So last night, I root my Inspire with the 1-click method.
This morning, I notice it won't download anything from the marketplace, no matter how many times I clear market data/cache, download manager cache etc., so I figured I might as well go ahead and flash a custom rom.
I load up the latest Cyanogenmod for my phone on the SD card, flash CWM, and reboot into recovery. However, there's an issue with the 1-click as it turns out that makes recovery boot to a blank screen for some people, including me apparently. So, instead of leaving it as it was and using the fix in the 1-click, I for some reason not terribly clear to me, decide it would be a good idea to pop out the battery. Now, it gets stuck at the HTC screen if I try to power it up normally, and if I do the hold power+vol up+vol down thing to try to get it to boot into recovery, it just sits at a blank, as in off, screen. Googling about leads me to wipe and flash a new rom, but if I can't get in to the phone, how exactly do I Do that?
Also, fiddling with the phone as I write this, I put the gold card in and was able to boot into hboot. I can fix it from here, right?
Edit: It turns out letting hboot do its thing brought it out of the boot loop.
Sorry to waste the time of anyone who read this, but it may serve useful to someone else with this problem.
Edit 2: It still, however, won't let me download Anything from the market. Any suggestions there?

Were you able to re-flash the same ROM or flash a different one?
I re-flashed the same rom, just a stock root.
I can install apps fine by sending them from the market on my Desktop, but every time I try to download something through the market on the phone itself, it starts the download before immediately sutting to a "download unsuccessful, try again later" dialog box.

Hey guys I really need your help, my phone has been down for the past 3 days now. I followed this guide:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=547133&page=2. I will state that I am new to the forum so I cannot post on the actual how to, due to rules, or I would have. Basically i have made it all the way thru the guide, to the point where it tells me to:
- press MENU to power off! (do not reboot)
- hold HOME and POWER to boot into recovery mode
- apply update
once I reach there I have no way of resetting the phone so I just pulled battery after it said the cyanogenmod was installed from sdcard. I flashed the splash.nb, but now all that happens is my phone loads up the MyTouch 3g screen freezes for a few min then restarts and goes back into Android System Recovery screen. I really need your help and would be forever great-full if someone could lend me a hand. I will check back regularly.
Thank you very much ahead of time for whoever lends me a hand.
Troubled Guy With Non Working Phone
OP here
Come on guys someone has to have had this problem before. Even if you are sending me to another link who has dealt with this before it will still be a help.
First of all, I'm not familiar with your phone. But I will try to give you a few ideas and see if any of it works for you.
If you have a recovery installed and you have flashed Cyanogenmod, then you are rooted. I'm not sure how your recovery works, but you should have to use the volume buttons & power button to navigate recovery - or something similar. If you can get into recovery, you should be fine.
Go to the wipe menu and wipe cache/dalvik cache. If these weren't wiped properly before flashing, this could be the culprit. There should be an option to reboot, you may have to choose go back a couple times to find it. If that doesn't work, try flashing a different rom. You'll need to wipe everything in recovery (except the SD card) first, then choose "flash zip from SD card".
If your battery is almost dead, don't try flashing anything, just wipe. You'll need to get an external charger or a full battery before flashing anything.
Again, I don't know how your phone works, I have an Evo & pretty much just treated your post as such. It's a start, though. If you can give me more info, I can try to help further.
I also just noticed this is an old method for an old version of the phone. You do have the phone this was made for, correct? Have you tried sending a pm to the OP?
There is most likely an easier, newer way to root, but what's done is done. It also seems like it may be using Amon Ra recovery? If that's the case, that's the recovery I use so I can help you out there. You may also want to look at how to unroot and get your phone back to stock, then start over. I'm going in to work, but if you post back I'll try to help you out as soon as I get the chance.
The Android Market is no longer installed on my Captivate. I have been running Cognition 2.6.32.9 for a while now and decided I needed to upgrade to 4.2.3, so I started doing that following a guide I found that said I needed to disable the lagfix. Once the phone started back up after I disabled the lagfix it seemed to be at default rom settings. It changed the background back to the cognition background, none of my apps were on the home page, etc etc. Another thing I noticed is that I can't find the market anywhere on the phone. I need to install clockwork so that I can install the new version of Cognition. How do I go about doing this?

You can get the market app on their website.
As for cwm, it's usually implamented in custom ROM? Try to reboot in recovery and if you get the green text (cwm 2.5) -> You have it already!
When I go to the market in the browser it says that Rom Manager is already installed, but I can't find it anywhere in the app drawer.

Are you on a custom ROM already? (Cognition I believe you said?) If it's the case, go in recovery using the extended power menu. You don't need Rom Manager to do it for you.
Also, you can re-download Rom Manager even if it says it's installed.
I tried to redownload Rom Manager in the brower. It didn't do anything though. When I went into recovery I was given the option to reboot, reinstall packages, delete all user data, delete cache data, and format the internal sd card. I tried to reinstall packages but that didn't seem to do anything. Another thing I noticed is that when I try to connect the phone to my computer the phone doesn't seem to realize it is connected. I don't get the option to turn on the usb connection.
edit: Well now I seem to have bigger problems. I managed to get into recovery and reinstall cognition 2.6, then I got the zip for 4.3 onto the phone. Then I went back into recovery to install that, started installing and then I got an error, and it stopped installing. I tried to install it again, same thing. So I just gave up and went to reboot and now it is stuck at the at&t screen. I can get the screen to turn black for a few seconds by holding the power and volume buttons, but then it goes back to the at&t screen.

Ok you need to give more info on that error.. Were you on 2.2 froyo? If so, you'll need this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1052991
Now for your actual problem.. You'll need to get in download mode:
Unplug usb;
Remove battery;
Hold volume buttons; (don't release no matter what)
Plug the usb;
Put the battery back in.
You might need to try a few times for it to work.
After that, you'll need Odin3 one click downloader (and only that one) to get back to stock.
From there, you'll be able to recover.
I figured it out now. Thanks for the help. I'm on Cognition 4.3 now and it's working perfectly.
just some info for anyone that reads:
sometimes after flashing a custom rom, the market thinks its a new phone, and will show your "purchases" of all your "phones" sometimes you must push install to your "new phone"
also sometimes you need to reboot for the push to go to your phone, or wait about 5 minutes.
but you got it glad to hear!

Np! Glad you got your phone back the way you like it
i im on the same rom but an old version. if i were to upgrade or transfer to a different rom i would have to disable lag fix? correct? or could i just odin it and flash it?
Ok be prepared, this post may be rather long winded however I will try my best to prevent that. I have a Tmobile G2x I purchased on launch date. Ive not attempted to Root, change roms, or anything of the sort. (as much as I always wanted to, I always felt that my skills were not good enough to attempt these ideas no matter how easy they may seem. I just did not want to be the cause of screwing up my phone that I paid dearly for)
So I have a friend who claims to be the master (of disaster so it turns out) of rooting androids and such. He stops by my house just to hang out and eventualy convinces me to let him root my phone and install CM7. Within a few minutes the phone was rooted (super1click) and was running CM7 release candidate. (I really dont know what all these things truly are but I drilled him for answers once he jacked up my phone and left me with a half-bricked phone) So he installed Rom manager and convinced me to upgrade to the premium version via marketplace so I did. He was then showing me how easy it was to flash new roms at the touch of a few buttons. He put on some other rom which looked like CM7 but claimed to have extra tweaks. It worked fine. A few minutes later he put on some Faux Rom which gave a boot up screen like my old Nexus One did. (Multicolored X) It seemed to work fine as well. Then he said lets check out the nightly CM7 Rom so he put it on. (however I dont think it ever actually put CM7 back on.-still on Faux?) Thats when things got crazy.
Now I get the com.google.process.gapps force close message all the time. He tried to fix it for 4 hours and finally gave up. Here is what I know he/we tried: After searching the internet for hours we tried everyone elses ideas. Clearing calenders cashes, un syncing, etc. We did about 40 factory resets. We have tried to install my backup (which was from BEFORE he even touched my phone) and upon holding both volume rockers and plugging in USB (no battery installed) and it still does nothing. Windows recognizes device but phone screen stays black. Tried Debug mode while doing this as well. If we hold the volume down button and power the little install bar comes on the screen and it does its thing (whatever that is) and goes right back to the way it was. I keep getting the gapps message all the time. After factory reset I cant even type in my gmail address to start the initial setup of the phone. The force close keeps cutting me off. If I type fast, I can sync the account but I cant use market whatsoever. Tried installing Rom manager to re-flash but just sticks at starting download and gapps pops up again.
My son is starting school tomorrow and he has a medical condition. I NEED this phone to communicate with the school nurse via emails and such. As of now I can only text, call, or surf web all while dodging force closes. If ANYONE out there can please help me get my phone back to normal Id greatly appreciate it. Im sure its something easy but as I said before, Im not good at this thing and thats why I never attempted it myself. Your welcome to submit answers here or PM me your phone # if you want to walk me through it on the phone. (I have a landline phone to talk to you on) Thanks in advance for everyones time and Im sorry this ended up being so long.
Download latest Gapps.zip from Cyanogen site to your phone's SD card, boot into recovery, wipe data and cache then flash the Gapps.zip file. Let me know if this helps.
I will try this now. Thank you
Im unable to get anywhere. It still has stock recovery and I cannot get to the screen where I can wipe. Im not great at this sort of thing but Im trying.

i think you would be better off starting from scratch
1. remove your sd card from your phone and plug it in your computer
2. download the latest rom here
3. download gapps from the download links at the bottom of this page
4. transfer both files onto the sd card and put it back into your phone.
5. with your phone off, boot your phone into recovery by holding vol down+power
6. wipe data, cache, and dalvik cache
7. flash only the cm7 file
8. reboot normally
9. reboot into recovery
10. flash gapps
11. reboot normally
after you flash one file, it is highly recommended that you reboot before you flash another file (if your friend didnt do this, this may have been the problem)

Hi!
I could use a little help. Following the lovely directions here, I successfully rooted my phone (XWLF2) Android 2.3.6 and was attempting to CM 10.2 to add jellybean. That went OK, I added the Gapps (which also seemed OK) but then I got stuck on the CVM recovery system. It would not reboot. Turning the phone off and back on kept me on the same screen. Finally, since I had only a /data directory to clear and not the /dbdata originally stated, I tried to clear /boot.
Well, that worked! Got me out of CVM but now my phone turns on, hits the Samsung loading screen and stays there... eventually you can make it loop but it come back to the load screen. I cant even seem to get it to go into download or recovery mode. All the files are still in the SDs but it wont get to them.
How can I re-boot it? Or start form scratch... if nothing is in there, how can I add it, say go back to original and then try again.
I'd appreciate any help you could give. I know I newb-ed it but help anyway. Thanks!
Cheers!

you cant get in download or recovery mode??? but you can see samsumg logo.... if you cant enter in either of the two modes that I mentioned then use JIG(a hardware device that fits in the charging/USB slot of phone, available on ebay for like $2) to enter instant download mode... flash a stock rom from ODIN and you are done .. let me know if it worked
Little better now
mh,
Reading you comment prompted me to try and get into DL or Recovery mode again and that did work. I could get into DL mode. Trying to load original ROM now. We'll see how it goes. Thanks for the suggestion. At least I figured out that it should still get into the modes.

Well, it helped but not entirely. I got it into DL mode and tried to re-install XWLF2 (as originally installed). It attached to Odin successfully, took about a minute and 'passed'. However, it now goes further but still does not complete it goes past the Samsung logo screen, makes the swirly. twirling stars with sound and the hits the second small Samsung Name screen and sits there.
Should I try the re-install with the sim and SD card removed? Does that impact it in any way?
Should I start with a different base? In the end I would like to get it rooted and to jellybean before I start re-loading everything else. What is the shortest direct route to that end?
Thanks for the continued advice,
Cheers!

Hi,
Apologies if this has been asked before, but I've done a relatively thorough search and I can't find a solution to this problem.
I have an S6 (SM-G920F), It was playing up for a few weeks before this, not charging well, and what not, thought it was a cable/hardware issue. Then it stopped working entirely. Initially when it was plugged into the wall it would say it was 91% charged, but if you tried to turn it on it would turn off, and reboot into the charging screen.
I've done quite alot of reading and I've ended up flashing it with Odin (I have a single .md5 file, which i've loaded onto the phone via AP) using the most recent FIrmware UK EE for the SM-G20F. This was successful, however now it only loads the Black screen with white text Samsung S6 powered by android screen and then goes blank and back to the white text screen.
I downloaded an alternative firmware (the one previous version), but this has had the same effect. I've tried to repartition with odin, but this fails.
1.) Is there anyway I can fix this?
2.) If not Is there anyway to remove files whilst in downlod mode?
3.) If I cannot fix it or recover my data, is there anyway to wipe the data securely from my phone so I can sell it for parts?
At present, I can't access recovery mode, only download mode. But whilst Odin communicates with the phone in download mode, I can't seem to access my files from explorer?
1. I would say you'd have to clear cache, immediately after flashing the firmware with Odin, but to do that, you'd have to get to Recovery Mode first...
Why can't you get to it? Does it just start trying to boot nornally? Because if so, it's just a matter of timing it. What I do is... hold power+home+voldown to get to the screen that asks me if I want to get into Download Mode, I press cancel, and immediately start holding power+home+volup until I see the bootsplash screen, and release the power button but keep holding home+volup, and it gets me to Recovery every time, even when I have difficulties such as this.
2. Not that I'm aware of. BUT you could flash TWRP with Odin, and if you then can manage to get to Recovery, you just need to plug your phone into a computer, and your phone will show up in the computer as a device/disk and you can freely remove stuff from it.
If... IF this were to work, I would suggest downloading a stock-based ROM and flashing it. It's far more likely to work properly and bootup without issue than the firmwares you can get, and it's far less much of a headache to do.
3. Nope. There are apps that can wipe data securely (such as Shreddit which does it according to military standards), but it can't be done from Download Mode. There may be some script that could do it in Recovery Mode, but I doubt it.
I mean... technically... you could flash TWRP, go to Recovery, move to your PC all the stuff you want to keep, select the wipe option in TWRP and then transfer randomly generated data from your PC to your phone until it's full - there are many apps that can generate such data. It's not something you could pass off as very very secure, but it should suffice.
I seem to always keep going to trying TWRP - so, you know, give it a shot.

Thanks for your reply! So after flashing it goes straight back into the boot loop. Weirdly if its plugged into my laptop it spend about a second or two on the "Samsung Galaxy S6: Powered by Android" screen before plunging into darkness and shortly after repeating the same message. However if I plug it into the wall it spend over twice as long on that screen before repeating the cycle. It never goes any further.
I've tried your suggestion about perhaps its timing for recovery mode, but even if I go straight from cancelling download mode to trying the power, up and home key it doesn't go to recovery. I've tried a variety of timings both plugged into my laptop and plugged into the wall to no avail. If the phone isn't plugged in, it literally won't do anything whatsoever, won't even hint at turning on.
So Next I tried flashing it with TWRP via Odin and nothings changed, exactly the same bootloop and I still can't get into recovery mode.
I'm starting to think that sadly this phone my be beyond repair! Thanks for your help though, much appreciated.
Hi! I usually run out of my bootloops like this:
try this:
1: go to download mode, and press Power + home + volume —
2: As soon as the screen turns black, continue pressing Power and home, quickly release "volume —" and press "volume +". This will get you into recovery mode.
It always worked for me, so I wish the same for you. Good luck! (And sorry for my bad english)

Hi Vinicius,
Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately it didn't work, I even tried flashing it back to a standard ROM from TWRP, but it still didn't do anything, just back to the Samsung logo and the loop continues ever more!
Hi, I have this problem as well.
Originally I had TWRP and root flashed into my phone but for reasons I needed to remove root.
So I followed the Odin route stated here "Mobikin how to remove root from android" (I can't post links but this should be the top result when googling)
However I didn't know if the recovery/boot should have went into AP or BL on the Odin menu and googling didn't give me any answers so I may have tried both....
Right now I tried flashing TWRP and I can't seem to boot into TWRP as well.
I was able to get into recovery mode but clearing data/cache didn't fix it for me.
EDIT: I managed to flash in another stock rom and it boots into the SAMSUNG logo but gets stuck there. I already went into recovery mode to delete data and cache partition but it still doesn't boot.

Same experience. For all those 6 years that I used this device, the wifi was okay until now. It (wifi) is very buggy (turning on and off, and sometimes won't turn on at all) so I restarted the device, then bootloop happens. I flashed the stock rom via odin and clear data and cache. But it is still bootlooping. I think this is the sign that I need to replace my phone IF I couldn't find a fix to this.
