[Q] Nexus S on rogers in canada z4 root not working - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

ive searched the forum and cant come across instructions to root my nexus s on the rogers network in canada...any ideas how to get this thing rooted running 2.3.3. thanx Wester

I unlocked the boot loader and rooted my Koodo Nexus S wich is the same as the Rogers one using the guide at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1007782
Used some of the info from the first post and then I think it's at post 30 there's a step by step with pictures which is pretty good. Make sure to read it good, there's part of it for the 9023 and we have a 9020a but it worked for me.

If you know your way around android here are the simple instructions.
plug it in and boot into the bootloader. run fastboot and type oem unlock. fastboot flash clockwork recovery. Boot into recovery mode (it's inside the bootloader) and flash the super user apk.
it was super easy. But FYI use the recovery version for I9023 i have no idea why that is when our versions are 9020's but the 9020 recovery will not work

Purchased Nexus S from Telus yesterday and ran into some trouble with CWM 3.0.0.5 so I tried using this

the signed-noconfirm.zip img work perfectly for me

[Q] [GT-i9020]Does anyone have a working root method for NS i9020 with 2.3.4 stock?

I am slowly being driven insane trying to find a root method that works and wont brick my phone. Im running the UK vesion of the NS, the i9020 (Not A/T/some other variation). All the root methods seem to be pointing to other variants and Ive already wiped my phone twice trying to get this done.
Can someone provide a link that is known to work with 2.3.4 on the original i9020 NS? My bootloader is already unlocked. Im completely confused with all the different versions of CWM available, most of which dont work, just leave my phone stuck in the CWM recovery console when rebooted and wont run Android.
Thanks
S
go to www.unlockr.com and check out the how to root the nexus s. there is a video plus written instructions on how to unlock the bootloader (skip this part), install a custom recovery, and root the device. i just got a i9020a (rogers in toronto) and it worked perfect (once i installed the correct drivers). his videos are always good

Assuming stock:
Download su (http://bit.ly/su2361ef) and put it in the root of your NS's usb storage.
Download CWM recovery (http://mirror.sea.tdrevolution.net/cm/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-3.0.2.4-crespo.img).
Run 'fastboot boot recovery-clockwork-3.0.2.4-crespo.img'.
Apply su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip and reboot.
Install Superuser from Market. You are now rooted.
Optional: Flash CWM recovery either manually or through ROM manager (if you want a custom recovery as well).

PLEASE HELP ME unbrick my nexus s i9020

Hello all,
Today I attempted to install android 4.0.3 ICS unofficially on my beloved AT&T Nexus S i9020A. I did this by unlocking my bootloader, then flashing clockwordkmod 3.0.0.0. crespo img, then flashing the stock i9020t (t-mobile) ics rom, planning to later flash the AT&T radios and get the update that way. This all failed however, because upon rebooting, my phone was stuck at the boot screen that says "google", and shows the unlocked lock, symbolizing the unlocked bootloader. I waited 15 minutes, and it would not go past this screen. I took out the battery and tried again, and still no luck. I then went back to the boot loader and into clockworkmod recovery (which still boots), and tried to install the stock i9020a 2.3.6. The install fails every time. It says there is no "cache" partition on my phone. I installed cyanogenmod 7 and it says the installation succeeded, but i still cannot boot past the google screen. I can only access the unlocked bootloader screen and clockwordmod. I have included screenshots of what happens in clockworkmod when I boot it up, or try to install a rom. Any help would really be very much appreciated. I am very sad to lose my beloved $529 phone, which has served me very well.
This is the guide I used to flash ICS:

you need a newer version of clockwork recovery, that one is old and wont work with ics. or you can try twrp recovery, i prefer it personally. i believe clockwork recovery is up to 5.0.2.X
Thank you so much! How would I flash a new version if I can't boot into any OS?
..
Ok. I've installed clockworkmod recovery touch (I believe it is the latest one) and was able to revert to cyanogenmod 7. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I really cannot thank you enough! You have saved my nexus!!!

One X doesn't have an OS anymore

So my At&t One X (evita) has been rooted and the bootloader has been unlocked for some time now. I came from the old Htc Hero on Sprint, so I am use to rooting and flashing roms. The issue is I decided to try Cm10 and I flashed it correctly through the flash gui app. An update appeared at the top so I (like a noob) decided to install it.. I realized after the fact how I had messed up by not using flash gui (boot.img ,etc..) , So it would boot to the Htc logo and then just blackness would occur. I could and still could go to the bootloader successfully though. My mistake was doing a whole factory reset from the phone so no more TWRP recovery unit... I went back to the utility that I rooted and unlocked my bootloader on and relocked it just in case I needed to flash something such as a RUU (whatever that is) but I do have one ready to be installed. I tried to do it myself and kept getting the sentence in the picture posted... Can anyone help me??
that picture doesn't help much, my not relock bootloader run the .exe ruu. then reunlock and flash twrp then flash a rom? also flashimagegui doesnt flash a rom all it does it flash boot.img and modules or recovery. you still have to reboot into recovery and flash the rom zip. since youve used android before it is an easy fix. so fix it already =)

glad u got it working again. i would recommend doing s-off so you don't have to flash boot.img separately anymore.

Won't boot into recovery or start up! Help unbrick my phone!

So I installed the elemental kernel and now my phone won't start up or boot into recovery. I tried to relock the bootloader and then tried the RUU files for t-mobile and telus, none worked, but I can't find one for Wind Mobile which is what my phone's original carrier was. Please help!
which kernel did you flash--have link
are you s3 or s4
i think you have to be on stock recovery for ruu, never done it so not 100% sure as i have seen diff posts on it
Apparently wiping all data from the bootloader let me access recovery, thus I have fixed the phone. Thank you though!
glad you got it--

You made a couple common mistakes...first of all, you didn't do your homework. If you had read through the threads pertaining to our phone, you would have seen that ROM Manager doesn't work on our phones. Secondly, you tried to flash a recovery for another phone.
Please read Lumin's guide on how to use Heimdall to flash to rooted Gingerbread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21953878&postcount=2)...then read the developer's instructions on how to flash the KitKat ROM of your choice once you are have successfully flashed rooted Gingerbread.
Flashing ROM's requires reading and patience.
