Tested it out today, counted from when I opened OCN8 and it took exactly 30 seconds to get a fix. Perfectly acceptable if you ask me, especially seeing as I'll only use it for long drives.
great to know man

Did you try any button mapping software?

With A-GPS, I don't think you can turn it off.
Only one GPS setting: Enable AGPS: Checkbox.
No, I haven't done any button mapping to the other person who asked.
Is the device as fast as shown in unwired videos?

Yep, 26 seconds for me using Garmin.
And yes, mine is as fast as the videos. Definitely an improvement over the Diamond, despite the Diamond's speed improvements with recent cooked ROM's.
Amazing what a bit of extra RAM will do...
Great, thanks for the info
Since you're using Garmin
I've always found it's notifications to be quite lower than other GPS s/w even when placing an attention tone prior
Is it any louder on the Raph speakers in comparison with Kaiser?

Strange. Very quick for me too.

Make sure to download QuickGPS before you use those programs, that may be your issue.

Fast like, TF3D being fast? Check this video out, AT&T model, 100% out of the box and not 1 tweak applied:

Now with tweaks, it's unreal.
Nope, still not working.

Oh, no...what's that? Is it something built in or is it an app I have to install?
EDIT:
Copilot has a GPS Status thing built in. Looks like I can only see one satellite. Kind of weird.

Are you outside or inside some building?
GPS works fine for me in both Google Maps and TomTom Navigator. Indoors is not so great, but whilst in a car it was fine all the way home on a 30 minute journey!

I'm in my house, my Kaiser right next to it is working fine.
GPS isn't supposed to work indoors... If you need it indoors, you may also need to be living in a psychiatric ward. :\
I got full signal in front of my house according to OCN8's little GPS status bar, for those who care.
As mentioned earlier, QuickGPS will help (hopefully as it has been useless for me since Kaiser WM6.1 ROMs started to be cooked)
BUT
You need to give it time first to aquire GPS fix alone THEN go back to your PC to download the QuickGPS data
To make sure you have everything afterwards successful,
reboot your PDA and see if you can aquire a faster fix.
You can test with GPSTest attached here.
If it didn't solve your problem, check with other fellow Raph holder their Radio versions and yours.
If you are to flash, do not forget to HardSPL your device.
Good luck and give us more feedback

@fireblade63
I'd say the notification volume in Garmin is about the same as it is in the Kaiser, so I agree - it's certainly not the loudest, but I'm someone who likes the Sat-Nav turned down a bit anyway. I hate having the things shouting at me, especially if there are other people in the car who I'm trying to talk to.
My father-in-law, on the other hand, could never cope with the Garmin / Raphael combination because he turns his TomTom XL up to full volume, which drives me mental on the odd occasion I have to experience it!
So, no, the Raphael is no louder as far as I can tell.
I bought sygic aura. He finds everything, points of interest, addresses, petrol stations, shops but my current location three blocks differs from the actual location. Even when I'm in the car nothing happens. My arrow is not with me. What is the problem here? is because the GPS is not designed for the HTC HD mini android?

no there is something with my gps. it worked always no problems, but now for about 3 months my htc don't have any signal, even on WINDOWS MOBILE No signal. so i let it be , just wait 8 months than can i go for a new phone. . I now used my nokia N95 for navigation
Which WinMo ROM do you have? Have you changed it 3 months ago?
no , i had the lastest winmo version, now the oldest because i used a hard reset. so i guess i have on this moment the oldest. but i had this one a while ago : _HTC HD Mini_RUU_Photon_HTC_NLD_1.36.404.1_Radio_Signed_32.2803.05.06_0.63.05.36_Ship
For GPS issues, the first post in the tutorial "Install Android on HTC HD Mini" under the heading of known issues states in red font: GPS software in WM will not find satellites if you turn off GPS from location settings in Android
You should try the solution that is detailed in this thread. You have to follow this step even if you reflash any WM6.5 stock ROMS because reflashing won't fix the GPS issue. I know this from experience.
It is also discussed at length here
It is assumed you are using the latest build of Android for HD Mini. If there are continued issues, try a completely clean install (remove all old Android files from your SD card). If you still can't get GPS (both in Android and WM6.5), then maybe consider it is a hardware fault.

I would say if you do a hard reset in WiMo then you should see at least some satellites. Did you also try the app androsensor in Android? That tells you the status of all sensors, including the gps (i.e. location and number of sats). In that case you don't need a program like Sygic to check it. It works quite nice. Maybe worth checking?

See screen capture. I capture while I'm in side my house but It's appear about 400m from my current location and I have been waiting for 5 minutes to get the GPS reciever working.

try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1442032 it works for me.
i did manage to get a signal immediately right after i installed it from inside my house in front of my pc. Was not able to produce the same result twice(didn't really wait long enuf to test as i dun need gps in my house). But i have to say that this improve my signal lock tremendously.
and i think gps not able to lock on while in a house is not really an issue :cyclops:

Desire S GPS is precise, but weak, and won't work well indoors.

To test ur gps it should be outdoor in an open field, not inside brick wall. Is like testing ur mobile radio in an elevator and asking why can't i receive any reception inside here
But how is it when you are outdoor? Any improvement on the gps-lock?
GPS generally isnĀ“t recommend for indoors, and it doesnt have sense to use GPS indoors.
Have no problem

WTF are you playing at dude?
Why are you re-opening an old thread (From September last year) in the Dev forum just to ask the same damn question you keep asking in here?
You have been told repeatedly that GPS is NOT designed for indoor use. You have confirmed that your GPS works fine outside. What is your problem? If you are indoors then you surely know where you are - it's not as if GPS is going to help you find the toilet, or find your arse
The Dev forum is for Development - not for pointless questions.
So you mean I'm damn... Ok I'm damn but. Why I can get Samsung Gallaxy S Advances work in door perfectly but not Desire S? What make sense to me is If it work in a house or building is benefit of finding and also can provide us a location where we can find each other easy.... Also maybe you can find my ass also.

Because the Desire S has a weak GPS antenna design. Everybody here knows that - it has been discussed to death. The thread you re-opened states that and the reasons for it, along with a possible hardware fix if you want to try a bit of soldering.

Hey guys! I just bought myself an I9001 Galaxy S Plus from someone (second hand)... It's my first smartphone so i think i've been busted.
The phone seemed to work well, and everything was ok. But when I try to use the GPS (without internet connection), it does'n seem to find any server. I've changed some different ROMs with different Kernels, but it still can't reach any server.
I forgot to mention that with some ROMs the signal level is very oscillating...
Today i was looking at the phone and observed that there is a hole just above the battery where some component, like an antenna or something is missing. I don't know what component is that...
I think that the missing component is the one in te next picture. But what is its name and role? Instead of it, at my phone, there's a soildered wire... This trick was made to mask other issues of the phone? (if i replace the missing component the phone might have problems?)
I'll attach the photos, may be you can help me. Thanks!!!

I think it's a Connector coaxial, a micro miniature form of RF coaxial connector. Look at one i marked with an arrow.. You can replace that part from samsung service center
Best of luck.
The details:
Design LOC: RFS100
SEC CODE: 3705-001731
Description: CONNECTOR-COAXIAL
thank you!
but that's the reason why my gps doesn't work?
or that's the reason why the signal level is very oscillating when i'm using some custom ROMs?

May be. Not sure..
I used to have a i9000B wich is basicaly the same device.
THE GPS signal simply sucks, it was so bad that sometimes it took 2 minutes to lock in open field, with some roms it got better with other even worse.
I used GPS AIDS with that device an app that was developed just to try to solve this particular device problem at that time. look it up, maybe it can help a little bit, but i thing this device will never get a high speed gps lock.

It's like they changed all the low level code that deals with the actual signal.
There doesn't appear to be any filtering or averaging going on anymore, which is causing my readout to bounce around by 15meters or so all the time. It didn't used to do this on older maps versions.
When I'm sitting at stoplights it says...turn left...continue straight...turn right...turn right...in 500 feet, turn make a U-turn...
It does this as my location constantly changes.
Does anyone else experience this? What to do about it?
