Bug(s) with Main Home Screen Sense Clock? - HTC Desire S

I've encountered a problems/bugs with the main Sense Home Screen Clock:
1)
Very occasionally when I resume/power on the phone, the clock does not correctly roll over to the actual time, it still shows the last time that the phone was at when the phone was previously powered on, simply moving from one home screen to another or pressing the power button a couple of times resolves this.
This has happened twice now, that I've noticed....in the last fortnight, since I've had the phone, as I don't wear a watch this is extremely annoying, and the reason why I've happened to notice this.
Fortunately I've not yet missed a plane/train/bus or engagement! But surely its only a matter of time (no pun intended!)
Has anyone else noticed this? this must be a Sense software problem and therefore hopefully fixable.
2)
The second is not so much a bug but a cosmetic annoyance, its the way that it the clock always rolls over hours and minutes to the actual time, rather than simply saving the animation and showing the real time to start with, I know on my Diamond2 with Sense in WM6.5 I applied a fix to stop it doing this which simply removed the animation, any ideas if this is possible on DesireS with Android.
As someone without a watch I don't want to wait for animation to complete each time, I want to know what the time is straight away
Thanks

Perhaps you may want to try Beautiful Widget.
It almost had the same clock as the HTC Sense, minus the animation.

[BUG] Unresponsive device after overnight / long charge

Greetings!
As mentioined in the first post of this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=418150&highlight=issue+list I have encountered similar problems.
I own my TP for 3 days (2 nights) and on both mornings after being charged over the night the TP was absolutely unresponsive and only to be awakened by a soft reset. It couldn't receive calls, and the alarm of course didn't work also (so I missed one this morning - but wasn't late at work) Anyway, this is a serious issue to me, since it makes the phone absolutely unreliable. And I am not in favor of doing regular hard resets by the way ...
Help on this would be really appreciated.
Greetings, hugo
Mine does this everyday, but have you tried pressing one of the buttons like the home button, I know nothing happens for a minute but then it comes back to life with out the need for a soft reset
Haven't tried ...
Well, I haven't tried pressing a button and waiting, but this is not exactly the behavior, to expect from a phone of this kind. You see this wouldn't solve the Problem of not being reachable by phone and missing appointments. In fact I don't know, that how long I was unreachable on phone and in my profession this isn't just disturbing but unacceptable.
Hugo
I've had the same problem, not every time it's charged, but enough times to be a problem. I've switched off TF3D (Start, Settings, Today, Items, untick TouchFLO 3D, tick some standard items).
The problem has gone. Of course, so has TouchFLO.
Cheers,
Graham.

This could be of course a last resort, but TouchFlo is quite nice to use (although I cannot get TF to use PocketInformant as calendar app, although it is defined as standard - the original MS calendar app must be hardcoded somwhere ...). And of course as TF is one of the main features of this phone a great amount of it's costs are caused by that software. So if I couldn't use it, the phone would loose a lot of it's value.
Isn't there a sort of event log in wm6.1 to see, which event crashes the system?
Hugo
I get a similar problem in that I lose all sound overnight, so I too miss my alarms. I also get no sound through the earpiece so, although it vibrates when it is supposed to be ringing, I cannot speak on the phone as I cannot hear the other person, and it seems they cannot hear me either, so it obviously affects the microphone as well. I have done a hard reset but it still happens, so it's definitely a bug with TF3D. I know this because if I try to play one of my music tracks using the music tab in TF3D, it plays for about 5-6 seconds (obviously with no sound) and then it crashes TF3D and restarts itself, which sorts the sound issue out. No need for a soft reset here but it's still unacceptable as my alarms are useless, and for £500+ I don't expect such a stupid flaw in the software. Hopefully, a ROM upgrade will sort this out, but when that will be is anyone's guess at the moment.

I think that's what we have to wait for. Until then, it's a choice between bland-but-working or cute-but-unreliable.
have you tried any of these little mem resident babys to get your ram back and kill bad things while it sleeps

Hmm...I'm just wondering why not more people are reporting this? Anyone NOT experiencing this problem?
Not till now I didn't
Using Stock ROM
I am more and more convicee, that TF3D is quite a buggy piece of software (Aussen hui - innen pfui!). Additionaly to the described above, I got a "broken glass" effect yesterday.
I sure do hope, that HTC releases a ROM update soon, although up until now the Touch Pro isn't even listed on HTC's german support pages.
Maybe I'll give SPB mobile shell a try ...

Having same problem, not all the time though.

I have the same problem...
A few times already... even this morning.
TP is totally unresponsive and had to soft reset it to get it back alive.
ROM 1.90.401.1 WWE
Radio 1.02.25.19
Protocol 52.33.25.17U
I've had the HTC Touch Pro for about three weeks now, and since then it's crashed or become unusable at least once a day. I do not believe for one second that these issues are restricted to my handset, and comments on this forum back that up.
Problems I've experienced:
1. TouchFlo 3D screen corruption - "broken glass effect". The TouchFlo interface appears fragmented and split - it continues to function, but is unwatchable. The OS and other applications are unaffected. Cause unknown. Cured by soft reset.
2. Complete screen corruption + freeze. The entire screen gets a still image that looks like 'white noise' - random black and white pixels. The device is completely locked. Cause unknown. Cured by soft reset.
3. Device fails to wake up. Screen has been powered down, either having been switched off manually, or by timeout. Device later fails to respond to Power button. Happens occasionally without warning, and frequently (almost 100%) during overnight charge. Note - leaving the Touch Flo interface on 'Programs' tab (i.e. not 'Home') during charge seems to alleviate this (I don't yet have enough evidence to back up this claim).
I like this phone and its touch interface, but am pretty disgusted by the reliability issues, which I would guess are largely connected to the TouchFlo 3D code and/or hardware drivers. HTC really need to sort this out.
I've had the alarm fail on two mornings so far, needed soft reset.
I'm going to try disabling touchflo I think. Be nice to have pocketbreeze running again anyway.
Just out of curiousity
Do you have your phone set to turn off the screen even if it is charging? I don't have the Pro... yet, but with my 6700 I used to have to ensure the screen stayed on over night if I wanted to have a chance at the phone actually being responsive in the morning so the alarm would go off. Otherwise it would be as your Pro's seem to be doing. Will not turn on or anything until a soft reset. (It is not a fix by any means, I am just curious if it is still the same patern.)
I never charge over night simply to avoid it being charged for 8 hours straight. I keep a charge kit at work, and charge during the day as needed. In less than an hour, I get full battery. Then, I sit it next to my bed at night with no failed alarms.
Maybe it doesn't like the long charges.
I'm trying DCS's ROM now to see if it makes any difference at all. I'll report back in a couple of days. Maybe if I didn't have to charge it so often it wouldn't be so bad!
Wether screen is on or not, it doesn't make a difference. (Why should it on a working phone?)
I sincerely hope, that if those strange behaviours are gone in non stock cooked roms, that there will be some in German language as well ...
I am looking forward to another night!
By the way, SPB Mobile Shell didn't quite meet my expectations. (eg. it has also the sucking MS calender hard coded)
Experienced the "non-responsive in the morning" problem 2 times in 3 days, without the phone being charged. Both times I had the white noise effect on the screen.
Turned off TF3D (I like the phone more without it, actually) and the problem didn't occur in the last 5 days since I did this. It's most likely a TF3D related issue and it will prolly be fixed by the next update.

Phone on keyboard slide

I don't know if I just never noticed this since I just got the phone on Friday but every time I slide out the keyboard, it'll show the landscape home screen for a few seconds and then open up the phone and I have to hit home to get back. Same when I slide the keyboard back in. I have changed a couple things like the clock, icons, slider, landscape icons, and so that the portrait left softkey opens contacts instead of phone. Any ideas? Thanks!
im actually having the same problem, everytime i open up the phone say to respond to a text message or something the phone screen (dialer screen) pops up and i have to close it and then go back to my text message inbox.
anyone know whats causing this?
This is a known problem that HTC needs to do something about. Some of the custom ROM's tend to do this with less frequency.
Same problem here! Have had the phone for around 3 weeks, just started happening yesterday.
Any solutions?
Thread isn't getting much attention.
I flashed NATF's latest Raphael RoOM (4.1) around a week ago, and I haven't had the problem again.

Issue with Native Android Widgets

Has anyone had issues with native android widgets on the sensation? My Youtube Widget, News and Extended Control Widgets have a line running across it and sometimes they look distorted. Once i remove the widget from the screen the line disappears. This issue doesnt occur if i have the HTC Widgets on the screen.
Yeah I have this issue ... I think its the resolution of the screen is to high for native widgets I don't use them much anyway
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA Premium App
Me too....sigh!!!!!
I just tried it on mine and I don't have any of those problems
I just tried YouTube and News widgets on my Sensation, no lines on it. Maybe 1.35 fixed it?
I noticed the same problem on my sensation, as well as my brothers. Although, it is not limited to Youtube. Today I learned that it affects the facebook widget, pulse widget, wikitube widget, and even brightness app launcher. Fortunately, the lines/digital noise go away when you remove the widget and put it back. Or, you restart your phone.

whew, thanks for the info. I've just got the phone less than a week ago and noticed the problem and was worried whether it's just a software issue or a hardware memory fault or something.
Hello,
Same here with many widgets including calendar and battery widgets.
Using carrier modified ROM.
Hope HTC fixes this soon and carrier also releases the update...
Here is the response from HTC
1. Remove the battery, wait for a few seconds, and then reinsert the battery.
2. Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button, and then briefly press the POWER button.
3. Wait for the screen with the three Android images to appear, and then release the VOLUME DOWN button.
4. Press VOLUME DOWN to select FACTORY RESET, and then press the POWER button.
Note: - In the restore factory settings all your data will be lost . So before performing the hard reset please take the backup of your device.
trying right now, hope it will work from now one
I get the same "noise" on widgets from Pandora and ESPN. Possible Driver issue? Rebooting, changing the Skin, and removal - replacement of the widget clears the noise.
GOt em here too on Pandora, Google search and +. Reboot takes it away for a while but it creeps back. Damn really htc? the resolution is "too good" gotta get this stuff ironed out before releasing a device. Good thing there's root and backup capability!

[Q] Sense 3.0 People force closing, wallpapers disappearing and skins inconsistency

I recently updated my Desire S to Sense 3.0 via OTA. It arrived down here in Thailand rather late. I almost gave up waiting for it because it has been months since it first rolled out in Europe. OTA went fine. I am very pleased with Sense 3.0. New lock screens are so great I go awwww the first time I unlock my phone. The ability to capture screenshot using power + home button is my most anticipated feature. I have not encountered the issue of power button not bringing up the phone off/airplane/restart menu as reported in other threads. And while on the previous firmware I usually get a complete signal drop about once a day or two which has to be fixed by turning airplane mode on and off again, in this firmware I have not seen that happening so far. But now I'm having some problems which I hadn't have before on Sense 2.1. Here are the things that really keep bugging me:
- People app keep force closing every time when viewing Photo tab of an individual contact that has been linked to facebook. i.e, I can see the contact fine, facebook updates and all. But when sliding the bottom bar to check out the contact's facebook photo albums, People app immediately force close.
- Wallpapers which have been downloaded from HTC Hub keep disappearing after each reboot. They are not sticking. Check in the sdcard\downloads\wallpapers and they are all gone, except the .nomedia file.
- The last one is not really the problem, but it is still bugging me nonetheless. The Blue Sky and Burgundy skins have color inconsistency. After applying either of them, the big Phone button at the bottom of home screen does not change to the appropriate color. i.e, when pressed, they just stay green like the default skin. But while pressing the left (app) and right (personalize) buttons, they do change their colors to go with the skin. When previously on 2.1, the Slate skin (gosh, how I really miss that skin) also act the same way sometimes. But it eventually changed the pressed Phone button color from default green to light blue after the reboot. Tried rebooting but no luck on Sense 3.0.
I'm just curious to know if anyone else are facing these problems. If it's only me I will run factory reset on my phone. If it's common then I will just have to live with it.
Please share other problems you found and I will respond if they are present on my phone or not.

Strange moto G3 touchscreen response problem

Hi all, I did a search with no luck, so hopefully this is a valid question!
I have a weird problem with my moto G3 2015 and was hoping you guys wouldn't mind reading about and possibly offering some kind of advice if it's not too much trouble.
Every so often, I'd say at least once a day, the screen becomes unusable until I press the power button a couple of times (to turn the screen off and on again). Even when I do this quick fix, the problem comes back very shortly afterwards. It only goes away after 10 minutes or so, or if I get annoyed and put my phone away. I thought this was a hardware issue but don't believe that now due to the following:
1. It is a different problem depending on the app I am using. In facebook, scrolling is no longer smooth, and doesn't continue scrolling if I flick down the feed. It only scrolls down while my finger is actually on the screen. I am also unable to actually 'click' on anything, only scroll. In Brave (my browser) it acts as if I've just double tapped the screen, as in if I move my finger down it zooms in, and if up then it zooms out. In snapchat when watching a friend's story it acts as if I've held down on the screen in order to forward their snap to somebody else, and then it doesn't respond at all to any touch.
2. The 3 buttons at the bottom are always functional no matter what
3. If the problem begins when I'm in an app, if I go to my home screen, I am able to navigate my home screen and app drawer with no problems. It's as if the problem is contained within the apps.
This started a few months ago while I was running the copy of android that the phone came with. I put on lineage OS (lineage-14.1-20170629-nightly-osprey-signed) and pico gapps (open_gapps-arm-7.1-pico-20170629). This seemed to fix the problem for a while but then it started again a week or so in.
The fact that the problem is only happening while I am in the apps, and disappears when I exit out of them makes me think it can't be a hardware issue? I am also no expert with phones or android, but am somewhat experienced in rooting and playing with settings etc. (I'm not sure if it happens in other apps I'm afraid, I can test if need be next time it happens).
Thanks so much for any help, and please let me know if there is any more info I can give you!
P.s. The new ROM is much better than the old one.! The battery definitely drains faster though, but that's a whole other problem

That is actually typical behavior on older devices using as many social media apps as you're using. Especially Facebook and Messenger if you're also using it.
Have you tried booting to recovery and wiping cache when this happens?

Thanks for replying!
When I flashed lineage OS I believe I wiped the cache. I will do it again though to see if it helps.

Hi there
If the issue was software related, a change of rom should have solved it.
If the issue is kernel related, all users must face the same issue...but that is still not the case.
So This might be an issue with the screen being old. When the power consumption fluctuates, lcd screens can misbehave.
