Thanks! - G Tablet General

I just flashed my Gtab to TnTlite and it went smoothly. I was nervous as hell but all went well!
Thanks!

Vegan versus TnTLite?

From what I've seen there are 3 devs working on Vegan and 1 on TnTLite. There also seem to be a ton more adopters of Vegan.
Currently I'm running TnTLite 3.1.4 because the first root/mod thread I landed on pointed toward 2.2.0. Is Vegan a better system though? Why is it garnering all the interest?

Longs story short... they are all working together. Rothnic, Roebeet, and GoJimi are all working on the VegaN together. When these tabs were first released (early November) and all the Hype started I believe that Roebeet was the first to successfully rip TNT apart to develop a more 'vanilla' version, hence the TNT Lite. About the same time Rothnic got a hold of the ZPAD (international version on GTab) firmware and started making it work here. I don't have all the details about where GoJimi came from but I think that he was working in quietly in the background with both of these guys (ahhhh the rumors). When the Advent Vega firmware came out they all decided to collaborate together to help develop a ROM based on that. I think that each has their own 'talent' and decide to work together to provide yet another option.
At, least I think that's how it all came about?
Between the three available ROMS it's all about personal preference. Like buying a car; it's just what suits you. The nice thing about the way all is set up is that technically you can test drive all three of them within an hour and decide for yourself.
Good Luck!
I personally, use TNT Lite. I went over to Vegan Tab for a short bit, then went back to TNT. I think I just got used to TNT and that is why I went back. There was nothing wrong with Vegan Tab, as it had a few different enhancements. However, TNT, felt like "the one" for me. We have been married for a month and a half now and couldn't be more happier.
I use TnT Lite myself. I tried an early build of Vegan, but TnT for me just seems to feel right for the GTab. But I agree with it2steve, both are excellent and it just comes down to personal preference. I suggest trying them both out, as well as CyanogenMod 6.1, and see which is right for you.
I guess that it is a very popular question for new Gtablet owners. there are several threads discussing the Pros and Cons of each ROM and there was a poll for it as well.
I like Tnt Lite for some features and I also like Vegan for the general UI. Just wondering will we see a hybrid version of TntVegan.
Actually, I am finding more fun to switch from one ROM to another ROM in a few weeks to try something new. I was on tnt lite 2.2, Vegan beta3, tnt lite 3.1.3, Vegan beta5.1 and then I am back to tnt lite 3.1.4.
I backup through CWM each time and I use Titianium backup to back up every apps I use.. (and it takes about 1 hour for me to switch ROM and restore most of my apps).
I have an N1, it is my first Android phone. I've been using plain old stock Android since the 2.1 days. I was convinced by users at another site I frequent to get a GTab.
Personally thought it'd be fun to play around with the GTab and make it function correctly through rooting (I had never done it before). I heard it was a great piece of hardware with a substandard operating system and purchasable at a great deal. Since purchasing it, I've been reading about development focused on GTab at XDA developers forums. The GTab is a very nice piece of hardware and I enjoy seeing the potential of it being unlocked day by day.
I've used both TnT Lite and Vegan. I only briefly played with stock TnT and almost immediately learned how to flash TnT Lite. In my opinion, it was alright, definitely better than TnT, but not what I was expecting when I first bought the GTab.
Since it was quite simple getting TnT Lite on the GTab, I considered flashing Cyanogen, but the lack of consistent updates made me reconsider, especially with the constant updates to TnT Lite and Vegan.
I've since moved on to Vegan which more closely matches stock Android in comparison to TnT Lite and I am quite happy with it.
My girlfriend was using my GTab while her piece of junk 1st gen MacBook was being worked on. Since getting it back, even after a complete data wipe and new OS install by a friend who works at Apple, it still doesn't function correctly, so now it just sits in the corner of the room and she uses my GTab when browsing the web and watching streaming video.
To my understanding, the XDA GTab community has just accessed the second core of the GTab's processor, so for me at least, these are exciting times indeed. The GTab has preformed better than expected and now, someday soon, it'll only get better.
If only there was a way to port over or convert iOS apps and games, I know my friends would all jump ship from iPad...well, I guess that kinda goes without saying.
I am a relative newbie to the gtab scene. I waited on the stock rom for the update from viewsonic, but due to many ongoing stability issues i decided to root and rom my tablet. I personally enjoy switching and updating, but i have tried both vegan and tnt lite. I really enjoy tnt lite, but its a personal choice. I just constantly check back, awaiting more updates and to see this tablet get faster and more "tablet like."
Both are good, take a look to a small poll that I create some time ago. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894578
I like Tnt lite, but I think Vegan is a hair more stable.
I get less FC from Vegan.
But I like the features of Tnt lite.
BTW, which one is closer to stock android?
ive tried tnt and vegan and prefer vegan... but maybe thats because it works like id expect? not different and "tablet like". works almost as good as my phone! lol.. i wish we could get some of the phone guys over here to make roms! my phones rom is light years ahead of vegan...(pheonix) i wonder if those lil perks just cant happen on this tab? like power control in the drop down notification area.. seems like a no brainer if your making a rom? but vegan does work well, and fast... not a fan of the tnt look, reminds me of the nightmare stock set up!! i hated it...
but hopefully the roms get better and this tablet really shines!
Thanks for the backstory! I had been dying for an iPad but knew I really wanted something I could use cards/usb to get stuff in and out. I HATE being locked in like they do. But while the EPAD APAD stuff on ebay doesn't sound bad for $200 I wanted more and I didn't want to have it shipped from China. I was holding out for the NotionInk Adam but who knows if that'll ever happen.
With the stars aligned and all bills paid just after Christmas I had enough sitting there to do something. Just by chance I came across a link to the gtablet on sale at SEARS. I'd come across one in Office Depot a week before but dismissed it after seeing the stock TNT. Once I saw all the rooting/moding I RAN to Sears.
Purchase made I went for TnTLite 2.2.0 first cause that's the link I found, ran that way a while and then jumped to 3.1.4 about 2 days before jumping to Vegan51. I still have the backup of Lite 3.1.4 but I don't think I'm going back to it. I've already begun learning the interface and altering the icon spacing and all that fun stuff.
Just updated the kernal mod from cygna(sp)...today. It just seems to move faster and I actually like the front screen lock. Anyhow, very happy to have found the forum and that the devs are creating something we can actually USE with this hardware. Stock TNT = no purchase. I'd already walked away.
Glad I found that Sears ad
Tried both tntlite and vegan....prefer vegan..

First flash was TnT-lite 2.0, right after I unpacked it and let it fully charge. Second tab, bought about a week later, went thru zPad and VegaN, a couple of days on each Rom, but eventually ended with TnT-lite. I prefer the "tablet like" feel of it. The other Room's are pretty solid, but reminiscent a phone too much.

I USED to be Stock...

I started trying to keep things as stock as possible, but too many FCs and finally the android.process.acore error broke my (stock) back. As much as I resisted initially, I quickly went down the CWM, NVFLASH (it rocks!), repartition (2048-0) route. Tried TnTLite but preferred Vegan interface. It is working great--only rare, app-specific FCs.
So I wanted to share story with devs and info posters here because of all the great instructionals, downloads and awesome development coming out of this forum. Keep up the great work and thanks a bunch!
Same story with me
I also was staying with a stock Gtab until the acore issue. I finally changed to TnT-lite back around version 2.0 and have been there ever since. My experience is a little different in that I recently tried Vegan and then returned to TnT-lite because I find the TnT-lite version better for me (probably just what I am used to as opposed to any real differences).
Welcome to the dark side.

Which rom is better

Which rom is better in your opinion? Vegan or TNT
I have enjoyed Vegan more, only because i couldn't get the market to fix in tnt, but first try with vegan and it worked. That may be because i was doing something wrong in tnt, but that's it. I've been using vegan for 2 weeks now and i'ts very solid.
Which is better
I've tried TnT and VEGAn. TnT bombed the first time when I loaded 4.0. I switched to VEGAn and it worked straight away. I did, call me a sucker, go back and TnT 4.2.2 is working great for me. Only thing I miss from VEGAn is the ability to lock the screen.
What's in 4.2 that isn't in 4.1? I'm using 4.1 and everything is working. I am considering 4.2 but would like to know what the difference is. Do you know?
When I first got my gtab last week I flashed TnT. I was able to get the market running, but after a few hours it would pop a gapps error, and I would run the market fix again. Had to do this a few times a day.
I wiped and flashed Vegan and have been running it for the last 4 days with no issues. The lock screen is awesome and have had zero issues with the market
Highly recommend Vegan!

After messing around with the five or so availale ROMS, I decided to make the VEGAn 5.1 beta my daily driver, it and TnT lite are the most stable IMHO, I chose VEGAn over TnT because the news and weather genie was absent from TnT and the VEGAn web browser offers much more flexibility as far as options go. I'm a news junkie!
Also the On-Screen soft keys on the notification bar [HOME, MENU, and BACK] are fantastic additions to VEGAn since the keys on the device don't light up, which makes it real [email protected]%# when using the device in a poorly lighted room so that would be wonderful if that feature was kept.
I have to agree with Vegan. I bought my pad two days ago and decided to go with Vegan. Flash and the Market are already installed. And having the menu, home, and back on the screen really makes getting around easier.
Now If I can just figure out how to use the host USB port.
I would have to say vegan.
I like the notification bar on TNT better, but I find Vegan just slightly more solid.

Recently installed GAdam 1.1.0 and love it. Real nice and pretty simple UI. Running very stable. Didn't try Quad yet, played Angry Birds thou (LOL). Smooth transitions no FC on any app I tried. So, I believe I found the one I like and will stick with it till Honeycomb comes out (keep my fingers and toes crossed LOL).
vegan i would say
Also been running VEGAn - TAB V1.0.0B5.1
Several weeks now works without issues.

You can always check the changelog. It's usually a mix of enhancements and stock updates. Some are minor changes, some are more major.
4.2.0 updated the TnT base to stock 3588. And I added the Gingerbread keyboard and upped the frame rate to 60.
Same here..Vegan. Running about a month with no isses. Posted a 1825 on Quad. Am happy!
I gotta cast my vote for Tnt. I've been running it since January, and have had no issues at all, and the market fix worked like a charm. The one thing I will say is, I have a 5 year old who loves to play angry birds and play a drawing game, and she is at home with TnT which is the main reason I haven't tried a different ROM.
My vote is for VEGAn, I just couldn't get the hulu fix to work on TnT and when I flashed VEGAn onto my tab last night worked right away. I also got all 5 stars on the market.
I have had my gtab for about 2 weeks now and tried out TNT as a first shot and it was good till installed some app and scrambled it. After that I kept getting FC's all the time.
Decided to go to the gAdam yesterday and I must say it seem to be solid. I have not had any problems with the market, like I have seen else where, and I just love the interface.
Rock on guys keep up the great work on all of the roms.
A big thanks to all of the devs who are working on the gTab.
i just picked up this tablet for my sister and chose to go with TnT Lite 4.2/4.2.5 to speed it up a little bit and so she can download some games and apps.
i ran a quadrant score against my rooted Xoom (not overclocked) and got the same scores, between 2000-2100ish.
no problems whatsoever with this TnT rom and i am quite impressed at the speed of it. at times it seems snappier/quicker then my Xoom.
TnT Lite is what I am currently running. Of course there are a few things I dont but there are a lot of things I do like. Is a great stable rom. The widgets take up way to much space in landscape mode.
I also have played with Vegan, but have an issue with the switching of landscape mode. The standard home screen doesn't switch! Otherwise its a great rom.
have had mine for about 2 weeks.
i just installed caulkin's 1.0 ROM, then put clemsyn's patch on it got CIFS.
i was running Vegan for a week before that.
i would like to switch to the stock or NI browser, and i should have backed up the NI keyboard before going to caulkin's. but i'll figrure out how to download and put them on as APK.s

who here had a sluggish TF in the beginning and now it's working flawlessly?

Well.. mine is at least. I almost wanted to return the damn thing when I first got it about a month ago. Not sure why it's working flawlessly now, maybe it's due to all the updates. But it is working prefectly now! no more deep sleep problems, no more random disconnect from wifi. heck, even the browser is working nicely now!! Hope I didn't jinx myself..
sigh.
it's not magical or by chance that it's working now.
It's the update.
Mine has pretty much worked the same since day one. No real lag except in videos.
i sideloaded the 3.1 leaked update and at first it was coughing up some lags, esp noticeable when flipping between homescreens even with a static wallpaper. now its running buttery smooth, from homescreens, virtual and physical keyboard functions, app and browser opening and closing, and overall browser performance. its been 2 days since i sideloaded, and havent really tweaked anything.
I haven't loaded the leaked 3.1 yet, still waiting for the official OTA to pop up on my screen. however my experience is a bit the opposite, it was pretty smooth at the beginning, but in the last few days things started getting a bit sluggish.
One reason might be Firefox, as it did the same on my Desire HD, and when I checked settings/applications, I realized it was using around 510MB space... so I deleted all data, and the Desire went back to normal. Might do the same to my Transformer and hope it'll fix things, though I'd be loosing all history, synced stuff etc...not so great.

Mine has been fine. I am basically running stock.
I've not tried the 3.1 update yet but noticed the biggest difference moving from stock to launcherpro....the animations and general feel are a lot smoother with instant reponse now.

[Q] Trinity issues

Picked up an S3 on Monday, had it rooted and unlocked that night, spent a couple of days tinkering then decided to go a little bigger.
Flashed Trinity A7 last night, everything worked great up until I turned the phone...rotation is backwards. Searched on it and saw that the Sprint flavor will have that problem, but it was definitely the VZW build (TGST-STOCK-VZW-ICS-LF2e-LG1-ALPHA7.zip). Tried flashing the latest TMO/ATT build from derkernel; booted but ran into com.android.phone and SystemUI FCs. Used CASUAL to flash back to stock, it's working OK but now WiFi is dead. I've spent the last hour and a half searching teh intarwebz, no luck. Any suggestions?
ed - I'd like to get Trinity working as well as fixing WiFi...actually that's more of a priority; LTE is sufficient for the time being. Moar power!
Try to reprovision your phone.
On stock rom only type *2767*3855# in the dialer. This will wipe your data, so back up your business.
Sent from my VZW GS3 running Synergy/Trinity/Dark Horse Rises
Soo fixing perms and reinstalling Trinity fixed WiFi but rotation is still backwards. Double-U Tee Eff. Any ideas on the rotation?
ed - flashed back to stock kernel, no WiFi. So right now it's either Trinity+WiFi with a backwards landscape or stock+landscape with no WiFi. Running stock for the time being.

Interesting, I can tell you that I run Trinity A7 with Synergy r73 and landscape is fine. Even so, I see several mentions of this issue in the Trinity kernel thread here.

Yeah, my google-fu was really bad this morning...I wasn't searching for "landscape". Stupid. I flashed KT747 and everything's running great so far with debloated stock.
