[APP] quickgo 0.4 driving app for better navigation address entry - Android Apps and Games

In case anyone is interested, a quick app I put together which provides a large keyboard, with both numbers and letters, which lets you launch navigation to an address very quickly.
The big keyboard is great for typing addresses in while the phone is on a car dashboard.
The separate numbers are dead useful if you live somewhere like the UK, with number /letter postal codes, as you don't have to keep switching to get the number bits.
Works great from Google Car Home.
Supports launching Google Navigation or Google Maps.
Choose UK/US and French and German keyboard layouts, or set your own custom layout.
Also supports working as an input method for use with any other in car navigation application. You can use an app such as Tasker to automatically switch input method when your phone is in car mode.
I don't like posting apk files, so it is free on the market, it is called quickgo.
Any comments / bug reports etc. welcome.
Cheers,
Joe

Looks really great! Its now on the first slot of my Car Home However, would it be possible to add an option to change layouts? I'm normally using a German keyboard, which has the Y and Z exchanged - the Umlaute are not required as google normally doesnt need them either.
One way would be maybe to create a textfile on the SDcard with your orginal layout, so that would mean the file would consist of 37 chars, 1-0 and Q-",". If the user wants to place for example the M where the Q is he just exchanges these two chars in the file and then loads them from your app

Super simple and easy to use and easy to see when in my mount.
Great work.

A great little app, works great when not in my car mount, will report back after I've tried it in the car.

Looks nice
Edit, tested it and it works great, but the system doesn't pick it up as one of the available keyboards. Is that coming soon ?
Found some info about input methods here.
I was hoping I can switch to this keyboard automatically via a 'car mode' profile (tasket/setting profiles/etc)

works great
very smooth, very simple, very good.
what about an option or preference setting for the result to show up in maps instead of going straight to navigation?

Cheers all,
am in the process of adding French / azerty, German / quertz and user defined keyboard support. Hopefully will finish and post an update this weekend if not earlier.
Good idea about preference to launch maps, that should be dead easy to stick in, it's just a single line change to launch something different.
Britoso - right now it isn't a full input method, just a single app, optimized to be easy to see in a car, and set up so it goes directly to navigation. I just have it in place of the navigate icon in my car home. I can't really see it being much use for other things, emails, texts or whatever, as it deliberately doesn't support things like punctuation, lower case etc. in order to make most efficient use of the screen space.

It would make a good keyboard for almost all navigation apps Shouldn't be too much more work.

Right, the latest version (0.3) now supports German and French keyboard layouts, and also lets you set your own layout if you want something other than QWERTY / AZERTY or QWERTZ.
It also has a preference you can set to launch maps instead of launching straight into navigation.
Looking at the input method stuff it looks like it isn't super hard, like you say, it can probably use most of the same code, hopefully I'll find some time to play with that soon. It would be convenient for use with other navigation apps like CoPilot which might not support being launched with an address.
Joe

Just perfect! Thanks!

cant making it ANY easier than clicking my icon and entering an address

Would it be possible to link the app to google maps instead? I use it more than the full navigation. Other than that, it is perfect and a great solution.

As if by magic an update appears. Now supports running as an input method for sick puppies who wish to use it as their keyboard.
Use something like Tasker or similar profile app to change input method when you put your car in car mode.

I once had an idea for this app, so i started learning Java to make it happen.
I had a need to keep important information from my clipboard at the front of my attention (e.g text message,email etc) so I added some features and the result is NClip

I had the idea of such an app for months!
Thanks for it!

wow! m already starting to like this app,

pretty cool,i've been looking for somthing like this.
Suggestions
This is a great great app and a really good idea.. but I wanna give you some suggestions. The GUI is messy and doesn't properly use space.
On the very top is the Clipboard entry area (this should be at the bottom as its not usually used) it occupies immediately 1/2 of the screen with a large area that is totally wasted. Then, if there are contents on the clipboard they are not displayed nicely in the window (really ugly).
Then because of large unused area for the clipboard, now the Custom entry are is hidden when the keyboard is pulled-up (which by the way should pop-up immediately and it doesn't). Then if I want to add an icon, that menu selection is at the very bottom, so I have to close the keyboard to get there and, that menu doesn't have icon previews, just bullets (it needs icon previews as like the PICK ICON menu item). Finally the NOTE CUSTOM MESSAGE is at the very bottom (worse place), needs to be at the top.
All this makes a single entry an endless effort of way too many clicks to get anything done. I'm on a 7" Galaxy Tab. Look at the screenshots and get inspired
Finally, for this app to make ANY SENSE, it needs to be AS EASY TO ACCESS AS THE NOTES IT CREATES!!!!!!!!!! So, make it run as a hidden notification so it can be pulled down from the taskbar and activated (like the app Clipper - Clipboard manager for example.. you can check it out on the market if you are not sure what I mean)
Really nice app though. I want to love it.. you just need to make it right now
I've already added some features to the program, including the short cut you suggested, just my keystore is 100+ miles away on my desktop so I cant yet publish the update (its been sitting around for over a month).
I have also updated the gui, it shows only what is relevant at a given moment and keyboard no longer poses an issue on my nexus s, literally the app has everything you want (its just not published), i'm working on it

havok123, thanks for the feedback, this is great news! I didn't mean at all to be harsh or overly criticizing.. think your app is truly fantastic and therefor I just would like it you to get it perfect! I'm happy you decided to learn Java just to program this... totally worth it!

Keep up the great work and when its perfect make a paid version. It will be worth it and I think many people would buy it. You can definitely count me in and your work should be rewarded!

Great update, interface much more workable & cleaner.
One suggestion that immediately comes 2mind is, get rid of the sticky app icon that shows up on taskbar when selecting the enable shortcut option. No ned & cluttery. IfU add a note without chooding custom icon, now there are DOUBLE app icons on the taskbar being displayed one of which is NOT a note.. very confusing and unecessary.
If the enable shortcut opion is chosen, we know its there in the pulldown menu already, thats enough &keeps taskbar cleaner for actual notifications only
going to get on it over christmas break xD

[APP] Go2note - Location-based notes with Proximity Alerts

1. Press the plus sign to add a note
2. Type it in
3. Now you have a choice of:
A. Press save and the note is saved without a location.
If you chose to save the note, you'll land on the notes list.
B. Press the map icon in the top right to add a location.
If you pressed the map button you'll land on the map page.
- Press the location reticle top right to locate yourself
or
- Type an address and press Go2Address
4. Now press Attach2Note and you'll land on the note page.
5. Tap save to confirm and your done!!
I hope the UI is not confusing to navigate. I was worried it maybe, although after a bit of use I find it like a pattern to use. Something like this to make a note for my location:
3 x touch top right
touch Attach2Note
type note
touch save, all done.
Ok, now it makes sense. The one thing I would add is clicking on a stored note would bring up the Navigation app so you can get driving directions without having to type.

At this time there isn't. Although it would not be too hard to implement. My only concern is where to fit it into the UI. Maybe I could add another button into the 2Note screen to pick a contact and that would add their address. I could also add another option to the Go2 map screen to do that. If I did it there, the map could be used to display the location, then you would just attach2note it would do what you're looking for.
I'm currently writing my end of semester university exams and will have more time to work on the app toward the end of next week.
New version released is a major update.
I added a new feature to edit a note so now you can change it and even add a different location to it or remove it's current one. Next up is to implement an option to choose between imperial and metric units.
Hey folks, just popping in to let you know that I have just dropped a major update. This one has lots of fixes and a new feature; displaying routes from your current location to a note.
Get it from the link in the OP and me me know what you think.
Ok, just pushed another version update to the Market.
U.S. users now have the option to use Miles instead of Kilometres. Colour changes, optimisations and bug fixes are all part of this update. Let me know what you think.
It´s looking great =D
It´d be great to have the option to save "favourite locations" and use it instead of the map all the time (maybe with an option when you´re going to attach you current location).
New version released. Heaps of bug fixes and extra features. New UI Layout and workflow.
Hi everyone,
I've updated with app with many improvements. If you didn't know already, the app now has inbuilt routing and navigation is integrated via Google navigation. On the board of things to do are favorite locations, a widget and proximity alarms for when you get close to a note.

[Widget] Speedlauncher app launcher

Hi There,
I am relatively new to XDA Dev forum, although a long time developer. We've got a vibrant community here so as a budding Android developer let me introduce myself with my first Android app! Speedlauncher app launcher widget !! Let me describe my app for your feedback.
Many of us install a ton of apps on our phone and have to constantly scroll up and down screens to find a specific game or app. Its pretty annoying at times. Speedlauncher is a different take on the launcher concept. Speedlauncher is an app launcher widget that launches any app by pressing a 1 or 2 digit shortcode. So for e.g. you might have shortcode 9 for Angry Birds, 18 for Facebook, 27 for Twitter and so on....
You need to add Speedlauncher on your homescreen from the widgets list to be able to use it. I'm giving the Android market link below as well as the QR code.http://market.android.com/details?id=com.bapatsoftware.android.SpeedLauncher

}
I have also attached few screenshots with this post.
Please give it a try and share your real feedback both negative and positive as that will help me in refining the app.
Thanks,
Omkar
I hav'nt tried the widget but my impression is that it might be a bit difficult to use, as you have to memorize the number of each application you want to launch.
What if instead you make an alphanumeric keyboard, where you can type in the first 2-3 letters of the name of an application and it starts listing all applications containing this letters in the name? From this pop up list you can then launch the one you want.
Very nice & useful app/widget osbapat But i think Claus is right, please think about it

It is a nice suggestion but an app for that is already available (kinda works the same way as SmartDial, but to launch apps).
This concept is not bad at all. Yes, you need to memorize the speed dials, but if you have some contacts on speed dials it should flow rather well. I would be nice to be able to have a reminder of what is what.
Edit: nvm, just saw the "Edit" button
Thanks to all of you for your valuable feedback! I will try to improve my app.
@egzthunder1, do you think a screen that displays only the app name and assigned shortcode, to quickly scan which shortcode is given for which app will be useful?
Thanks and Regards,
Omkar S. Bapat
Well, I rather create folder with apps. But you could do something like t9 search (similar to t9 dialer)

I think it will help.... kinda like having a quick guide on regular land line phones....
I think a t9 launcher makes more sense and is much easier to use. Indeed, reminding all those shortcut codes is not convenient at all. As far as I know there is no t9 launcher for android, so +1 from me for making one .
I also prefer an app over a widget...
i suggest you will use a t9 like suggestions :
lets say i configured number 10,11,12 as Email,Gmail,Phone
when i'l just press '1' ill see an icon of all 3 apps above as a suggestion.
i think your idea is great.
Speedlauncher Version 1.0.5 released!
Thanks for your feedback. Based on the feedback received so far I have made 2 changes to the app:
1) Added a new screen for quick reference of shortcodes to apps. To access this screen tap on the SCode button on the widget
2) Changed the UI of the widget buttons

Omkar

[Request] Do It Yourself Keyboard

I didn't read anything about whether it is ok to make requests here or not, so I just give it a try.
If I do something wrong, please tell me.
######################################################
Introduction:
Many of you may already know it, the lack of functionality on your keyboard.
No matter what kind of keyboard replacer you installed, there is always this situation where you need some other functionality like a different key layout.
Just imagine those situations:
The standard android keyboard fits quite well for you and there are no problems surfing the internet and sending some mails.
But you work as an html and php coder and you like to do some work on the train. You could download a fitting keyboard for that, but now you have to change the keyboard all the time depending on what you are doing.
In addition you are a math/law/chemistry/whatever student and need those damn +-*/%&$§ so often it drives you crazy. Another keyboard would fit, but again: changing the keyboard all the time?
In addition you are from spain and speak german with your family. You would want to have äöü aswell as ñ in your keyboard.
There are so many scenarios a developer needs to consider when creating a new keyboard app, it's nearly impossible to cover all of them.
Those keys are there on the keyboard, but the user needs to press 1 or 2 additional buttosn just to find them!
So by bringing those buttons to the main keyboard (or wherever the user needs them to be faster) we can enhance productivity on tablets and smartphones a lot!
Just imagine you had a keyboad that allowes you to:
- create your own unique keyboard layout, fitted for YOUR needs!
- create profiles for YOUR activities and switch them easily with just 2 taps!
- asign profiles directly to apps, so they get set to active whenever that ap is opened!
Sounds awesome, doesn't it?
So how should this work?
Let me talk about the android keyboard and explain with that example how my idea could be realized.
This is what we have:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
We can divide the elements in different parts.
The core of every keyboard are the letters, a-z:
(Note: I centered the keys)
These are the core keys on your keyboard.
In addition you have some advanced controll keys, like caps, tab etc.
And last but not least (actually the thing we need to fit stuff to our needs) are additional keys that can take various functions like '.' ',' '!' '?' '@' etc....
So these are the keys we need to add to make the keyboard work like we want, so it actually improves our productivity.
ok ok, we got that. Get to the real deal!
What does the user need to make a keyboard fit his or her needs?
1) Add rows
The easiest way is adding an additional layer above with more keys, for example the numbers 1-9 like ASUS did.
Easy, clean, exactly what we need.
But just adding more and more layers would result in confusion, so we need to change more stuff
2) Change the Size of the buttons
Sounds simple, but making buttons smaller is a real space safer! And that's exactly the point, we need SPACE to add additional keys. If I get space for 2 additional keys per row it can be a great advantage for my productivity!
3) Add buttons
Already talked about it and this should be the main feature.
We just got some nice space for buttons and we just add them with the function YOU want. need < > to fasten your html coding? add it to your keyboard! Using a lot of € $ + - / * since you are a smartass stockbroker? Add it directly to the keyboard! Learning another language you need other letters for at school? Add those to your keyboard!
Once again: you CAN get those keys on your keyboard already, but it always takes time and additional taps on your screen. if you want to have a key on your main keyboard because you are usign it so ****ing often THIS will save you time and enhance productivity!
If anybody of you guys is interested in creating something awesome, please contact me!
I am not a coder.
I just had the problems described above a lot and didn't find a fitting ap.
The truly greatest keyboard I ever used was the "Day Hand Input" (or something like this) for Symbian.
It's speciality was, that besides the ordinary button press you had 4 additional characters on each button used by pressing it und then sliding your finger in one of the four directions. You had literaly every available character reached by one button press. Also the thing was more or less easily configurable.
When I'll got some free time apart from college, I may start reviving this thing for Android.
Also, here's a screenshot of it:
that's not exactly the point.
What I mean is something like the possibility to create different keyboard profiles with layouts fitted for me + a fast switch so when I want to code something or write an assay it just fits ;-)

Why I created this app?
I couldn't find good looking, simple and customisable remote app for mac in google play that works great out of the box.
Previously I was using the most popular mac remote by Agusti Bau http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2163664, main reasons why I create my own app was:
1) Customisation - I wanted add my custom commands like switching slides in Impress.JS, and I couldn't. So I added posibility to manage applications (adding own, hiding default items, changing order).
2) Unfortunately most remote apps on the market are ugly, so I created good looking remote.
3) I need sometimes current track info when I lying on couch, so I implemented also this option.
4) I implemented media buttons that works the same way as media keys in mac, e.g. long click on "next" button works like "fast-forward" in iTunes.
5) I use remote for several hosts (work/home), and with previous remote I had to always write ip manually. My mac.remote remember correct usernames and hosts.
Plans for future:
Mac.remote is the first product from .remote family, next linux.remote is on the way.
I share some ideas about future plans here http://www.dotremote.net/plans/55/ and I am waiting for your feedback what I can improve and which ideas are the most awaited.
You can download app from: http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.szwiec.mac_dot_remote
Project page is at: http://www.dotremote.net/
In the future I will write more tips and tricks about custom configuration on the blog.
Great love it ! great appearance !
love the simplicity ! thumbs up
very nice indeed, and with a hell of a better GUI!! I really like it, kudos!
If I may suggest, though, the only thing I'd say this app lacks is a built-in way to be used as a touchpad to control the mouse pointer. There is always going to be that one, stupid command you've never used in your life but you just happen to need, requiring you to go to the mac and therefore rendering this app less useful... if it had this option, I think it'd be the best
Testing
Interesting one.. Testing right now..
Big thumbs up!
Yes I'd also love Touchpad controls and quick left/right options similar (not provided) in Valence but integrated in Mac.remote.
Keep up the great work and look forward to my support! Sorli...

Yep, I'm considering keyboard/trackpad in the future. It will be separate app (but integrated with current one) or landscape view will change app to trackpad/keyboard. Currently I prefer to create separate app, because unwanted rotation when you laying on the couch is often and that feature spoils simplicity

No, sorry, but if it is good news for you, I plan to give you customizable right drawer, you will be able to create any command with icon of your choice.

I was thinking a lot about name convention for my product:
Main name for all family of products is .Remote (dotRemote) because dot is my trademark.
It's also scalable because products from .remote family can have name linux.remote and windows.remote
So I didn't copy name from you, it was natural fulfillment for .remote brand name.
waiting for the linux version :highfive:
Great app, just wrote a review. In Hungarian: http://androidportal.hu/2014-03-07/macremote
I wanted to create a remote app for the Prezi Desktop app, but wasn't successful. The app does not recognize the sent left and right arrow.
