[Q] [Suggestion] Which ROM should I pick? - Galaxy 3 Android Development

Actually I don't have this kind of problem myself but I'd like to see a "Table of differences" between custom ROM's for G3.
Maybe users who have used and tested different roms could make some summaries here and we can keep the forum clear?
For example: User wants to use a ROM that has most of stock/"everyday" apps in it and from this topic he can see what ROM has those options what he needs.

Clean this forum up

I'm sorry if I'm telling people what to do but this forum is ATM to messy.
The moderator should clean it up by pinning the guides to the top and making a "Rom bible" thread where we could locate all the different ROM's.
FAQ thread should be made as well.
I was hopping that we could help the admin with this and not just complain about the situation. So here I start (Please fell free to correct and add things):

ha ha i think that was funny. Functionally this is very useful. What aplhabet priority will you give to arrange it. Just continue with what you have started I hope the Mods take note of this.
Yeah i agree with the op, i hope mods will take care of it!
All you had to do was ask
I'll get this done today or tomorrow. Appreciate the help in getting the links together. I don't have a Defy, so I'm not familiar with all the procedures etc...
I'll definitely do an "FAQ" type thread for all the main guides.
I'm not 100% sure about a ROM list as that is something that will always be changing and require update all the time. I think it may be easier just to let users find their own ROMs?
Opinions?
That would be cool!
Maybe you could include a link to the wiki page. It would than be easier to keep the ROM list up-to-date.
PS: You can find the Defy wiki-page at http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Motorola_Defy
I added the links to the wiki page.
OK, seems good, so the ROM part is done aswell.

It would be workable but it would need two things - ideally a Mod dedicated to the Defy section or at least actively monitoring it and secondly when someone starts a new thread about a ROM, to PM said Mod so that they weren't having to constantly trawl through the section to check for them.
I also think it would be useful is all thread titles were formatted similarly - if it's a ROM, start with [ROM]; if it's a guide, start with [guide] etc etc.
That and trying to keep question threads out of here, have them all moved to the general section.
In fact, now that I think about it, isn't it possible to have it so that any new threads hidden until authorised by a Moderator? That way any threads purely asking questions could be weeded out immediately and, indirectly, the/a Mod would end up aware of any new threads that needed to be added to a FAQ/sticky thread and also fix any badly-formatted title.
I know it would potentially add a slight delay to new threads appearing if there were an Mod actively monitoring the Defy section it shouldn't be too bad.
Sorry for just suggesting ways to increase your workload but I'm just thinking out loud...

I'm happy to keep a list of ROMs up to date if I get help in being informed of any new ones etc....I visit all my allocated forums MANY times per day (probably more than I should, even at work ), so that's not a problem. I'm always just a PM away, any time of day or night, unless I'm asleep
Because I visit all my forums so often, there's rarely a time when there are any question threads in the dev section...I like to move them as soon as I see them, so thats another issue I am managing no problem.
I was considering implemeting the same method as you suggested, using the [ROM], [Guide] etc tags in each thread title as they work well in other forums. I'll create a sticky with more information tonight after work.
The Defy forum has become a lot more populated over the last month or so, which is why things are getting a little more cluttered, so hopefully we can all work together and keep it clean and structured
Please feel free to suggest anything else you think will improve the forums

Sorry, didn't mean to suggest otherwise.
I just wasn't consciously aware of you having been around here and also since you're managing 9 sections eek, I thought maybe it would be unfair to ask so much.
I mean, I've done the moderating thing (elsewhere) but I doubt I could've dealt with that sort of load.
About moving questions away from the Dev section, I had also wondered if it might be worth having a sub-section for questions rather than throwing them into the General section, that way it's easier for people to see if a similar question had already been asked.
But I guess most of the questions will be about particular ROMs/Guides etc and will therefore be asked in that thread, so maybe that'd be unnecessary...
Nah nah, it's ok, I know you didn't imply anything
Yea, it's a difficult one with question threads...most of them are related to ROMs or a particular ROM...and if not they are usually general enough to be put into the General forum, which is intended for general chit-chat on a device, or questions.
Some mods like to have a Q&A dedicated sticky thread in the dev section, but im not a big fan of these.
I think the FAQ/Guide sticky should help somewhat in reducing the number of question posted in the dev section.
I was thinking, some sort of Glossary/FAQ thread/post would also be quite useful.
Terms like 'ClockworkMod' and so on get thrown around and whilst there is a thread on how to install it, there isn't really anything that explains clearly to people starting out what it is.

That's maybe a bit much...we can't go spoon feeding everyone. Clockworkmod is covered over many devices in xda forums. Search is a very handy tool
But if somone wants to write something up, please fell free

The best ROM discussions aren't allowed on xda. Just go through development section in ur forum and chose whichever suits u the best.
life!
agree completely with above
OP, best ROM threads are really pointless because each person is going to have a different lists of things they need the ROM to do and what they expect from a ROM. The best thing to do is read through the forum for your phone Nexus S and gather all the information you can from there. There are stickies and tons of threads in Development to help you and guide you. Just pick a few ROMs that look interesting to you and flash them and see which best fits your needs.
Good Luck. Closing this one.

What rom do i need to download

Hello,
Pls can can someone suggest the best rom for me.
I downloaded a rom (pa_saga-2.51-26OCT2012-103713 True HybridMode) I love the interface of this rom but i'm having some issues with it. 1. I can find apps like FM Radio, voice recorder,Youtube, and some other apps i'm familiar with on the ICS even some other custom roms like Desire XS. 2. My wifi does not work, its turns on but wont detect a network(My pc network using connectify) 3. The front camera force close the camera (Whenever i reopen the camera, it says 'Unfortunatelly gallery has stopped' Also seems the network is not stable as i get a blank network for \a long time.
....
I love this rom cos it looks like the nexus'
....
Anyone knows the best rom for me with dos stuffs?
Thanks

Wrong section, I'm afraid. This is for posting roms, kernels etc. Your thread is a question, so it belongs in the q&a section.

Vote for the best JB Cutom ROM for Micromax A110

Reason for starting this poll
Hi Everyone,
There are lots of ROM's available in XDA forum for Micromax A110 but which one is best. How do rookies like me choose the best rom. I don't understand most of the technical terms listed in the change log. So, please help rookies like me to choose the best ROM. I want every user to rate their favorite ROM. It will help the developers and users to choose their best ROM. Moreover, please add a comment, why you choose the ROM as best. I am listing 18 ROM's in this poll, thanks to iamnimit for developing a thread to list all the ROM's available for Micromax A110. I am listing the ROM's based on his list. I humbly request every user and developer to vote because it will encourage the developers to create more ROM's for us. Please vote the ROM's based on their latest version.
Please add your comments
Hi guys,
Please post the reason why you chose the ROM as best.
Hello,
I'm closing this for a couple of reasons:
First, "Best ROM" threads are not allowed on XDA. It's a pretty pointless argument since what is the best ROM for one person, is not going to be the best ROM for another person. Everyone has different needs for what they want out of a ROM. The best way to choose which one is best for you, is to flash them yourself and see which one best fits your needs.
Secondly, this section of the forum already has more than enough trolling/flaming/arguing to fill 100 other forums, and I do not see this helping calm that down in any way, since history shows that it will just end up with fans of one ROM bashing someone else's ROM. I know the thread wasn't started with the intent of this to happen, but chances are it will anyway.
Stay calm and happy flashing.

The most stable ROM

I don't know whether the question was ever discussed but I'm very insterested what ROM to flash. I'm not satisfied with stock because of its sloth and tardiness and also don't satisfied with CM because of its instability. Please, write your opinions and reviews: what ROM do you use and why.
I found the following options for flashing:
1. CarbonROM
2. LiquidSmooth
3. OmniToad
4. CM
Have I missed something?

According to all the users that have used my ROMs Carbon is the most stable...plus I just made an update to it with all new source rebase....followed by liquid..but to best determine what you think is better is for you to test it and see...it varies between users and what they want in a particular ROM...any of those questions I can answer for you easily...what is it you want besides the stability...there is a few you missed like aokp and slimrom...which I will be updating soon

It all depends what you are looking for really. I use Liquid because it is packed with features and is always pushing ahead with the latest updates. Carbon is good and seems to be a bit more forgiving - as far the types of add-on's you like to use. You can't go wrong with either one, try them both out.
The development section is for develpment discussion. If you have a trivial general question, ask it in the General Discussion.
Opinions about "my favorite rom" are not development.
Thread moved to General and will be closed.
Polls/posts asking for a "best rom" for a device will only attract fans of particular ROMs and hijack the thread.
What I recommend to everyone instead is try them all out and see which ones have the features and style that you like.
Thanks and good luck!
