Early release of updates. - Thunderbolt General

I was just wandering how we get the official updates early. Since I know that Devs can start building ROMs with the updates before the updates are ever released. So do we have like a man on the inside, or does HTC release the update online early or what? Just being curious.

I doubt we'll see a leaked update. Chances are you gonna have to wait until the update start to roll out and someone gets a logcat. After that you can download it to your pc or as an update.zip and flash.

That's how it works on most phones unless something is leaked.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App

Leaked updates are just that. Leaked. They are leaked from WITHIN the company making them. It's not some conspiracy. No one can make ROMs based on non-existent updates that are not leaked.

I wouldn't be surprised if companies purposely leaked updates. Free testing.

chances are by the time the official update is out, the kernals/roms will have already fixed the issues

New Gingerbread 4.24/4.26 update?

Ladies & Gentlemen, as we speak I am manually checking for an update from HTC. There was actually a GB update waiting for download. Its either 4.24 or 4.26. Can't check as I am currently downloading. Please try....and post back with your experiences. Thanks!
Edit: This was already posted in the Evo Q&A Section and General Section.

Interesting was there supposed to be an update?
Maybe I'm missing something but I didn't see anything new for the Evo. Last update was in December.

I checked today and there was a 8 meg update but I'm rooted so I didn't update it.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Thee has been one major update which was the GB 4.22 update plus this one which is 4.24. It is only 6MB, so I'm sure its nothing major. Keep trying the manual update. Took me two tries.

How did you find this? I checked HTC support page. Where should I be looking? Running Cm7 I can't do it through the updates like on Sense.
Sent from my SPH-P100 using XDA Premium App
It is under Settings/Software Updates/HTC Software update.
FYI: It does not update radios, the locked hboot 2.16.001, or Wimax. It does seem to make my phone respond faster (apps snappier & data seems faster).

The faster response is probably a result of rebooting your phone and not having 100 apps running in the background eating up memory

Honestly you should just throw your phone out the window while driving down the freeway because you don't even have a clue about the rom you are running

Official Gingerbread?

I apologize if there is already a thread going on this but as you can see I am using the XDA app and that doesn't have the best search feature. I was wondering if samsung has released any official news on when the US is supposed to get Gingerbread. I had heard that they were rolling it out based on their "Regional Plan" but does anyone know what the plan actually is?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
Tbh, I don't think therell be an official gingerbread update for this phone.
1. Not none as much...
2. Hardware wise not that good
3. Tmobile is slow with gingebread.
And I heard krylon is working on a CM7 so we're saved because of him!

Um.... yeah, it's been fairly obvious it's definitely coming.... eventually. So! Let's see a show of hands! How's ALREADY on gingerbread and couldn't care less about an OTA? I don't know anyone NOT on gingerbread.
Awesome, just in time to be obsolete. Ice Cream Sandwich?

Already is, since AOSP based roms (like cyanogen) and phones run 2.3.5 and the HTC version for the Thunderbolt is 2.3.4. Anyways, one doesn't stay stock and expect to be bleeding edge (unless you have a nexus phone).

Well, duh! They said early on it would be Q2, and it's only June 92nd.

kindly begging cyanogen to support our phone

Not exactly sure how to go about this but we could not only use more devs but I don't trust Tmobile nor Samsung to release ICS in a timely manner. Seeing as it's been in the works since it was launched and now one of the few updates it has gotten is to prepare it for ICS, so don't give in to this hysteria of it coming soon. Either way this community is finally coming together but I miss the up to date cyanogen days.
It's being worked on but will take some time.

For starters I believe we should be able to get things like IR support and all the little extra features that usually only TW based roms could offer.
It might also help Dan or some other dev to completely unlock the bootloader.

Well since the source is released I believe devs can truly fix the weird screen issues we have (smearing and all)
And it might help with a bootloader unlock
also pure samsung kernels which should have better stability and speed
So could devs use the TW camera app with other Roms?

No because that requires the touchwiz framework.
We might see some hybrid Touchwiz/CM 10.1 Roms...

Dont get your hopes up in regards to bootlader unlock, that requires the signature keys, which has nothing to do with the kernels.

True true but it might help Dan understand more about the device and possibly work around it. Yea odds are it won't help but its always nice to be hopeful now that AT&T is officially about to shut down loki

hmm does warranty repair flash new updates when they fix your device?
also, means launch era GS4's should command a nice premium very soon.

Depends. If you send it to AT&T you bet they will patch for security. If you're using third party insurance I would just request they don't or at least ask if they do so you can plan for it or something, not that that would help :/
While it won't initially, you can bet people will be greedy and make you pay extra for day one models that are not patched but in reality it should only be like a 50$ premium at most. There are plenty of smart phones out there that are about just as good as the S4 that are unlocked, also holiday season will bring about plenty of competing phones and friendlier bootloaders.
