Wasn't sure what to title this thread. But its a pretty simple question.
Can the Xoom be programmed to react to being put in either dock?
I don't mean necessarily when charging begins because I can probably use Tasker for that. But specifically if the device is put into either dock, go into a bed side mode or something?
First off, your thread title was completely accurate and descriptive. Thank you for that.
Regarding your actual issue, THEORETICALLY this should work. However, I have been unable to get Tasker to recognize my Motorola Standard Dock on my WiFi-only XOOM. I am trying to make mine set the media volume to maximum when docked, roughly half-way when undocked, and a third of the way up when on headphones.
Has Tasker's dock detection worked for anyone else?
Sadly tasker doesn't seem to get me where I want to be with it. Is it too much to ask for the clock to come up when I drop it on? Meh guess so, only one of 2 complaints about the device in a month ain't bad I guess

I'm rather near sighted so unless I duct tape the alarm clock to my head I have no chance in hell to actually see the numbers displayed on it at night without contacts or glasses. I've been looking around for app that does one simple thing: tell me the time when i say "time" (or something similar).
My search so far has come up mostly short. I found an app that tells me the time when I shake, touch, or wave my hand over the device. There are also half a million bad Siri knockoffs that will tell me the time if I push a button. However what I really want is an app that monitors audio the entire night and doesn't need to be prodded in any way to notice me speaking to it.
There has to be something out there that can do this. I mean, the built in voice thing responds to "hi galaxy" which could in theory work if it would just understand when I ask it for the time. There are also sleep recorders and such apps that obviously don't mind monitoring audio all night long, as long as you plug it in so power isn't an issue.
Does anyone have any ideas for such an app?
EDIT: If I'm to be very feature-greedy I also wouldn't mind if it turned on the LED when I say "lights" or something like that, but I imagine that's more than just a little bit unlikly to exist
EDIT2: Forgot I was in a general part of the forum, so just to be clear, will be using this on a galaxy s ii or galaxy tab 7.0 plus
The device doesn't really matter, such app should run on any device.
I like the idea!
I will give it a shot after my exam on thursday, but no promises , already have some cool ideas .
You should be aware that this is not battery efficient at all and if your phone is not connected to a charger it might run empty during the night.

Of course, as I said that's what sleep talk monitors require too.
I did actually find something...on my iPad. There are a couple of apps like that on iOS. I ended up with one where you simply clap to hear the time. Hasn't been updated in ages but still works. There's another one that you actually say "time" to but I think you need to say its name to wake it up first, so didn't even try that one.
Would definitely prefer to have it on Android though, so would be awesome f you got something working
EDIT: decided to buy the other app for iOS just to make a video as a reference:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uXgS0aW10v8
Seems that development simply stopped on that one. Not been updated in ages. Having to say "hello kei" every time is indeed annoying
Spent my first night with the clap activated clock on the iPad. Wow, this truly makes a world of difference to someone like me who's practically blind without glasses or contacts. Ended up waking up a few times during the night, especially close to the time to get up, so being able to get the time without fumbling around for glasses and actually waking up in the process literally made it easier to sleep too
So I was scanning eBay for Bluetooth docks, and came across this, " Bluetooth A2DP Music Audio Receiver Adapter for iPhone 4 4S iPod ". Search for it on eBay, without the quotation marks obviously.
Wow, really? I'm not allowed to post a clickable link to eBay??? How about the moderators just do their job and remove spam posts like the moderators on other forums I'm on do, rather than **** up new members ability to post helpful information. Because I'm damn sure not gonna run back out and get my post count up just so I can post a link.
Anyway............................
It's an adapter that sits in an iPod/iPhone dock, and receives audio via Bluetooth! It requires, obviously, a dock that is capable of charging the iPod/iPhone, as it uses that as it's power source. I have a Samsung HW-D7000 Blu-Ray receiver that came with an iPod/iPhone dock, and this will be put to great use now, rather than just sitting in the box in my attic! Hahaha. And at only freakin $16, it's a great deal! I'll come back and let you guys know how well it works as soon as I receive it, and get to test it out.
Also, this opens up out possibilities for buying docks for out phones too! I actually already have a Phillips Fidelio AS140 Android dock, and it is awesome! Has great sound via Bluetooth, and honestly, I prefer being able to play music through a dock without it being required to be sitting in the dock. As I know it's bad on the battery to continually be in a charging status, but also it's very nice to be able to carry the phone around the house in my pocket and control the volume and music being played, rather than awkwardly leaning down to use the phone on the dock.
Holy ****!!! This is absolutely the most aggravating forum to post to that I have ever been on as a new member!
Hahahahahahahahahahaha, oh my dear freakin' god. And I received an "Error" trying to post this also! Gotta wait 5 minutes before I'm allowed to post again. Maybe one day, xda with graciously allow me to offer up help without it being a pain in the ass to do so. I'm not an expert, but I do like to offer help and advice when I'm able to.
Sorry for the rants, I get angry when things don't work like I would like them to. Hahaha.
The restrictions, while aggravating, are there to prevent spam and malware links. Frustrating, but necessary unfortunately.
That's a great find, though. Provided it works (I see no reason it shouldn't) it opens up the previously very limited number of Android capable docks, and makes a Bluetooth solution very affordable.

Yea, I understand why the restrictions would be put into place, but I also take responsibility for my own computer, and what finds its way onto it. Enough of that though.
I will most certainly be relaying how well this works, and any quirks it may have. I did find a Bluetooth receiver that can be used with any stereo with a 3.5mm audio input, and it has about a 3-4 hour battery life. The only issue with it so far, is that it can only be used on battery power. You can't just plug the charger up, and leave it. So basically, you use it until the battery dies, and you must charge it completely, then unplug the charger before you're able to use it again. It's still pretty impressively simple, functional, and easy to use tho.
So one feature not many people realize the Samsung Galaxy S3 has is the ability to redirect the line output through a dock. This is particularly helpful in a car where you can have it actually output straight to the stereo system when you plug it into a dock, but even in a home environment it can be handy if you have a dock with speakers built in or just leave something plugged into a dock for convenience. However, it seems in CyanogenMod 10 monthly at least it doesn't work. When I clicked the "request device support" button (thinking he probably wouldn't even touch CM10 given that it's still not really "officially supporting" the SGS3 yet anyway, I did get this response:
Please have the ROM dev supporting your model verify the correct mapping exists between the ROM audio device and the kernel audio path (commonly set in libaudio).
Example: DEVICE_OUT_ANLG_DOCK_HEADSET in ROM should map to the path PLAYBACK_EXTRA_DOCK in the kernel.

Dan

So if I go by this it sounds like it's mostly just a matter of a configuration in the audio libraries being used and I just need to let someone know.
I know this isn't important by any means, but it does seem like something that should probably still go in there just whenever they could get around to it. It can be very convenient at times IMO.
I believe all the framework is there.. we are just waiting on http://review.cyanogenmod.org/#/c/25274/ to be merged.

Ah, this is good to hear. It's obviously no high priority, so it will go in when it goes in, but I was worried I'd have to contact all sorts of people to bring it up as it seems like something they wouldn't have even thought of.
Thanks for the info.
I want this also, believe me. I just bought 5 of the Infuse 4G docks that ATT had on sale for 5 dollars. 2 desk docks and 3 car docks.

I'm cheating. I ripped apart a desk dock that was being clearanced out by a seller on Amazon for the Galaxy S2 I think it was, and adapted it to be my car dock. The USB connector is on a small cable already, so the cable just sticks out and the rest of the electronics are housed in a micro-sized Altoids tin (one of those little ones you can buy for $1 or so.) This way I can just plug it in and it's compatible with my Otterbox, so this method can be convenient for anyone who wants a "dock" that's compatible with skins and cases at the catch that the cable must be manually plugged in after dropping it into a generic dock. Super-cheap too since so many of the older ones are being clearanced out with the SGS3 now out. The only catch being that, of course, some work is required and of course anything remotely resembling a warranty on the dock is utterly wiped out, lol.
Along with a dock control app that is set to automatically change settings like Bluetooth and to start my audio player, it's super convenient to just drop the phone into the generic dock in my car, plug that cable in, and I'm ready to go. I was using the line output redirector tool along with the stock firmware, but in the end I'd rather CyanogenMod and something minor like no line output redirecting (yet!) was no deterrent...

I looked at that link but can't figure out how the CM projects work. Is this change for Verizon GS3 only or is going to be included for all carriers? Also, the status of the change is merged. How can I see which nightly this went into?
I could be wrong, but I'm inclined to say that something like this would be at a different level than anything carrier-specific as it's really just a hardware-specific level and thus should be the same across all carriers. However, if it helps any, I can say that I'm using d2vzw (aka Verizon.)

Ah, I didn't notice that. I just checked on mine and it's in the stable 10.0 which I switched to the other day. I don't know what nightly it might have first made it into, but in other words, it's there now. I'm using the "Galaxy Dock Sound Redirector" app personally.
EDIT: Woops! Correction. I was using that program from before because the original firmware required it to redirect the sound. However, it looks like there is a setting in the advanced section under sound. I haven't tested to see if it works as fully for me (it's not helping that I use a dock originally made to be a "desk" dock in my car, so a lot of things react differently) but likely that app is only necessary with the stock firmware.
EDIT2: Had time to test it now. CM10 stable's dock output works perfectly entirely on its own. I don't need a third party app or anything. It's just in kind of an unusual location (IMO it might be better if it were in the sound section.)
So I recently updated to the 10.1 now that they have a monthly available (basically it was suggested to me that monthlies could be considered more "stable" and reliable than, say, nightlies if any CyanogenMod could really be called stable, lol) and much to my chagrin it seems like the dock audio no longer works with this one even though that patch was supposedly accepted for 10.0? (Surely they wouldn't remove it?) Is something just set wrong, or has dock audio support on the SGS3 actually disappeared after they went to all the trouble to add it?
It's a sad day to see something take a step backwards like this. I can only hope it will be resolved later, but who knows?
Is the text-to-speech option just supposed to work with the vehicle dock? I bought the dock and for some reason i can not get the phone to speak text messages. I understand there is an option under Motorola Assist for reading texts when the phone is moving by using the GPS to determine speed. But i don't leave my GPS on. Also, i'm under the impression the car dock should automatically start the speech feature, without the need for "Assist".
Anyone have any insight? Thanks

I do not. Quick question; when you put your phone in the dock, does it enter Car Mode? From my understanding of the Griffin Car Dock's documentation, that is the key rather than Assist.

I have the car dock (which is a piece of junk, really, and I rarely use it. I think I've used it about four times.) I have always use the Assist driving feature, which has always worked to read my text messages to me, so I have no idea if the car dock itself launches that mode. I believe that you need the Assist driving feature, though, to have the phone offer to speak your received text messages to you.
From some other thread, there is a magnet in the dock that activates this Car Mode separate from Assist. Again, I cannot verify but see if anything changes when inserted.

Right, the magnet goes just to the left of the center of the back of the phone - just opposite where the volume keys are, which are on the right. If you drop the phone on an iPad cover where one of the magnet is at the right place it will start car dock mode.
Not trying to hijack your thread, but this is a similar issue. I'm using Assist and it successfully identifies when I'm driving. I have it set to read my texts aloud, however, it doesn't do it. Is it possible that it is because I'm using GoSMS? Anyone else seeing this same behavior?

Yes. As far as I know, reading texts only works with stock messaging.
By the way, I checked the car mode tonight. When it starts car mode when you dock, it also starts driving assist.

OK, this kinda makes sense, but sucks if it's true. I don't want to use Assist for anything other than reading texts. IMO, the car mode should be trigger enough. It shouldn't need Assist also.

Hello,
I have looked around but can't find an answer to a little setting I'm looking for.
Is there a way to enable a sound when I plug in to charge (or place on wireless charger)? I'd like to know that I have put my phone in the right spot on the charger. Edit: Found an app for this. Seems to work fine, but it's not native.
Also, I have a case that has a flip that goes around the back. I have my mastercard in the wallet part of the case, but when it's near the back of the phone, the phone makes the NFC noise. I tried disabling android beam but it still makes the noise as it is reading the card. Is there a way to turn off this sound without disabling NFC?
I apologise if I didn't look hard enough for the answers! I tried, I swear!
Thanks

My Nexus 5 and 4 both make a noise when i plug them in or place them on a wireless charger... always loved that fact tbh. Nexus 7 does it too it think.
They switch the screen on for a quick second too
