servers set up on your phone they do tend to eat some battery. That's universal though. Sounds like to do have a rogue app though. As for me this past Monday I took the phone off the charger at 430am and didn't have to return it to the charger til 11pm mostly because I was going to bed. I watched netflix, text, phone calls, Web surfed.... Love this device.

To you and the other person that asked, I think it really has to do with cell signal strength.
I posted those numbers after coming home from work where I have awesome cell coverage.
Today I've been home all day, and even though I'm on WiFi all day, my cell signal is horrible here. WiFi or not, it's still searching for a signal constantly so I've lost 30% in 6 hours with moderate use.
Now, as I said before, I don't use facebook or friendstream, but I think a lot of it is the radio constantly searching for a better signal.
I also think that either bad signal or just 3G takes a lot of battery.
I switched to 2G only just as an experiment, where I get a good signal almost constantly. This extended my battery life quite a lot. Where I usually had 10-20% left after a full day, I had 50% left with only 2G. I have also been using WiFi where available.
Can this be a software bug since there is such a big difference? I've noticed before that phone calls suck a lot of juice...

2G is known to use much less battery life in every phone you check it.
Take a look at GSMarena on phone specifications in the bottom and you'll see the great difference.
BTW, looking on the battery test GSMArena did for the One S, it's quite in good place for the 3G calling and Video playback but uses a lot of battery on WEB browsing, see here
Might be that we the ones with low battery are more surfing than the others...

Battery Monitor Widget. Logging current consumption is the only way to get to the bottom of the problem.
I'm talking with the author to get the kinks worked out of the One S logging.
*but* for some reasons something is keeping the phone awake at times. current drain is then 70-80mA constant. Not been able to find the culprit, but a reboot helps.

I had the same issue-downloaded 2x battery from the market and it is much better. ( I have syncing with twitter, fb, gmail, mobile life all enabled)
I could barely get through the day. Seems the phone does a lot when syncing etc and this stops that, or at least limits it to the interval of your choice. every 10 I believe with the free version.
Try it-I am sure it will help. (I also turn the brightness down as I am mostly indoors-and put it on auto outside-but that is just me)

Actually, due to the fact that every time I check the usage of battery screen is in top place (with Auto brightness all the time) and the fact I'm syncing with FB, Gmail, Exchange server and more, I guess the best thing to do is to lower Screen brightness...

Background: I use my phone I'd say medium use. Clash of clans, videos and photos browsing, emails, whatsapp. But i hate to put anything off so 4G location bluetooth everything always on. My note 4 has been amazing with its removable battery allowing me to use a phone in this way amd has revolutionised the enjoyment i get out of it. No more switching on and off bluetooth or gps. No worries in the world. Now i need a new one with a big screen and decent enough cam and the only option with removable battery is the LG V20 which to be fair looks a decent phone. However I also see the Mate 9 and whilst it doesn't have removeable battery it has a sensible screen res and a 4000mah battery meaning it should last a full day no worries. And I prefer the faster Kirin 960 and the bokeh camera setup.
The issue: i was on the verge of ordering it when I came across techzillas 1 month review where basically trashes the battery. Yes he's a heavy user but he's comparing it to other phones which do better with his same use.
I don't understand. Is it his firmware? Has the issue been sorted? Is the battery not that great afterall? Id be buying from wondamobile so id be getting whatever international rom they use. Shall I just play it safe and get the lesser V20 if I'm going to keep all things on?
For me it seams​ that with the b156 firmware the battery is not as good as before. But still excellent I use my phone a lot and most of the time I manage a full day with out charging. I get around 8 hours screen time. I never play games on my phone but use it mostly for productivity and browsing. Occasionally I watch some movies , YouTube and listen to tidal.
Most of the time I use very low brightness as I prefer this for reading.

Ah.. I'm new to this of concept of SOT. I don't know how it works. I can't imagine anyone sitting there staring at their phone literally for 8 hours! I work in the day and use it every now and then there, then when home when the wife isn't having a spazz at me for daring to go on the phone I use it now and then for using Kodi remote and youtube etc... I don't know how much screen on time that'd equate to.
Do you keep all things like bluetooth and GPS and 4G on or do you have to be careful with it like with all my old phones in order to get a full day? With my Note 4 as I say a breath of fresh air that I could keep everything on and just change battery once I got home.
Everything is on, during the day I mostly use 4G. The reason I get between 6 and 8 hours is because I have to do a lot of emailing and maintaining appointments etc for my work and blackberry hub is so good in emailing (mush better than the outlook my company uses) I use my phone for that instead of my laptop. Also I do lots of reading both work an pleasure related.
If i have slow days I can manage two days on one charge easily. In short the mate 9 has an excellent battery. I'm never thinking about the battery as I did with my old phones it seems to be even better than my old BlackBerry Passport
It's the best battery life of any phone I have used. Mine is on 4g all day with GPS and bluetooth always on.
My previous best phone was the Note 4 that I had to charge every night. I only have to charge the Mate 9 on alternate nights however hard I use it.
I have other issues with the Mate 9, but the battery is certainly not one of them.

Wow ok that's surprising. No idea what this techzilla dude is on about then on youtube. He seems quite an honest and credible chap so I wonder if it's firmware related or perhaps he got a dud.

As above, I'm surprised it's this good after the techzilla trashign of the battery on youtube. You wouldn't know yur firmware would you?
What are your issues with it? I hear low light cam performance isn't excellent but it isn't great with my Note 4 either and I can't imagine it's ever satisfactory with the size of lens you can get on any phone. I'm looking to use the Bokeh effect for nice pics of my daughter, is this bit at least working well?

I'm on L29C432B156. I haven't noticed any loss of battery life after two upgrades.
I think I have to most recent one. All I can think of maybe the guy plays allot of games or has some rogue app on his phone eating all the battery life. In any case most reviews are positive about the battery so if one dude that dislikes it does sound like an isolated incident.

Yeah the more I look into it the more I think this is the case.
He seems like a nice decent likable chap who I'm assuming doesn't have a bias either way. But according to his "heavy use", when people say they're getting much better battery than his alleged figures he defines in his comments his heavy use as:
" i stream music from Spotify, watch YouTube, i have 5 email accounts syncing constantly, i get around 1000 emails an hour, 7 to 800 Telegram msgs an hour, fb,twitter, instagram, fb msg, /google Plus, snapchat, youtube studio, surfing the web, a couple of hrs phone calls, text messages, XDA, 500 Whats App msgs per Hour. This is how i test batterty life, and for me the Mate 9 can't deliver more than 6hrs SOT"
All I can say to that is WOW! Who on earth links five emails, gets 1000 emails AN HOUR, 100s of telegrams whatever they are, 500whatsapp messages PER HOUR (I mean that's one every 7.2 seconds!!!!). with loads of other stuff running and TWO HOURS of calls etc etc.. If doing all that with everything on he's getting 6 hours SOT then I can say I'm mightily impressed with it! Even heavy users wouldn't be be using it that much I'm sure. And if he can honestly say he gets the same SOT with iphones and samsungs with more powerful screens and smaller batteries all I can say is at worst I frankly don't believe it, at best he's got a dud Mate 9 or more likely all the aforementioned phones are awesome and we have nothign to worry about as 6 hrs SOT with a whatsapp message every 7.2seconds and an email every 3.6seconds plus all the other **** running is very respectable.

The Note 5 with:
BT ON Connected to huawei watch
GPS off
No Autosync
All apps killed
No calls
15 texts per day max
Packages disabled
1-2 hours of screen use tops
I Got maximum 13 hours. I get up every day at 8am and by 7-745 its nearly dead doing next to nothing. Android will not sleep and samsung refuses to accept its their software. My Mate 9, buds Moto Z play both on tmobile never have issues. he gets 8-9 hours screen time i get 8-9 hours screen time charge once every 2-3 days.
My Settings are EXACTLY the same with the exception of:
BT off when not using my Sony M1000x headphones.
300+ textsPer day.
No calls
Checking FB via Metal for FB
Email in Gmail 5-6 times a day
Camaro Forums via chrome browser
Instagram
Spotify + many more apps
And i never have issues. Granted i exchanged it because the B156/157 idk which one ruined battery. i have a B138 fw now and it works flawlessly. Its pathetic samsunbg phones barely make it through the day even when NOT used. Im dropping samsung and sprint very soon.

But for what it is worth I will tell you the points I do not like about the Mate 9.
The vibration is very weak.
The notification light is tiny and almost invisible except in the dark.
The GPS is poor and no good for sports use.
There are various problems with notifications and some email apps don't work properly.
All these problems are discussed in this forum.

The GPS worries me - I use GPS a lot for visiting clients, is it not accurate or good enough?
And will the normal gmail app work ok?

whatever the reason is i bet every user have diff usage n diff type of apps running in their phone,but all i can say this phone can last me from 7.30 til 11.30pm with everything on(except for BT n NFC) and most of the time i m on 4g,i can get 6-7 hours of SOT with whatsapp,email,telegram heavy chrome browsing,youtubing,xda-ing,some gaming(coc,skyforce).and when i wanted to go tl bed at 11.30 it still have 20% left

The GPS is fine for ordinary driving use, and it gets a fix very quickly. But there are some serious issues that Huawei aren't mending.

Right now I have 89% left, 10 hours active, 33 mins SOT. I think I got 7h SOT yesterday and still 50% left.
Compared to my Note 4 which barely lasts 12 hours, and that's idle time.

Ah i see thanks.
Thats disappointing. I may wish ti get back into cycling and if it cant track my ride accurately it sounds like a dud. How ridiculous! Just as i was about to buy one another problem pops up.
I wonder if huawei just aren't ready for making phones...!
It's a shame, yes. There are of course many good things about the Mate 9. They just let it down on a few things.
my mate 9 gets 9-10 hours of heavy use - granted i have some mods and tweaks
