Hi,
New to forums and have what may be a dumb question but feel I should ask
I have been using my clock app as my alarm clock at night. I am curious if this is bad for my screen over the long-term? The app appears to move the clock around to avoid burn-in (or at least that out what I assume it is for).... Any comments? I don't keep my phones forever, but I'd hope to use it for 2 to 3 years.
Any info would be great! Thanks.

When using the clock app how do you get the screen to stay on do you use the docking station.
I use the clock app set the brightness to minimum to save battery power then the screen turns off after a couple of minutes.

No I do not use a dock, I just stand it up against the lamp on my night stand.
I haven't set anything special, but you are right in the sense that the screen will eventually dim, but my clock stays lit and moves around every few minutes.

Oh and I have mine plugged in to the wall too....just picked up that you said "too save battery power". I bet it is programmed to turn the screen off when it is on battery, and leaves it on when plugged in.

Mine doesn't drop under 70%. Anyone else have this issue?

Doesn't really say anything. It just means that your display is taking up (approximately) 70% of the total power used.
You have to see it in relation to how you use your phone. If you have it just lying around with all power hungry stuff off and just turn on the display to look up the time from time to time you might get such a figure.
Just wondering, how many of you use it?
I've started using it today, and it seems good
I use it on Endymion, where there's an option to male the automatic to the lowest value, so it won't always be too high.
So is it better to use auto Brightness, or keep it locked?
I heard auto Brightness drains battery ad the proximity sensor is always alert... But that should be the same case as the Button keylights...
So, please share!

I use Auto Brightness all the time - my phone brightness button is set to toggle between Auto and 100%. The only reason I keep the 100% on there is because I use my phone as a satnav and switch the brightness to 100% when it's mounted on my car windscreen with the USB power plugged in.
Never had a problem with it, and still get reasonable battery usage from it.
I stopped caring about my battery life a long time ago. I just do whatever feels best. But that doesn't mean I leave my brightness at 100%! I like auto brightness because then I don't have to adjust my battery at night and then again when I go outside etc. etc.
Although I have heard a lot of people leaving their brightness at 40

Thanks for the replies fellas!
Yeah, i always keep mine locked at 46%, and in the night I have to crank it down when its too bright, which is a pain!
So far, so good for me!
Battery seems decent!
Would like to hear some more opinions from other guys too
Cheers

Is anybody having issues with their Skyrocket keeping the volume setting and screen brightness where you left it? I've noticed that the past 2 days I will wake my phone up and the screen brightness is almost at the lowest setting. And I usually keep it around 50% all the time. I keep auto brightness off. Also just today, my incoming call volume was set to really low. And I always have it turned up. And before anybody says, are you sure you're not hitting the buttons..? I am not. Especially since ths is going on day 3 now. Thanks for the help..

don't know about the call volume, but if the phone gets to hot, it will automatically reduce the brightness, regardless as to your settings.

thanks for the info. But this has happened after the phone has been asleep for about 2 hours. Weird but I hasn't happened all day today. Pacific

Do you have power saving mode enabled? I know that will reduce the brightness automatically.
Does anyone have any idea why my screen is always listed at 72% on the usage acreen? From what I have seen others are at around 40-50%.
This happens even when I have brightness lowered to 20% (and following several power cycles) so I am perplexed. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks. (Edit: 72%, not 78.)

What is your screen in time?

Thanks for the quick reply. This happens from the moment I am done charging, even after the phone has been powered down. Right now I am at around 7hrs on from dead, maybe 2hrs screen time.
Funny thing is there seems to be no variance (whether I put brightness up to 100 or down to 10), which leads me to think the reading may be inaccurate.
My soft key lights do stay on all the time, unless I am in the full sun or put the phone up to a bright light, but apparently that is normal.

Just an update in case anyone else had the same issue: after about 24 hours at low brightness without a reboot, the phone finally seems to he reporting the correct brightness on the usage chart.
It's strange and I don't know what caused it to finally act normal. Just glad I don't have to consider an exchange.

Just to be clear... You meant battery, not memory. Right?
Yes, right! Battery, not memory, usage. Thanks.
I usually run about 50% but am thinking about trying auto brightness.
What brightness do you use?
I use about 50% I was also thinking about switching to auto as well just to save a little battery life

Always use auto. But sometimes I like turning it up to enjoy the nice big amoled screen.

I have lux installed. Many times in doors or at night even 0% is too bright for me, so I set lux to - 25 or - 50. In the daytime in my car or outdoors I set phone to 100%.

Mine is pretty much always at around 70%

mine is on auto brightness 95% of the time,
get about 5 hours on screen time on 4.1.1 ROM with stock kernel..
ICS OTA modem/rpm works best for me.
40 indoors.. 70 or 100 at work under the height fluorescent lights. 0 in bed in the morning

0 until it needs to be higher. then i adjust accordingly.
0 % with auto brightness

I use Lux. SGS3 Auto Brightness is FAR too high brightness even at night. The lowest available brightness setting is still overly bright. Lux takes care of this and drops the brightness even lower using dimming filters. You can even customize your own Auto Brightness settings instead of being stuck with SGS3's default Auto Brightness.
Just plain old auto... Lol
Always set at 50%

Mine is usually either full dim or full bright. Using CM10.1 with the brightness slider in the notification bar option, and I hate auto.. There are times indoors that there is something in the middle, but usually it's one or the other.
100%. This screen is too beautiful, to not have lit up.
lol i use a little less than 50%. I think most people use around that range.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
If I'm around a charger and an outlet I use 100%. Otherwise I turn I down to 40%-50%.

Check out the app called lux. Way better than stock

I hover around a third of the max brightness.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
so lux reduces it even lower
is there anything that increases brightness?
sometimes in direct sunlight, full is not enough.
I always run "Auto". Its very snappy on every Rom I've use so far.
