hi i just purchased a inspire yesterday and had a captivate before hand. going to root my phone and wondered what people here think is the best rom for this phone ??
I really liked CoreDroid a lot and used it for a week or so then switched to cyanogenmod7 for a few days. Definitely prefer CoreDroid over cm7. Now I'm running LeeDrOiD and think I may prefer this over the other two.
Just find a few you like and try them out for a while. You'll figure out which is best for you

What do you like about leedroid? I saw it has a larger speaker boosts... are the notifications noticeably louder? Give me your low-down on LD
If you want no frills and solid, snappy performance and response...I highly recommend Ingersol ROM.
Maybe its cause I'm older, but I really dig that ROM.
i use to run cognition on my captivate it was a pretty good rom
I like http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033434 its also the only GB rom specifically built for the inspire 4g but it doesnt have some of the cooler stuff but its got insane speed
I've only been using LeeDrOiD for a few hours so I can't say much. Initially everything appears to maintain the stock sense look without the graphic tweaks from CoreDroid. Battery seems a little better with LeeDrOiD but it's still too early to tell.
My first LeeDrOiD flash ended up with me stuck in a force close loop that I attribute to my own mucking around in the build properties file. I reflashed and it seems fine so far but I haven't rebooted yet after reinstalling my apps.
I went with LeeDrOiD because it seems to have more under the hood tweaks and optimizations that I like. If this isn't satisfactory ill probably be back to CoreDroid.
As far as audio, it seems about as loud as cm7. CoreDroid was louder if I remember rightly and my ears don't deceive me. That may just be from different test sounds though. Seems plenty loud on LeeDrOiD though.
EDIT: Just did some more test listening to LeeDrOiD.. seems about the same as I remember CoreDroid being. I've also rebooted the phone the the force close loop is not there. Must have been my own fault before, thankfully.

Bubby's one click is what I used. Quick and easy, but you need to follow the instructions TO THE LETTER. 99% of the issues people have with bubby's program is because they skip, tweek or misunderstand steps.

Yes. This. Watching the YouTube video also helps a lot. Even for the more experienced users its a good thing to even check out. There are small little steos, like closing out of the terminal app on the phone with the back button, that may go overlooked.

I made a gold card using the SimpeGoldCard GUI and then used Bubby's tool.
ROM: RCMix 5.9x series (with Sense, but has 'extra' to go senseless). It's also CWM enabled for OTA updates now.
sense isnt to bad as a launcher i used touchwiz before cause of the captivate. way more steps to root compared to it. but as long as you follow the steps its all good
think I might switch from captivate to inspire. what's the main difference, OP?

i like it so far. got more ram then the captivate. more gingerbread roms then the cappy from what i scene. rooting is more difficult but if you follow the developers directions is pretty easy. the one problem i have is removing the batter cover and sim card its a pain in a butt lol. but i would consider it a upgrade compared to the cappy. of course the sgs2 may come to att so u may wanna wait for that if your upgrading the phone.
CM7 or anything based on it in my opinion, but I hate every manufacturer UI.

Does anyone know if the No-sense script from AndroidRevolution will work with Leedroid or other sense roms?
Doubt it. I'm pretty sure that script is meant for android revolution's framework. If you do decide to do it, be sure to make a nandroid backup or do what I do and keep the rooted stock rom on my SD. That way I can just flash it in hboot

Or CM7
I'm borrowing my buddys inspire for two days to see how I like it. I own an Atrix. Right away I can see that the screen and build quality of this phone is much better than my Atrix. I also really like sense.
I asked my friend to put gingerbread and 3.0 sense on this phone so I can try it out. While the features are great the phone just doesnt feel as fast as my Atrix I need to find out exactly what Rom is on this phone so I can tell you guys, but my question is, is there anyway to put REAL sense 3.0 on this phone as well as gingerbread? Or are these things just themes?
I would try to find this info myself but you guys have like 30 roms listed in the dev forum. Also can you tell me if its possible to make the inspire very snappy while having sense 3.0 and gingerbread? So far I'm very much liking the phone and am considering making the switch.
If I'm understanding correctly, sense will backup all my settings and apps so that if I switch phones I won't have to do anything to get it back to the way I had it. Is this accurate?

CM7 is basically vinilla android with some improvements so no sense, miui is the best rom ever period, rcmix kingdom is sense 3.0 but is still not a solid rom. i had an atrix, hjad hardware problems with it and got it traded, then i started looking at the inspire fourms and i became more and more unhappy with my atrix and switched it for an inspire and it was the best desision ever but if you want to back up all your apps and restore them it wont work when switching roms 100% of the time so i would recommend BUYING titanium backup because if yourestore apps with the free version it takes forever due to the fact that you have to hit yes for every app, wait for it to install, then hit done, for every app

I disagree. Miui is horrible. Blah.... It lasted 12 hours on my phone. And that only cause I went to sleep.
I am using Gingerbeast. Its awesome. Fast...I Have been OC'd on it @ 1450mhz for like 2 weeks straight. No Issues. No Sense tho. But sense, its garbage man. Sense is bloatware..... .. Install a launcher, install GO SMS and GO contacts.. Its all you needs. If you want sense for the social stuff, just down load the social apps. But with this phone why? I just use the browser and log into them normally...
Leedroid is the only other Rom I would recommend for Sense. I used it for weeks. Fast, OC-able and All the Sense you could want.
I also +1 Titanium Back up. Its awesome.

I basically like sense for its ability to keep everything backed up for me. Not for the widgets.
I think I'm going to make the switch from the Atrix based on the build quality alone. Do like the option for sense though.
Is there any other ATT phone that can be reccomended over the inspire at the moment? Or is the inspire at the top of the food chain for build quality, power, and modability?

As I am not experienced much yet with an unlocked bootloader, ill take your word for it. I already purchaser TB for my Atrix do that's not an issue. I just never fully understood how to use it so I kinda just sits in my app drawer.
If you could please just briefly highlight the diffrences in cm7 and miui I would really appreciate it. Also do you think flashing to cm7 will remove this "zoomed in, big font issue" I was referring to earlier? Or is it maybe that MOTO blur is zoomed out? Everything looks smaller on the Atrix.
It's strange to see such dislike for Sense. I've seen on many occasions in other phones forums, people asking how to put sense on their non HTC devices. I was under the impression it was the best.

Out of all the UI's Sense is the best. I've used miui once but it looks too similar to the iphone so I don't really know what the appeal is there. However there is a large number of people who like the stock look with CM7 because of how you can customize literally everything, after a while that gets repetitive and boring. Personally I prefer Sense because of the hardware acceleration in the UI and the eye candy. Out of all the UI's it's the only one that doesn't look like it was designed by a 10 year old kid.
Go flash Leedroid with all the patches and you'll see what I mean.

internally MIUI and CM7 are very similar the biggest difference is the way they actually feel when using them, its mainly the ui, with CM7 you can customize EVERTHING but with MIUI most of its their you just have to see if you like it but if you do flash miui id recommend Rey's coustom rom MIUI in the desire hd fourms. but with titanium backup what it does is makes very precise backups of all your apps and saves it to your sd card and when you move roms you just download titanium backup and restore, most of this is done thorough batch which you go to backup/restore, hit menu, and select backup all user apps with data, but NEVER select system data when moving roms because it can cause some serious problems
My opinion:
Love sense. My favorite UI, and I like all roms on this forum. Tried every single one. My absolute favorite aosp rom is gingerbeast. Favorite sense rom is stock rooted and gtg's inspired ace. Then comes miui. As for the atrix, forget it. I had the atrix and it kept overheating, so I got the inspire and it was the best decision ever! Best part-no motoblur
As far as the people who don't like sense, go spend a year on touchwiz or motoblur

Well then you might as well flash an aosp rom. Sense wont keep all you stuff backed up throughout roms(I don't remember it restoring any of my stuff)
aosp roms will keep EVERY app backed up and will restore them when you reflash or update the rom. If you uninstall an app, it wont restore it.
Works perfect.

What's the snappiest gingerbread Rom that has sense bundled?
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
I've become a big fan of CoreDroid, Sergio promised us a new version tonight or tomorrow.
Inspired Ace was good, but I wanted the Sense 3 bits
Hey guys I have a few questions about the 3.0 sense roms out there.
What are your guys experiences with these roms? Are they stable? Is 3.0 too much for the Inspire? And is it worth it? And if you would recommend a sense 3.0 rom, which one would it be?
Thank you for your answers
I've only tried Virtuous Unity so i cant speak on Kingdom. I think it was pretty stable, not a whole lot of lag except the 3D effect when switching homescreens was a little bit laggy but nothing that would make you notice (i did) but all in all it is great. Try one of them out you'll love it.
I've been on Virtuous Unity since 1.25 was released and haven't had any problems at all. I'm new to android and have only flashed 3 roms on my Inspire but from what I've read VU might be the best Sense 3.O rom for the Inspire. The extras you get like the lockscreen controls and built in task manager are pretty good and I use them often. Also VU 1.26 was just released earlier today which should improve an already great rom. Give it a try for yourself and see how you like it but I think you will love it.
I've used RCMix3D the last few days, and it works flawlessly. The weather sound effects are annoying as hell, but I think you can remove them. I haven't had any lag on that ROM at all.
Thanks for the responses guys. I'm about to root for the first time ever, and I was really looking forward to having the very cool sense 3.0 on my phone. One more question, is general call quality, sms, and gps pretty solid on these roms?
I just rooted a few days ago and instantly flashed the RCMix3D ROM. All of those things are flawless on that one, but there is an audio fix on that thread if you need it. Takes about 10 seconds to flash it.
Cool sounds great, off to read the how-to's I guess lol
Lol almost forgot, is battery good with these roms as well?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Good luck! When I did it, it took me about 4 hours, plus flashing the ROM. I had some issues with flashing first off, but it was only cause I didn't do a full wipe. Make sure you do that if your ROM requires it!
How can I make sure I do a full wipe? Will it ask me?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Put this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=868720
And your ROM on your SD card. Make sure you backup your stuff, or just make a list of your apps, and then when you are done rooting, download ROM Manager. Go to "install ROM from SD card", and there will be an option to browse your SD card for the ROM. Browse to the full wipe zip file first, run it, and THEN flash your ROM. That's what I did, and it worked after the second try. If it gets stuck at all, what I did was remove the battery and hold down the bottom volume rocker while booting, then just use CWM to flash back to a backup or ROM.
Does the Rom you mentioned come with Google navigation? The app with the blue arrow icon.

Yes and yes and yes for me. Rock solid.
I've used rcmix and am currently on virtuous unity. Both are awesome, no issues with stability or anything like that and both have been smooth and fast. My battery life when the phone is idle is great, maybe 1% every 90 minutes. When using the device though, battery is used up about the same as stock, maybe a little better.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
Which is typically more stable and better on battery life, VU, or RC Mix? I'm using RCMix but VU looks pretty sweet, if not very similar
Also a question concerning radios. When rooting will I need a special radio for these roms? I know nothing about radios, the hack kit mentions the stock att radio as a choice, do I need to download that or is it already on the phone and I just need to boot it up? Or do I even need to mess with the radios? After clockwork, superuser, and rom manager is installed can I just flash this rom or do I need to mess with the radio? I'm worried because it seems the radio is what will brick your phone.
CoreDroid v7 is pretty nice, but Virtuous is probably as good as it gets. Fantastic rom that you should definitely take a look at.

I know that we would have the choice to remove bloatware, cutomise status bar, and sometime oc. That's all nice but still I don't see why not leave it as is?

For me it's the freedom to do with my phone what I want. These developers kick out some sweet features that we'll never see from a stock ROM, and they get us the latest software before the manufacturers. I bug here or there is well worth it for me, and if it's to bad you can always revert. If you prefer the stock experience, than by all means leave it alone. But me, I'm a tinkerer. Be it a car, truck, bike... or yes, even a phone, I can't leave well enough alone.
Because we can
To pick up chicks......I haven't met one yet that's not turned on by 48+ mflops!
Can't do that with stock.....
This might seem like an odd answer... I flash so I can have a standard interface on my phones. I've had a droid, droid x, and thunderbolt in the last year and a half (my company does some android development on in house apps for one of our clients, and we go through a lot of test phones). having something close to a stock interface minimizes the daily annoyances of moving between those phones.... which is why I use the aosp roms.

Number 1 reason on the Thunderbolt ... I prefer AOSP/CM7 over Sense.
My mom just got an Infuse 4G last night. She's unhappy with the stock ROM (rather, she's not liking it). Realistically I am using this opportunity to break the woman into smartphones, and the Infuse 4G is a great one with a screen that she can read (I love the look of that AMOLED, it's making me want a Samsung when it's time to upgrade).
The question is, which ROM is the most user-friendly? If you read my sig you'll see I have an Atrix 4G myself and am currently running an Alpha ROM so you'll know I am no stranger to the mod community. I just don't want to go from ROM to ROM to ROM showing her each one, wasting my entire day reflashing her phone. If anyone can come up with one or two suggestions for me to try for her, I would greatly appreciate it.
I'm looking for something ICS-like, smooth as butter, and not over-the-top like some of the Atrix guys like to go. Thanks for your help!

I'm looking for something ICS-like, smooth as butter, and not over-the-top like some of the Atrix guys like to go. Thanks for your help!

Imho, find out what she wants out of the phone and tweak it with apps. Stick with stock froyo and avoid the grief.
Ex. Big text battery indicator to show battery. Business calendar is better than stock. Go launcher is better than stock. Show her how to put direct dial shortcut on the screen etc...show her the widgets.
Leave the rom alone because everything works.
From my experience, it's the app and how to use the phone...not the ROM
For better battery life, odin flash one of the stock gingerbread leaks and leave it. KK4 leak would be OK. KL2 is better but tw30 is messed up on it. I like the stock froyo but the battery life sucks.

Infused 2.2.3 and s7 was the best for me when i was on froyo.

But bt doesn't work properly on aosp roms (cm7 and miui) if your mom needs simple and stable...infused 2.2.3 or s7....I would recommend one of mine but mine have alot of add one and tweaks and are really for advanced users...like I said infused 2.2.3 or S7....everything works and stable and simple..

See I'm attempting to throw CatyRom on it, the ICS app tray is really what I'm after. Something like that would keep it simple for her to find things without having to go through the app drawer which is what has overloaded her in the past. She absolutely refuses to use an iPhone because of this.
Catyrom is good...don't get me wrong. .just know what your doing when flashing is all bro...and thanks for choosing caty

Hah. I thought this thread was a joke when I read the subject line.
Well at this point it we have a handful of really good stable, infuse based roms. So it's all about what color she wants really lol.
Have her take a look at the screenshots for : Zeus, Caty, Bionix, Numas, Victory rom, or infused(old one but a goodie). And pick which one is astheticaly pleasing to her.
Nah, no joke. I made some modifications that allow single-touch activation of apps/tools but other than that she seems happy with Caty. She's a blue person, so it worked in my favor.
It seems odd that someone who has had no experience with smartphones minus playing with someone's iPhone and hating it would want to jump head-long into the ROM world but she's seen the difference it made in my phone. ICS on my Atrix is great, and I am hoping that one day you guys get it running on the Infuse, it seems like a good phone and you folks seem like an intelligent bunch.
Zeus (gb rom).
Plus:
Bluetooth and wifi are working good. Good battery. GPS is good.
Minus (common to ALL gb roms):
HDMI out does not work
