Hi all,
I've just activated a Sprint TP2 to BM (Boost Mobile). Works great everywhere EXCEPT in my apartment (West L.A.) where I can neither make nor receive calls or texts, although internet access DOES WORK.
When I try to call out I get the following SPOKEN message: "you are within range of a sprint private network. Please move outside of the private network before placing a call". When attempting SMS I get "SMS Error Cause Code: 64"
This happens within a radius of about a 1/4 block of my apartment. Outside that area, no problems.
The CURIOUS THING about this situation is that I started the BM service with a BM Sanyo Mirro SCP3810 CDMA phone, before transferring my account to the TP2. The Mirro never gave me that message & worked perfectly EVERYWHERE. So somehow the Mirro was able to recognize the private network & not roam onto it.
Boost Mobile technical support are all over the place with contradictory explanations, but no solutions yet. "it is in fact a private sprint enhanced network of your neighbor & you're screwed", "No it's not, you just need a PRL update (Preferred Roaming List)", "We can do the PRL & Software update for you over the air, will take 5 days, leave your phone on", "No we can't because your phone is an HTC 7380 and not a BM phone"
So far I have done a PRL update, a Firmware update, & a Profile update from the Settings screen, firstly from the GOOD transception area. Tested. Then from the BAD transception area. Tested again. The problem PERSISTS.
ANY SUGGESTIONS PLEASE?

Be sure to be set to Home only

Hey from your home screen do this:
Go to Settings> All Settings>Personal>Phone> "CDMA Services" Tab> select "Roaming" in the list and hit the "Get Settings" button below.
Be sure that "Sprint Only" or "Home Only" is selected in the first radio button group, and Never ask w/ "Allow roaming" unchecked in the second group.
re: Be sure to be set to Home only
Hi Ezitec, thanks for the suggestion. I followed your instructions, 1. in the BAD tranception area (my apartment area). I still got the message. ("You are within ....") Did a soft reset. Still got the message.
2. I followed your instructions but starting off in the GOOD tranception area (away from my aptmnt). When I walked back into my aptmnt, the message kicked in again within 2 minutes, when testing my calling out capability.
OUCH!
But thanks for the suggestion anyway. Any other suggestions? Anyone?
Thanks, Rodney
You may be in range of someone's Air Rave receiver, which your phone is picking up the signal for, but unless you are registered with their air rave, you can't get into their "private network".
Airave Problem
Thanks Indiagroove,
it turns out that that is exactly the problem. My TP2 on BM is unable to connect thru an Airave, EVEN if it's ON the allowed list. I installed an Airave to override the neighbor's. Still got the same error message. Called Sprint Airave support. They went thru various diagnostics and then finally said it's up to BM. Called BM advanced tech support & they said they had no instruction manuals to walk me thru setup of a SPRINT TP2 on Airave, they could only solve the problem if I had a BM branded phone (for which they have manuals to follow).
So it looks like I'm screwed.
UNLESS,
SOMEONE READING THIS, KNOWS HOW TO SET UP A TP2 WITH AN AIRAVE??
HELP!!

I suggest you dont call boost or sprint about having a tp2 on boost. they might just terminate your account.
If you have the right software to do it, copy the PRL or obtain the same PRL that the Mirro has on it and write it to the TP2. The PRL carries specific roaming info and from what I have been told by some sprint employees and others online is that Boost mobile PRLs are usually behind in sequence compared to the Sprint PRLs so maybe the PRL that the mirro has already know not to look for the airaive as a base while the TP2 has the appropriate PRL for if it were a sprint device. This should help a bit, try this and report back.
Hello All.
I recently bought a TP2 CDMA phone which was on US Cellular's network. My infinate wisdom told me I could probably program it for my carrier (Cellcom - NSight). I found the unlock code for EPST and added my setting from a previous EPST file from my old HTC Titan. Gave the ESN to Cellcom and the phone works, except I cannot connect via EVDO. It will only connect to 1X when making calls and accessing the data. I tried updating the tower list with *228, however, it calls USCC and says the number cannot be dialed. I'm guessing there is a setting in EPST or the registry which is still looking at USCC. Does anyone have a clue as to how I can get EVDO to work? I can post the EPST if needed. I tried MightyRom, Sprint, and USCC roms and cleared the memory without any luck on the EVDO problem.
Thanks!
Drex
i loaded the hacked prl 00001 to get some 3g data. when i have this prl loaded, i can select home only and unselect the data roaming option while still having 3g with the eri telling me "Sprint" or Google in this case, modded eri. it seems if i load any other prl, when set to home only, i will get no service at all...i assume the power outages and high winds here had everything to do with it.
when i check isp sites, my isp is sprint pcs, with the hacked prl and set to home only. am i on vzw with this prl even though home only is selected? ive had 01115 since it was released, i have a personal account with a place of employment discount.(although i dont think this has anything to do with it.)
Also, if anyone in the NE region or Boston area could please post which prl you are on, itd be appreciated.
Thank you!
I am from the Android world, zero experience with WP7 and I want to buy this exact phone and possibly flash a custom ROM
and the goal is to get this to work on Page Plus (Verizon MVNO) and NOT Sprint
the phone is currently set up for C-Spire - a smaller CDMA carrier in Mississippi (formerly Cellular South)
I have access to CDMA workshop and other CDMA tools, such as qpst
I need Verizon coverage and a REAL keyboard at a cheap price ($55/month) and this looks like it could be the ticket!
I had the same question and found a post from bing searches with someone claiming to have succeeded in activating it on Page Plus. Unfortunately the person never really detailed how he did it.
I'd still like to know how it can be done.
The Arrive can be flashed to P+. I'm using one on it. You'll need the paid CDMAWS, not the hacked version.
Also, before you do this, remember that the 3G will be intermittent. The reason for this is that you cannot upload the authentication file to the phone's file system, so the phone never gets true 3G, it cycles between connecting and 1XRTT. To make this work properly, you'll need to have a ROM loaded that's a direct port from the HTC Trophy, or an Arrive ROM that has the Verizon operator package in it. I've yet to learn how to do this, but as time permits, I'll figure it out. I've got a few requests in to ansar and leadpoizon, two ROM Chefs that are heavily involved in GOLD_C (our phone's) development here.
Here's what I did:
1. Put the phone in Diag Mode, using ##MFG# on the phone dialer and connect to CDMAWS.
2. Obtain your MSL/SPC by using the HTC Method, then write it to 000000.
3. Program the phone using CDMAWS just as you would an android device; put in MIN, MDN and set your data settings to your#@vzw3g.com.
4. Load a modded PRL to put the phone on Verizon's Towers, and lose the roam triangle. (Attached)
5. Call P+ and give them the MEID of the Arrive. They'll tell you to do *22890, but do NOT do it.
6. Once they say it's active, make a test call, and enjoy your Arrive.
The steps above will give you voice calls, SMS, and spotty 3G. MMS will not work, unless you hack the registry of the phone. The phone works great with WiFi, though.
If you're brave, try forcing the phone into 1X by finding a non-EvDo PRL. You'll be showing that you're roaming, but it may yield better data results. If you do set 1X though, be sure to set MIP type (in CDMAWS) to Simple IP.
Post here w/ questions, if you have any...
And dont tell me to use the search box. If you know a better way to search be my guest and let me know. Maybe I dont know the terms used that will yield good search results.
It seems to me that every one abandoned the TP2 before ST = (StraightTalk) started the Bring Your Own Phone Program so this may have never been discussed yet.
So I got the voice, SMS and data working. But my phone is still trying to connect to sprints server to download the pictures people sent me via MMS. Where do I input the MMS settings ST gave me? The only setting I could find was for APN and when I updated that the data started working. The rest of the fields are not there with the APN.
I am using the AT&T sim from Strait Talk. I have the Sprint TP2 with my Straight Talk sim card in it. Set to GSM only. The worst part is EDGE speed is slower then Sprints 1X.
A nice guy help me fix this here at this link in post 2 and 3. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28468462#post28468462
