[Q] Why is this happening?? How to keep new pictures and videos?? - Milestone XT720 General

i'm using khalpower's rom but this problem was here before that too... everytime i restart the phone, the recent images and videos just disappear, deleted!! BUT; if i rename the new photo-video files to somethng else than its original name(defaultly date-time combination) those files can stay in sdcard after restarts.... why does the phone or software deletes all the recently taken image files if we leave them with original name???

I have never seen/heard anything like this. So you just take a photo, see it on the sd card, then reboot. Picture gone?

Exatly, the picture is on sdcard but after reboot its gone :s. If i rename that picture file, it stays on card even i reboot...
But i have a dcim/camera folder on sdcard from 2.1 eclair and when i take a photo it's located another camera folder in the same directory.... i will try to delete old folder and take pics now maybe with a fresh folder it will be good....

Try restoring your rom again, what rom are you running? Also try reformatting your sd card

What's wrong? Files in DCIM\100MEDIA not showing up. Not even in File Explorer

Everything WAS working fine. Then suddenly none of my images in the 100MEDIA folder will even show up. They wont show up in HTC Browser nor will they show up in File Explorer. Explorer shows there are no files in there. I thought they got deleted so I took the SD card out and put it in my computer. Sure enough, every file is THERE. Whew.. I backed them up and re-inserted into phone, then booted phone back up. They still aren't showing up. One problem I noticed was that I had a duplicate 100MEDIA folder in the root directory of the storage card. I forgot I made a backup folder one time and forgot to delete the copy I moved. I noticed on the computer that every picture that was saved in the main 100MEDIA folder , duplicated itself in the copy folder. Yes, even the most recent pics I took long after I copied that folder. I deleted that copy and rebooted... still, they are not showing up. I took 3 pics earlier today, the very last one is in the 100MEDIA folder, but the other 2 are missing. They arent even on the device memory. I dont know where they went.
How do I get the images to show up again? What is screwed up? There is no longer a duplicate folder. Yeah, I had figured somehow the dup screwed it up. I just don't know why I cant see any of the files in there now.
Never mind, I fixed it. The dupe didn't screw it up, the folder just wouldn't show up, now would any of the files. I had to delete it, then open the camera , set settings to save in storage card, take a pic then go to view it in the browser. No idea why it did this. Wouldn't even see the files using File Explorer. They were there, just wouldn't show them. Dumb. Apparently some WM phones had this problem in the past on the Touch Pro and Touch. Deleting the folder is the only way to get it to work again.
this can happen if you unplug your TP2 too quickly from the pc/laptop, Tp2 wont see the sd anymore and will create anohther SD folder (empty)...just could be man...good you got yours fixed

[Q] Format SD-card?

Hey guys, ive got little space left on my sd card in my nexus.
Can i format it? What do i do with the clockwork folder?
Thank you
If you do not intend to flash a new ROM then no you can't. I'm pretty sure you can if you flash a ROM, but remember to backup your photos and music first.
Is there a reason why you can't just delete some of your media or photos? If you've done a few nandroid backups in CWM you can delete any old ones in the app.

Actually, after a few more seconds thought, if you've copied your music and photos onto your computer, I'm pretty sure you could do this:
1) do a complete nandroid backup
2) locate it, copy the entire directory to your computer
3) make a note of where it came from (the directory tree)
4) format your sdcard
5) copy your nandroid backup back to your sdcard making sure the directory structure is the same as before
6) restore your nandroid backup
There may be important catalogue files in the CWM directory, so it may be better to copy the entire CWM backup directory tree from its root.

Ive tought the same thing. I deleted my old backups, then i backup music and photos (7gb~) theni copy the whole clockwork folder back to the telephone?

To restore from a nandroid from complete stock just create a folder called clockworkmod. Inside that folder create another called backup. In that folder paste your old backup file. If you format the whole sd card some files and settings will be missing when you restore.
IMO its easier to copy all the files you want to your pc, then just go through your phone and delete all the files you don't use on a regular basis

I just did that, and it worked fine. Everything was te same as before the format. I only had 2gb of photos though. Maybe you should go through yours before copying back to your phone and weed out any you don't need.
I use the instant upload with G+ (WiFi Only) and as I take photos, they get uploaded to a private album. Once they're uploaded I delete them from the phone. Saves space .

Does it keep them at full Q? Been thinking about it but was waiting for G+ to allow Google Apps accounts

Store image files on internal memory (Non-SD) and be able to see them in the Gallery?

Is there any way to store image files on the phone's internal memory, not mnt/SDCard, and have them show up in the gallery?
I use Desktop Visualizer for custom (large) icons but almost every time I put the phone into USB mode the icons get messed up.

Try to use a file manager. If that doesn't work, try a root browser.. If you have a root browser, simply copy the picture files from the SD card, then paste them into one of the folders in your internal storage.:good:

I've done this but I'm not sure where to put the images so that they'll show up in Gallery. I've made sure to give the folder and images read/execute privs as well.
Edit: this is to hide them lol, sorry.
Make a text file and name it .nomedia and put it in that folder and it won't be scanned.
Google .nomedia to be sure, but this is what you need.

[Q] What's on my SD Card?

I wanted to start this thread because I am having trouble, (and I assume other noobs are as well), understanding what's on my SD Card and how to navigate through it.
I've attached what I see when I open my device and check the internal storage.
My main reasoning for trying to understand all that's on my SD Card is because it's important! And because I'm trying to figure out where all my apps are stored. I recently installed the venom custom ROM, and since then have lost the knowledge of where my .apk files are stored. That's really what I'm after trying to find those files. I've searched every folder but still no dice. I used Titanium Pro to backup all my files but there is nothing located in the Titanium folder.
Can anybody help me identify where my .apk files are located?
I also have a few .apk files I wish to install on my phone. From what I've gathered the way to do this is to add them to where the other .apk files are located and then Fix Permissions. If I cannot locate my .apk files is there another file path I could save it to?
Lastly I have these two files I have not recognized before, BUGSENSE and .profig
What are these files?
So if you're downloading the apks off a website they'll be in the downloads folder if you downloaded then through Google play..they won't be on your sd unless you manually backed up them up through titanium

Right okay, so if I choose to back them up onto the SD card then my .apk file paths should appear? Because as you can see now I have no app folders on my phone (sd card) currently.
I've backed up my phone via titanium still nothing in there is an .apk file.
I'm also interested in keeping my phone clean of useless things (another reason for this thread).
As file explorer. Settings allow up to root allow root. Go up from sd card. System/data folder

If you go to titanium backup location on sd card and open it you will find what you looking for. Its pretty easy to restore backup in titanium app itself.....also a true backup should be done in twrp recovery as it backs up everything (file partitions, kernel, radio, apps) it will save a copy (known as a nandriod backup) on your sd card that you can recover if your rom won't boot or you just need to restore .

Make sure you enable writing to the root folder as well. System apps are in system/app.

[Q] Whatsapp can't see pictures

I've been changing a lot of ROMs lately and I've noticed that internal memory of the phone sometimes has different names, like sdcard0, sd and any other.
Which is why when going from 1 ROM to another whatsapp saves the path of received photos with original root folder name and can't open many pictures on another ROM.
Am I right about the reason and is there a fix for that?
At least could smb say where to find the file where this path is saved so that I could manually rename the wrong paths.
And if I'm wrong about that what's the reason for whatsapp being unable to open photos on new ROM?
It is because of vold.fstab replace vold.fstab from the top previous rom and set permissions (you must be rooted to perform this)
And vold.fstab is found inside system/etc folder

So what do I need to do?
I should have saved this file from previous rom?
Have you kept the same SIM card? have you tried reinstalling the app? I've never had any problems with whatsapp before...

How is simcard related?
And no I didn't install the app, I anticipated the problem with unopening pictures with my magic powers.
