MT4G to be launched in Canada as HTC Emerald /w Android 2.3 + HTC Sense - myTouch 4G General

http://www.androidbugle.com/2011/04/htc-glaciermytouch-4g-to-hit-mobilicity.html
Once system dumps are obtained, maybe a 100% compatible HTC Sense 2.3 ROM can be cooked?

Yeah, hopefully this allows for a bug-free Gingerbread/Sense ROM on our mt4g's.

I take away two things from this. First, it shows just how much T-Mobile SUCKS. Why they insist on having a fugly, customized (read bastardized) version of Sense on their HTC phones. Second, why they can't come out with a Gingerbread update in a timely manner is beyond me. The EVO will have Gingerbread in two months, and that phone isn't near as powerful and came out long before the MT4G! Rant over.
This is actually awesome news. This could give us the kernel source we've been waiting for forever, in addition to a ROM that can be directly ported (much like the Desire HD ROMs).

If it takes till June the Mobilicity HTC Emerald will hopefully be out before then.
And it's running the nicer (IMO) version of Sense!

2.3 is already scheduled for Q2

I love tmobile's twist on sense, I never stay on another ROM (Cyanogen, Desire ports, or anything) cuz they're not like our stock sense. Even if it compromises speed/memory or something, I doubt it's not much what with all the power our phone has. Just my opinion, so an official tmobile release is gonna be rad!

theres a new ROM now that has the 2.3 update .

They'll be calling it the HTC "Panache".
I noticed the Genius button is gone, back to a plain old search button.
I hope they don't lock down this variant as stringently as the Incredible S. I wonder if there's any hardware differences that'd make it incompatible with a RUU from the MT4G?

For people that like Sense UI... ONLY!!!

Hi guys, just like what the topic says. For those who like AOSP don't be an arse.. and start crap in this thread.
OK, i was about to buy LGX2 on 4/20 at full retail and thought devs might port Sense UI to LG cause i like Sense and other varieties rom like CM7, Miui, etc.. just like our phone MyTouch4G. But I wasn't sure, cause in the back head thought how come Samsung phones like Galaxy S, 4G, Nexus S don't have any Sense port? Only AOSP roms. So I did some research and ask questions and found out there's no way to port Sense to LG or Samsung due to close source. So if you hate Sense then you can get LGX2 or Samsung. But I want varieties Sense UI, cm7, Miui ill be waiting and get HTC phones.
PS: don't be a [email protected],I'm posting this for new users to know before making a mistake.

HTC Evo 3D will have GSM version
http://www.gsmarena.com/gsmcapable_h...-news-2451.php
Probably don't have HSPA+ 1700 Band, but who give a **** i hardly get over 3mbps plus sooner or later Tmobile will be AT&T anyways.
So..which phone do you guys CHOOSE?
HTC Evo 3D GSM Version or
HTC Pryramid?
Let the bashing begins... hahahahaha
Tegra 2 fails in comparison to the dual core snap dragons. I think nvidia announced tegra 3 quadcore on phones by summer. I'm waiting for quadcore dual cores wont are not going to last as long. As the single cores did. The mytouch 4g has alot of ram as well so don't expect it to be outshine their was a video on YouTube of the mytouch 4g vs the atrix and the mytouch was blowing it out of the water.

Yep, I don't think the "Sense is slow" argument applies anymore. Phones like the MT4G are so powerful, I don't perceive any difference in performance going from a vanilla ROM to a Sense ROM. And phones will only continue to get more powerful.
Sense isn't slow I like it pure sense not T-Mobile version. I run cyanogenmod simply cause it save my days with the g1. Now I run miui with launcher pro. I personally like sense look but it uses alot of resources. 80 MB vs 254 MB they really don't need all of that stuff running in the background. Miui team changes alot and the rom is simply no bigger than 80 MB maybe HTC should look into a simpler way to implement their features without such heavy frameworks.

Sense UI can be ported and was ported, just not properly. There is a port for Galaxy S. The problem is regaining radio functionality - and on Samsung they didn't achieve it. On the other hand, it took time to get Gingerbread on Galaxy S too, so it might just not be an easy task.

This is not surprising at all. Glacier is using a bastardized version of sense 2.0 anyways, so there's no chance that htc or tmobile would hack a perfectly good version 3.0 just for glacier. Besides with announcement of sensation, tmobile will have a pure sense phone by summer, this would nudge most users to upgrade to the new sensation which what tmobile want anyways to increase sales. Glacier is an ugly step child used to show case video calling with 4g, sensation is the next flagship phone for tmobile.

You're lucky you got in the game late. It was agonizing since I bought it at release. I was checking every day to see what developments had been made. I was even the first to post links to the kernel source when it dropped. The original OS was pure torture. I'm just a Vanilla guy.
Besides- Vanilla takes about 90MB, Sense hits about 280MB.
Vanilla>Sense based on sheer efficiency.
Eh, well I guess the myTouch is running espresso so its not like sense 3.0 would change much on espresso. I'm sure when it gets gingerbread we'll see some UI changes tho.

When i saw the Droid X and Droid 2 getting locked down i decided that will not be a "first comer". I want to wait and see how it goes when it comes to rooting.... i don't mind tinkering. But i'm not putting up with a locked bootloader either.
My benchmarks and general user experience between sense vs aosp are barely negligible. Plus sense has all the UI fanciness and Widgets and IMO is just prettier. For as much MB as sense uses vs vanilla I don't see any meaningful drop in speed or experience. That to me is enough to put Sense higher up on my list than vanilla.

I love both AOSP and Sense, but Sense is just so much prettier and has a whole lot more functionalities. I always end up going back to Sense. The FB and Twitter integration on Sense makes it worthwhile for me. And let's not even start on how horrid the caller ID screen on AOSP is
Although it's bulkier than AOSP, I see no noticeable speed difference.
Don't know if anyone has read the article recently, but there's an update saying HTC clarified that some of the older devices will get Sense 3.0. So, there's hope! And since ours is one of the more recent HTC phones, I think there's a good chance we may get it. If not, I think this will be the eventual ROM I finally leave stock sense for!
As others have said, with these phones having the power to smoothly run Sense, I prefer it for it's sleekness and most importantly the awesome widgets. I will say though, that I've fallen out of love with Friendstream because it's so friggin slow!
I hated the first release of sense that released with the hero, but I love sense 2.0, 2.1. Can't wait for 3.0 to be ported to the MT4G. Should hold me over until the Sensation is released.
See, I like both AOSP and Sense. Just depends on mood, but I can see the benefits of both and understand why someone would like one over the other. I just can't make up my mind sometimes.
I Needs It...... I needs my Superphone Fix...Ima have to turn a lot of tricks for the Sensation.

MT4G Gingerbread update coming soon according to HTC rep

Can't wait, new roms will hopefully come in droves after this
cool..too bad I've been using gingerbread for the past couple of months now! So far so good!
Damn it, you beat me to it!
Well, 2Q 2011 ended 11 days ago. I'll believe it when I see it. Actually, I won't ever see it because I'm now using Virtuous Unity. Hot stuff I tell you. And it doesn't have all the pre-loaded crapware T-Mobile adds into the ROM.
The Nexus One spoiled me. I tried to keep my MT4G stock as long as possible. I'm surprised I made it 6 months on the stock MT4G ROM. Once you root and flash a gazillion different ROMs, stock is definitely and simply boring.

Of course not the hardware on that thing is the same as Sensation....We get Espresso, check out the leaked GB ROM for our phones, that's what we're getting. There's a doubleshot rom from the MT4GS here too if you wanna taste of 3.0 on that phone. Ginger for us will look just like froyo, no fancy 3D effects for older single core phones.

You are correct. The Gingerbread leak from early May looks identical to 2.2.1. The only big change/addition was the inclusion of the Quick Settings tab in the notification pulldown. I believe the leaked build had Sense 2.1. Pretty much going to have to rely on XDA if you want Sense 3.0 on your MT4G.

I've been testing the Gingerbread update and was going to post some screenshots, but apparently I need to have at least 8 posts before I can do so per the rules of the forums here.
I don't want to spam the forums here to hit some limit, but when I hit the magical 8 posts, I'll submit a post with images of the update.
So if i were to unroot to check out the update when its released i would have to root a completly different way? I had to gfree cause of the locked bootloader on the mt4g that i bought. Since my phone has the "bad emmc" I was thinking that using stock for a couple months til the phone dies would be a safe gamble.

Again, the question is whether joedonh is from tmo and thats how he is testing the upgrade or whether he is working on leaked version which everyone here has access to. Later is most likely not the case but just want to confirm.
Some Tmo employees have been selected to test the official GB rom. I imagine it is just as bad as the froyo build. it is still a "stock" rom so i am sure it is full of bloatware...

If he is an employee with T-mobile then he'd be breaking the NDA that they have to sign when getting phones or updates before the public. It's also against T-mobile policy. I wouldn't take the chance of it getting back to T-mobile and losing my job to show off a screen shot.

Why would the GB update come with Sense 2.1 and not 3.0?

I think it has been stated that we would only get sense 2.1 when our GB comes. Plus if you remember the leak did have 2.1.
If I'm not mistaken, the evo has gb now but sense is still the same as it was when the phone came out a year ago. It seems to be HTCs MO to only upgrade sense on newer devices and leave the rest out in the cold.

This is why we root our phones, so when HTC decides that our phone cant handle sense 3.0 when really it can we can still get it
They've already stated they feel its too CPU taxing for their 1Ghz single core processors. Simple as that. Judging by the reviews of the Sensation's speed/lag they may be on to something for a STOCK CPU tune where they are interested in longevity and reliably as opposed to us rooters who don't mind pushing all the hardware for everything It's worth. From personal experience the 3.0 port/preview NEEDS overclocking to perform well, something that ain't happening in an OTA update.

Judging by the reviews of the Sensation's speed/lag they may be on to something for a STOCK CPU tune where they are interested in longevity and reliably as opposed to us rooters who don't mind pushing all the hardware for everything It's worth. From personal experience the 3.0 port/preview NEEDS overclocking to perform well, something that ain't happening in an OTA update.

just adding my two cents. had made a thread earlier and I along with a few others I know and have read about feel that it isn't sense that is causing lag, but the fact that the dual core does not run simultaneously like the tegra 2 and exynos. but like I said, that's just my opinion.
I know I'm in the minority here, but I don't like sense 3.0. It's starting to become distracting to android and not just a skin...
I honestly don't know a thing about sense 3. I was just wondering why the tb wasnt getting it

HTC has already come out and said that parts of Sense 3 are incompatible with older devices but they will be bringing the elements that are still compatible over to Sense that is compatible with the device.

Agree 100%, we already have the option for Sense 3.0 thanks to dasBAMF and it's only going to get better and better.
Guys just so you know that update you see is fake. It was made by some trolls. But yes it will be 2.1

I'm just happy I can use das bamf to have a lot of the sense 3.0 elements. So far I've been able to run it smoothly but I do overclock...
I'm running Das Bamf 3 pr 4. Very happy with it and love sense 3. No lag issues that I have noticed. No special settings other than stock rom settings. Not surprising that HTC is staying conservative.
DasBAMF Sense 3.0 available in Development threads now. Hmm, works just fine on my phone. Thanks to XDA Devs. They're the Best.

Amen, brother. +1!
GB updates stock to 2.1 so you're forced to buy a new HTC phone with Sense 3.0 if you really want it.
Or you could just root and flash BAMF Sense 3.0 GB RC1... your call.

Exactly. They consider Sense 3.0 to be a big selling point. They'd rather you buy a new phone that includes it than give it to you as a free update. They've already got our money at this point.
I think ima just give them more money and by EVO 3d...

[Q] we ever getting ICS

Is te HTC Inspire gettin ICS?
sent from something called...i think its a computer...not sure
As of right now, the Inspire is supposed to get ICS, but it is still up for debate. I bet there will be ICS ports though, so we will get it one way or another

I thought HTC denied the Inspire would get ICS
Unless they denied it within the last week, it is still floating in limbo. Some say the HTC Ace and Stallion, which are the code names for DHD and Inspire, should receive ICS
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Even if the inspire doesn't get an official update to ICS there will be a custom rom
I don't think there will ever be an official release. We may get a newer gingerbread upgrade since the last on bites, but development for the inspire leaves us with better roms than stock anyway. I bet there will be a better more stable release through xda before ics ever hits officially for the inspire, but I don't think it ever will. I emailed HTC and asked if we would be getting ics or any other upgrades and they said they are working to make the experience better for the inspire but do not have anything in the works currently. This lead me to beleive they are long past worrying about the inspire. We will probably not even get a better gingerbread build imo.
HTC already released the list of devices that are getting ICS, Inspire4g/desire hd not in it.
Sorry.
If it doesn't we will still get it with ports from other devices... and of course cyanogen so no worries man

I'm sure there will be a couple custom ICS ROMs on here.

It wasn't a complete list. It was like these are the phones are definitely getting ics. The HTC desire had just got gb earlier this years when HTC clearly said it wouldn't. So don't count our phone out.

Yeah i saw it somewhere it wasn't the complete list, but i find it hard to believe an 1 year old phone get the second update of its existence; the phone is technically 1 year old, considering its a variation of the DHD (released in september '10 I believe)
Sure i hope for a ICS release.

The source code is gonna get posted on 17th with all probability. Sometime after that we should start seeing some true ICS ported ROMs.

Yup, and I'm anxious to see what ROMs we get based on it.

I think htc will give us the official release of sense 3.0 or even sense 3.5 to make up for the widgets and animations ICS will have to offer so we arent completely out of the loop

It wont matter really what HTC releases. It will be up to ATT to release a build built for the inspire or the best we can hope for is a port from the DHD. ATT normally has done a One OS update per device and thebinspire got theirs already. Hope I am wrong but history says I am not.
+1 for zelendel's post.
For anyone interested in ICS ROM(port):
