[Q] Does the Optimus 3D have gorilla glass? (Yes I have an OCD thing about Scratches) - LG Optimus 3D

Did not find the Optimus 3D listed on the Corning list of Featured Products:
corninggorillaglass.com/featured-products
Neither could I find it on any of the specs on the internet
If any one has access to verify this, please put my soul to rest. In the meanwhile, I shall pray to the scratch resistant gods for a can of unlimited diamond coating spray...

Yes,Gorilla glass.

how did you know?on this website http://www.corninggorillaglass.com/featured-products the isn't LG Optimus 3D

they have to update the list

From where do you have this info?

I'm not one of those "let's see what this screwdriver will do to my screen" types but the glass absolutely feels scratch resistant. My gut tells me it's as hardened as my Galaxy S's screen though I have no data to back it up.

Contrary to what LG Italy says...I'm going to say it DOESN'T. Reason being, I have NEVER scratched any of my phones, until this one. The scratch came QUITE EASILY(normal in and out of pocket) and it pisses me off as I'm OCD about scratches as well!

I bought mine from gummobile UK, so it hasn't gorilla glass? I was wondering if I should attach screen protector or not?

My Optimus 2x has gorilla glass we have 3 of those here in the company, first two bought about 3 months ago and last one about 1 month ago. The first two (mine is one of those two) are scratch free no little scratch anywhere, the last one bought is completely scratched up already (I could not believe it when I first saw it!), but yes his previous phone was also full of scratches! It depends on the user that uses it.
My Optimus 3D is scratch free and it's always in my pocket sometimes even with keys, but I try to avoid that.

I've just got an email from LG UK and they are confirming that the O3D DOESN'T have gorilla-glass.
I'm quoting what they sent to my email "We can confirm that the LG Optimus 3D handset does not have an gorilla-glass screen."

Thanks for confirming. Seemed obvious to me when my handset scratched so easily!

I had a desire s with gorrila glass and it scratched way to easily for my likeing.
it was in my pocket with a rouge 5 pence piece and i was amazed how bad it was scratched. I did wonder if some screens are harder than others ? ie from poor quality control.

If there is no gorilla glass at our O3D then what glass it has ?

why LG Italy said to some people on twiiter that this phone has got goriila glass?

any news ?

omg I wanna cry.... but this is good to know.... don't drop it from ear height or perhaps shoulder height if you're a bit taller then this guy... and as long as you don't carry razor blades in your pocket, there's need for a screen protector
I hate you for making me cringe, but thanks for the post
Yeah, kinda bummed I put a screeen protector on. Prob. take it off now.
Yea I put one on and the screen didnt look as nice as when its bare. Whats the point of having these beautiful displays if u r going to cover it. I have a bare screen right now and it's amazing !!!!!

i had a ClearProtector on my vibrant but it looked too dirty and old so i put it off and now is shiny like diamond (?)
If you guys have been in the Accessories part of the Captivate forum.. you'll hear alot of people's opinions with different screen protectors.
Such as me who's currently rocking me some PhantomSkinz.. I seriously don't notice I have a screen protector on unless I try to dig my nail into the protector lol but why would I do that!? Not to mention it doesn't really have that rubbery texture.
It's really awesome. if you're not a fan of PhantomSkinz someone said SGP skin protectors are awesome. The user even said it actually made the touchscreen much more sensitive to the touch. just a heads up for those who aren't sure about screen protectors.
The video btw shows some scratches on the device .. a lot actually.. so reconsider if you value your phone's looks
Screen protectors belong on cheap plastic panels. I enjoy my phone so much more when touching glass. Just make sure to get a BlackBerry like sleeve for putting it in your pockets. Since going bare, I will never allow plastic screen guards to deface my touch devices again.

Lots of discussions on this in other forums. Some people swear the phone doesn't have gorilla glass, some do. The vague press release (dated the 24th of august i think) says that Samsung uses Gorilla glass in the galaxy S handset - but it doesn't mention which ones. Engadget ran the story and claimed that all US Galaxy S varieties have gorilla glass. Corning mentions that is part of the AMOLED manufacturing process.
It seems that Gorilla glass is in the phones - it would not make sense to make different AMOLED sandwiches when they are so expensive to start with - but I would love to see something official that says "The Captivate uses Gorilla Glass".

I would like to see the same. I have a small scratch on my screen from being in my pocket. Its one of those scratches you cant see unless the light reflects off the screen just right and the screen off. I know its there but its not noticable. Plus i dont ever keep anything in my pocket where my phone is other than my phone. thats why im iffy about the captivate having gorilla glass.
I got tired of having a screen protector and ripped mine off a week and a half ago. If the screen is not Gorilla Glass, its is still better than anything I have had on a phone a before. The plastic on the top front part of my phone has a few scratches on it, but I have yet to get a scratch on the screen. Only thing I am using now is the Bodyglove case. The screen feels so much better.
... Despite the fact that it is gorilla glass ( or not? ) my screen have two light small scratches on it... and i ' baby ' my phone too. >.>
This article gives confirmation:

[I wanted to post a link to my other post describing my experiences with Gorilla glass but I am not allowed to post a link, so I'll just repeat my message.]
Unfortunately I found out the hard way that Gorilla glass doesn't prevent scratches on the screen. The phone is only 2 months old, I am using it with a silicone skin and no screen-protector. The phone is always in my jeans-pocket, without anything else in it. And still there is a small scratch (2mm) and a dot...
I guess I have to go to screenprotectors. I cannot trust the claims of Samsung and Gorilla glass anymore. :-(

Built-in Screen Guard
I live in India, and "I think" the P500 here comes with a screen guard. There's this plastic screen which seems to be layered over the black screen bezel on my phone. I tried chipping it, and the edge of the plastic did seem to come off. So how do I know for sure.
Its highly probable the Indian version comes with a screen guard, since we pretty much get a fully loaded phone, along with 40 odd apps (Incl NDrive and Layar) and support for Flash 10.1.
i got a zagg full body protection and to me thats the best buy...i have it on my devices and quality is superb. also doesnt have that rubbery feeling and residue i get from others.
i swear best 20bucks i spent.
Ordered a full body from Zagg, thanks for the tips!
But there isn't optimus one on zagg. Is cover for optimus T equal to optimus one?

I just finished installing the full body protection, allthough the buttons and the silver binding aren't protected, is this normal? Or did I forget to put on something.
Also the squeezee tool you get for leveling the protector actually scratched the protector.
This isn't much of a big deal but kinda strange that a little plastic could scratch this millitary-grade material that easely. Did this happen to anybody else?

Holycrap, how did your P500 come with support for Flash 10.1? Mine also came with a screen protector, I'm in Australia. I thought all phones were supposed to come with them as long as you buy it from a reputable shop? On the top left of the screen protector, there's a square cut out and I have absolutely no idea what its for lol. But its the original cover and I've had no problems with it so far.

Well i just put on the Zagg Full Body Protection and now just leaving it over night to let it settle down. But yea looks great so far and i'll post some pictures in the following days for the end result.
Lol I'm from India and no we do NOT have flash 10.1 support, it just says so on the box and now newer models ship without that flash thingy written, so yeah.
The plastic that comes with the phone its just a temp protector, after a while itll peel out, start losing stickiness, become annoying, etc, its the same that covers every electronic screen/glossy part, a thin annoying film
My Xtremeguard arrived a few weeks ago, so far so good, applying it is a bit annoying but meh .

I just emailed HTC asking this question. I'll let you know when/if I get a response.
Edit: Yea, not helpful..
Dear Greg,
I know that having the screen information is very important to you. We know that the screen is not Gorilla Glass, or the manual would say this with a brand marker. We do not know the material of the screen, since we are only the technical support department. The only information we have is that the screen is 4.3 inch WVGA resolution with pinch-to-zoom.

I just spoke with an HTC service rep and he has no knowledge of Dow listing Inspire 4g as using the Gorilla glass and also he has heard of an incident where a dropped Inspire 4G ended up with a cracked display. I just sent an inquiry to Grilla Glass website about the timeline where HTC started to use their product so hopefully they'll write me back with an answer. I am tired of using screen protecter no matter how great they may look.

You do realize that gorilla glass can be cracked and scratched right? I cracked the screen on my captivate quite easily. Gorilla glass is better than normal glass but not impervious to breakage.
I believe gorilla glass is resistant to scratches however such properties make it easier to shatter. I may be incorrect but that is how I understand it.
Gorilla Glass.
Seems they're using it on all the HTC products with capacative screens. However, I still use a screen protector anyway.

Regarding the importance of the brand name 'Gorilla Glass', I wouldn't discount other phones that might use a similar technology but call it a different name. We often refer to a class of products by their brand names (Ketchup, Kleenex, Q-tip, Coke, BandAid) forgetting there are a bunch of very high quality products that perform the same function and in many cases can be even better than the original.

I think that means it's Gorilla Glass, I talked to a guy from ATT Tech who seemed to know the Android products pretty well and I mentioned that I had been told about some "Military grade glass?" and he said "Yeah, it's got Gorilla Glass.." HTC, and many others might not want it known but the Inspire's on Corning's website and I don't think it's a free advertisement.

Gorilla Glass my Arse!

OK, just noticed a bloody scratch on the phone. It's in my pocket (on it's own, nothing EVER goes in the same pocket as my phone) and when not in my pocket it's face up on my desk at work or on the coffee table at home so I've no idea how it happened
Would anyone here look to get it replaced as I'm tempted to?
Gorilla Glass is simply not scratch proof
Compared to other screens(displays) it is more durable, but it is still possible to brake and/or scratch it.
If I was within my 14 days I'd return it, they didn't check any of the phones I returned for scratches and what not...just for the problems I stated.

Then why do shops/operators say it will stop scratches? My Desire has lasted 14 months without a scratch, albeit in a case with a screen protector. I've not got one yet for the Sensation as of this Gorilla Glass thing.
I'm gonna go see if I can get it exchanged as otherwise the phone has been perfect

@EddyOS
HTC (or any other manufacturer tells operators "extremely high durability"
Most of them (80%) do understand that as : unbreakable, unscratchable , anti-fingerprints but this is simply not true. (Smart step form HTC )
as for the people who sell the phones. They are just simple sales man they mostly don't even know how phones hardware works or in this case what Gorilla glass is.
They have only one goal : To sell handsets

I know that! I wasn't conned into buying the phone but even the Gorilla Glass website says that it should withstand a bit of fluff (or whatever has managed to get onto the screen of my phone). I have had a lot of phones and always do my research before getting one and, as it happens, I won this Sensation.
As for screen itself, it is contoured as it should be but regardless the screen is ALWAYS face up so it shouldn't matter
Maybe they upgrade it to King Kong glass instead of Gorilla.

Seriously, though, I can't see how this has happened as I'm anal about my phones so I wouldn't have let this happen. All other users, take heed and get a screen protector/case if you've not got one already
Gorilla glass is brilliant imo but its not bomb proof. I have the slightest little scratch on my screen but I dread to think what it would be like with normal glass. But I was still disappointed, so now iv found some good screen protectors and all of a sudden aswell as protection, I can't even see the scratch anymore.
Also got some displex just incase

And just to reiterate what has been said, Gorilla Glass is not scratch proof, just less susceptible to them.

As a fellow scouser and vodafone migrent i feel compelled to help.
I got my Sensation from their forum for an early upgrade all went well, the first 2 and a half weeks i had that screen problem where it wouldnt unlock.
i contacted the forum and they took too long to respond, so I took a step to call 191, they where fantastic, despite it being way out of the 7day cool off by about 10 days they exchanged it with out fuss.
my advice would be to call them and not use the forum as they are very slow to respond, and when calling do not mention a scratch, they will deem this as your fault so use the 'my screen is not working properly, when i touch it, 2 out of 5 presses are not registered'
i am 95% positive that way you will have a new phone by the end of next week!
edit: just realised you have insurance, I didnt so I am even more positive they will exchange it!

You will probably find the scratch is on the anti-glare/anti-fingerprint coating on the screen rather than the glass, assuming it has that coating on the gorilla glass like the GS2 has.
Let's be honest, a small scratch caused by yourself isn't really a justifiable reason for swapping a phone, unless you lie Vodafone will refuse it. And that goes double for the insurance.

But it wasn't caused by myself. I treat my phones like the most precious thing in my life, polishing it every other time I use it to remove finger prints/grease, etc. It lives alone in my pocket when moving between sites otherwise it's on my desk or coffee table with nothing else around it so I just can't see what scratched it.
Since I've had the phone I've even turned my pockets inside out to check for debris as I didn't wanna scratch it until I'd got a case. I'll see what Vodafone say and go from there. See Martin Fields have released a screen protector so I'll get one ASAP as it was perfect on my Desire

Unless it was on the phone when you bought it, it was caused by yourself, even if you can't think of an explanation of how it happened.
I know how you feel, I have a tiny scratch on my GS2 which also has GG and I can't think for the life of me how it happened -- I put a screen protector on it two days after getting it and changed it for a better protector about a week ago. While changing the protectors I noticed the scratch which could have only happened in the first two days while I was treating it like gold dust. Luckily, it's so small it can't be seen through the screen protector so I'm not bothered about changing it.

Experiences with the non-gorilla glass screen?

Hi Guys
I ordered this phone yesterday and now I'm actually just waiting to receive it.
I think the phone seems awesome at its price, although I was close at buying a brand new replacement LG O2x for only 66% of the price of Galaxy R.
I'm still a little in doubt if I will keep the phone or not, mainly due to the fear of a screen which is easily scratched. Most other phones out there uses Corning Gorilla Glass, but Galaxy R only uses "scratch-resistant" glass.
Also the new announcements at Mobile World Conference have my interest, e.g. to have a smaller-in-the-pocket phone with similar or better resolution.
What are you experiences so far? Have you made minor surface scratches or is the screen actually quite sturdy?
I would prefer not to use a screen protector.
Best regards, Martin / mhca
The screen glass is pretty sturdy and is actually scratch resistant.
But it would be recommended for heavy users that applying a scratch guard would be better and you can have a peace of mind as you would have to care less about scratches.
About better handsets available in the future only time will tell. But one thing wont change, that is Nvidia's huge efforts to bring game developers to support Tegra devices which will have very few parallels in the Android handsets market.
Till then tuned !
yep SGR has less sturdy scratch resistant glass.. I would prefers gorilla glass.. but sometime it is overrated too lol!...
so my phone already got a tiny scratch after 4th day bought it.. hehe..
I put it inside my pocket together with few coins...

Exactly what I'm worried about. I would never keep the phone in my pocket together with coins.
However, sometimes I toss it somewhere lying together with other stuff, e.g. when passing through airport security.
I'll make up my mind soon.
I'm still very interested to hear more comments from users with experiences.
I used my phone without screen protector for one week after I had bought it. I must mention that I was kinda a cautious and never put coins, keys and mobile to the same pocket. I haven't had any single scratch.
I use a silicon case and plus a hard plastic pouch case when I'm carrying it on my pocket. Not even a single scratch

I used my phone without screen protector for one week after I had bought it. I must mention that I was kinda a cautious and never put coins, keys and mobile to the same pocket. I haven't had any single scratch.

yeah that was silly of me.. putting the phone in the pocket with coins.. I was rushing with my hand fulls with stuffs..
but the wierd thing was.. I had my HTC Legend once..(Gorilla glass and no Screen Protector) and my Legend did not have any scratches at all for few months..
my bro also using his Galaxy S for a year without any scratches. He does put his phone anywhere though..
still.. Gorilla Glass "a bit" better than normal scratch resistant glass..

I think it would be a bad decision to choose the LG 2X.
About the screen of SGR... I don't have any scratches yet and don't read in other forums that people complain of this issue.
You can find lots of people with Gorilla Glass phones who have scratches and break completely in a normal drop from the hands.
I would buy the SGR definetely.
I'm a user of sgr for about a month now.I use silicon case at home and stock leather case when going out for showing of the beauty of sgr.

And...? Have you got any scratches or not?
Me and my wife using it heavily but carry it inside the original pouch or my wife in S2 pouch which completely protects the phone when kept inside a women's purse!
I hate using screen protector and not even using a case, still the phone is entirely scratch-less all around (not just the screen). If you are reasonably careful, I am sure it can last like my S1 or S2 which are scratch-less forever.
the screen is very good with scratch
i dropped it from waist height on the concrete and nothing happend to the screen - i use screen protector though.
i'm starting to doubt they tricked us - that R actually has a gorilla glass
Samsung has already tricked for UTG feature...
Also there can be hidden NFC, MHL output...and now gorrilla....
i cant digest it...!!

Sgr doesnt have nfc compatibality and also dont have gorilla glass, if u wanna test remove your screen guard and just swipe a coin over your screen u will get a beutifull scratch.

Amazing replies given here
But wait, how come ur getting a Galaxy R now?? I was under the impression that SGR was permanently discontinued! U better check the phone and its contents carefully before using it dude.
I use a capdase soft case and a gloss screen protector - no scratches till now. Although I must say my left pocket is reserved for my phone only and nothing else - no coins especially!

Uh, dude the OP is from February.
I have CGG on my moto xt720 and i have had few scratches when kept in pocket with keybunch and coins..!! That was after 1-2 months. Then i realised i should always put a screen guard (not the privacy guard which interferes the touch sensitivity) on any smartphone whatsoever..!
Now, on the day i bought my SGR, i put a screen guard and with a fake capdase back cover, its super safe and no visible scratches .. even after 5 months..

***Facepalm***
I use a screen protector since the first day, and when the protector is scratched, I only have to replace this, another thing is that with time, screen protector makes work bad the screen, it turns crazy. Then, I must replace the protector.
