Should I wipe battery stats after flashing a new kernel? - Thunderbolt General

Title says it all

I always do and I also make sure phone is fully charge and plugged in. Cant hurt

wouldn't hurt, also if swapping batteries as well.

Question related to this - what is everyone's battery voltages when maxed out? I heard that 4200mV is normal, but after how much I charge it and wipe stats, I never get higher than 4080mV in spare parts.

Then go to advanced>wipe battery stats and remember to charge to 100% before wiping. Then let battery completely drain until phone dies and charge back up to 100% preferably with the phone still off.

thanks guys, and sorry i got back here so late. I also use an app from the market called battery calibration. I think its better because rebooting into CWM may use some battery and you would never know

I have another question.
What exactly is the battery stats? and what does it do when I wipe it?
I've been wiping the dalvik cache and battery stats when I flash rom/kernel/etc but never really knew what they were.

Only flash battery stats when its charged to one hundred or it'll screw your battery readings. It just makes your battery meter more accurate because flashing a Rom screws with it.

After unplugging, battery stayed at 100% for hours, recently installed cyanogenmod

My buddy recently rooted my phone, I don't know much about this stuff yet. I unplugged my phone and it stayed at 100% battery for like 6 hours. My buddy says we need to wipe battery stats.
Can anybody help me with this?
Thank you
Download battery calibration from the market. Its free and the easiest way to do it.

yes wipe your battery stats
I've had problems with aosp roms doing that. The battery percentage sticks, then when you reboot, it updates.
Not sure what the cause is, but wiping battery stats didn't help.
Thanks for the replies.
I'll try all three.
How would I go about wiping battery stats? Does the phone need to be charged to 100 before doing this? Please walk me through it as if I were a 4 year old.
Recovery/ advanced/ wipe batt stats/ reboot to recovery/ system reboot.
should battery be full/plugged in to full when this happens?
If I do this, should I avoid downloading the app mentioned above?

Charger should be unpluged , battery at 50% or above is ok , download the app after you are finished.

it is best to do a full charge.
have the app on your phone, clear stats
use phone until battery is fully dead, or close to it
recharge again to 100% with out unplugging it
and you should be good.
however charging it to 100% and wiping stats will be fine.
you can do it from the battery app mentioned above, or once charged to 100%, hold power, select reboot, choose recovery, once clockwork shows up, go to advanced, wipe battery stats, "go back" reboot phone.
Thank you all very much. It is much appreciated.
I look forward to actually doing some reading in my spare time (yea right, spare time,) so that I can be more educated.

[P] Phone is charging itself?

Hello. This issue has been going on for a while now. But when I take my phone off the charger when its not fully charged. The battery percentage keeps going up. For example if I unplug it at 78%, the percentage will gradually go up to like 86-88%. Can anyone give me a hint as to why its doing this? Thanks!

Battery stats are wonked out.
Do you have Clockwworkmod recovery installed? Or is this a pure stock unrooted?
EDIT: Mr. Jacob, what are you tense about? LOL ! Just kidding....
Try using an app called battery calibration (can be found in the app market) when the phone is fully charged. This will reset all the battery stat logs and set your 100% to a true 100%
I have clockwork installed. I'm running SkyICS rom. And I have already tried battery calibration.
PS: And nothing really xD its been my screen name since the early Xbox days

Battery calibration does nothing. Normally I wouldn't recommend that u COMPLETELY drain the skyrocket battery as its lithium based and can cause dead cells, yours needs calibrating, and wiping battery stats or using a battery calibration app won't help (both of these are myths by the way, Google if). Use phone until its completely dead, and won't turn on at all, only vibrate with a black screen. Then charge phone for a continuous 8 hours uninterrupted, that should fix it

As a first try, charge to 100%. Then go into CWM recovery and wipe battery stats. It should be good to go....On ICS, thsi seems to fix it for me.
IF you then stilll have weird battery problems a proper recallibration will be in order.
I had to just wipe battery stats when charged to 100%. DON'T just wait for 100%. Alow the phone to get to fully charged.....if you have "Full Charge" notification on your ROM wait for that.

Half of this is right chappatti
charging to 100% and letting it sit for at least an hour even after full charge notification is the best way. Wiping battery stats in cwm won't actually do anything though, thats a myth.
Actually, for lithium ion batteries, it is not recommended to let them discharge to zero. It's better to run it down to 10% or so (i usually do about 5%). and then charge it completely. Rinse and repeat over a few days, and there should be a difference.

What a revelation !! It's like realising my religion is all wrong !
BUT, BUT, BUT : reading the whole battery stats discussion, it i also clear that the business of charging for an hour after 100% is also not worthwhile, but is just a customer gimmick to make people feel thier batteries are topped off. This was started by HTC and the consensus is that is also does not help.
The simple solution is to let the battery go through 2-3 charge-discharge cycles.

A good read. Very useful, thanks !
I had this same issue with my Exynos G2, my problem was flashing different roms or putting a theme on. My fix came not by wiping battery stats but only doing flashes at 100% and plugged in. I never noticed it on my SR though. I'm not saying don't try what the others say, just giving you more options.

Why does the HTC one s shuts off at a certain point?

My phone shut off around 14%
Mine at around 5 or 0. Usually 0.
is there a way to fix it so it wont shut off til around the single digits percent?
Never happened to me. Try wiping battery stats and calibrating your battery.

How long have you had your phone? If its brand new give it a week. Other than that I say try battery calibration app as mentioned above.

i got it like a week and half ago
Mine shuts off at 0 exactly. Wipe battery stats and calibrate the battery. Drain it dead then fully charge it.
how do i exactly wipe battery stats?

Reboot into recovery (assuming you've rooted and installed cwm...) go to advanced then wipe battery stats.
If you want to do it from an App you can pick up Battery Calibrator on the market and that will do the same thing but either way you need root.
The idea is to wipe stats and let the battery drain down all the way and let it recharge to full, this will give you a true value for the battery.
ooh, thanks. but the only problem is figuring out how to root since i downloaded the app
You have to unlock the bootloader. There's a post for that in the dev section

[Q] Battery Calibration

Can you guys recommend a battery calibration app?
Currently im using ViperSaga, and yes we all know that our DS can live for a day or two depends on the usage.
Battery calibration by wiping battery stats is a myth. After 2-3 charge cycles, the indicated battery level will be as accurate as it ever will or can be.
Battery booster maybe ?
AOSP developer Dianne Hackborn has made it clear that battery calibration is a myth. It only mean deleted the battery stats. And your device does that on each reboot.
how about the wipe battery stats in the recovery? does it help the calibration of the battery?

Battery calibration does exactly that. It wipes the battery stats. And that is something your phone does automatically on each reboot.
Deleting stats is pointless indeed, but the battery calibration procedure that involves a discharge/recharge cycle, not only deletion of the stats file helps to have proper % indication that cannot happen on a Stock ROM which is the case the Google engineer is talking about. But when flashing custom is another story, then a wrong indication can appear after flashing and it has to be corrected

Though you can leave out wiping the battery, stats, the charge/discharge cycle is what helps.

How to Wipe Battery Stats On Nexus S

Hello guyz,
I want to wipe battery stats of my nexus s but there is no option like that in cwm>Advance>Battery Wipe Stats
Can anybody help me in this?Thx
don't ... it's quite useless
( there are tons of app,but u can also charge to 100% and battery stats are deleted automatically, or pull out battery, anyway it doesn't affect battery life ... )
Yeah as the last poster said, a Google person came out and busted the myth that wiping battery stats helps in batterylife/precise readings. The stats wipe on their own after each cycle, I don't know exactly how long those cycles are but most likely after full charges/a day or two etc.
Its best to just let it be and it will calibrate itself.
But if you really want to the batterystats.bin file is located in the system or data folder in the root directory, delete it and it will automatically start a new one.
I wan to wipe battery stats of my nexus s bcaz it's not fully charging to 100% Only charging to 98% and saying fully charged.Today i have flashed a new rom and now it's charging to only 95%.What the heck problem it is

Some ROMs have a ceiling for charging the battery in order to 'preserve the battery' so it doesn't completely die as fast. So they make it so that it can't charge all the way to 100%
So its not an actual problem on your phone and wiping stats won't help you
However if you still want to be able to charge to 100% you can download nstools which has an option to fully charge

Batterystats is nonsense. Batterystats are wiped every time you charge your phone to full or almost full. It makes no sense to wipe battery stats with an app. Fully charging your phone and letting it turn itself off because its empty works best!
Me Gusta!
I used an app called battery calibration..

I had the same issue when i was using stock google ICS/JB ROM.
It disappeared when i made the switch to CM.
No need to delete batterystats.bin
Just flash kernel with blx
